Design of area and power efficient Radix-4 DIT FFT butterfly unit using floating point fused arithmetic

In this work, power efficient butterfly unit based FFT architecture is presented. The butterfly unit is designed using floating-point fused arithmetic units. The fused arithmetic units include two-term dot product unit and add-subtract unit. In these arithmetic units, operations are performed over complex data values. A modified fused floating-point two-term dot product and an enhanced model for the Radix-4 FFT butterfly unit are proposed. The modified fused two-term dot product is designed using Radix-16 booth multiplier. Radix-16 booth multiplier will reduce the switching activities compared to Radix-8 booth multiplier in existing system and also will reduce the area required. The proposed architecture is implemented efficiently for Radix-4 decimation in time(DIT) FFT butterfly with the two floating-point fused arithmetic units. The proposed enhanced architecture is synthesized, implemented, placed and routed on a FPGA device using Xilinx ISE tool. It is observed that the Radix-4 DIT fused floating-point FFT butterfly requires 50.17% less space and 12.16% reduced power compared to the existing methods and the proposed enhanced model requires 49.82% less space on the FPGA device compared to the proposed design. Also, reduced power consumption is addressed by utilizing the reusability technique, which results in 11.42% of power reduction of the enhanced model compared to the proposed design.

Er^(3+) ion concentration effect on transient and steady-state behavior in Er^(3+):yAG crystal

The effect of Er3＋ ion concentration on transient and steady-state behavior in 45-nm Er3＋：yAG crystal is investigated. It is shown that by changing the signal field, the coherent field and the concentration of Er3＋ ions in the crystal, the absorption, dispersion, and group index of the weak probe field can be adjusted. Also, it is found that the probe absorption occurs in the presence of population inversion and probe amplification is obtained in the absence of population inversion.

Achieving low effluent No_3-N and TN concentrations in low influent chemical oxygen demand(CoD) to total Kjeldahl nitrogen(TKN) ratio without using external carbon source

Two mathematical models were used to optimize the performance of a full-scale biological nutrient removal(BNR) activated treatment plant, a plug-flow bioreactors operated in a 3-stage phoredox process configuration, anaerobic anoxic oxic(A2 /o). The ASM2 d implemented on the platform of WEST2011 software and the Bio Win activated sludge/anaerobic digestion(AS/AD) models were used in this study with the aim of consistently achieving the designed effluent criteria at a low operational cost. Four ASM2 d parameters(the reduction factor for denitrification(η No3, h), the maximum growth rate of heterotrophs( μ h), the rate constant for stored polyphosphates in PAos(q pp), and the hydrolysis rate constant(k h)) were adjusted. Whereas three Bio Win parameters(aerobic decay rate(b h), heterotrophic dissolved oxygen(Do) half saturation(K oA), and y P /acetic) were adjusted. Calibration of the two models was successful; both models have average relative deviations(ARD) less than 10% for all the output variables. low effluent concentrations of nitrate nitrogen(N-No3), total nitrogen(TN), and total phosphorus(TP) were achieved in a full-scale BNR treatment plant having low influent chemical oxygen demand(CoD) to total Kjeldahl nitrogen(TKN) ratio(CoD/TKN). The effluent total nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen concentrations were improved by 50% and energy consumption was reduced by approximately 25%, which was accomplished by converting the two-pass aerobic compartment of the plug-flow bioreactor to anoxic reactors and being operated in an alternating mode. Findings in this work are helpful in improving the operation of wastewater treatment plant while eliminating the cost of external carbon source and reducing energy consumption.

A laboratory study of the turbulence front initiated by the Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities was conducted by overturning a two-layer stratified flow in a tank. Dye was introduced to the upper layer and the concentration of the dye was determined using a video imaging method. The mass center of the heavier upper layer moved continuously to a lower elevation because of the intrusion of the heavier fluid into the lower layer and the lighter fluid into the upper layer. The downward movement of the mass center was accurately determined from the dye concentration profile. It is concluded that the initial advancement of the mass center follows a quadratic relation with time and the final advancement obeys a linear relation with time.

＜正＞There is a cyclical aperture at the certain part of fiberglass reinforced plastic compound pipeline with stainless steel pipe as liner, where it becomes the weakness of the conduit. In this paper the field of stress and strain of the aperture was investigated by using the non-liner finite element code MARC. The results of finite element analysis show there are concentrations of stress and strain in the layer of stainless steel at the part of the pipeline where the aperture exists. The method to solve these problems was also discussed in this paper.

Investigation on 3D fatigue crack propagation in surface-cracked specimens

In the present work the fatigue crack growth in AISI304 specimens is investigated experimentally. In 3D finite element analysis the virtual crack closure technique is applied to calculate distributions and variations of the stress intensity factor along the surface crack front. It is confirmed that the stress intensity factor along the surface crack front varies non-uniformly with crack growth. Crack growth rate is proportional to the stress intensity factor distribution in the 3D cracked specimen. The fatigue crack growth in surface cracked specimens can be described by the Forman model identified in conventional compact tension specimens. For crack growth in the free specimen surface the arc length seems more suitable to quantify crack progress. Geometry and loading configuration of the surface cracked specimen seem to not affect the fatigue crack growth substantially.

Effectof Ginsenoside Re on Cardiomyocyte Apoptosis and Expression of Bcl-2/Bax Gene after Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats

To observe the effectof ginsenoside Re on cardiomyocyte apoptosis and Bcl- 2 / Bax gene expression after ischemia (30 m in) and reperfusion (6 h) in rats and to elucidate the possible m echanism s of ginsenoside Re on inhibition of cardiom yocyte apoptosis,the ischem ia/ reperfusion heart m odel was established by ligating the left anterior descending branch of coronary artery in Wistar *** apoptotic cardiom yocytes were confirmed by transm ission electron m icroscopy and counted by in situ nick end labeling(TU NEl) method and lightm *** m RNA and protein expression of Bcl- 2 and Bax genes were studied by in situ hybridization and im munohis- tochemical *** optical density (oD) value of the positive fields of m RNA and protein expression was quantitatively exam ined by im age analysis *** results were as follows: (1) The apoptotic cardiomyocytes were found in ischemic fields in the ischem ia/ reperfusion group and weren't observed in the sham- operation group by transmission electron microscopy;(2 ) The num bers of the apoptotic cells were134.4 5± 4 5 .6 1/ field in the ischemia/ reperfusion group,and 90 .6 6± 19.2 2 / field in the ginsenoside Re- treated *** differences was significant between two groups(Pon of Bcl- 2 and Bax were increased significantly in the is- chemia/ reperfusion group and ginsenoside Re- treated group when compared with the sham - opera- tion *** was no significant difference in the gene expression of Bcl- 2 between the gin- senoside Re- treated group and ischemia/ reperfusion group(P>0 .0 5 ) ,but gene expression of Bax was decreased significantly in the ginsenoside Re- treated group as compared with the ischem ia/ reperfusion group(Phe ratio of Bcl- 2 / Bax was increased significantly in the ginseno- side Re- treated group when com pared with the ischem ia/ reperfusion group and sham- operation *** findings suggest that m yocardia

Clinical valuation of serum tumor supplied group of factors in diagnosis of canine cancer

This study is to evaluate the clinical value of serum tumor supplied group of factors (TSGF) in diagnosis of canine cancer. 145 dogs with malignant tumors,32 benign diseases,34 dogs with non-tumor diseases,and 6 healthy dogs. Biochemical colorimetric assay were used to detect the serum TSGF level. Blood samples were collected at the time of initial diagnostic evaluation,before each chemotherapy session,and at follow-up visits. The serum TSGF level in dogs with malignant tumors,benign diseases,non-tumor diseases and healthy dog were 67. 3 ± 22. 1 U/ml,57. 3 ± 7. 58 U/ml,60. 2 ± 14. 2 U/ml and 54. 6 ± 3. 21 U/ml,the first group was statistically significant higher than the latter (P lignant patients exceeded the upper limit of the normal reference range (61 U/ml). The samples were classified to groups according clinic stage. The TSGF level from malignant tumor groups were stage I 56. 8 ± 5. 93 U/ml. stage II 66. 7 ± 25. 7 U/ml,stage III 75. 6 ± 22. 7 U/ml and stage IV 73. 9 ± 29. 6 U/ml. Excluding stage I, the TSGF level of all stages are statistically significant higher than healthy group,respectively,the stage III was also statistically significant higher than stage I. Further follow-up study indicated that in entirely insect group,the TSGF level decreased after treatment and kept in low level. In the partly insect group,although the TSGF activity decreased in a short term after surgery,the TSGF level would increase again and kept in high level. From this fact we considered that TSGF level is expected to be a newly potential biomarker in screening neoplastic diseases in veterinary and a monitoring factor for predicting relapse.

Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Activities of Novel Water-soluble Metalloporphyrins

The synthesis, characterization, and biological activities of a series of metal porphyrins were described. The complexes 3a similar to 3e were prepared from the reaction of compound 2 with M(oAc)(2) in ChCl3, and the treatment of 3a similar to 3f with pyridine gave corresponding complexes 4a similar to 4f. These new compounds were identified by absorption spectroscopies, h-1 NMR and elemental analysis. The results of biological activity,testing revealed that 4a and 4c had stronger inhibiting action for Escherichia coli (CCTCC AB91115).
