Psychological review of hemodialysis patients and kidney transplant recipients during the COVID-19 pandemic

BACKGROUND Kidney transplantation(KT)and end-stage renal disease(ESRD)requiring hemodialysis(HD)increase the incidence of morbidity and mortality associated with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative effect on the psychological well-being of COVID-19 patients,especially those with a high-risk of infectious *** prevalence of anxiety and depression is known to be higher in ESRD patients undergoing HD than in the general *** the other hand,KT recipients have different treatment requirements compared to HD patients,including adherence to complex immunosuppressive regimens and compliance with follow-up *** hypothesized that psychosocial difficulties and stressors would differ between ESRD patients undergoing HD and KT recipients during the COVID-19 *** so,each group may require different interventions to maintain their psychosocial *** To measure and compare the levels of stress,anxiety,depression,concerns related to the pandemic,and coping skills in ESRD patients undergoing HD and KT recipients during the COVID-19 *** This cross-sectional study was performed at a training and research *** study included ESRD patients undergoing HD(HD group)and KT recipients(with stable graft function for≥6 mo prior to the study)(KT group).Patients completed a demographics form,the impact of events scale,the hospital anxiety and depression scale,and the Connor-Davidson resilience *** findings at the last clinical follow-up were ***χ^(2)test was used to assess the relationship between the HD and KT groups and the categorical *** relationships between the scale scores were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test,and differences between the groups were analyzed using the independent groups *** The study included 125 patients,of which 89(71.2%)were in the HD group and 36(28.8%)were in the KT *** levels of anxiety and de

Background:High-intensity interval training(HIIT)induces similar or even superior adaptations compared to continuous endurance ***,just 6 HIIT sessions over 2 weeks significantly improves maximal oxygen uptake(VO_(2max)),submaximal exercise fat oxidation,and endurance *** even faster adaptations can be achieved with HIIT is not ***,we aimed to determine whether 2 sessions of HIIT per day,separated by 3 h,every other day for 5 days(double HIIT(HIIT-D),n=15)could increase VO_(2max),submaximal exercise fat oxidation,and endurance capacity as effectively as 6 sessions of HIIT over 2 weeks(single HIIT(HIIT-S),n=13).Methods:Each training session consisted of 10×60 s of cycling at 100%of VO_(2max)interspersed with 75 s of low-intensity cycling at 60 watt(W).Pre-and post-training assessments included VO_(2max),time to exhaustion at-80%of VO_(2max),and 60-min cycling trials at-67%of VO_(2max).Results:Similar increases(p0.05)and endurance capacity(HIIT-D:80.1%***-S:79.2%,p>0.05)were *** exercise carbohydrate oxidation was reduced in the 2 groups after exercise training(HIIT-D:9.2%,p=0.014 ***-S:18.8%,p=0.012)while submaximal exercise fat oxidation was significantly increased in HIIT-D(15.5%,p=0.048)but not in HIIT-S(9.3%,p=0.290).Conclusion:Six HIIT sessions over 5 days was as effective in increasing VO_(2max)and endurance capacity and was more effective in improving submaximal exercise fat oxidation than 6 HIIT sessions over 2 weeks.

RobCoP: A Matlab Package for Robust CoPlot Analysis

The graphical representation method, Robust CoPlot, is a robust variant of the classical CoPlot method. CoPlot is an adaptation of multidimensional scaling (MDS), and is a practical tool for visual inspection and rich interpretation of multivariate data. CoPlot enables presentation of a multidimensional dataset in a two dimensions, in a manner that relations between both variables and observations to be analyzed together. It has also been used as a supplemental tool to cluster analysis, data envelopment analysis (DEA) and outlier detection methods in the literature. However, this method is very sensitive to outliers. When a multidimensional dataset contains outliers, this can lead to undesirable consequences such as the inaccurate representation of the variables. The motivation is to produce Robust CoPlot that is not unduly affected by outliers. In this study, we have presented a new MATLAB package RobCoP for generating robust graphical representation of a multidimensional dataset. This study serves a useful purpose for researchers studying the implementation of Robust CoPlot method by providing a description of the software package RobCoP;it also offers some limited information on the Robust CoPlot analysis itself. The package presented here has enough flexibility to allow a user to select an MDS type and vector correlation method to produce either classical or Robust CoPlot results.

Changes of total antioxidant capacity and total oxidant status of aqueous humor in diabetes patients and correlations with diabetic retinopathy

AIM:To measure changes of total oxidant status(TOS)and total antioxidant capacity(TAC) of aqueous humor(AH) in diabetic retinopathy(DR) patients,and to determine if there were any differences in TOS and TAC of AH in diabetic patients without retinopathy compared with non-diabetic patients.·METHODS:One hundred and three eyes of 103patients who were enrolled for cataract surgery were included in this *** were grouped according to presence of diabetes and stage of *** to cataract surgery,0.1mL to 0.2mL of AH was aspirated and analyzed for TAC and TOS level using a colorimetric method.·RESULTS:TOS levels were highest among proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR) patients and lowest in patients with only *** were statistically significant between all groups(P <0.05).Whereas result between diabetic without retinopathy patients and non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy(NPDR) patients was not statistically significant(P =0.757).TAC levels were highest in patients with only cataract and lowest among PDR patients and results were statistically significant between all groups(P <0.05).·CONCLUSION:Aqueous humor TAC levels are low in diabetic patients and reduced further in DR patients,TOS levels are increased in diabetic patients and this is exacerbated in DR patients.

Recently,we have shown that manual stimulation of paralyzed vibrissal muscles after facial-facial anastomosis reduced the poly-innervation of neuromuscular junctions and restored vibrissal *** gene knock outs,we found a differential dependence of manual stimulation effects on growth ***,insulin-like growth factor-1 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor are required to underpin manual stimulation-mediated improvements,whereas FGF-2 is *** lack of dependence on FGF-2 in mediating these peripheral effects prompted us to look centrally,*** the facial nucleus where increased astrogliosis after facial-facial anastomosis follows ＂synaptic stripping＂.We measured the intensity of Cy3-fluorescence after immunostaining for glial fibrillary acidic protein（GFAP） as an indirect indicator of synaptic coverage of axotomized neurons in the facial nucleus of mice lacking FGF-2（FGF-2^（-/-） mice）.There was no difference in GFAP-Cy3-fluorescence（pixel number,gray value range17-103） between intact wildtype mice（2.12± 0.37×10~7） and their intact FGF-2^（-/-） counterparts（2.12±0.27×10~7） nor after facial-facial anastomosis ＋handling（wildtype：4.06±0.32×10~7;FGF-2^（-/-）：4.39±0.17×10~7）.However,after facial-facial anastomosis,GFAP-Cy3-fluorescence remained elevated in FGF-2^（-/-）-animals（4.54±0.12×10~7）,whereas manual otimulation reduced the intensity of GFAP-immunofluorescence in wild type mice to values that were not significantly different from intact mice（2.63±0.39×10）.We conclude that FGF-2 is not required to underpin the beneficial effects of manual stimulation at the neuro-muscular junction,but it is required to minimize astrogliosis in the brainstem and,by implication,restore synaptic coverage of recovering facial motoneurons.

Numerical Simulation of the Flow around Two-dimensional Partially Cavitating Hydrofoils

In the present study, a new approach is applied to the cavity prediction for two-dimensional （2D） hydrofoils by the potential based boundary element method （BEM）. The boundary element method is treated with the source and doublet distributions on the panel surface and cavity surface by usethe of the Dirichlet type boundary conditions. An iterative solution approach is used to determine the cavity shape on partially cavitating hydrofoils. In the case of a specified cavitation number and cavity length, the iterative solution method proceeds by addition or subtraction of a displacement thickness on the cavity surface of the hydrofoil. The appropriate cavity shape is obtained by the dynamic boundary condition of the cavity surface and the kinematic boundary condition of the whole foil surface including the cavity. For a given cavitation number the cavity length of the 2D hydrofoil is determined according to the minimum error criterion among different cavity lengths, which satisfies the dynamic boundary condition on the cavity surface. The NACA 16006, NACA 16012 and NACA 16015 hydrofoil sections are investigated for two angles of attack. The results are compared with other potential based boundary element codes, the PCPAN and a commercial CFD code （FLUENT）. Consequently, it has been shown that the results obtained from the two dimensional approach are consistent with those obtained from the others.

Gender stereotyping in the accounting profession in Turkey

Gender stereotypes are descriptive beliefs about how males and females actually differ. Occupational gender stereotyping labels males and females performing an occupation in the context of gender stereotypes. Therefore, occupational gender stereotyping may serve as one of the barriers in women＇s career advancement. Within this framework, this study aims to examine the occupational gender stereotyping in the accounting profession in Turkey. Based on a survey conducted with business students, the perceived gender of the accounting profession is studied. In addition, a visual study is used to define occupational accounting stereotypes. Overall it is found that there is a significant difference between the stereotypes of male and female accountants＇ in Turkey, where the profession is （largely, overwhelmingly） male dominated.
