Effect of Eu3+,Bi3+,and Li+ doping on luminescent property of GdNbO4

We investigated the emission properties of Eu3+-doped GdNbO4-based oxide phosphors,aiming at improving the Eu3+emission by codoping of Bi3+and Li+.Eu3+singly doped,Eu3+and Bi3+doubly doped,and Eu3+,Bi3+,and Li+triply doped GdNbO4were prepared using a high-temperature solid-state reaction method.The red-orange emissions from Eu3+in the singly doped samples are significantly improved by the codoping of Bi3+,mainly due to the energy transfer from Bi3+to Eu3+.The additional codoping of Li+is found to increase the Eu3+emission significantly.This improvement might be attributed to the increase in the photoluminescent quantum yield originating from larger grain sizes and better crystallinity.A detailed analysis of the X-ray diffraction pattern and the asymmetric ratio estimated from the photoluminescence spectra show that the local lattice environment around Eu3+in GdNbO4does not change significantly with the codoping of Bi3+and Li+.Our results indicate that Li+doping is a promising way to improve the emission properties of rare-earth ion-doped GdNbO4phosphors.

The insensitivity of semiconductors to visible and infrared light is a key constraint on the utilization of light energy in photocatalytic reactions.Constructing photocatalysts with full-spectrum absorption through surface engineering is an effective approach to fully harnessing light energy in semiconductor materials.Herein,a novel stable Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene/Cds heterojunction catalyst is obtained by in-situ epitaxial growth of two-dimensional(2D)Cds nanosheets on 2D MXene interface via a solvothermal method.The exceptional light absorption properties of MXene confer outstanding full-spectrum driven photocat-alytic hydrogen evolution capability upon the heterogeneous catalyst.The unique 2D/2D structure effectively mitigated the recombination of photogenerated carriers,enhancing the photocatalytic performance of the catalyst.Moreover,the composite catalyst exhibits a significantly higher surface temperature of 80.4℃under visible light irradiation at an intensity of 0.1 W/cm^(2),which is 1.84 times higher than that of Cds.Under irradiation of visible and near infrared light,the composite catalyst with photothermal ef-fect demonstrates a remarkable hydrogen evolution rate of 65.4 mmol g^(-1)h^(-1),which is 7.2 times higher than that of Cds catalyst.This study introduces a novel approach for constructing full-spectrum absorption catalysts and expands the application of the photothermal effect in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution research.

A Cu-10wt%Fe composite was prepared through hot-pressed sintering,and the material was subsequently solution treated.The hot-pressed sintered and solution treated materials were rolled and aged.The precipitation behavior and performance changes were systematically studied by using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.In contrast to the hot-pressed sintered specimen,the solution treatment significantly affects the thermal stability and properties of the Cu-10wt%Fe composite.The Cu-10wt%Fe composite was prepared after solid solution,cold rolling and aging at 773 K for 1 h,and it obtained excellent tensile strength of 494 MPa,uniform elongation of 16.3%,electrical conductivity of 51.1%IACs and softening temperature of 838 K.Mechanisms for the distinct difference in thermal stability and properties between hot-pressed sintered and solution treated specimens were analyzed.These findings provide a theoretical basis for designing high-performance Cu-based in-situ composites by post treatment.

The performance of a water jet propulsion system is related to the inlet duct,rotor,stator,and nozzle.Generally,the flow inlet design must fit the bottom line of the hull,and the design of the inlet duct is often limited by stern space.The entire section,from the rotor to the nozzle through the stator,must be designed based on system integration in that the individual performance of these three components will influence each other.Particularly,the section from the rotor to the nozzle significantly impacts the performance of a water jet propulsion system.This study focused on nozzle design and established referable analysis results to facilitate subsequent integrated studies on the design parameters regarding nozzle contour.Most existing studies concentrate on discussions on rotor design and the tip leakage flow of rotors or have replaced the existing complex computational domain with a simple flow field.However,research has yet to implement an integrated,optimal design of the section from the rotor to the nozzle.Given the above,our program conducted preliminary research on this system integration design issue,discussed the optimal nozzle for this section in-depth,and proposed design suggestions based on the findings.This program used an existing model as the design case.This study referred to the actual trial data as the design conditions for the proposed model.Unlike prior references’simple flow field form,this study added a jet ski geometry and free surface to the computational domain.After the linear hull shape was considered,the inflow in the inlet duct would be closer to the actual condition.Based on the numerical calculation result,this study recommends that the optimal nozzle outlet area should be 37%of the inlet area and that the nozzle contour should be linear.Furthermore,for the pump head,static pressure had a more significant impact than dynamic pressure.

Thermo-kinetic characteristics on stabilizing hetero-phase interface of metal matrix composites by crystal plasticity finite element method

Using dislocation-based constitutive modeling in three-dimension crystal plasticity finite element(3D CPFE)simulations,co-deformation and instability of hetero-phase interface in different material systems were herein studied for polycrystalline metal matrix composites(MMCs).Local stress and strain fields in two types of 3layer MMCs such as fcc/fcc Cu-Ag and fcc/bcc Cu-Nb have been predicted under simple compressive deformations.Accordingly,more severe strain-induced interface instability can be observed in the fcc/bcc systems than in the fcc/fcc systems upon refining to metallic nanolayered composites(MNCs).By detailed analysis of stress and strain localization,it has been demonstrated that the interface instability is always accompanied by high-stress concentration,i.e.,thermodynamic characteristics,or high strain prevention i.e.,kinetic characteristics,at the hetero-phase interface.It then follows that the thermodynamic driving forceG and the kinetic energy barrier Q during dislocation and shear banding can be adopted to classify the deformation modes,following the so-called thermo-kinetic correlation.Then by inserting a high density of high-energy interfaces into the Cu-Nb composites,such thermo-kinetic integration at the hetero-phase interface allows a successful establishment of MMCs with the high△G-high Q deformation mode,which ensures high hardening and uniform strain distri-bution,thus efficiently suppressing the shear band,stabilizing the hetero-phase interface,and obtaining an exceptional combination in strength and ductility.such hetero-phase interface chosen by a couple of thermodynamics and kinetics can be defined as breaking the thermo-kinetic correlation and has been proposed for artificially designing MNCs.

With continuous population and economic growth in the 21st century,plastic pollution is a major global issue.However,the health concern of microplastics/nanoplastics(MPs/NPs)decomposed from plastic wastes has drawn public attention only in the recent decade.This article summarizes recent works dedicated to understanding the impact of MPs/NPs on the liver-the largest digestive organ,which is one of the primary routes that MPs/NPs enter human bodies.The interrelated mechanisms including oxidative stress,hepatocyte energy re-distribution,cell death and autophagy,as well as immune responses and inflammation,were also featured.In addition,the disturbance of microbiome and gut-liver axis,and the association with clinical diseases such as metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease,steatohepatitis,liver fibrosis,and cirrhosis were briefly discussed.Finally,we discussed potential directions in regard to this trending topic,highlighted current challenges in research,and proposed possible solutions.

Dengue fever is considered the most prolific vector-borne disease in the world,with its transmission rate increasing more than eight times in the last two decades.While most cases present mild to moderate symptoms,5%of patients can develop severe disease.Although the mechanisms are yet not fully comprehended,immune-mediated activation leading to excessive cytokine expression is suggested as a cause of the two main findings in critical patients:increased vascular permeability that may shock and thrombocytopenia,and coagulopathy that can induce hemorrhage.The risk factors of severe disease include previous infection by a different serotype,specific genotypes associated with more efficient replication,certain genetic polymorphisms,and comorbidities such as diabetes,obesity,and cardiovascular disease.The World Health Organization recommends careful monitoring and prompt hospitalization of patients with warning signs or propensity for severe disease to reduce mortality.This review aims to update the diagnosis and management of patients with severe dengue in the intensive care unit.

BACKGROUND Acute carpal tunnel syndrome(ACTs)is commonly caused by repetitive strain,trauma,or inflammatory conditions.However,ACTs due to tophaceous gout is a clinical event that remains poorly understood and underreported.This rare manifestation necessitates prompt diagnosis and intervention to prevent irreversible complications.CAsE sUMMARy A 51-year-old man who had poorly controlled hyperuricemia presented with ACTs secondary to tophaceous gout.Because of rapid symptom progression symptoms and severe median nerve compression within 3 mo,the patient underwent emergency decompression surgery for both wrists at different time points.Postoperatively,he exhibited complete recovery of sensory and motor functions,with no recurrence at long-term follow-up.Favorable outcomes were achieved through immediate decompression surgery,anti-inflammatory medications,postoperative active and passive range-of-motion exercises,and intermittent wrist splinting.Prompt diagnosis and surgical intervention,when necessary,are crucial for preventing long-term complications and obtaining favorable outcomes in patients with ACTs.An optimal gout management strategy involving pharmacologic therapy and lifestyle modifications may help minimize ACTs recurrence and improve clinical outcomes.CONCLUsION Prompt surgical intervention and optimal gout management are crucial for preventing irreversible nerve damage and ACTs recurrence.

Progress in the studies of chirality in atomic nuclei at iThemba LABs is reviewed.New regions of chirality,around mass 80 and 190 have been discovered using the AFRODITE array,specifically in the nuclei^(74)As,^(78,80,82)Br,^(81)Kr,and^(193,194,198)Tl.Many phenomena have been observed,including multiple chiral bands in the same nucleus,the coexistence of octupole correlations and nuclear chirality,and the coexistence of pseudo spin and nuclear chirality.The best example of chiral degeneracy to date was found in ^(194)Tl.The level scheme of ^(106)Ag has been revisited and interpreted in terms of two-and four-quasiparticle bands.Investigations using the particle-rotor model have shown that the fingerprints of chirality in the two-quasiparticle system only can occur in an idealised model description.For systems with a higher number of quasiparticles,the calculations showed that nuclear chirality can persist.
