Spatial Distribution and Release Flux of Carbon and Nitrogen Components in Glacial Watersheds of Eastern Tibetan Plateau

The carbon cycle stands as a cornerstone among the Earth's material cycles， carrying profound implications for global climate dynamics and humanity's sustenance and advancement. Additionally， nitrogen， as a vital nutrient element， plays a pivotal role in biogeochemical processes， exerting significant influence on the ecological environment within watersheds. In this study， an analysis of the carbon （C） and nitrogen （N） components in the river water of 12 alpine basins on the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau （TP） reveals that the average dissolved organic carbon （DOC） concentration in the river water is 0.76±0.67 mg/L， indicating a lower level compared to the global river average organic carbon content. Specifically， the average DOC concentrations were 0.42±0.22 mg/L and 1.56±0.68 mg/L in the glacial and non-glacial basins， respectively. The average dissolved inorganic carbon （DIC） concentration in the eastern TP is 27.04±20.19 mg/L， with the lowest DIC observed at Dagu Glacier and the highest at Daxia River. Furthermore， the average dissolved total carbon （DTC） concentration in glacier river water was 18.87±12.65 mg/L， contrasting with 48.23±21.07 mg/L in non-glacial basins. The mean concentration of total nitrogen （TN） in the eastern TP averaged 0.97±0.54 mg/L， with the glacial basin registering 1.01±0.47 mg/L and the non-glacial basin at 0.89±0.70 mg/L. Evaluating the release fluxes of carbon and nitrogen across 12 river basins revealed a range of DTC emission fluxes from 0.32 to 31.02 × 109g C/a， with inorganic carbon comprising 71.0% to 99.5%. Consequently， the carbon emission flux for seven glacier basins totaled 15.91 × 109g C/a， while for the five non-glacial river basins， it reached 87.37× 109g C/a. The total TN release fluxes across 12 small river basins amounted to 2.46 × 109g N/a， with 0.84 × 109g N/a released in glacial basins and 1.62 × 109g N/a in the non-glacial basin. Coronaviruses are widely transmissible between humans and animals, causing diseases of varying severity. Porcine enteric alphacoronavirus(PEAV) is a newly-discovered pathogenic porcine enteric coronavirus in recent years, which causes watery diarrhea in newborn piglets. The host inflammatory responses to PEAV and its metabolic regulation mechanisms remain unclear, and no antiviral studies have been reported. Therefore, we investigated the pathogenic mechanism and antiviral drugs of PEAV. The transcriptomic analysis of PEAV-infected host cells revealed that PEAV could upregulate lipid metabolism pathways. In lipid metabolism, steady-state energy processes, which can be mediated by lipid droplets(LDs), are the main functions of organelles. LDs are also important in viral infection and inflammation. In infected cells, PEAV increased LD accumulation, upregulated NF-κB signaling, promoted the production of the inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-8, and induced cell death. Inhibiting LD accumulation with a DGAT-1 inhibitor significantly inhibited PEAV replication, downregulated the NF-κB signaling pathway, reduced the production of IL-1β and IL-8, and inhibited cell death. The NF-κB signaling pathway inhibitor BAY11-7082 significantly inhibited LD accumulation and PEAV replication. Metformin hydrochloride also exerted anti-PEAV effects and significantly inhibited LD accumulation, downregulated the NF-κB signaling pathway, reduced the production of IL-1β and IL-8, and inhibited cell death. LD accumulation in the lipid metabolism pathway therefore plays an important role in the replication and pathogenesis of PEAV, and metformin hydrochloride inhibits LD accumulation and the inflammatory response to exert anti-PEAV activity and reducing pathological injury. These findings contribute new targets for developing treatments for PEAV infections.

The Immense Impact of Reverse Edges on Large Hierarchical Networks

Hierarchical networks are frequently encountered in animal groups,gene networks,and artificial engineering systems such as multiple robots,unmanned vehicle systems,smart grids,wind farm networks,and so *** structure of a large directed hierarchical network is often strongly influenced by reverse edges from lower-to higher-level nodes,such as lagging birds’howl in a flock or the opinions of lowerlevel individuals feeding back to higher-level ones in a social *** study reveals that,for most large-scale real hierarchical networks,the majority of the reverse edges do not affect the synchronization process of the entire network;the synchronization process is influenced only by a small part of these reverse edges along specific *** surprisingly,a single effective reverse edge can slow down the synchronization of a huge hierarchical network by over 60%.The effect of such edges depends not on the network size but only on the average in-degree of the involved *** overwhelming majority of active reverse edges turn out to have some kind of“bunching”effect on the information flows of hierarchical networks,which slows down synchronization *** finding refines the current understanding of the role of reverse edges in many natural,social,and engineering hierarchical networks,which might be beneficial for precisely tuning the synchronization rhythms of these *** study also proposes an effective way to attack a hierarchical network by adding a malicious reverse edge to it and provides some guidance for protecting a network by screening out the specific small proportion of vulnerable nodes.

Pomegranate juice combined with inulin promote their mutual metabolic transformation by gut microbiota and prevent HFD-induced metabolic disorder in rats

High-fat diet (HFD) promotes the imbalance of gut microbiota， contributing to the development of metabolic disorders. Pomegranate juice (PJ) and inulin， as dietary polyphenol and dietary fiber respectively， have been reported to ameliorate diet-induced gut microbiota dysbiosis and metabolic disorders. However， the combined effect of PJ and inulin on HFD-induced metabolic disorders has not been elucidated. In current study， we found that the combination of PJ and inulin prevent HFD-induced obesity， dyslipidemia， and gut microbiota dysbiosis. Moreover， the fecal levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) produced by inulin were increased after inulin combined with PJ. The levels of pomegranate polyphenol metabolites produced by PJ were also increased after PJ combined with inulin， especially pharmacokinetic analysis showed that the presence of inulin enhance the absorption level of urolithin A. Fecal metabolomic analysis found that PJ combined with inulin alter the metabolic status compared with PJ. It was also showed that the levels of SCFAs and pomegranate polyphenol metabolites among groups were correlated with gut microbiota and metabolic disorders indicators. Our results suggested that PJ combined with inulin prevent HFD-induced metabolic disorders， which may be attributed to the promotion of mutual metabolic transformation and absorption of PJ and inulin by gut microbiota.

Sulfonyl fluoride compounds, as the key components for sulfur(VI) fluoride exchange(SuFEx) reaction, are characterized by their high chemical stability yet can be selectively activated under specific conditions to enable efficient chemical bonding and connections. This unique capability has garnered significant interest across various domains. Many strategies have been developed for the synthesis of sulfonyl fluoride compounds. This review focuses on the latest advancements in synthesizing these compounds using the radical sulfur dioxide insertion and fluorination(RSIF) strategy, underscoring the versatility and efficacy of the RSIF strategy in constructing sulfonyl fluoride compounds.
