Copulatory pattern and behavior in a semi-captive population of Eld＇s deer

Male copulatory patterns, female multiple copulation and male post-copulatory guarding were studied in Eld＇s deer Cervus eldi in Datian National Nature Reserve, China. Mating behavior in 18 females and 11 males from a group of 61 semi-captive Eld＇s deer were observed. The majority （55.8%） of copulations occurred between 15：00-19：00 h. The ejaculatory mount was preceded by an average of 5.1 prior mounts. Successful copulation consisted of a single thrust with ejaculation during one intromission, with no lock. This copulatory pattern is classified as pattern No. 15 （no lock, no intravaginal thrusting, single intromission, and multiple ejaculation） and No. 16 （no lock, no intravaginal thrusting, single intromission, and single ejaculation） under Dewsbury＇s scheme （1972） and as No. 16 （no lock, no thrusting, single and brief intromission） under Dixson＇s classification （1998）. Copulation frequency was 1.5 ± 0.9 times for males/females with the same female/male per day. The duration of the final mount, which included ejaculation, was brief （3.4±1.3 s）, and ejaculation usually terminated copulation. Eleven females copulated more than once in this study： three of them copulated with several males （multi-male copulations） and the remainder copulated with a single male （repeated copulations）. Our results indicate that some female Eld＇s deer may seek multiple copulations to be a strategy to improve the genetic quality of their offspring or to avoid harassment. Post-copulatory guarding of females by males followed all copulations, with dominant males guarding for significantly longer than subordinate males. Dominant males appear to be more effective at post-copulatory guarding than subordinate males. Subordinate males engaged in a quicker pre-copulatory phase to improve their chances of finishing copulation before being forced to accede to dominant males [Current Zoology 57 （3）： 284-292, 2011].

On the Unique Continuation Properties for Elliptic Operators with Singular Potentials

Let u be a solution to a second order elliptic equation with singular potentials belonging to Kato-Fefferman-Phong＇s class in Lipschitz domains. An elementary proof of the doubling property for u^2 over balls is presented, if the balls are contained in the domain or centered at some points near an open subset of the boundary on which the solution u vanishes continuously. Moreover, we prove the inner unique continuation theorems and the boundary unique continuation theorems for the elliptic equations, and we derive the Bp weight properties for the solution u near the boundary.

Genetic analysis and gene fine mapping for a rice novel mutant(rl_(9(t)))with rolling leaf character

Leaf shape is an important parameter for ideotype breeding in rice, and the rolling of leaf is also beneficial to efficient ripening of grains. This encourages the explorations of new genes that regulate leaf shape. In this study, genetic analysis and gene mapping were carried out for a novel rolling leaf mutant identified from japonica variety Zhonghua 11. The SSR marker analysis showed that the mutant was controlled by a single recessive gene (rl9(t)) lo- cated on chromosome 9. Fine mapping of the Rl9(t) locus was conducted with 30 new STS markers de- veloped around Rl9(t) anchored region based on the sequence diversity between Nipponbare and 93-11. The fine mapping necessitated the contruction of a PAC contig encompassing the Rl9(t) locus, which was delimited to a 42 kb region. This could therefore en- hance the cloning of the target gene in further stud- ies.

Innovative coaxial high-temperature thin-film sensor with core-shell structure surpassing traditional multilayer films

High-temperature thin-film sensors(TFSs)often suffer from inadequate tolerance to elevated *** this study,an innovative approach is presented to fabricate in situ integrated TFSs with a core-shell structure on alloy components using coaxial multi-ink printing *** method replaces traditional layerby-layer(LbL) deposition and LbL sintering processes and achieves simplified one-step *** coaxial TFS includes a conductive Pt core for conducting and sensing and a dielectric shell for electrical isolation and high-temperature *** coaxial Pt resistance grid demonstrates excellent high-temperature stability,with a resistance drift rate of only 0.08%·h^(-1) at 800 ℃,significantly lower than traditional Pt *** employing this method,a Pt thin-film strain gauge(TFSG) is fabricated that boasts remarkable high-temperature electromechanical *** effectively addresses the problem of sensitivity degradation experienced by traditional LbL Pt TFSGs when subjected to high *** demonstrate the system integration potential of the technique by printing and verifying the functionality of a long-path thinfilm resistance grid on turbine blades,which can withstand butane flame up to ~1300℃.These results showcase the potential of core-shell structure of the coaxial TFS for high-temperature applications,providing a novel approach to develop high-performance TFS beyond traditional multilayer structure.

Transferring CdTe Nanoparticles from Liquid Phase to Polyvinylpyrrolidone Nanofibers by Electrospinning and Detecting Its Photoluminescence Property

The major aim of this work was to synthesize thio-stabilized CdTe nanoparticles（NPs） in an aqueous solution, which was then enwrapped with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide（CTAB）, and finally transferred to the polyvinylpyrrolidone（PVP） matrix by electrospinning. The PVP nanofibers containing CdTe NPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy（SEM） and transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, to observe the morphology of the nanofibers and the distribution of CdTe NPs. The selective area electronic diffraction（SAED） pattern verified that CdTe NPs were cubic lattice. The photoluminescence（PL） spectrum indicated that CdTe NPs existed in an optical style in PVP nanofibers. Moreover, X-ray photoelectron spectra（XPS） revealed that thiol-stabilized CdTe NPs were enwrapped by CTAB, and PVP acted as a dispersant in the process of electrospinning.

Phase regulated suppression and enhancement switches of four-wave mixing and fluorescence

We experimentally study the phase regulated switch between elcctromagnctically induced trans- parency and electromagmetically induced absorption in probe transmission signal and the conver- sion between enhancement and suppression in four-wave mixing and fluorescence signals for the first time. By changing the relative phase, electromagnetically induced transparency can be eonverted into electromagnetically induced absorption. In this process, the conversion from suppression to enhancement is also obtained in four-wave mixing and fluorescence signals. This research can be applied in non-linear optical device like optical switch and optical wavelength convertor.

The cathode passivation induced by the accumulated solid products is a serious issue which impede the application of Li-O_(2) ***,we applied Ga-In liquid metal(Ga-In LM)functionalized cathode to alleviate the cathode passivation by using the fluidity and self-healing surface of Ga-In LM microdrops,which could hardly be covered by the solid discharge products,such as Li_(2)O_(2) and LiOH during charge/discharge cycles.

We consider the moment map m:PV_(n)→iu(n)for the action of GL(n)on V_(n)=■^(2)(C^(n))^(∗)■C^(n),and study the critical points of the functional Fn=||m||2:PV_(n)→***,we prove that[μ]∈PV_(n) is a critical point if and only if Mμ=cμI+Dμfor some cμ∈R and Dμ∈Der(μ),where m([μ])=Mμ||μ||*** we show that any algebraμadmits a Nikolayevsky derivationϕμwhich is unique up to automorphism,and if moreover,[μ]is a critical point of Fn,thenϕμ=−1 cμDμ.Secondly,we characterize the maxima and minima of the functional Fn:A_(n)→R,where A_(n) denotes the projectivization of the algebraic varieties of all the n-dimensional associative ***,for an arbitrary critical point[μ]of Fn:A_(n)→R,we obtain a description of the algebraic structure ofμ.Finally,we classify the critical points of Fn:A_(n)→R for n=2 and n=3,respectively.
