Carbon fiber reinforced polytetrafluoroethylene (CF/PTFE) composites are known for their exceptional tribological performance when sliding against steel or cast iron in inert gas environments. Compared to experiments in humid air, about an order of magnitude lower wear rate and several times lower coefficient of friction have been reported for tests conducted in dry nitrogen and hydrogen. Moreover, trace moisture has been shown to affect the friction and wear significantly of this tribosystem, although a possible effect of oxygen cannot be ruled out due to uncertainties regarding the oxygen concentrations. While several studies have pointed out the environmental sensitivity of CF/PTFE, the understanding of the underlying mechanisms are very limited. The objective of this research is to investigate the individual and combined effect of oxygen and moisture on the tribological behavior of CF/PTFE sliding against steel. Additionally, this study aims to elucidate the underlying mechanisms that govern the environmental sensitivity of the system. Climate-controlled three-pin-on-disc experiments were conducted in nitrogen atmospheres at various concentrations of oxygen and moisture. The tribological results clearly demonstrate that both moisture and oxygen contribute to increased friction and wear. However, the adverse effect was much more pronounced for oxygen than moisture. A qualitative method was developed to estimate the tribofilm coverage on the CF/PTFE surface. Results showed strong correlation between high coverage of strongly adhered tribofilm and low wear rate. Moreover, a loosely adhered tribofilm was observed on top of the CF/PTFE surface in presence of moisture. FTIR analysis indicated that the loosely adhered tribofilm found in the moisture-enriched environment contained a significant amount of adsorbed water, which may explain the lower coefficient of friction in presence of moisture compared to oxygen. Obesity has been known to negatively modulate the life-span and immunosuppressive potential of mesenchymal stromal cells(MSC).However,it remains unclear what drives the compromised potency of obese *** this study,we examined the involvement of adiponectin,an adipose tissuederived hormone,in obesity-induced impaired therapeutic function of ***-induced obesity leads to a decrease in serum adiponectin,accompanied by impairment of survival and immunomodulatory effects of adipose-derived MSC(ADSC).Interestingly,priming with globular adiponectin(gAcrp)improved the immunomodulatory potential of obese *** effects were also observed in lean *** addition,gAcrp potentiated the therapeutic effectiveness of ADSC in a mouse model of DSS-induced ***,while obesity inhibited the glycolytic capacity of MSC,gAcrp treatment induced a metabolic shift toward glycolysis through activation of adiponectin receptor type 1/p38 MAPK/hypoxia inducible factor-1a *** findings suggest that activation of adiponectin signaling is a promising strategy for enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of MSC against immune-mediated disorders.

Multi-population particle swarm optimization algorithm for automatic design of steel frames

Steel structures are widely used;however,their traditional design method is a trial-and-error procedure which is neither efficient nor cost ***,a multi-population particle swarm optimization(MPPSO)algorithm is developed to optimize the weight of steel frames according to standard design *** are made to improve the algorithm performances including the constraint-based strategy,piecewise mean learning strategy and multi-population cooperative *** proposed method is tested against the representative frame taken from American standards and against other steel frames matching Chinese design *** related parameter influences on optimization results are *** the representative frame,MPPSO can achieve greater efficiency through reduction of the number of analyses by more than 65% and can obtain frame with the weight for at least 2.4%lighter.A similar trend can also be observed in cases subjected to Chinese design *** addition,a migration interval of 1 and the number of populations as 5 are recommended to obtain better MPPSO *** purpose of the study is to propose a method with high efficiency and robustness that is not confined to structural scales and design *** aims to provide a reference for automatic structural optimization design problems even with dimensional *** proposed method can be easily generalized to the optimization problem of other structural systems.

Four types of submicron Ag-coated Cu particles with different Ag contents were prepared as sintering paste fillers， and the Ag contents of the particles were measured to be 10， 20， 30， and 40 wt%. Four types of particles （in order of increasing Ag content: A10， A20， A30， and A40） were surface-modified with stearic acid， to suppress the Ag shell dewetting and improve sinterability. The surface-modified particles were mixed with a polyol-based solvent to fabricate a resin-free paste. Subsequently， the pastes were screen-printed onto a slide glass and sintered at 250 ℃ in a nitrogen atmosphere for 1–10 min to form an electrode. The electrical resistivity of the sintered film as a function of sintering time was measured using a four-point probe. All the four surface-modified Cu@Ag particles with different Ag contents exhibited decreased electrical resistivity. Particularly， the largest difference in values after and before the surface modification was observed for A40 with the highest Ag content; the electrical resistivities of the initial and surface-modified particles were 1.51×10-4and 6.67×10-5Ω·cm， respectively， after sintering for 10 min. The findings of this study confirmed that the surface modification using stearic acid effectively suppressed the dewetting of the Ag shell and improved the sinterability of the submicron Cu@Ag particles.

Lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)have drawn significant attention owing to their high theoretical discharge capacity and energy ***,the dissolution of long-chain polysulfides into the electrolyte during the charge and discharge process(“shuttle effect”)results in fast capacity fading and inferior electrochemical *** this study,Mn_(2)O_(3)with an ordered mesoporous structure(OM-Mn_(2)O_(3))was designed as a cathode host for LSBs via KIT-6 hard templating,to effectively inhibit the polysulfide shuttle ***-Mn_(2)O_(3)offers numerous pores to confine sulfur and tightly anchor the dissolved polysulfides through the combined effects of strong polar-polar interactions,polysulfides,and sulfur chain *** OM-Mn_(2)O_(3)/S composite electrode delivered a discharge capacity of 561 mAh g-1 after 250 cycles at 0.5 C owing to the excellent performance of OM-Mn_(2)O_(3).Furthermore,it retained a discharge capacity of 628mA h g-1 even at a rate of 2 C,which was significantly higher than that of a pristine sulfur electrode(206mA h g-1).These findings provide a prospective strategy for designing cathode materials for high-performance LSBs.

Incorporation of higher content Si anode material beyond 5 wt% to Li-ion batteries(LIBs)is challenging,owing to large volume change,swelling,and solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)instability ***,a strategy of diacetoxydimethylsilane(DAMS)additive-directed SEI stabilization is proposed for a stable operation of Si-0.33FeSi_(2)(named as Si-Fe)anode without graphite,which provides siloxane inorganics and organics enrichment that compensate insufficient passivation of fluoroethylene carbonate(FEC)additive and reduce a dependence on *** stable cycling performance of highly loaded(3.5 mA h cm^(-2))pure Si-Fe anode is achieved with 2 wt%DAMS combined with 9 wt%FEC additives under ambient pressure,yielding high capacity 1270 mA h g^(-1)at 0.5 C and significantly improved capacity retention of 81% after 100 cycles,whereas short circuit and rapid capacity fade occur with FEC only ***-directed robust SEI layer dramatically suppresses swelling and particles crossover through separator,and therefore prevents short circuit,demonstrating a possible operation of pure Si or Sidominant anodes in the next-generation high-energy-density and safe LIBs.
