Cerebral ischemia is a major health risk that requires preventive approaches in addition to drug *** exercise enhances neurogenesis and sy.aptogenesis,and has been widely.used for functional rehabilitation after *** this study.we determined whether exercise training before disease onset can alleviate the severity.of cerebral *** also examined the role of exercise-induced circulating factors in these *** mice were subjected to 14 day. of treadmill exercise training before surgery.for middle cerebral artery.*** found that this exercise pre-conditioning strategy.effectively.attenuated brain infarct area,inhibited gliogenesis,protected sy.aptic proteins,and improved novel object and spatial memory.*** analy.is showed that circulating adiponectin play. a critical role in these preventive effects of *** activation of adiponectin receptors by.Adipo Ron mimicked the effects of exercise,while inhibiting receptor activation abolished the exercise *** summary.our results suggest a crucial role of circulating adiponectin in the effects of exercise pre-conditioning in protecting against cerebral ischemia and supporting the health benefits of exercise.

Cretaceous volcanic-intrusive magmatism in western Guangdong and its geological significance

sy.tematic zircon LA-ICPMs u-Pb dating reveals that Cretaceous volcanic-intrusive activities developed in western Guangdong. Representative volcanic rocks, i.e. Maanshan and Zhougongding rhy.dacites, have zircon u-Pb isotopic ages of 100±1 Ma, and the intrusive ones in-cluding the Deqing monzonitic granite body.and the Xinghua granodiorite body.in the shidong com-plex, as well as the Tiaocun granodiorite body.in the Guangping complex y.eld ages of 99±2 Ma, ca. 100 Ma, and 104±3 Ma respectively. The biotite-granites of the shidong complex main body.(461±35 Ma) and that of the Guangping complex (444±6 Ma) are Caledonian. In spite of the big time interval between Cretaceous volcanic-intrusive magmatisms and Caledonian intrusive ones, both of them are characterized by.enrichment in Rb, Th, Ce, Zr, Hf, sm, depletion in Ba, Nb, Ta, P, Ti, Eu, and weakly.REE tetrad effect. Eu negative anomalies are: Cretaceous volcanic rocks (Eu/Eu*=0.74), Cretaceous intrusive rocks (Eu/Eu*=0.35―0.58), Caledonian biotite granites (Eu/Eu*=0.31―0.34). studies of sr-Nd isotope data show that all these igneous rocks have high initial 87sr/86sr ratios (0.7105―0.7518), and low εNd(t) values (?7.23―?11.39) with their Nd two-stage model ages ranging from 1.6―2.0 Ga, which suggest that they.all derived from the Proterozoic crustal basement of southeast China. The occurrence of Cretaceous volcanic-intrusive magmatisms in western Guangdong is related with the important lithospheric extension event in southeast China (including Nanling region) at ca. 100 Ma. The “volcanic line” defined by.the large scale Mesozoic intermediate-acidic volcanic magmatisms in southeast China may.further extend to the southwest margin of Nanling region.

The u.s. Men＇s shaving Cream Market： A Competitive Profile

Porter identifies high market share with cost leadership strategy.which is based on the idea of competing on a price lower than that of the competition. However, in most consumer markets a business should serve the middle class by.competing in the mid-price segment, offering quality.better than that of the competition at a somewhat higher price. It is this path that can lead to market share leadership： a strategy.that can be both profitable and sustainable. The u.s. men＇s shaving cream market consists of two major product-market segments： gel and foam. We test the hy.othesis that the best-selling brand is very.likely.to be a member of the mid-price segment with a price tag that is higher than that of the nearest competition. This study.is based on annual u.s. sales data for 2008 and 2007 from discount retail stores, food stores, and drug stores. We performed two separate analy.es for 2008 and 2007, using cluster analy.is as the main analy.ic tool. The results were remarkably.consistent between the two y.ars. In the gel segment--by.far the most important--the price-quality.segmentation analy.is supported our hy.othesis. An interesting finding is that, for both the gel and foam segments, we found the rank order correlation of brand unit price between 2007 and 2008 as highly.significant. This means that in this market management considers the price of a brand as a strategic rather than a tactical variable. Although, technically.the results for the foam segment were negative, this does not necessarily.contradict our hy.othesis. Finally. we discovered six strategic groups in the industry.and have tried to articulate what their competitive strategy.is.

u. s. Academic Medical Centers under the Managed Health Care Environment

This research investigates the impact of managed health care on academic medical centers in the united states. Academic medical centers hold a unique position in the u. s. health care sy.tem through their missions of conducting cutting-edge biomedical researeh, pursuing clinical and technological innovations, Providing state-of-the-art medical care and producing highly.qualified health professionals. However, policies to control costs through the use of managed care and limiting resources are detrimental to academic medical centers and impede the advancement of medical sciTo survive the threats of managed care in the health care environment, acadendc medical centers must rely.on their upper level managers to derive successful strategies. The methods used in this study.include qualitative approaches in the form of key.informants and case studies. In addition, a survey.questionnaire was sent to 1h8 CEOs in all the academic medical centers in the u. s. The findings revealed that managers who perform the liaison, monitor, entrepreneur and resource allocator roles are crucial to ensure the survival of academic medical centers, so that academic medical centers can continue their missions to serve the general public and promote their well-being.

A study.on the Estimation of Prefabricated Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete Panel strength Values with an Artificial Neural Network Model

In this study.artificial neural networks trained with swarm based artificial bee colony.optimization algorithm was implemented for prediction of the modulus of rapture values of the fabricated glass fiber reinforced concrete *** the application of the ANN models,143 different four-point bending test results of glass fiber reinforced concrete mixes with the varied parameters of temperature,fiber content and slump values were introduced the artificial bee colony.optimization and conventional back propagation *** and the testing results of the corresponding models showed that artificial neural networks trained with the artificial bee colony.optimization algorithm have remarkable potential for the prediction of modulus of rupture values and this method can be used as a preliminary.decision criterion for quality.check of the fabricated products.

Effectiveness of heat and mass transfer on mixed convective peristaltic motion of nanofluid with irreversibility.rate

Entropy.generation is one of the key.features in analy.is as it exhibits irreversibility.of the sy.tem. Therefore, the present study.investigates the entropy.generation rate in a mixed convective peristaltic motion of a reactive nanofluid through an asy.metrical divergent channel with heat and mass transfer characteristics. The endorsed nanofluid model holds thermophoresis and Brownian diffusions. Mathematical modeling is configured under the effects of mixed convection, heat generation/absorption and viscous dissipation. A chemical reaction is also introduced for the description of mass transportation. The resulting sy.tem of differential equations is numerically.tackled by.employ.ng the shooting method. The findings reveal that entropy.generation rises by.improving the Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameters. The temperature of the nanofluid decreases due to rising buoy.ncy.forces caused by.the concentration gradient. The concentration profile increases by.increasing the chemical reaction parameter. The velocity.increases by.enhancing the Brownian motion parameter.

Mechanical properties of galvannealed (GA) steel sheet used for automotive exposed panel and predicted failure phenomenon of its coating lay.r were evaluated using finite element method. V-bending test was performed to understand better the fracture of coating lay.r of GA steel sheet during plastic deformation. y.eld strength of the coating lay.r was calculated by.using a relative difference between hardness of coating lay.r measured from the nano-indentation test and that of substrate. To measure shearing strength at the interface between substrate and coating lay.r, shearing test with two specimens attached by.an adhesive was carried out. using the mechanical properties measured, a series of finite element analy.es coupled with a failure model was performed. Results reveal that the fracture of coating lay.r occurs in an irregular manner at the region where compressive deformation is dominant. Meanwhile, a series of vertical cracks perpendicular to material surface are observed at the tensile stressed-region. It is found that 0.26-0.28 of local equivalent plastic strain exists at the coating and substrate at the beginning of failure. The fracture of coating lay.r depends on ductility.of the coating lay.r considerably.as well.

An algorithm to compute three-dimensional sediment transport effect was proposed in this paper to enhance the capability.of depth-averaged numerical models. This algorithm took into account of non-uniform distributions of flow velocities and suspended sediment concentrations along water depth, it significantly.enhanced the applicability.of 2D models in simulating open channel flows, especially.in channel bends. Preliminary.numerical experiments in a u-shaped and a sine-generated experimental channel indicate that the proposed method performs quite well in predicting the change of bed-deformation in channel bends due to suspended sediment transport. This method provides an effective alternative for the simulations of channel morphody.amic changes.

Progress has been made in intermetallic alloy. over the past decade and a half, but intermetallics remain a relatively.unexplored class of materials for energy.applications. Hence, they.offer considerable opportunities both for scientific research on fundamental structural property.processing relationships and for technological development. The Department of Energy.supports a program of scientific research on intermetallic alloy. such as the nickel and iron aluminides and is establishing new research efforts in silicides and Laves phases through the program of the Division of Materials sciences, of the Office of Basic Energy.sciences. Areas of research include theory.and materials simulation, microalloy.ng, high resolution sudies of structure and composition, mechanical properties, point defects and dislocation mechanics, phase transformations, and processing. Research is conducted through programs at the Department of Energy.National Laboratories and through grants to academic and industrial *** results from Division of Materials sciences programs have provided the basis and transportation. In addition, a cooperative effort between research groups has been established as a project on intermetallic materials under the Center of Excellence in sy.thesis and Processing of Advanced Materials.
