Spatiotemporal variability of rain-on-snow events in the arid region of Northwest China

Rain-on-snow(ROS)events involve rainfall on snow surfaces,and the occurrence of ROS events can exacerbate water scarcity and ecosystem vulnerability in the arid region of Northwest China(ARNC).In this study,using daily snow depth data and daily meteorological data from 68 meteorological stations provided by the China Meteorological Administration National Meteorological Information Centre,we investigated the spatiotemporal variability of ROS events in the ARNC from 1978 to 2015 and examined the factors affecting these events and possible changes of future ROS events in the *** results showed that ROS events in the ARNC mainly occurred from October to May of the following year and were largely distributed in the Qilian Mountains,Tianshan Mountains,Ili River Valley,Tacheng Prefecture,and Altay Prefecture,with the Ili River Valley,Tacheng City,and Altay Mountains exhibiting the most *** on the intensity of ROS events,the areas with the highest risk of flooding resulting from ROS events in the ARNC were the Tianshan Mountains,Ili River Valley,Tacheng City,and Altay *** number and intensity of ROS events in the ARNC largely increased from 1978 to 2015,mainly influenced by air temperature and the number of rainfall ***,due to the snowpack abundance in areas experiencing frequent ROS events in the ARNC,snowpack changes exerted slight impact on ROS events,which is a temporary ***,elevation imposed lesser impact on ROS events in the ARNC than other *** the ARNC,the start time of rainfall and the end time of snowpack gradually advanced from the spring of the current year to the winter of the previous year,while the end time of rainfall and the start time of snowpack gradually delayed from autumn to *** may lead to more ROS events in winter in the *** results could provide a sound basis for managing water resources and mitigating related disasters caused by ROS events in the ARNC.

Convenient non-invasive flow monitoring would facilitate the operation and control in microfluidic chips,but is challenging due to the small space of microchannels and complex operation required in traditional optical *** this work,we propose a novel non-invasive strategy to probe microfluidic flows via streaming potential *** sealing one side of the microchannel with a piece of hydrogel film,streaming potential inside the channel can be clearly detected by electrodes at outer surface of the hydrogel due to ion diffusion in the *** is detected without sensors contacting with the internal ***,the electrodes shape like a tiny probe,which can move around mapping the flow distribution in a chip with the spatial resolution of 1 mm and flow rate detection limit of 3μL·min–*** inside the channels can also be detected,due to the fluctuation of streaming voltage when gas-liquid interface flows through the electrode,showing an easy and potential way for multi-functional flow monitoring in microfluidic chips.

Rice cooking and eating qualities(CEQ)are mainly determined by cooked rice textural parameters and starch physicochemical ***,the genetic bases of grain texture and starch properties in rice have not been fully *** conducted a genome-wide association study for apparent amylose content(AAC),starch pasting viscosities,and cooked rice textural parameters using 279 indica rice accessions from the 3000 Rice Genome *** identified 26 QTLs in the whole population and detected single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)with the lowest P-value at the Waxy(Wx)locus for all traits except pasting temperature and ***,we detected significant SNPs at the SUBSTANDARD STARCH GRAIN6(SSG6)locus for AAC,setback(SB),hardness,adhesiveness,chewiness(CHEW),gumminess(GUM),and *** subsequently divided the population using a SNP adjacent to the Waxy locus,and identified 23 QTLs and 12 QTLs in two sub-panels,WxT and WxA,*** these sub-panels,SSG6 was also identified to be associated with pasting parameters,including peak viscosity,hot paste viscosity,cold paste viscosity,and consistency ***,a candidate gene encoding monosaccharide transporter 5(OsMST5)was identified to be associated with AAC,breakdown,SB,CHEW,and *** total,39 QTLs were co-localized with known genes or previously reported *** identified genes and QTLs provide valuable information for genetic manipulation to improve rice CEQ.

Hydrogen production from proton exchange membrane water electrolysis is constrained by the sluggish kinetics of the anodic oxygen evolution ***_(2)has attracted considerable attention due to its low reaction overpotential,but its inferior stability remains a major ***,a strategy is proposed to enhance the catalytic activity and stability of CoRuOx nanoparticles by doping Co and regulating the ordering degree of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)by air *** was found that the CoRuOx@CNTs-300 catalyst exhibited the best catalytic activity and stability when the annealing temperature was 300°*** the current density of 10 mA cm−2,the overpotential of this catalyst was only 201 mV,which was nearly 100 mV lower than that of commercial RuO_(2)(300 mV).Surprisingly,there was no significant increase in the overpotential when tested at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 for 50 *** density functional theory calculations indicate that the high activity of the catalyst is due to the electronic coupling of CoRuOx nanoparticles and CNTs,and that the introduction of Co and CNTs improves the electronic structure and solvation energies of the Ru in the active site,dramatically increasing the structural stability.

Based on the weather monitoring data,NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data and Doppler weather radar data,the circulation background,atmospheric stability and changing characteristics of radar echoes of a large-scale hail weather process in Ulanqab City on July 5,2021 were *** results show that this hail weather process occurred in the summer afternoon of the hail-prone period in Ulanqab City,and was formed under the influence of upper trough and the circulation background of"two troughs and one ridge",which was conducive to the occurrence of strong convection *** low-level shear line provided the dynamic and water vapor conditions for the occurrence of the *** strong convection weather,water vapor was transported mainly from the Bay of Bengal,India and Nepal over the *** the occurrence of strong convection weather,water vapor transport increased significantly,and the low-level water vapor concentrated below 400 hPa,with obvious convergence and vertical *** characteristic parameters of radar echoes,such as combined reflectivity,vertically integrated liquid,and echo top height,increased significantly before and during the occurrence of hail,which had good indicative significance for the prediction and early warning of hail.

Based on NCEP reanalysis data,EDAS data and ground observation data,the causes of a strong sandstorm process in Ulanqab City from March 14 to 15,2021 were *** analysis shows that"3.15"sandstorm,a sandstorm process accompanied by northwest gale behind the front,was caused by strong cold air in the *** the early stage,the Mongolian cyclone resulted in the increase of temperature and decrease of pressure on the *** a strong surface cold high pressure at the rear of the cyclone invaded the city,a strong pressure gradient between high and low pressure provided dynamic conditions for the sandstorm *** transit of the surface cold front was the sign of the sandstorm outbreak,and the downward transmission of momentum at high altitudes increased the wind speed near the surface.
