Marine ciliate community in relation to eutrophication of coastal waters in the Yellow Sea

We assessed the potential of marine ciliate community as an indicator to coastal water quality using water samples collected from four stations in thc Yellow Sea in the summer 2000. The four stations were characterized by different levels of pollution. The ciliate communities consisted primarily of tintinnids and aloricate ciliates that were 〈30 um. A total of 78 species were classified： 55 species at Station 2, 51 species each at Stations l and 4, and 47 species at Station 3. The mean number of species at each site was 29.2±2.0 （Station 1）, 28.5±2.9 （Station 2）, 27.8±1.7 （Station 3）, and 24.5±2.3 （Station 4）. The abundance was highly variable： 19 331±11 187 ind./L at Station 1, 7 960±5 639 ind./L at Station 2, 29 015±12 999 ind./L at Station 3, and 8 190±4 658 ind./L at Station 4. Our results suggest that neither the simple chemical analysis （e.g. chemical oxygen demand, dissolved inorganic nitrogen, and phosphate） nor the eutrophication/pollution index adequately described the water quality at the four stations. The same was true of the number of species and their abundance, both of which had no correlation with the chemical indices. In contrast, Margalef＇s diversity index values （3.12 at Station 2, 2.89 at Station 1, and 2.64 at Stations 3 and 4） generally discriminated the water quality status of the four stations. The difference in water quality among the stations was strongly supported by the pattern of species richness （i.e. the total number of species） of ciliates at each station. Our evaluation was consistent with the results of long-term water quality monitoring at the four stations. With increasing eutrophication, we observed also a compositional and functional shift in the ciliate assemblages from algivorous oligotrich/choreotrich to nonselective-omnivorous gymnostomatids to bacterivorous-detrivorous scuticociliatids. Thus, eiliates may be used to indicate the coastal water quality status of a given site.

Late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic volcanic-sedimentary history of the southeastern margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt:Timing of uplift of the Inner Mongolia paleo-uplift

The Kulun region is located in the eastern Bainaimiao arc belt on the southeastern margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt(CAOB),adjacent to the North China Craton(NCC)to the *** region records the closure of the PaleoAsian Ocean during the Paleozoic to early Mesozoic and is key to study the tectonic evolution of the northern margin of the *** conducted zircon U-Pb geochronology and Hf isotope analysis of volcanic-sedimentary and intrusive rocks in the Kulun *** volcanic-sedimentary rocks were previously assigned an early Carboniferous age,but include volcanic rocks with ages of 267–266 Ma and sedimentary rocks with youngest detrital zircon age peaks of 265–244 Ma,which were intruded by a granite with an age of 242 *** indicates that these rocks are actually middle Permian to Middle Triassic in age(267–242Ma)and correspond to the Qingfengshan and Liujiagou ***,two volcanic rock samples have highεHf(t)values(+1.6 to+16.1)and relatively young two-stage Hf model ages(1095–327 Ma),indicating their sources associated with the *** age spectra and Hf isotopic characteristics of detrital zircons from the sedimentary rocks suggest that,during the middle Permian to Middle Triassic,the sedimentary provenance in the Kulun region was mainly the ***,by the Early Jurassic,the provenance changed to the NCC(i.e.,the Inner Mongolia Paleo-uplift,IMPU).This result,combined with the development of a series of conglomerates on the northern margin of the NCC in the Late Triassic(i.e.,Xingshikou,Xiaoyingzi,and Xiaohekou formations),indicates the Kulun region experienced an abrupt change in paleogeography during the Late Triassic,with the IMPU undergoing significant uplift and thus becoming the main sediment source in the Kulun *** on the Late Triassic alkaline igneous belt(235–215 Ma)in the IMPU,we speculate that this uplift was caused by detachment of the southward-subducting Paleo-Asian oceanic plate,which occurred in a post-o

The adsorption of pollutants can not only promote the direct surface reaction,but also modify the catalyst itself to improve its photoelectric characteristics,which is rarely studied for water treatment with inorganic photocatalyst.A highly crystalline BiOBr(c-BiOBr)was synthesized by a two-step preparation *** to the calcination,the highly crystalline enhanced the interface interaction between pollutant and *** complex of organic pollutant and[Bi_(2)O_(2)]^(2+)could promote the active electron transfer from the adsorbed pollutant to c-BiOBr for the direct pollutant degradation by holes(h^(+)).Moreover,the pollutant adsorption actually modified c-BiOBr and promoted more unpaired electrons,which would coupling with the photoexcitation to promote generate more O_(2)^(•-).The molecular modification effect derived from pollutant adsorption significantly improved the removal of *** work strongly deepens the understanding of the molecularmodification effect from the pollutant adsorption and develops a novel and efficient approach for water treatment.

Mechanism of AsperosaponinⅥRelated to EGFR/MMP9/AKT/PI3K Pathway in Treatment of Rheumtoid Arthritis

Objective:To explore the mechanism of action of asperosaponinⅥ(AⅥ)in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis(RA)and validate it in ex vivo experiments using network pharmacology and molecular docking ***:The predicted targets of AⅥwere obtained from PharmMaper,UniProt and Swiss Target Prediction platforms,the disease targets were collected from Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man,Therapeutic Target Database and Gene Cards databases,the intersection targets of AⅥand RA were obtained from Venny 2.1.0,and the protein-protein interaction(PPI)network was obtained from STRING database,which was analyzed by Cytoscape software and screened to obtain the core *** software was used to analyze PPI network and screen the core *** on the Database for Annotation,Visualization and Integrated Discovery database,Gene Ontology functional and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis were performed,and Cytoscape software was used to construct the"DiseasePathway-Target-Drug"network,which was finally verified by molecular docking and animal ***:Network pharmacological studies showed that AⅥwas able to modulate 289 targets,with 102 targets for the potential treatment of RA,with the core pathway being the AKT/PI3K signaling pathway,and the core targets being the epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)and matrix metalloproteinase 9(MMP9).Molecular docking results showed that AⅥcould produce strong binding with both of the 2 core *** vitro cellular experiments showed that AⅥreduced nitric oxide,prostaglandin E_2,tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),interleukin-6(IL-6),and IL-1βlevels(P<0.05)and inhibited cyclooxygenase-2,nitric oxide synthase,EGFR,MMP9,phosphorylated phosphoinositide 3-kinase(p-PI3K),and phosphorylated serine-threonine kinase(p-AKT)proteins(P<0.05).The results of in vivo studies showed that AⅥimproved RA score and foot swelling thickness and decreased TNF-α,IL-6,p-PI3K and p-AKT levels in RA rat

Riemann-Hilbert Problem and Multiple High-order Poles Solutions of the Focusing mKdV Equation with Nonzero Boundary Conditions

The focusing modified Korteweg-de Vries(mKdV)equation with multiple high-order poles under the nonzero boundary conditions is first investigated via developing a Riemann-Hilbert(RH)*** begin with the asymptotic property,symmetry and analyticity of the Jost solutions,and successfully construct the RH problem of the focusing mKdV *** solve the RH problem when 1/S_(11)(k)has a single highorder pole and multiple high-order ***,we derive the soliton solutions of the focusing mKdV equation which corresponding with a single high-order pole and multiple high-order poles,***,the dynamics of one-and two-soliton solutions are graphically discussed.

Novel mouse model of Alzheimer's disease exhibits pathology through synergistic interactions among amyloid-β,tau, and reactive astrogliosis

Alzheimer'sdisease(AD)isaprogressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairment and distinct neuropathological features,including amyloid-β plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and reactive astrogliosis. Developing effective diagnostic,preventative, and therapeutic strategies for AD necessitates the establishment of animal models that accurately recapitulate the pathophysiological processes of the disease. Existing transgenic mouse models have significantly contributed to understanding AD pathology but often fail to replicate the complexity of human ***, these models are limited in their ability to elucidate the interplay among amyloid-β plaques,neurofibrillary tangles, and reactive astrogliosis due to the absence of spatially and temporally specific genetic manipulation. In this study, we introduce a novel AD mouse model(APP/PS1-TauP301L-Adeno mice) designed to rapidly induce pathological symptoms and enhance understanding of AD mechanisms. Neurofibrillary tangles and severe reactive astrogliosis were induced by injecting AAVDJ-EF1a-hTauP301L-EGFP and Adeno-GFAP-GFP viruses into the hippocampi of 5-month-old APP/PS1 *** months post-injection, these mice exhibited pronounced astrogliosis, substantial amyloid-β plaque accumulation,extensiveneurofibrillarytangles,accelerated neuronal loss, elevated astrocytic GABA levels, and significant spatial memory deficits. Notably,these pathological features were less severe in AAVTauP301L-expressing APP/PS1 mice without augmented reactive astrogliosis. These findings indicate an exacerbating role of severe reactive astrogliosis in amyloid-β plaque and neurofibrillary tangle-associated pathology. The APP/PS1-TauP301L-Adeno mouse model provides a valuable tool for advancing therapeutic research aimed at mitigating the progression of AD.

Pyrimidine derivative as eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor for nickel−aluminum bronze in seawater

A pyrimidine derivative,6-phenyl-2-thiouracil(PT),was synthesized for developing a corrosion inhibitor(CI)applied in the protection of the nickel−aluminum bronze(NAB)in *** anti-corrosion effect of PT was evaluated by the mass loss experiment,electrochemical tests and surface *** results show that PT exhibits excellent inhibition performance and the maximum inhibition efficiency of PT reaches 99.6%.The interaction mechanism was investigated through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and molecule dynamics simulation based on the density functional theory(DFT).The S-Cu,Al-N and Cu-N bonds are formed by the chemical interactions,leading to the adsorption of PT on the NAB *** diffusion of corrosive species is hindered considerably by the protective PT film with composition of(PT-Cu)_(ads)and(PT-Al)_(ads)on the PT/NAB *** degree of suppression is increased with the addition of more PT molecules.

Mixed-charge glycopolypeptides as antibacterial coatings with long-term activity

Planktonic bacteria adhere and subsequently form biofilms on implantable medical devices can cause severe infections that have become the major types of hospital-acquired infections. Traditional coatings for the implants are frequently lack of long-term antifouling and bactericidal activities. It is still a big challenge to simultaneously improve the antifouling and bactericidal activities of the coatings. Herein,we report that mixed-charge glycopolypeptide coatings are of long-term antibacterial activities to efficiently inhibit the biofilm growth. The glycosylation of mixed-charge polypeptides has led to a significant improvement of both antifouling and bactericidal activities. The cooperative effect of the saccharide residues and mixed-charge residues improved the resistance of the polypeptide coatings against protein adsorption. The saccharide and L-glutamic acid(E) residues collectively enhanced the bacterial membrane-disruption of cationic L-lysine(K) residues, leading to potent bactericidal activity. Meanwhile,the glycopolypeptide coatings showed superior biocompatibility, long-term antibiofilm and anti-infection properties in two types of mouse subcutaneous infection models and one type of mouse urinary tract infection model. This work provides a new strategy to achieve antibacterial coatings with long-term activities for preventing implantable medical device associated infections.
