Analysis of trace elements in air particulate matters by non-suppressed ion chromatography

＜正＞The determination of organic acids and inorganic anions in serum and urine provides important information for pathological diagnosis of inborn disorders. The current methods for the determination of organic acids are high performance liquid chromatography （HPLC） and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC-Ms）. The procedure requires lengthy sample preparation time and the need of skilled manpower and dedicated instrumentation. With rapid analysis and fast turn around analysis time, procedures based on capillary electrophoresis （CE） have been shown to provide a more suitable method for the identification of acidaemia. To develop a CE procedure capable of simultaneously analyzing a large group of organic, and inorganic anions with physiological interest in human serum and urine, a new buffer system （3mM BTA, 1.5mM TEPA and 15mM Tris） is developed with indirect UV detection at 210 nm upon careful mobility matching with target anions. Under the optimized conditions with pH adjusted to 8.4, a baseline separation is achieved for the following 9 anions （chloride, sulphate, oxalate, succinate, phosphate, carbonate, citrate, pyruvate, and lactate） in a typical serum sample and 10 anions in a urine sample （chloride, sulphate, oxalate, succinate, phosphate, carbonate, citrate, acetate, pyruvate and glucuronate） using an uncoated silica capillary column. Under hydrostatic sampling, working ranges from 0.005-2mM and detection limits from 0.5-4 mM are obtained with satisfactory repeatability for migration time （RsD=0.56-0.83%, n=5） and peak height （4.2-5.5%, n=5） measurement. The CE procedure developed has been applied for real sample analysis, with results showing good repeatability, low detection limit and wide working range. Factors affecting the working conditions and optimization of CE separation of organic, and inorganic anions in human serum and urine samples and the reliability and applicability of the analytical procedure developed will be discussed in the meeting.

The application of non-suppressed ion chromatography for monitoring of trace elements in air particulate matter was studied in the present investigation. The results indicate that the use of microwave acid digestion method is superior in comparison with the conventional thermal acid digestion method as it leads to higher recovery, better reproducibility, lower volatility loss, better protection against environmental contamination and much less digestion time (5 minutes vs. 24 hours). The use of eluent as extractant is shown to reduce the water dip problem in the chro-matogram. The addition of chelating agent in the eluent coupled with UV detection is shown to provide satisfactory chromatographic separation and good sensitivity for the analysis of transition metals present in the air particulate matter. Using the U.s. National Bureau of standards Reference Material 1648 Urban Particulate Matter as standard for checking, the analytical procedure is shown to give good recovery and reproducibility for the detection of the following cations and anions in air particulate matter: Fe2 Cu, Mn, Pb, Zn, Mg, Na, HN4+, Cl-, NO3- and sO42-. Field test was also performed to check the applicability of the method and the results obtained were discussed in the present paper.

The traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)industry is critical to not only for public health but also for economic *** to the European Union(EU)directives,under the EU framework for(traditional)herbal medicinal products,herbal medicines with long history of use can be registered in ***,there is a condition in this directive in which only those that have at least 10e15 years in the EU market are accepted for registration and/or marketing *** author opinion,the condition of 10-15 years of use in EU countries set within the EU regulatory framework is with consideration of the genetic differences which can result in variation in adverse drug responses among different world *** this concept in mind,it is reasonable to project the principal of the EU directive to the Asian countries where TCM is *** like China,singapore,Japan and south Korea that have well established drug registration framework are in best position in executing the best practice and facilitate harmonization of registration for TCM within the ***,the registration process itself allows more safety and efficacy data to be collected systemically before and after product registration/marketing *** are valuable information for future drug *** therapeutic value of TCM is limitless,it has been left out in the EU regulatory framework,and the opportunity for it to be expanded and carried forward in modern medicines is shadowed by the limited number of TCM that are qualified to be registered under the EU regulatory *** early establishment of a harmonized risk-based registration process for TCM in Asian countries is *** will strengthen the database to substantiate the history of safe use and further preserving and expanding the therapeutic values of TCM within and beyond the Asian region.

Minimum temperatures have remarkable impacts on tree growth at high-elevation sites on the Tibetan Plateau,but the shortage of long-term and high-resolution paleoclimate records inhibits understanding of recent minimum temperature *** this study,a warm season(April–september)reconstruction is presented for the past 467 years(1550–2016)based on sabina tibetica ring-width chronology on the Lianbaoyeze Mountain of the central eastern Tibetan *** warm periods and eight cold periods were ***-term minimum temperature variations revealed a high degree of coherence with nearby *** correlations between our reconstruction and global sea surface temperatures suggest that warm season minimum temperature anomalies in the central eastern Tibetan Plateau were strongly influenced by large-scale ocean atmospheric circulations,such as the El Ni?o-southern Oscillation and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation.

中药产业对公众健康和经济增长都至关重要。根据欧盟（EU）指令，在欧盟（传统）草药制品框架下，具有较长使用历史的草药可在欧盟注册。然而，本指令中有一条件，即只有在欧盟市场上至少有10-15年使用历史的草药才能被注册和/或获得上市许可。作者认为，在欧盟监管框架内设定的在欧盟国家有10-15年使用历史的条件考虑了基因差异，基因差异可能导致不同世界人群的药物不良反应发生变化。考虑到这一概念，借鉴欧盟指令的主要内容到亚洲国家这些中药起源国是合理的。中国、新加坡、日本和韩国等国拥有完善的药品注册框架，最能够执行最佳实践和促进统一的区域内中药注册程序。此外，注册过程本身也允许在制品注册/上市许可前后系统地收集更多的安全性和有效性数据。这些都是未来药物开发的宝贵信息。中药的治疗价值是无限的，它被排除在欧盟的监管框架之外，在欧盟监管框架下有注册资格的中药数量有限，这限制了中药在现代药物中扩大使用范围和发扬光大的机会。在亚洲国家中尽早建立统一的基于风险的中药注册程序非常重要。这将强化数据库，以证实中药安全使用的历史，并进一步在亚洲地区内外保存和发扬中医的治疗价值。

As the simple dispersion model tested is not sufficiently accurate to predict the sO2 concentration in complex terrain commonly encountered amongst high rise buildings in Hong Kong, and the lack of comprehensive local wind data at most sites prevents the use of more advanced dispersion model to assess the impact of major air pollutant sources, a receptor model approach is adopted for the apportionment of air pollution sources in Hong Kong. The preliminary results obtained are presented and discussed.
