Physiological and Biochemical Characteristics and Response Patterns of Salinity Stress Responsive Genes (SSRGs) in Wild Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa L.)

Cultivating salt-tolerant crops is a feasible way to effectively utilize saline-alkali land and solve the problem of underutilization of saline ***,a protein-comprehensive cereal in the plant kingdom,is an exceptional crop in terms of salt stress tolerance *** seems an excellent model for the exploration of salt-tolerance mechanisms and cultivation of salt-tolerant *** this study,the seeds and seedlings of the quinoa cultivar Shelly were treated with different concentrations of NaCl *** physiological,biochemical characteristics and agronomic traits were investigated,and the response patterns of three salt stress-responsive genes(SSRGs)in quinoa were determined by real-time *** optimum level of stress tolerance of quinoa cultivar Shelly was found in the range of 250–350 mM concentration of *** stress significantly induced expression of superoxide dismutase(SOD),peroxidase(POD),and particularly betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase(BADH).BADH was discovered to be more sensitive to salt stress and played an important role in the salt stress tolerance of quinoa seedlings,particularly at high NaCl concentrations,as it displayed upregulation until 24 h under 100 mM salt ***,it showed upregulation until 12 h under 250 mM salt *** together,these results suggest that BADH played an essential role in the salt-tolerance mechanism of *** on the expression level and prompt response induced by NaCl,we suggest that the BADH can be considered as a molecular marker for screening salt-tolerant quinoa germplasm at the early stages of crop *** treatment at different plant ontogeny or at different concentrations had a significant impact on quinoa ***,an appropriate treatment approach needs to be chosen rationally in the process of screening salt-tolerant quinoa germplasm,which is useful to the utilization of saline *** study provides a fundamental information to deepen knowledge of the s

Protective effect of Genistein against N-nitrosodiethylamine(NDEA)-induced hepatotoxicity in Swiss albino rats

In the present study,we studied the effect of Genistein against the hepatotoxicity induced by N-nitrosodiethylamine（NDEA）.NDEA is present in almost all kinds of food stuff and has been reported to be a *** male rats were exposed to NDEA（0.1 mg/mL） dissolved in drinking water separately and along with 25,50,100 mg/mL of Genistein for 21 *** activities of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase（SGOT）,serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase（SGPT）.alkaline phosphatase（ALP） and lactate dehydrogenase（LDH） were measured in blood *** peroxidation,protein carbonyl content,micronucleus frequency and DNA damage（Comet assay） were performed on rat *** results of the study reveal that the treatment of NDEA along with Genistein showed a significant dose-dependent decrease in the levels of blood serum enzymes i.e.,SGOT,SGPT,ALP and LDH（P〈0.05）.The HE staining of histological sections of the liver also revealed a protective effect of Genistein.A significant dose-dependent reduction in the lipid peroxidation and protein carbonyl content was observed in rats exposed to NDEA（0.1 mg/mL） along with Genistein（P〈0.05）.The results obtained for the comet assay in rat hepatocytes showed a significant dose-dependent decrease in the mean tail length（P〈0.05）.Thus the present study supports the hepatoprotective role of Genistein.

A gelatin-based artificial SEI for lithium deposition regulation and polysulfide shuttle suppression in lithium-sulfur batteries

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S) battery is one of the best candidates for the next-generation energy storage system due to its high theoretical capacity(1675 mA h-1),low cost and environment ***,lithium(Li) dendrites formation and polysulfide shuttle effect are two major challenges that limit the commercialization of Li-S *** we design a facile bifunctional interlayer of gelatin-based fibers(GFs),aiming to protect the Li anode surface from the dendrites growth and also hinder the polysulfide shuttle *** reveal that the 3D structural network of GFs layer with abundant polar sites helps to homogenize Li-ion flux,leading to uniform Li-ion ***,the polar moieties also immobilize the lithium polysulfides and protect the Li metal from the *** a result,the anodeprotected batteries have shown significantly enhanced performance.A high coulombic efficiency of 96% after 160 cycles has been achieved in the Li-Cu half *** Li-Li symmetric cells exhibit a prolonged lifespan for 800 h with voltage hysteresis(10 mV).With the as-prepared GFs layer,the Li-S battery shows approximately 14% higher capacity retention than the pristine battery at 0.5 C after 100 *** work presents that this gelatin-based bi-functional interlayer provides a viable strategy for the manufacturing of advanced Li-S batteries.

Foliar application of micronutrients enhances crop stand, yield and the biofortification essential for human health of different wheat cultivars

Globally about half of the world’s population is under micronutrient malnutrition due to poor quality food *** overcome this problem,fortification and biofortification techniques are often *** is considered a better option than fortification due to the easy control of nutrient deficiencies present in daily *** field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of foliar application of a micronutrient mixture(MNM)consisting of zinc(Zn),iron(Fe),copper(Cu),manganese(Mn)and boron(B)on yield and flour quality of *** results show the effectiveness of foliar feeding for growth and yield parameters,in addition to the enriching of wheat grains with Zn,Cu,Fe,Mn and *** to the control without foliar feeding,foliar application on wheat crop increased tillering ability,spike length,grain yield and the contents of Zn,Cu,Mn,Fe and B by 21,47,22,22 and 25%in wheat flour,***,foliar feeding of micronutrients could be an effective approach to enrich wheat grains with essential nutrients for correcting malnutrition.

Okra(Abelmoschus esculentus L.)belongs to the Malvaceae family and is one of the most essential and popular vegetables *** is rich in proteins,carbohydrates,and *** and biotic factors threaten okra *** yellow vein mosaic disease(OYVMD)is the most destructive disease of *** causal agent,[i.e.,Okra yellow vein mosaic virus(OYVMV)]of this disease belongs to the family Geminiviridae and genus *** is a monopartite with additional ssDNA *** virus has two components DNA-A for protein coding and DNA-B for symptoms *** transmits OYVMV in persistent *** symptoms of OYVMV infected okra plants are chlorosis,dwarfing,and yellowing of veins and *** temperatures with moderate rainfall enhance the development of OYVMV disease and the whitefly ***,high humidity with low temperature and rainfall has no significant role in developing the OYVMD and whitefly ***,the virus also affects the secondary metabolites in the infected okra *** virus can be managed through various strategies including the application of plant defense activators,the development of resistant varieties and by controlling its vector via pesticides and plant *** plant defense activators such as monopotassium phosphate(KH2PO),salicylic acid,benzoic acid,and citric acid enhance resistance in okra against *** addition,the resistance to OYMVD can also be achieved by successfully incorporating high yielding but resistant cultivars of acceptable *** this review,we have discussed history,economic impact,symptomology,disease development under a natural environment,genetics and management of OYVMV.
