Multilayer polarization elements and their applications to polarimetric studies in 20～400 eV region are mainly reviewed. General principle of selecting material combinations to get high linear polarizance multilayers of reflection type is given with practical examples,with periodic or non-periodic layer structures depending on the usage. Transmission type is introduced as linear polarizer and phase shifter. Their applications include polarization diagnosis of laboratory optical systems and synchrotron radiation beamlines of linear and circular polarization,magnetic rotation experiments such as Faraday rotation and magnetic Kerr rotation on magnetic films and multilayers,and ellipsometry to measure optical constants of thin films precisely. Polarization analysis of soft X-ray fluorescence using multilayer-coated grating is also mentioned. Finally this review is summarized with outlook of further developments.

Smoke is unexpected powder-splashing caused by electrostatic force and is one of the main problems hindering the process stability and applicability of the powder bed fusion electron beam(PBF-EB)*** this study,mechanical stimulation was suggested to suppress smoke of gas-atomized(GA)Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb powder using Al_(2)O_(3) and WC ball *** deformation mechanism of the GA powder depending on the ball milling media was discussed based on the developed particle morphology distribu-tion map and contact mechanics *** was revealed that the rapid decrement of flowability and packing density after WC ball milling owing to the formation of angular fragments by the brittle *** variation of surface and electrical properties by mechanical stimulation was investigated via XPS,TEM,and Impedance *** electrical resistivity of the ball-milled powders gradually decreased with increasing milling duration,despite the increased oxide film thickness,and the capacitive response disappeared in Al-60 and WC-30 via metal-insulator *** could be due to the accumulation of strain and defects on the oxide film via mechanical *** smoke mechanism of ball-milled powders was discussed based on the percolation *** the smoke experiment,smoke was more suppressed for WC-10 and WC-20 than that for Al-40 and Al-50,respectively,despite the longer charge dissipation *** could be due to the high probability of contact with conductive *** the Al-60 and WC-30 powders,smoke was further restricted by the formation of a percolation cluster with metal-like electrical *** believe that this study will contribute to a better understanding of the smoke mechanism and process optimization of the PBF-EB.

Studies of multilayer structure in depth direction by soft X-ray spectroscopy

It is demonstrated that two kinds of soft X-ray spectroscopy are useful as nondestructive methods to in- vestigate multilayer structures modified by interdiffusion or by chemical reaction of adjoining layers in depth direc- tion. One is the total electron yield (TEY) spectroscopy involving angular dependence measurement. Using this method, it was found that in LiF/Si/LiF trilayers, the Si layers exhibited a characteristic similar to porous Si, and in CaF2/Si/CaF2 trilayers, it was found that CaF2 segregated through the Si layer. Moreover, it has been shown that the thickness of the top layer of a Mo/Si X-ray multilayer can be determined by analyzing TEY signals generated by the standing wave. The other is the soft X-ray emission spectroscopy involving spectral shape analysis. Using this method, it was found that in Mo/Si X-ray multilayers, the interdiffusion or chemical reaction giving rise to deterioration of re- flectance character occurs in as-deposited samples as well as in heated samples. In antiferromagnetic Fe/Si multilay- ers, it was confirmed that there was no existence of pure Si layers, but insulating FeSi2 layers were present. This result suggests that the source of antiferromagnetic coupling is not conduction electrons but quantum wave interference.

Schwarzschild microscopes in vacuum ultraviolet and soft X-ray regions

Microscopes in vacuum ultraviolet and soft X-ray regions using a normal incidence type of Schwarzschild objective are reviewed. The objective consists of a concave mirror and a convex mirror coated with a high reflectance multilayer,having a large numerical aperture comparing with other objectives. The microscopes have been used to diagnose inertia-confinement-fusion plasmas,and to investigate small samples or microstructures of in- organic and organic materials by imaging them using laboratory light sources. Synchrotron radiation has been also used to obtain a microbeam for a photoelectron scanning microscope with a spatial resolution of 0.1 μm. The struc- ture and performance of two laboratory microscopes developed at Tohoku University are demonstrated. One of them is a soft X-ray emission imaging microscope. An image of an artificial pattern made of W and SiO2 on Si wafer by focusing Si L emission was presented. The other is an ultraviolet photoelectron scanning microscope using a He (he- lium) gas discharge lamp. The valence band spectra of a microcrystal of FeWO4 were presented. Furthermore other applications such as demagnifying optics for lithography and optics to gather fluorescence for emission spectroscopy are introduced.

Peritoneal dissemination(PD)is the most common cause of metastasis in gastric cancer(GC).Because there are no standard treatments for PD,it is associated with a poor *** clinicians have performed intraperitoneal chemotherapy for GC with PD,the outcome remains ***,the development of novel treatments and diagnostic tools for PD is expected to improve the prognosis of GC patients with ***,it is essential to elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved in the development of PD in *** this review,the molecular mechanisms of PD(three steps:detachment from the primary tumor,adaptation to the microenvironment of the peritoneal cavity,and attachment to peritoneal mesothelial cells)and new topics in GC are highlighted.

CD21-independent Infection of Epstein-Barr Virus in Human Signet Ring Gastric Carcinoma Cell Line

To study the mechanism of infection of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in gastric carcinoma cells, the Akata and P3HR-1 strains of EBV were used as the test strains of viruses, and the signet ring cell line HSC-39 of gastric carcinoma cells was used as the target cells of infection. The virus-infected cell clones were isolated by limited dilution method. It was found that the EBV-encoded small RNA (EBER) could be detected in the infected cells. The Akata and P3HR-1 EBV infected parental cells and most of clones expressed EBNA1, but not EBNA2. Latent membrane protein (LMP-1) and LMP-2, and the Q promoter (p), but not the Cp/Wp for EBNA gene transcription was active in the infected parental cells as well as all the clones. Uninfected HSC-39 cells did not express CD21, however, Akata but not P3HR-1 EBV-infected clones expressed low level of CD21 mRNA. These results demonstrate that HSC-39 cells are susceptible to both EBV strains and EBV infects HSC-39 cells through the CD21-independent pathway. This study defines a signet ring type of gastric carcinoma cells line as a unique target cells for the study of EBV infection mechanism.

Mucinous carcinoma of the breast has histologically distinct features and constitutes 1-3% of all breast cancers. It produces variable amounts of extracellular epithelial mucin and clinically its prognosis is far better than for other types of invasive carcinoma. On the other hand, coarse calcification is a common mammographic feature of benign tumors. There have been few reported cases of breast cancer containing coarse calcification. We present a unique 40 year-old female case of mucinous carcinoma of the breast accompanied by coarse calcification on mammography, which was mimicking fibroadenoma and an unusual variant of breast cancer. This case illustrates the importance of bearing in mind that mucinous carcinoma may demonstrate coarse calcification.

Purpose: Surfactant proteins exist in the digestive tract and may play an important role in the host defense. However, the expression of surfactant proteins in the premature digestive system remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of surfactant proteins in the intes-tines and pancreas of murine fetuses. Methods: Immunostaining for SP-A and SP-D was assessed in the small intestine and pancreas of ICR murine fetuses on days 15, 16, 17 and 18 of gestation (normal duration of pregnancy: 19 - 21 days). RT-PCR was performed to detect the expression of spa and spd mRNA in the small intestine and pancreas on day 16, 17 and 18 of gestation. Results: Immunoreactivity for SP-A and SP-D in the acinar cells of pancreas and intestinal mucosal surface were positive on day 16 of gestation onward. RT-PCR revealed that the expression of spa and spd mRNA was significant in the pancreas but weak in the small intestine. Conclusions: Our data revealed that surfactant proteins are present in the fetal intestines and pancreas and that a significant expression of spa and spd mRNA is detected in the fetal pancreas. Pancreas may be a possible organ involved in the synthesis and secretion of surfactant proteins into the intestinal lumen.

对直喷式柴油机中均质充量压燃（HCCI）的着火和燃烧控制进行了研究。研究中通过共轨喷油系统采用了两次喷油技术。第一次喷油用于燃油扩散的早喷,促使改变燃油量,以降低碳氢排放（即低温反应）。第二次喷油用作所有喷入燃油的着火引发物。已发现当早喷保持低温反应时,第二次喷油能够控制预混合气的着火。还发现随着增压压力的提高,着火定时稍有提前,压力升高率明显降低。压力升高率是影响这种燃烧运转极限的因素之一,因此产品发动机应用可变喷嘴涡轮增压器（VNT）可使增压压力得到控制。采用 X 光摄影法对喷束特性和燃烧分析图像进行了研究。没有观察到光焰,从 X 光照片上仅观察到由低温反应产生的脉动。在燃烧室内出现了许多着火点。采用这种燃烧,在第一次喷油和第二次喷油期间可以同时降低 NOx和烟度。这种 HCCI 概念由作者等人命名为成片均质燃烧系统（UNIBUS）,并在2000年8月被应用于日本市场的产品发动机（1KD-FTV、3L 4缸）中。
