Inorganic anions such as phosphates and carbonates are essential in the natural system and it is important for the detec-tion of such species.In this work,the fluorescence sensing capacity of Zr(IV)framework with an amino-functional group,namely UiO-66-NH_(2),towards specific inorganic anions was investigated in aqueous media.The results revealed that the fluorescence emission intensity of UiO-66-NH2 could be strongly enhanced by phosphate and carbonate anions including HPO_(4)^(2-),H_(2)PO_(4)^(-),PO_(4)^(3-),P_(2)O_(7)^(4-),HCO_(3)^(-)and CO_(3)^(2-),implying its sensing capacity towards phosphate and carbonate anions.Furthermore,fluorescence titration experiments exhibit that the emission intensity enhancement ratio depends linearly on the concentration of anions,suggesting the possibility of quantitative detection of these anions.Further studies suggest that the sensing of UiO-66-NH,towards HPO_(4)^(2-)/PO_(4)^(3-)/P_(2)O_(4)^(-)/HCO_(3)^(-)/CO_(2)-could be ascribed to the collapse of the framework,while that for H_(2)PO_(4)-could be attributed to the adsorption of H,PO4-by UiO-66-NH2 with hydrogen bonding interactions between H,PO4-and the amino group of UiO-66-NH_(2) supported by the different fluorescence response of UiO-66 and UiO-66-NH,towards the anions.

Motor nerves and sensory nerves conduct signals in different directions and function in different ways.In the surgical treatment of peripheral nerve injuries,the best prognosis is obtained by keeping the motor and sensory nerves separated and repairing the nerves using the suture method.However,the clinical consequences of connections between sensory and motor nerves currently remain unknown.In this study,we analyzed the anatomical structure of the rat femoral nerve,and observed the motor and sensory branches of the femoral nerve in the quadriceps femoris.After ligation of the nerves,the proximal end of the sensory nerve was connected with the distal end of the motor nerve,followed by observation of the changes in the newly-formed regenerated nerve fibers.Acetylcholinesterase staining was used to distinguish between the myelinated and unmyelinated motor and sensory nerves.Denervated muscle and newly formed nerves were compared in terms of morphology,electrophysiology and histochemistry.At 8 weeks after connection,no motor nerve fibers were observed on either side of the nerve conduit and the number of nerve fibers increased at the proximal end.The proportion of newly-formed motor and sensory fibers was different on both sides of the conduit.The area occupied by autonomic nerves in the proximal regenerative nerve was limited,but no distinct myelin sheath was visible in the distal nerve.These results confirm that sensory and motor nerves cannot be effectively connected.Moreover,the change of target organ at the distal end affects the type of nerves at the proximal end.

We propose a new framework for image-based three-dimensional(3D) model retrieval. We first model the query image as a Euclidean point. Then we model all projected views of a 3D model as a symmetric positive definite(SPD) matrix, which is a point on a Riemannian manifold. Thus, the image-based 3D model retrieval is reduced to a problem of Euclid-to-Riemann metric learning. To solve this heterogeneous matching problem, we map the Euclidean space and SPD Riemannian manifold to the same high-dimensional Hilbert space, thus shrinking the great gap between them. Finally, we design an optimization algorithm to learn a metric in this Hilbert space using a kernel trick. Any new image descriptors, such as the features from deep learning, can be easily embedded in our framework. Experimental results show the advantages of our approach over the state-of-the-art methods for image-based 3D model retrieval.

The Permian Taiyuan and Shanxi formations exposed in Shandong Province,eastern North China,contain abundant spores and pollen.In this study,a total of 42 genera and 146 species of spores and pollen from these Permian formations,native to northern China,are identified and related to the three epochs of the Permian Period(Cisuralian,Guadalupian,and Lopingian Epochs)as two assemblages:Assemblage I—the Laevigatosporites-Granulatisporites assemblage,inferred as the Cisuralian(~298.9-272.9 Ma);and,Assemblage II—the Gulisporites-Sinulatisporites assemblage,inferred as the Guadalupian(~272.9-259.1 Ma).Assemblage I represents growing ferns,whereas Assemblage II represents gymnosperms.The assemblage division and analysis indicated that the palaeoclimate of the study area during Early-Middle Permian time was dominated by warm and humid conditions,and later in the Middle Permian changed into moderately dry conditions.

In this work,a new pyrylium derivatization-assisted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS)method was developed for metabolite profiling of the glutathione anabolic pathway(GAP)in cancer tissues and cells.The pyrylium salt of 6,7-dimethoxy-3-methyl isochromenylium tetrafluoroborate(DMMIC)was used to label the amino group of metabolites,and a reductant of dithiothreitol(DTT)was employed to stabilize the thiol group.By combining DMMIC derivatization with LC-MS,it was feasible to quantify the 13 main metabolites on the GAP in complex biological samples,which had good linearity(R^(2)=0.99810.9999),precision(interday precision of 1.6%e19.0%and intraday precision of 1.4%e19.8%)and accuracy(83.4%-115.7%).Moreover,the recovery assessments in tissues(82.5%e107.3%)and in cells(98.1%e118.9%)with GSH-^(13)C2,^(15)N,and Cys-^(15)N demonstrated the reliability of the method in detecting tissues and cells.Following a methodological evaluation,the method was applied successfully to investigate difference in the GAP between the carcinoma and para-carcinoma tissues of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)and the effect of p-hydroxycinnamaldehyde(CMSP)on the GAP in KYSE150 esophageal cancer cells.The results demonstrate that the developed method provides a promising new tool to elucidate the roles of GAP in physiological and pathological processes,which can contribute to research on drugs and diseases.

Anode materials of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)endowed with high-rate performance and fast charging capability are crucial for future energy storage systems.Here,Mo_(8.7)Nb_(6.1)O_(x)@NCs(nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes,NCs)egg-nest structure synthesized by an in-situ solvothermal method is reported.The Mo_(8.7)Nb_(6.1)O_(x)@NCs egg-nest exhibits high embedding potential,high pseudocapacitance contribution rate(87.5%),and low charge transfer resistance.The electrochemical results show that Mo_(8.7)Nb_(6.1)O_(x)@NCs demonstrates excellent rate performance(reversible capacity of 196.8 mAh·Ag^(-1)at 10 A·Ag^(-1),and full charging only takes 1.1 min)and excellent cycle stability(reversible capacity of 513 mAh·Ag^(-1)at 0.5 A·Ag^(-1)combined with a capacity loss of only 5.4%after 100 cycles),outperforming the state-of-the-art literature.The full cell is assembled with Mo_(8.7)Nb_(6.1)O_(x)@NCs as the anode and LiFeP04 as the cathode,which can provide a remarkably high energy density of 731.9 Wh·kg^(-1),indicating its excellent prospect for practical applications.

To enhance durability and adhesion of superhydrophobic surface,an integrated superhydrophobic calcium myristate(Ca[CH3(CH2)12COO]2)coating with excellent corrosion resistance was fabricated on AZ31 magnesium(Mg)alloy via one-step electrodeposition process.Field-emission scanning electron microscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy as well as X-ray diff raction were employed to investigate the surface characteristics(morphology,composition and structure)of the coatings.Hydrophobicity of the coating was evaluated by means of contact and sliding angles.Additionally,potentiodynamic polarization,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and hydrogen evolution tests were conducted to characterize the corrosion resistance.Results indicated that the coating exhibited super-hydrophobicity with large static water contact angle(CA)and small sliding angle of 155.2°±1.5°and 6.0°±0.5°,respectively,owing to spherical rough structure and low surface energy(7.01 mJ m^(-2)).The average hydrogen evolution rate(HERa)and corrosion current density(icorr)of the coated sample were 5.3μL cm^(-2)h^(-1) and 5.60×10^(-9)A cm^(-2),about one and four orders of magnitude lower than that of AZ31 substrate,respectively,implying the excellent corrosion resistance.The CA of the coating remained 155.6°±0.9°after soaking for 13 days,showing the super-hydrophobicity and stability of the coating.Simultaneously,the large critical load(5004 mN)for the coating designated the outstanding adhesion to the substrate by nano-scratch test.

BACKGROUND Supernumerary phantom limb(SPL)caused by spinal cord injury(SCI)has previously been reported in several studies.However,the mechanisms and management of SPL in SCI patients are still not fully understood.Herein,we report a rare case of SPL in a patient with incomplete SCI.CASE SUMMARY A 46-year-old man complained of four hands 7 d after SCI.He was diagnosed with SPL complicated with actual limb neuropathic pain.Following a period of treatment with neurotrophic agents and Chinese traditional and analgesic medications,SPL symptoms and actual limb pain did not improve.However,his symptoms gradually lessened after combined treatment with high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(rTMS),a promising neuromodulation technique,over the M1 cortex and visual feedback.After 7 wk of this treatment,SPL disappeared completely and actual limb pain was significantly relieved.CONCLUSION Cerebral plasticity changes may be a mechanism underlying the occurrence of non-painful SPL in SCI patients,and high-frequency rTMS applied to the M1 cortex could be a promising treatment method for SPL.
