Background and purpose Symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis(sICAS)is associated with a considerable risk of recurrent stroke despite contemporarily optimal medical treatment.Severity of luminal stenosis in sICAS and its haemodynamic significance quantified with computational fluid dynamics(CFD)models were associated with the risk of stroke recurrence.We aimed to develop and compare stroke risk prediction nomograms in sICAS,based on vascular risk factors and these metrics.Methods Patients with 50%-99%sICAS confirmed in CT angiography(CTA)were enrolled.Conventional vascular risk factors were collected.Severity of luminal stenosis in sICAS was dichotomised as moderate(50%-69%)and severe(70%-99%).Translesional pressure ratio(PR)and wall shear stress ratio(WSSR)were quantified via CTA-based CFD modelling;the haemodynamic status of sICAS was classified as normal(normal PR&WSSR),intermediate(otherwise)and abnormal(abnormal PR&WSSR).All patients received guideline-recommended medical treatment.We developed and compared performance of nomograms composed of these variables and independent predictors identified in multivariate logistic regression,in predicting the primary outcome,recurrent ischaemic stroke in the same territory(SIT)within 1 year.Results Among 245 sICAS patients,20(8.2%)had SIT.The D2H2A nomogram,incorporating diabetes,dyslipidaemia,haemodynamic status of sICAS,hypertension and age≥50 years,showed good calibration(P for Hosmer-Lemeshow test=0.560)and discrimination(C-statistic 0.73,95%CI 0.60 to 0.85).It also had better performance in risk reclassification and provided larger net benefits in decision curve analysis,compared with nomograms composed of conventional vascular risk factors only,and plus the severity of luminal stenosis in sICAS.Sensitivity analysis in patients with anterior-circulation sICAS showed similar results.Conclusions The D2H2A nomogram,incorporating conventional vascular risk factors and the haemodynamic significance of sICAS as assessed in CFD models,could be a useful tool

objectives The predisposition of intracranial atherosclerotic disease(ICAD)to East Asians over Caucasians infers a genetic basis which,however,remains largely unknown.Higher prevalence of vascular risk factors(VRFs)in Chinese over Caucasian patients who had a stroke,and shared risk factors of ICAD with other stroke subtypes indicate genes related to VRFs and/or other stroke subtypes may also contribute to ICAD.Methods Unrelated symptomatic patients with ICAD were recruited for genome sequencing(GS,60-fold).Rare and potentially deleterious single-nucleotide variants(SNVs)and small insertions/deletions(InDels)were detected in genome-wide and correlated to genes related to VRFs and/or other stroke subtypes.Rare aneuploidies,copy number variants(CNVs)and chromosomal structural rearrangements were also investigated.Lastly,candidate genes were used for pathway and gene ontology enrichment analysis.Results Among 92 patients(mean age at stroke onset 61.0±9.3 years),GS identified likely ICAD-associated rare genomic variants in 54.3%(50/92)of patients.Forty-eight patients(52.2%,48/92)had 59 rare SNVs/InDels reported or predicted to be deleterious in genes related to VRFs and/or other stroke subtypes.None of the 59 rare variants were identified in local subjects without ICAD(n=126).31 SNVs/InDels were related to conventional VRFs,and 28 were discovered in genes related to other stroke subtypes.our study also showed that rare CNVs(n=7)and structural rearrangement(a balanced translocation)were potentially related to ICAD in 8.7%(8/92)of patients.Lastly,candidate genes were significantly enriched in pathways related to lipoprotein metabolism and cellular lipid catabolic process.Conclusions our GS study suggests a role of rare genomic variants with various variant types contributing to the development of ICAD in Chinese patients.

An armature structure for 3D shapes

We present a novel armature structure for 3D articulated shapes, called SBall short for skeletal balls, which includes two parts： a one-dimensional skeleton and incident balls. our algorithm mainly focuses on constructing the armature structure. This structure is based on an approximation skeleton which is homotopy equivalent to the shape. Each ball in the structure connects a skeletal joint and an interior region of the shape. The boundary vertices on the shape surface are attached onto the SBall using the power diagram of the ball set. A bilateral o^tering algorithm and a variational segmentation algorithm are proposed to enhance the quality of SBall. Finally, applications of this structure are discussed.

Role of Nd_2o_3 nanoparticles addition on microstructural and superconducting properties of yBa_2Cu_3o_(7–δ) ceramics

The effects of Nd2o3 nanoparticles addition on microstructure, transport and AC susceptibility properties of yBa2Cu3o7–δ（y123） superconductors were systematically investigated using X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron micrograph （SEM）, four point probe measurement and AC spectrometer. It was found that the added samples were predominant by y-123 phase beside small amount of y-211 and unreacted Nd2o3secondary phases. All added samples preserved the orthorhombic structure similar to the pure sample and no orthorhombic-to-tetragonal transition occurred. The samples became more porous and their grain size significantly de-creased with addition of Nd2o3. The addition of nano-Nd2o3 disturbed the grain growth of y123, thus resulting in the degradation of superconducting properties of the samples. The superconducting transition temperature （Tc onset） of samples decreased from 92 K for x=0.0 to 78 K forx=1.0 wt.%, which could be attributable to oxygen vacancy disorder. From AC susceptibility result, the inter- and intra-granular loss peaks became wider and broader with increase of Nd2o3 addition due to the weakening of grains coupling. on the other hand, the inter-granular critical current density,Jcm, was found to increase with Nd2o3 addition and had the highest value at x=0.6, confirming that Nd2o3 nanoparticles acted as pinning centers in y123 matrix.

Effect of gadolinium incorporation on optical characteristics of yNbo_4:Eu^(3+) phosphors for lamp applications

Eu3＋-doped （y,Gd）Nbo4 phosphor was synthesized by solid-state reaction for possible application in cold cathode fluorescent lamps. A broad absorption band with peak maximum at 272 nm was observed which was due to the charge transfer between Eu3＋ ions and neighboring oxygen anions. A deep red emission at the peak wavelength of 612 nm was observed which could be attributed to the 5D0→7F2 transition in Eu3＋ ions. The highest luminance for y1-x-yGdyNbo4：Eux3＋ under 254 nm excitation was achieved at Eu3＋ concentration of 18 mol.% （x=0.18） and Gd3＋ concentration of 8.2 mol.% （y=0.082）. The luminance of y0.738Gd0.082Nbo4：Eu3＋0.18 was higher than that of a typical commercial phosphor y2o3：Eu3＋ and the CIE chromaticity coordinate was （0.6490, 0.3506）, which was deeper than that of y2o3：Eu3＋. The particle size of the synthesized phosphors was controlled by the NaCl flux and particle size as high as 8 μm with uniform size distribution of particles was obtained.

Cardiac mucosa at the gastroesophageal junction:An Eastern perspective

AIM:To investigate the nature and origin of cardiac mucosa(CM).METHoDS:Biopsy samples from sixty-one individuals were included in this study. The specimens were taken "at","just below",or "just above" the gastroesophageal junction,including the histologic squamocolumnar junction. Clinical data were obtained by reviewing electronic medical records for each patient. Patients with a history of stomach adenoma or carcinoma and esophageal carcinoma were excluded,and cases that were endoscopically suspicious of Barrett's esophagus or a polyp were also ruled out. Histologic and endoscopic reviews were performed blinded to the patient's clinical data. Histologic evaluation wasconducted by two pathologists,and endoscopic review was performed by a endoscopist with wide experience in the field. Histologically,the columnar epithelium of squamocolumnar junction,presence and severity of acute and chronic inflammation,atrophy,intestinal metaplasia,and presence of carditis were evaluated. Endoscopically,reflux esophagitis was evaluated by Los Angeles(LA) classification,hiatal hernias were classified by Hill grade,and gastroesophageal flap valves were assessed. RESULTS:Fifty-nine of the 61(96.7%) patients were Korean; 65.6%(40/61) of the patients underwent endoscopy according to the schedule of the National Health Insurance Program as a screening inspection. of these,only 20.0%(8/40) of cases had reflux s y m p t o m s. C M w a s p r e s e n t i n 4 1 / 6 1( 6 7. 2 %) individuals,and its presence was associated with older age compared to oxyntocardiac mucosa/oxyntic mucosa(60.59 ± 2.02 years vs 51.55 ± 3.35 years; P = 0.018). The presence of CM was associated with endoscopic diagnosis of esophagitis according to the LA classification(P = 0.022). CM was associated with mononuclear cell infiltration and neutrophilic infiltration,which were statistically significant(P = 0.001,and P = 0.004,respectively). Th is study was conducted to investigate the effect of site-specific variable fertilization following digital fert ility map generated fro m soil analysis on rice growth and yield. The site -specific application of fert ilizer was implemented by using rice transplanter equipped with side dressing applicator and global positioning system（GPS）. Coefficient of variation（C.V.） o f soil nitrogen content was reduced after experiment, and spatial variat ion of semivariogram was reduced. Rice g rowth fro m tillering to ripening stage, plant height, tiller and panicle nu mber increased at site -specific variable fertilization treat ment, and coefficient variation（C.V.） of each growth characteristics was lower than those of conventional fertilizat ion treat ment. As a result, rice field uniformity increased by site-specific variable fertilizer application. Head rice y ield of site-specific application plot increased by 9% to 492kg/10a fro m 450kg/10a of the control plot, and its CV was significantly reduced to 3.5 compared to 7.8 o f the control plot. In addition, there was no significant difference at amy lose, protein contents and whiteness of milled rice, but its CV was reduced.

背景:脂肪源性间充质干细胞具有自我更新能力且在体外特定条件下具有多向分化潜能,在临床上具有广泛的应用前景。然而,脂肪源性间充质干细胞的分离培养仍存在诸多困难与不足。目的:体外分离培养获得兔脂肪源性间充质干细胞,对其形态学、生物学特性进行观察,并鉴定其向成骨、成脂分化的潜能。方法:切取兔颈背区皮下脂肪,用胶原酶消化法分离兔脂肪源性间充质干细胞,进行体外培养,流式细胞仪检测细胞表面标志物,CCK-8法检测细胞活性并绘制细胞生长曲线。第4代兔脂肪源性间充质干细胞向成脂、成骨诱导分化后进行油红o染色、茜素红染色、碱性磷酸酶染色,观察其成脂、成骨分化潜能。结果与结论:兔脂肪源性间充质干细胞呈长梭形漩涡样贴壁生长,能稳定传代至第10代,增殖能力强;流式细胞仪检测可高表达CD29、CD90及CD44,而CD34和CD45表达较低;成脂诱导后的兔脂肪源性间充质干细胞油红o染色呈阳性;成骨诱导后的兔脂肪源性间充质干细胞碱性磷酸酶和茜素红染色均呈阳性,以上结果显示实验成功分离培养出兔脂肪源性间充质干细胞,获得的细胞生长稳定,增殖活跃,高表达间充质干细胞的表面抗原以及具有向成骨、成脂等多向分化的潜能,有望为骨组织工程提供理想的种子细胞。

Background During the CoVID-19 pandemic,decreased volumes of stroke admissions and mechanical thrombectomy were reported.The study’s objective was to examine whether subarachnoid haemorrhage(SAH)hospitalisations and ruptured aneurysm coiling interventions demonstrated similar declines.Methods We conducted a cross-sectional,retrospective,observational study across 6 continents,37 countries and 140 comprehensive stroke centres.Patients with the diagnosis of SAH,aneurysmal SAH,ruptured aneurysm coiling interventions and CoVID-19 were identified by prospective aneurysm databases or by International Classification of Diseases,10th Revision,codes.The 3-month cumulative volume,monthly volumes for SAH hospitalisations and ruptured aneurysm coiling procedures were compared for the period before(1 year and immediately before)and during the pandemic,defined as 1 March-31 May 2020.The prior 1-year control period(1 March-31 May 2019)was obtained to account for seasonal variation.Findings There was a significant decline in SAH hospitalisations,with 2044 admissions in the 3 months immediately before and 1585 admissions during the pandemic,representing a relative decline of 22.5%(95%CI−24.3%to−20.7%,polisation of ruptured aneurysms declined with 1170-1035 procedures,respectively,representing an 11.5%(95%CI−13.5%to−9.8%,p=0.002)relative drop.Subgroup analysis was noted for aneurysmal SAH hospitalisation decline from 834 to 626 hospitalisations,a 24.9%relative decline(95%CI−28.0%to−22.1%,pysm coiling was noted in low coiling volume hospitals of 41.1%(95%CI 32.3%to 50.6%,p=0.008)despite a decrease in SAH admissions in this tertile.Interpretation There was a relative decrease in the volume of SAH hospitalisations,aneurysmal SAH hospitalisations and ruptured aneurysm embolisations during the CoVID-19 pandemic.These findings in SAH are consistent with a decrease in other emergencies,such as stroke and myocardial infarction.
