KIT and platelet-derived growth factor receptor α wild-type gastrointestinal stromal tumor associated with neurofibromatosis type 1: Two case reports

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs) associated with neurofibromatosis are uncommon compared to their gastrointestinal counterparts. Patients with neurofibromatosis type 1(NF-1) have an increased risk of developing gastrointestinal tumors, including rare types such as *** SUMMARY A 60-year-old male Chinese patient was diagnosed with NF-1 10 years ago and presented with upper abdominal discomfort and black stools. Endoscopic ultrasonography and an enhanced abdominal computed tomography scan revealed a mass located 4 cm from the muscular layer of the descending duodenum. A 59-year-old Chinese woman who was diagnosed with NF-1 25 years ago presented with sudden unconsciousness and black stools. Multiple masses in the duodenum were noted by echogastroscopy and an enhanced abdominal computed tomography scan. Both patients presented with cutaneous neurofibromas. The histologic examination of tumors from both patients revealed spindle cells and low mitotic activity. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells showed strong positivity for KIT(CD117), DOG-1, CD34, and Dehydrogenase Complex Subunit B, and negativity for SMA, desmin, S-100, and β-catenin. None of the six tumors from two patients had KIT exon 9, 11, 13, or 17 or platelet-derived growth factor receptor α exon 12 or 18 mutation, which is a typical finding for sporadic GISTs. None of the six tumors from the two patients had a BRAFV600 E mutation. The patients were alive and well during the follow-up period(range:0.6-5 yr).CONCLUSION There have been only a few previous reports of GISTs associated with *** GISTs associated with NF-1 have morphologic and immunohistochemical similarities with GISTs, the pathogenesis, incidence,genetic background, and prognosis are not completely known. A medical history of NF-1 in a patient who has gastrointestinal bleeding or anemia and an intraabdominal mass with nonspecific computed tomography features may help in diagnosing GIST by virtue of the well-known

As one of the largest gene families, F-box domain proteins have important roles in regulating various devel- opmental processes and stress responses. In this study, we have investigated a rice F-box domain gene, MAIF1. The MAIF1 protein is mainly localized in the plasma membrane and nucleus. MAIF1 expression is induced rapidly and strongly by abscisic acid （ABA） and abiotic stresses. MAIF1 expression is also induced in root tips by sucrose, independent of its hy- drolytic hexose products, glucose and fructose, and the plant hormones auxin and cytokinin. Overexpression of MAIF1 reduces rice ABA sensitivity and abiotic stress tolerance and promotes rice root growth. These results suggest that MAIF1 is involved in multiple signaling pathways in regulating root growth. Growth restraint in plants is an acclimatization strategy against abiotic stress, Our results also suggest that MAIF1 plays the negative role in response to abiotic stress possibly by regulating root growth.

To better understand the response of rice to nutrient stress, we have taken a systematic approach to identify rice genes that respond to deficiency of macronutrients and affect rice growth. We report here the expression and bio- logical functions of a previously uncharacterized rice gene that we have named NRR （nutrition response and root growth）. NRR is alternatively spliced, producing two 5＇-coterminal transcripts, NRRa and NRRb, encoding two proteins of 308 and 223 aa, respectively. Compared to NRRb, NRRa possesses an additional CCT domain at the C-terminus. Expression of NRR in rice seedling roots was significantly influenced by deficiency of macronutrients. Knock-down of expression of NRRa or NRRb by RNA interference resulted in enhanced rice root growth. By contrast, overexpression of NRRa in rice exhibited significantly retarded root growth. These results revealed that both NRRa and NRRb played negative regulatory roles in rice root growth. Our findings suggest that NRRa and NRRb, acting as the key components, modulate the rice root archi- tecture with the availability of macronutrients.

Reducing the measurement errors in nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers

Nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers serve as the physical platform for nonadiabatic holonomic quantum *** quantum computation has entered the noisy intermediate-scale era, building accurate intermediate-scale nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers is clearly necessary. Given that measurements are the sole means of extracting information, they play an indispensable role in nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers. Accordingly, developing methods to reduce measurement errors in nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers is of great importance. However, while much attention has been given to the research on nonadiabatic holonomic gates, the research on reducing measurement errors in nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers is severely lacking. In this study, we propose a measurement error reduction method tailored for intermediate-scale nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers. The reason we say this is because our method can not only reduce the measurement errors in the computer but also be useful in mitigating errors originating from nonadiabatic holonomic gates. Given these features,our method significantly advances the construction of accurate intermediate-scale nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers.

Preparation of silver nanoparticles through the reduction of straw-extracted lignin and its antibacterial hydrogel

Silver nanoparticles(Ag NPs)have attracted attention in the field of biomaterials due to their excellent antibacterial ***,the reducing and stabilizing agents used for the chemical reduction of Ag NPs are usually toxic and may cause water *** this work,Ag NPs(31.2 nm in diameter)were prepared using the extract of straw,an agricultural waste,as the reducing and stabilizing *** analysis revealed that the straw extract contained lignin,the structure of which possesses phenolic hydroxyl and methoxy groups that facilitate the reduction of silver salts into Ag *** surfaces of Ag NPs were negatively charged due to the encapsulation of a thin layer of lignin molecules that prevented their *** the prepared Ag NPs were added to the precursor solution of acrylamide,free radical polymerization was triggered without the need for extra heating or light irradiation,resulting in the rapid formation of an Ag NP-polyacrylamide composite *** inhibition zone test proved that the composite hydrogel possessed excellent antibacterial ability due to the presence of Ag *** prepared hydrogel may have potential applications in the fabrication of biomedical materials,such as antibacterial dressings.

Hot Deformation and Dynamic Recrystallization Behavior of Austenite-Based Low-Density Fe–Mn–Al–C Steel

The hot deformation and dynamic recrystallization （DRX） behavior of austenite-based Fe-27Mn-ll.5A1- 0.95C steel with a density of 6.55 g cm-3 were investigated by compressive deformation at the temperature range of 900-1150 ℃ and strain rate of 0.01-10 s-1. Typical DRX behavior was observed under chosen deformation conditions and yield-point-elongation-like effect caused by DRX of 6-ferrite. The flow stress characteristics were determined by DRX of the 6-ferrite at early stage and the austenite at later stage, respectively. On the basis of hyperbolic sine function and linear fitting, the calculated thermal activation energy for the experimental steel was 294.204 kJ mo1-1. The occurrence of DRX for both the austenite and the 6-ferrite was estimated and plotted by related Zener-Hollomon equations. A DRX kinetic model of the steel was established by flow stress and peak strain without considering dynamic recovery and 6-ferrite DRX. The effects of deformation temperature and strain rate on DRX volume fraction were discussed in detail. Increasing deformation temperature or strain rate contributes to DRX of both the austenite and the 6-ferrite, whereas a lower strain rate leads to the austenite grains growth and the 6-ferrite evolution, from banded to island-like structure.

Pt/TiO_(2) Nanosheets Array Dominated by {001} Facets with Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity

{001}facets dominated single crystalline anatase TiO_(2) nanosheet array(TNSA)was synthe-sized through an optimized organic solvothermal route on uorine-doped tin oxide *** field emission scanning electron microscopy images and X-ray diffraction patterns re-vealed that the{001}synthesized facets dominated TNSA exhibited much higher orientation than that synthesized by hydrothermal *** TNSAs were loaded with Pt nanoparti-cles in uniformly size by using a photodecomposition method,which were further con rmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM).The HRTEM images also revealed that Pt nanoparticles preferred to deposit on{001}*** loading of Pt nanoparticles,the optical absorbance was significantly enhanced,while the photolumines-cence(PL)was *** photocatalytic activity of TNSA was signi cantly improved by Pt loading and reached the maximum with optimal amount of Pt *** optimal amount of Pt on{001}facets is far less than that on TiO_(2) nanoparticles,which may be attributed to the specific atom structure of reactive{001}facets.

Establishment of a rat liver transplantation model with prolonged biliary warm ischemia time

AIM:To investigate the impact of different time points of secondary warm ischemia on bile duct in a rat autologous liver transplantation model with external bile ***:One hundred and thirty-six male inbred SD rats were randomly assigned to one of four groups(Ⅰ-Ⅳ) according to the secondary warm ischemia time of 0,10,20 and 40 min.A rat model of autologous liver transplantation with continuous external biliary drainage under ether anesthesia was *** rats in each group were used to evaluate the one-week survival *** 6 h,24 h,3 d and 7 d after reperfusion of the hepatic artery,6 rats were killed in each group to collect the blood sample via the infrahepatic vena cava and the median lobe of liver for *** ischemia time of liver,cold perfusion time,anhepaticphase,operative duration for biliary external drainage and survival rates in the four groups were analyzed for the establishment of ***:No significant difference was shown in warm ischemia time,anhepatic phase and operative duration for biliary external drainage among the four *** of the 40 rats in this study evaluated for the one-week survival rate died,including three deaths of severe pulmonary infection in group Ⅳ.A significant decrease of one-week survival rate in group Ⅳ was noted compared with the other three *** the prolongation of the biliary warm ischemia time,the indexes of the liver function assessment were significantly elevated,and biliary epithelial cell apoptosis index also *** examinations showed significantly aggravated inflammation in the portal area and bile duct epithelial cell injury with the prolonged secondary warm ischemia *** were found in the micrangium around the biliary tract in some sections from groups Ⅲ and Ⅳ.CONCLUSION:The relationship between secondary warm ischemia time and the bile duct injury degree is time-dependent,and 20 min of secondary warm ischemia time is feasible for the study of bi
