Potential effects of the nursing work environment on the work-family conflict in operating room nurses

BACKGROUND The nursing working environment is an important subsystem in the hospital environment.A good working environment could have a positive impact on ***,the work-family conflict and unsatisfactory working environment could significantly reduce their working enthusiasm,efficacy as well as the overall quality of the nursing,increase their fatigue,and thereby compromise their career *** To explore the possible status quo and to analyze the correlation between work environment perception and the work-family conflict among nurses in the operating *** A total of 312 operating room nurses from two first-class hospitals at Grade 2 and two first-class hospitals at Grade 3 in China from May to September 2017 were included in this research using the cluster sampling *** data,including the general information questionnaire,the practice environment scale of the nursing work index(PES-NWI),and the work-family conflict scale,were systematically *** correlation analysis was applied to analyze the correlation between the two scores,with influencing factors analyzed by hierarchical regression *** A total of 312 questionnaires were issued,and the response rate and effective questionnaire rate were both 96.15%(300/312).The total scores of the PES-NWI scale and the work-family conflict scale were 3.07±0.43(vs maximum up to 4 points)and 52.32±8.79(vs maximum up to 90 points),*** scores of the PES-NWI scale were negatively correlated with that of work-family conflict scale(all P<0.05).The perception of the nursing work environment and the number of night shifts per month were the major factors contributing to the workfamily conflict(all P<0.05).CONCLUSION The nursing work environment and the work-family conflict among nurses in the operating room were both found at a medium level with a negative correlation between the two.

Influence of paeonol on expression of COX-2 and p27 in HT-29 cells

AIM： To investigate the effect of paeonol on controlling the proliferation of colorectal cancer cell line HT-29 and to discuss its possible mechanism. METHODS： The inhibitory effect of paeonol on proliferation of HT-29 cells was detected by M-I-I- assay. The results of apoptosis were measured by flow cytometry. Immunocytochemical staining was performed to detect the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 （COX-2） and protein p27 in HT-29 cells treated with paeonol at different concentrations. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction （RT- PCR） was used for mRNA analysis. RESULTS： From the data of both MTT and flow cytometry, we observed that cell proliferation was inhibited by different concentrations of paeonol. By immunocytochemical staining, we found that HT-29 cells treated with paeonol （0.024-1.504 mmol/L） reflected reduced expression of COX-2 and increased expression of p27 in a dose-dependent manner. RT-PCR showed that paeonol down-regulated COX-2 and up-regulated p27 in a dose- and time-dependent manner in HT-29 cells. CONCLUSION： One of the apoptotic mechanisms of paeonol is down-regulation of COX-2. p27 is upregulated simultaneously and plays an important part in controlling cell proliferation and is a crucial factor in the Fas/FasL apoptosis pathway.

Conformational Transitions and Self-assembly of Regenerated Spider Silk Protein in Water

Spider silk, relying on its exceptional mechanical properties, has attracted extensive attention throughout the world. The structure of a material can influence its mechanical properties. Investigation of the structure of spider silk includes amino acid composition, molecular structure, self-assembly, and crystallization, among other characteristics. Herein, the effects of concentration, time, alkali metal ions （Na^＋and K ^＋） and pH on the conformational transition and self-assembly of regenerated Ornithoctonus huwena spider dragline silk protein （spidroin） in water were investigated using circular dichroism （CD） and atomic force microScopy （AFM）. Spidroin concentration, time and Na ＋ ions slightly influenced the conformational transition of spidroin molecules. However, K ＋ ions and pH induced the formation of a β- sheet structure. Increasing spidroin concentration or time increased the aggregation of spidroin and enhanced the formation of nanoffiaments. K ~ ions enhanced the serf-assembly of spidroin into nanofilaments. The self-assembled nanofilaments appeared at a pH of approximately 6. 11. Both lower and higher pH induced aggregation. At a lower pH, the aggregation was composed of nanopartides, whereas higher pH induced the aggregation of nanoffiaments, likely from the synergistic effect of Na ^＋ ions and pH.

Extracting Energy Magnetically from Plunging Region of Black-Hole Accretion Disk

An analytical expression for the jet power extracted from the plunging region between a black hole （BH） horizon and the inner edge of the disk （hereafter the PL power） is derived based on an improved equivalent circuit in BH magnetosphere with a mapping relation between the radial coordinate of the plunging region and that of the remote astrophysical load. It is shown that the PL power is of great importance in explaining jet power and dominates over the BZ and DL powers for a wide value range of the BH spin. In addition, we show that the PL power derived in our model can be fitted with the strong jet powers of several 3CR FR I radio galaxies, which cannot be explained by virtue of the BZ mechanism. Furthermore, the condition for negative energy of the accreting particles in the plunging region is discussed with the validity of the second law of BH thermodynamics.

Phosphorus Speciation in Wetland Sediments of Zhujiang (Pearl) River Estuary,China

Phosphorus fractions and adsorption-release characteristics of sediments in the Zhujiang （Pearl） River estuary wetland were investigated. Results showed that the total phosphorus （TP） content in surface sediments ranged from 648.9 mg/kg to 1064.0 mg/kg; inorganic phosphorus （IP） was the major fraction of TP and ranged from 422.5 mg/kg to 643.9 mg/kg. Among the inorganic phosphorus, the main fractions were phosphorus bound to A1 and Fe （Fe/A1-P）, and calcium-bound phosphorus （Ca-P）, accounting for 23%-42% and 21%-67% of IP, respectively. The vertical distribution of TP contents were significantly positive correlated with organic phosphorus （Org-P） and Fe/A1-P contents. The bio-available phosphorus contents in vertical sediments varied from 128.6 mg/kg to 442.9 mg/kg, mainly existed in Fe-AI/P fraction, and increased from the bottom to top sediments. The transport of phosphorus in sediment-water in- terface was controlled by the soil characteristics. The active Fe and A1 content was considered as the main factor that determines adsorp- tion capacity in vegetated marsh wetland. The P buffering capacity of the sediments in vegetated marsh wetland was greater than that in mudflat wetland. The potential risk of eutrophication in the study area is high. Reducing terrestrial phosphorus discharge and preventing the sediment Fe/A1-P release to the interstitial water are the possible solutions to reduce the risk of eutrophication in estuary wetlands, and planting vegetation in estuary wetland can also reduce the release of phosphorus in surface sediment.

Experimental and Theoretical Study of Reactions between Manganese Oxide Cluster Cations and Hydrogen Sulfide

Manganese oxide cluster cations Mnm180n＋ were prepared by laser ablation and reacted with hydrogen sulfide （H2S） in a fast flow reactor under thermal collision conditions. A time-of-flight mass spectrometer was used to detect the cluster distributions before and after the interactions with H2S. The experiments suggest that oxygen-for-sulfur （O/S） ex- change reaction to release water took place in the reactor for most of the manganese oxide cluster cations： MnmlSOn＋＋H2S→Mnm18On-1S＋＋H218O. Density functional theory cal- culations were performed for reaction mechanisms of Mn202＋＋H2S, Mn203＋＋H2S, and Mn204＋＋H2S. The computational results indicate these O/S exchange reactions are both thermodynamically and kinetically favorable, thus in good agreement with the experimental observations. The O/S exchange reactions identified in this gas-phase cluster study parallel similar behavior of related condensed phase reaction systems.

Folding of EK peptide and its dependence on salt concentration and pH: A computational study

In this study, we apply both palrwise AMBER03 force field and the recently developed polarized force field to study the folding process of EK peptide under various ion strength and pH conditions. The polarized force field is based on our newly proposed adaptive hydrogen bond-specific charge （AHBC） scheme. These two force fields differ only by the atomic charges. Solvent effect is described with generalized Born models （IGB5 in AMBER 10 package）. The result shows that although when applying AMBER03 charge, the helical structure is preferred, its dependence on salt concentration and pH is qualitatively wrong. While using AHBC the peptide finds its native structure within 10 ns, and then fluctuates around this folded state. Under high salt concentration or extreme pH conditions the calculated helical structure probability drops, which is in qualitative agreement with the experiment. Analysis of the atomic charges and the interaction between the donor-acceptor pair in main hydrogen bonds shows that the helical structure is stabilized when polarization effect is counted. It again shows that polarization effect is a very important improvement over traditional force field and is essential for protein folding. We also prove that the salt bridge interaction between 4-residue apart GLU and LYS residues is not critical to the stability of helical structure of EK peptide, but is merely an auxiliary factor, also in agreement with the experiment.

Optical Transient Source AT2021lfa:A Possible“Dirty Fireball”

AT2021lfa,also known as ZTF21aayokph,was detected by the Zwicky Transient Facility on 2021 May 4,a 05:34:48 ***-up observations were conducted using a range of ground-based optical telescopes,as wel as Swift/XRT and VLA ***2021lfa is classified as an“orphan afterglow”candidate due to its rapid flux decline and its reddened color(g-r=0.17±0.14 mag).For an optical transient source without promp gamma-ray detection,one key point is to determine its burst *** we measure the burst time through fitting the initial bump feature of AT2021lfa and obtain its burst time as 2021 May 3,at 22:09:50 *** afterglowpy,we model the multi-band afterglow of AT2021lfa and find that the standard model canno reproduce the late radio observations *** that the microphysical parameters ε_(e),ε_(B)(the energy fraction given to electrons and magnetic field),andξN(the fraction of accelerated electrons)may vary with time we then model the afterglow of AT2021lfa taking into account the temporal evolution of the physical parameters ε_(e),ε^(B),and ξ_(N) and find in this case the multi-wavelength observations can be reproduced *** initial Lorentz factor of AT2021lfa can be estimated from the peak time of the early afterglow,which yields a value of about 18 suggesting that AT2021lfa should be classified as a“dirty fireball.”From the upper limit for the prompt emission energy of AT2021lfa,we obtain that the radiation efficiency is less than 0.02%,which is much smaller than that of ordinary gamma-ray bursts(GRBs).It is also interesting that the fitted values of jet angle and viewing angle are very large,θ_(c)~0.66 rad,θ_(v)~0.53 rad,which may lead to the low Lorentz factor and radiation *** compared with GRB afterglow samples,it is evident that the onset bump timescale of AT2021lfa satisfies the empirical relationships observed in GRB ***,the luminosity of AT2021lfa falls within the range of observations for GRB samples;howeve
