Nested case-control study of multiple serological indexes and Brighton pediatric early warming score in predicting death of children with sepsis

BACKGROUND Currently, it is difficult to predict the complications of children at the early stage of sepsis. Brighton pediatric early warning score(PEWS) is a disease risk assessment system that is simple and easy to operate, which has good sensitivity and specificity in disease recognition among children. Because detection indicators vary widely in children, a single indicator is difficult to assess the posttreatment status of children with *** To investigate the relationship between serological markers, Brighton PEWS, and death in children with sepsis after *** A total of 205 children diagnosed with sepsis at our hospital were enrolled. The baseline data, serum scores, and PEWS scores were recorded. In the nested casecontrol study, children who died during the study period were included in an observation group. According to the matching principle, the children who were not dead in the same cohort were included in a control group. The influencing factors of death in children with sepsis after treatment and the value of each evaluation index in predicting the prognosis of children were *** A total of 96 children were enrolled in the study, including 48 each in the observation group and the control group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that antibacterial treatments within 1 h(P = 0.017), shock(P = 0.044),multiple organ dysfunction syndrome(MODS)(P = 0.027), serum procalcitonin(PCT)(P = 0.047), serum albumin(ALB)(P = 0.024), and PEWS(P = 0.012) were independent risk factors for the death of children with sepsis. The area under the curve of the combination of ALB, PCT, and PEWS to predict the death in children with sepsis was the highest(0.908).CONCLUSION Antibacterial treatments within 1 h, shock, MODS, PCT, ALB, and PEWS are independent risk factors for the death of children with sepsis. The predictive accuracy of the combination of PCT, ALB, and PEWS for the prognosis of children with sepsis is the best.

Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) technology has been widely considered as an alternative to complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) due to QCA's inherent *** interesting QCA-based logic circuits with smaller feature size,higher operating frequency,and lower power consumption than CMOS have been ***,QCA is limited in its sequential circuit design with high performance *** on a brief introduction of QCA and dual-edge triggered (DET) flip-flop,we propose two original QCA-based D and JK DET flip-flops,offering the same data throughput of corresponding single-edge triggered (SET) flip-flops at half the clock pulse *** logic functionality of the two proposed flip-flops is verified with the QCADesigner *** the proposed QCA-based DET flip-flops show higher performance than their SET counterparts in terms of data ***,compared with a previous DET D flip-flop,the number of cells,covered area,and time delay of the proposed DET D flip-flop are reduced by 20.5%,23.5%,and 25%,*** using a lower clock pulse frequency,the proposed DET flip-flops are promising for constructing QCA sequential circuits and systems with high performance.

Designer chromosomes are artificially synthesized ***,these chromosomes have numerous applications ranging from medical research to the development of ***,some chromosome fragments can interfere with the chemical synthesis of designer chromosomes and eventually limit the widespread use of this *** address this issue,this study aimed to develop an interpretable machine learning framework to predict and quantify the synthesis difficulties of designer chromosomes in *** the use of this framework,six key sequence features leading to synthesis difficulties were identified,and an e Xtreme Gradient Boosting model was established to integrate these *** predictive model achieved high-quality performance with an AUC of 0.895 in cross-validation and an AUC of 0.885 on an independent test *** on these results,the synthesis difficulty index(S-index)was proposed as a means of scoring and interpreting synthesis difficulties of chromosomes from prokaryotes to *** findings of this study emphasize the significant variability in synthesis difficulties between chromosomes and demonstrate the potential of the proposed model to predict and mitigate these difficulties through the optimization of the synthesis process and genome rewriting.

By mapping a fixed polarity Reed-Muller (RM) expression into an onset table and studying the properties of the onset table,an algorithm is proposed to obtain a compact multi-level single-output mixed-polarity RM function by searching for and extracting the common variables using the onset ***,by employing the multiplexer model,the algorithm is extended to optimize multi-level multi-output mixed-polarity RM *** proposed algorithm is implemented in C language and tested using some MCNC *** results show that the proposed algorithm can obtain a more compact RM form than that under fixed *** with published results,the proposed algorithm makes a significant speed improvement,with a small increase in the number of literals.

Currently, the application of synthetic biology to artificially manipulate and utilize organisms for the synthesis of desired products such as nanomaterials with excellent fluorescence properties is attracting considerable attention. However, it is still difficult to obtain designed products efficiently due to insufficient knowledge of the biosynthetic mechanisms. The thioredoxin(TRX) and glutathione(GSH) pathways are generally conserved thiol-reductase systems that protect organisms from oxidative stress and are involved in selenium(Se) metabolism. In this study, we revealed the pivotal role of cytoplasmic TRX pathway in regulating the metabolism of Na_(2)SeO_(3) during the live-cell synthesis of cadmium-selenium quantum dots(Cd Se QDs) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae by regulating the expression level of genes related to TRX pathway and measuring the intracellular content of selenocysteine(Se Cys). The determination of Se Cys metabolism in yeast with GSH pathway-related genes deleted demonstrated that the TRX pathway played a more significant role in Se Cys metabolism than GSH pathway. A 6.4-fold enhancement in the synthetic yield of Cd Se QDs was achieved through the overexpression of TRX pathway-related genes,improvement of synthetic procedure, and supplementation of GSH based on the understanding of biological *** the mechanism of CdSe QDs live-cell synthesis facilitates the precise manipulation of biological processes for the synthesis of inorganic nanomaterials.

Analysis and interpretation on the concrete quality of shaft lining by elastic wave technique

The quality problem of the concrete body and backwall grouting of shaft lining must be taken into consideration during the engineering construction of the shaft. Detection and evaluation are needed to determine the parameters such as the location and depth of drilling. The record of elastic wave can be gained through laying the surveying lines of the ring and ver- tical direction in the shaft lining by the elastic wave method. And specifically, through analyzing the different parameters of seismic attribute such as the velocity of high frequency reflection wave, amplitude and frequency, the abnormal range on the wall or under the wall can be forecasted. The concrete quality of shallow layer in the shaft lining can be evaluated through the velocity of surfer wave. Using the evaluating technique of comprehensive frequency and the phase feature of waveform, the basic features such as inner construction, wall back filling and failure depth of shaft lining can be interpreted from qualitatively to half quantitatively, and the interpreting section can be drawn. The results show that the detection effect for the shaft quality is significant by elastic wave technique, and the delineation of abnormal areas is accurate. Its guidance function is better for pro- duction.

AIM:To study the effects of synthetic nonmethylated CpG-containing oligodeoxynucleotides(CpG-ODNs) ,either alone or combined with recombinant Hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg) polypeptide,on the phenotype,function,and intracellular signaling pathways of monocyte-derived dendritic cells(DCs) in patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB) .METHODS:Peripheral blood monocytes isolated from CHB patients and healthy volunteers were induced to be dendritic cells by recombinant human granulocyte-monocyte colony stimulating factor and *** DCs were then treated with CpG-ODNs,CpGODNs/HBsAg,or tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-αfor 18 *** expression of surface molecules including HLA-DR,CD86,and CD1a in DCs were detected by flow cytometry,and the expression of signal transducers and activators of transcription(STAT1,3,4,5,6) and suppressors of cell signaling(SOCS1,3) were determined by Western blotting *** addition,the capacity of DCs to stimulate allogeneic T lymphocytes and the amount of IL-12p70 released from DCs were ***:In the DCs derived from patients with CHB,treatment with TNF-α,CpG-ODNs,or CpG-ODNs/HBsAg,as compared to the vector control,significantly increased the expression of HLA-DR,stimulated the release of IL-12p70,and enhanced the capacity of DCs to stimulate allogenic T *** expressions of STAT1/4/6 and SOCS1/3,but not STAT3/5,were upregulated by TNF-α,CpG-ODNs,and CpG-ODNs/*** addition,the expression of CD1a was upregulated only in the presence of both CpG-ODNs and ***:The treatment with CpG-ODNs,either alone or combined with HBsAg,has a remarkable stimulatory effect on the impaired phenotype and function of DCs in CHB,possibly by regulating the expression of STAT1,4,6 and SOCS1,3.
