Predicting Resting-state Functional Connectivity With Efficient Structural Connectivity

The complex relationship between structural connectivity(SC) and functional connectivity(FC) of human brain networks is still a critical problem in neuroscience. In order to investigate the role of SC in shaping resting-state FC, numerous models have been proposed. Here, we use a simple dynamic model based on the susceptible-infected-susceptible(SIS) model along the shortest paths to predict FC from SC. Unlike the previous dynamic model based on SIS theory, we focus on the shortest paths as the principal routes to transmit signals rather than the empirical structural brain network. We first simplify the structurally connected network into an efficient propagation network according to the shortest paths and then combine SIS infection theory with the efficient network to simulate the dynamic process of human brain activity. Finally, we perform an extensive comparison study between the dynamic models embedded in the efficient network, the dynamic model embedded in the structurally connected network and dynamic mean field(DMF) model predicting FC from SC. Extensive experiments on two different resolution datasets indicate that i) the dynamic model simulated on the shortest paths can predict FC among both structurally connected and unconnected node pairs; ii) though there are fewer links in the efficient propagation network, the predictive power of FC derived from the efficient propagation network is better than the dynamic model simulated on a structural brain network; iii) in comparison with the DMF model,the dynamic model embedded in the shortest paths is found to perform better to predict FC.

Particle Filter is one of the most widely used algorithm in object tracking, because it can handle the nonlinear and/or non-Gaussian problems. However due to loss of diversity among particles, its tracking performance is not ideal. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, a novel double-layer particle filter is proposed. The particles are divided into two layers:the parent particles and the child particles. The child particles are used to remember the latest state of the parent particles and optimize the parent particles. In addition, only the parent particles are updated during re-sampling while the child particles remain unchanged, which maintains the diversity of the particles to some extent. Finally, the parent particles are used to estimate the state of the object. Experimental results show that the tracking performance of the proposed double-layer particle filter outperforms that of the basic particle filter.

CO_(2) hydrogenation to methanol is a significant approach to tackle the problem of global warming and simultaneously meet the demand for the portable ***-ZnO catalysts with various kinds of promoters have received wide ***,the role of promoter and the form of active sites in CO_(2) hydrogenation are still in ***,various molar ratios of ZrO_(2) were added into the Cu-ZnO catalysts to tune the distributions of Cu^(0) and Cu+species.A volcano-like trend between the ratio of Cu+/(Cu++Cu^(0))and the amount of ZrO_(2) is presented,among which the CuZn10Zr(the molar ratio of ZrO_(2) is 10%)catalyst reaches the highest ***,the maximum value of space-time yield to methanol with 0.65 gMeOH/(gcat·hr)is obtained on CuZn10Zr at reaction conditions of 220°C and 3 *** characterizations demonstrate that dual active sites are proposed during CO_(2) hydrogenation over CuZn10Zr *** exposed Cu^(0) takes participate in the activation of H_(2),while on the Cu^(+) species,the intermediate of formate from the co-adsorption of CO_(2) and H_(2) prefers to be further hydrogenated to CH_(3)OH than decomposing into the by-product of CO,yielding a high selectivity of methanol.

Amplitude-frequency-aware deep fusion network for optimal contact selection on STN-DBS electrodes

Parkinson’s disease(PD) is treated effectively by deep brain stimulation(DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus(STN), using an electrode inserted into the head of a PD patient. The electrode has multiple electrical contacts along its length, so the best may be chosen for selectively stimulating the STN. Neurosurgeons usually determine the optimal stimulated contact via the clinical experience of the neurosurgeon and the motor improvement of PD patients. This is a time-consuming and labor-intensive trial-and-error process. The selection of optimal stimulated contact highly depends on the locations of sweet spots, which are manually identified by the characteristic features of microelectrode recordings(MERs). This paper presents an amplitude-frequency-aware deep fusion network for optimal contact selection on STN-DBS *** method first obtains the amplitude-frequency fusion features by combining the MERs time sequence features and the amplitude sequence features, and then uses the convolutional neural network(CNN) with convolutional block attention module(CBAM) to identify both the border of the STN and the sweet spots to implant the electrode. The optimal stimulated contact can be selected according to the distribution of the sweet spots. Experimental results indicate that, for successful surgeries, neurosurgeons and the proposed AI solution selected the same optimal contacts. Furthermore, the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for STN and sweet spot identification. The proposed method shows great potential for optimal contact selection to improve the efficiency of STN-DBS surgery and reduce the dependence on clinicians’ experience.

Effect of high cholesterol diet on spatial learning and memory in a rat model of Alzheimer’s disease

BACKGROUND： Recently study indicates a potentially important link between cholesterol, Aβ deposit, and clinicopathological manifestation of Alzheimer＇s disease （AD）. OBJECTIVE： To study the effect of high cholesterol diet on cognitive function and neuronal loss of hippocampal dentate gyrus in AD model rats. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A randomized controlled animal study, which was performed in the Laboratory of Stem Cells, Department of Pathology, Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA from February 2006 to March 2007. MATERIALS： Twenty healthy, male, Wistar rats, aged 3-4 months and weighing （300 ± 20） g, were selected for this study. A β 1- 40 was provided by Sigma Company, USA. Standard diet and high cholesterol diet mixed with cholesterol （5%）, sodium hypocholic acid （1%）, lard （10%）, and ordinary rat food （84%） were provided by Experimental Animal Center, Institute of Field Surgery, Daping Hospital, Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA. METHODS： Rats were fed on high cholesterol diet or standard diet for eight successive weeks. Then, rats were randomly divided into cholesterol diet ＋A β, high cholesterol diet ＋ phosphate buffered saline（PBS）, standard diet ＋ A β, and standard diet ＋ PBS group, with five rats in each group. AD rat models were established by local injection of A β 1-40 solution （10 μ L） into the hippocampal dentate gyrus. Rats in the control group were injected with the same volume of PBS. After injection, rat were fed for two weeks MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Neuronal cells in the hippocampal dentate gyrus were detected by Nissl staining; spatial navigation and spatial probe were detected by Morris water maze to reflect learning and memory. RESULTS： Twenty rats were included in the final analysis, without any loss. （1） Neuronal numbers： neuronal loss in the high cholesterol diet ＋ A β and standard diet ＋ A β groups was significantly higher than in the PBS groups （P 〈 0.01）. Efficacy and safety of early anticoagulation after endovascular treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation

Background The timing for initiating anticoagulant therapy in acute ischaemic stroke(AIS)patients with atrial fibrillation who recanalised after endovascular treatment(EVT)is *** objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of early anticoagulation after successful recanalisation in AIS patients with atrial *** Patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion and atrial fibrillation who were successfully recanalised by EVT within 24 hours after stroke in the Registration Study for Critical Care of Acute Ischemic Stroke after Recanalization registry were *** anticoagulation was defined as the initiation of unfractionated heparin(UFH)or low-molecular-weight heparin(LMWH)within 72 hours after ***-early anticoagulation was defined if it was initiated within 24 *** primary efficacy outcome was the score on the modified Rankin Scale(mRS)at day 90,and the primary safety outcome was symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage within 90 *** Overall,257 patients were enrolled,of whom 141(54.9%)initiated anticoagulation within 72 hours after EVT,including 111 within 24 hours.A significant shift towards better mRS scores at day 90 was associated with early anticoagulation(adjusted common OR 2.08(95%CI 1.27 to 3.41)).Symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage was comparable between patients treated with early and routine anticoagulation(adjusted OR 0.20(95%CI 0.02 to 2.18)).Comparison of different early anticoagulation regimens showed that ultra-early anticoagulation was more significantly associated with favourable functional outcomes(adjusted common OR 2.03(95%CI 1.20 to 3.44))and reduced the incidence of asymptomatic intracranial haemorrhage(OR 0.37(95%CI 0.14 to 0.94)).Conclusions In AIS patients with atrial fibrillation,early anticoagulation with UFH or LMWH after successful recanalisation is associated with favourable functional outcomes without increasing the risk of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhages.
