Microsurgical vasoepididymostomy for patients withinfectious obstructive azoospermia, cause, outcome,and associated factors

Azoospermia is of great importance to male infertility. Obstructive azoospermia （OA） due to infection is the most prevalent form of OA in China and has been less studied. We aim to observe the treatment outcome of microsurgical vasoepididymostomy （VE） and also to identify the factors relative to the result after reconstructive surgery. Two hundred and eight men presenting with OA due to infection during the study period from July 2010 to July 2013 were prospectively evaluated. Clinical examination, semen analysis, serum follicle stimulating hormone （FSH）, and scrotal ultrasound were done before surgical exploration. Among the 198 men who were selected for surgical procedures, 159 candidates underwent microsurgical VE with sperm detected in the epididymal fluid. As for the other 39 cases, reconstruction was not feasible. The average age was 28.5 ＋ 3.9 years （range 22-38）, with average follow-up being 16.5 ~ 5.9 months （range 4-28）. According to the 150 cases being followed after VE procedures, the total patency rate was 72% （108/150）. During follow-up, 38.7% （58/150） natural pregnancies occurred, with overall live birth rate being 32.7% （49/150）. Our data suggested that microsurgical VE is an effective therapy for postinfectious epididymal OA. Individualized counseling with prognosis based on etiology should be offered to patients to select optical therapy.

To investigate the effects of the cavitation on the vortex-induced vibration,the flow and the vibration characteristics of a flexible circular cylinder in the non-cavitating and cavitating flows at Re=200 are simulated using a fluid-structure interaction(FSI)solver,developed in the OpenFOAM *** accuracy of the fluid-structure interaction solver is verified using the benchmark *** a freely vibrating circular cylinder,the characteristics of the vortex-induced vibration are determined at different frequency *** frequency lock-in is observed in both the cavitating flow and the non-cavitating flow,and the lock-in frequency range is larger in the cavitating flow with a smaller vibration *** the lock-in frequency range,due to the reduction of the fluid forces and the resonance effects at the dominant frequency,the vibration amplitude is decreased in the cavitating flow,as compared to the non-cavitating ***,the low-density vapor and the cavitation collapse weaken the constraints of the flow and the stability of the shedding vortices,respectively,making the flow around the circular cylinder more sensitive to the structural ***,the lock-in frequency range is larger in the cavitating flow.

Investigation of the cross-reaction mechanism of C_6H_5F-HNO_2 aqueous solution irradiated at 355 nm by transient absorbance spectrum technique

The transient absorption spectrum technique was employed to investigate the cross-reaction mecha-nism of C6H5F-HNO2 aqueous solution irradiated at 355 nm. The characteristic and the kinetic parame-ters of transient species were also detected. Hydroxyl radical derived from the photolysis of HNO2 was added to monofluorobenzene with a second-order rate constant of (5.83±0.17)×109 L·mol-1·s-1 to form an adduct, C6H5F···OH, which was able to react with HNO2 as the main reaction pathway with a rate constant of (8.3±0.1)×107 L·mol-1·s-1. The C6F6···OH adduct can also be decayed by elimination of H2O to yield monofluorophenyl radical C6H4F·. By GC-MS technique, the final products were identified to be monofluorophenol, nitro-monofluorobenzene, nitro-monofluorophenol and para-fluorobiphenyl.

Follicle-stimulating hormone as a predictor for sperm retrieval rate in patients with nonobstructive azoospermia, a systematic review and meta-analysis

Noninvasive parameters for predicating sperm retrieval rate （SRR） are desirables. Follicle-stimulating hormone （FSH） has been an important predictor since the first years of testicular sperm extraction. Recent studies showed continuous interests in FSH, with both pros and cons. Thus, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the diagnostic value of FSH as a predictor for patients with nonobstructive azoospermia （NOA） taking testicular sperm retrieval. Eligible diagnosis tests were identified from electronic databases （Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Medline, and EMBASE） without language restrictions. The database search, quality assessment, and data extraction were performed independently by two reviewers. The reference standard was the sperm retrieval result. Diagnostic value of FSH were explored by area under receiver operation characteristics （ROC） curve using Review Manager, version 5.1.0 （Cochrane Collaboration, Oxford, UK） and Meta-DiSc, version 1.4. Meta regression will be done if there is heterogeneity. Then, we find 11 tests including a total of 1350 patients met the inclusion criteria. Our pooled analysis showed that the area under ROC curve of FSH was 0.72 ~ 0.04. Meta regression analyses showed that region and average age have an influence on the diagnostic value. FSH showed more diagnostic value with patients in East Asia and with younger patients. We concluded that FSH had moderate value in independently predicating SRR in men with NOA （area under curve 〉0.7）. More detailed diagnosis tests should be anticipated in the future to confirm the diagnostic value of other noninvasive parameters.

Effects of biomass co-pyrolysis and herbaceous plant colonization on the transformation of tailings into soil like substrate

Enhancing soil organic matter characteristics,ameliorating physical structure,mitigating heavy metal toxicity,and hastening mineral weathering processes are crucial approaches to accomplish the transition of tailings substrate to a soil-like *** incorporation of biomass co-pyrolysis and plant colonization has been established to be a significant factor in soil substrate formation and soil pollutant *** this,there is presently an absence of research efforts aimed at synergistically utilizing these two technologies to expedite the process of mining tailings soil substrate *** current study aimed to investigate the underlying mechanism of geochemical changes and rapid mineral weathering during the process of transforming tailings substrate into a soil-like substrate,under the combined effects of biomass co-smoldering pyrolysis and plant *** findings of this study suggest that the incorporation of smoldering pyrolysis and plant colonization induces a high-temperature effect and biological effects,which enhance the physical and chemical properties of tailings,while simultaneously accelerating the rate of mineral *** improvements include the amelioration of extreme pH levels,nutrient enrichment,the formation of aggregates,and an increase in enzyme activity,all of which collectively demonstrate the successful attainment of tailings substrate *** of the acceleratedweathering was verified by phase and surfacemorphology analysis using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron *** corrosion and fragmentation on the surface *** weathering resulted in corrosion and fragmentation of the surface of the treated *** study confirms that co-smoldering pyrolysis of biomass,combined with plant colonization,can effectively promote the transformation of tailings into soil-like *** method has can effectively address the key challenges that have previously hind

Bioaccessibility and health risk assessment of hydrophobic organic pollutants in soils from four typical industrial contaminated sites in China

There have been reports of potential health risks for people from hydrophobic organic pollutants,such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs),polychlorinated hydrocarbons(PCHs),and organophosphate flame retardants(OPFRs).When a contaminated site is used for residential housing or public utility and recreation areas,the soil-bound organic pollutantsmight pose a threat to human *** this study,we investigated the contamination profiles and potential risks to human health of 15 PAHs,6 PCHs,and 12 OPFRs in soils from four contaminated sites in *** used an in vitro method to determine the oral bioaccessibility of soil *** PAHswere found at concentrations ranging from26.4 ng/g to 987 ng/***(0.27-14.3 ng/g)and OPFRs(6.30-310 ng/g)were detected,but at low levels compared to earlier *** levels of PAHs,PCHs,and OPFRs released from contaminated soils into simulated gastrointestinal fluids ranged from 1.74%to 91.0%,2.51%to 39.6%,and 1.37%to 96.9%,*** on both spiked and unspiked samples,we found that the oral bioaccessibility of pollutantswas correlated with their logKow andmolecularweight,and the total organic carbon content and pH of *** in 13 out of 38 contaminated soil samples posed potential high risks to *** considering oral bioaccessibility,nine soils still posed potential risks,while the risks in the remaining soils became *** contribution of this paper is that it corrects the health risk of soil-bound organic pollutants by detecting bioaccessibility in actual soils from different contaminated sites.
