Acetylacetone effectively controlled the secondary metabolites of Microcystis aeruginosa under simulated sunlight irradiation

Inactivation of cyanobacterial cells and simultaneous control of secondary metabolites is of significant necessity for the treatment of cyanobacteria-laden water.Acetylacetone(AcAc)has been reported a specific algicide to inactivate Microcystis aeruginosa(M.aeruginosa)and an effective light activator to degrade pollutants.This study systematically investigated the photodegradation ability of AcAc under xenon(Xe)irradiation on the secondary metabolites of M.aeruginosa,mainly algal organic matter(AOM),especially toxic microcystin-LR(MC-LR).Results showed that AcAc outperformed H_(2)O_(2)in destructing the protein-like substances,humic acid-like matters,aromatic proteins and fulvic-like substances of AOM.For MC-LR(250μg/L),0.05 mmol/L AcAc attained the same degradation efficiency(87.0%)as 0.1mmol/L H_(2)O_(2).The degradation mechanism of Xe/AcAc might involve photo-induced energy/electron transfer and formation of carbon center radicals.Alkaline conditions(pH>9.0)were detrimental to the photoactivity of AcAc,corresponding to the observed degradation rate constant(k_(1)value)of MC-LR drastically decreasing to 0.0013 min^(-1)as solution pH exceeded 9.0.The PO_(4)^(3-)and HCO_(3)^(-)ions had obvious inhibition effects,whereas NO_(3)^(-)slightly improved k_(1)value from 0.0277 min^(-1)to 0.0321 min^(-1).The presence of AOM did not significantly inhibit MC-LR degradation in Xe/AcAc system.In addition,the biological toxicity of MC-LR was greatly reduced after photoreaction.These results demonstrated that AcAc was an alternative algicidal agent to effectively inactivate algal cells and simultaneously control the secondary metabolites after cell lysis.Nevertheless,the concentration and irradiation conditions should be further optimized in practical application.

While somatosensory over-reactivity is a common feature of autism spectrum disorders such as fragile X syndrome(FXS),the thalamic mechanisms underlying this remain unclear.Here,we found that the developmental elimination of synapses formed between the principal nucleus of V(PrV)and the ventral posterior medial nucleus(VPm)of the somatosensory system was delayed in fragile X mental retardation 1 gene knockout(Fmr1 KO)mice,while the developmental strengthening of these synapses was disrupted.Immunohistochemistry showed excessive VGluT2 puncta in mutants at P12–13,but not at P7–8 or P15–16,confirming a delay in somatic pruning of PrV-VPm synapses.Impaired synaptic function was associated with a reduction in the frequency of quantal AMPA events,as well as developmental deficits in presynaptic vesicle size and density.Our results uncovered the developmental impairment of thalamic relay synapses in Fmr1 KO mice and suggest that a thalamic contribution to the somatosensory over-reactivity in FXS should be considered.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the pharmacodynamic effects and potential mechanisms of Shuangling extract against ulcerative colitis(UC). METHODS: The bioinformatics method was used to predict the active ingredients and action targets of Shuangling extract against UC in mice. And the biological experiments such as serum biochemical indexes and histopathological staining were used to verify the pharmacological effect and mechanism of Shuangling extract against UC in mice. RESULTS: The Shuangling extract reduced the levels of seruminterleukin-1β(IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-N), interleukin-6(IL-6) and other inflammatory factors in UC mice and inhibited the inflammatory response. AKT Serine/threonine Kinase 1 and IL-6 may be the main targets of the anti-UC action of Shuangling extract, and the TNF signaling pathway, Forkhead box O signaling pathway and T-cell receptor signaling pathway may be the main signaling pathways. CONCLUSION: The Shuangling extract could inhibit the inflammatory response induced by UC and regulate intestinal immune function through multiple targets and multiple channels, which provided a new option and theoretical basis for anti-UC.

Dissolution behavior of Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions into CaO-MgO-SiO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3)-TiO_(2)system ladle slags

To investigate the dissolution behaviors of Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions in CaO-5wt%MgO-SiO_(2)-30wt%Al_(2)O_(3)-TiO_(2)system ladle slags,confocal scanning laser microscopy was conducted on the slags with different TiO_(2)contents(0-10wt%),and scanning electron microscopy was performed to study the interfacial reaction between Al_(2)O_(3)and this slag system.The results disclose that the dissolution of Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions does not result in the formation of new phases at the boundary between the slag and the inclusions.In TiO_(2)-bearing and TiO_(2)-free ladle slags,there is no difference in the dissolution mechanism of Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions at steelmaking temperatures.Boundary layer diffusion is found as the controlling step of the dissolution of Al_(2)O_(3),and the diffusion coefficient is in the range of 4.18×10^(-10)to 2.18×10^(-9)m^(2)/s at 1450-1500℃.Compared with the solubility of Al_(2)O_(3)in the slags,slag viscosity and temperature play a more profound role in the dissolution of Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions.A lower viscosity and a lower melting point of the slags are beneficial for the dissolution.Suitable addition of TiO_(2)(e.g.,5wt%)in ladle slags can enhance the dissolution of Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions because of the low viscosity and melting point of the slags,while excessive addition of TiO_(2)(e.g.,10wt%)shows the opposite trend.

Distributed Stochastic Scheduling of Massive Backup Batteries in Cellular Networks for Operational Reserve and Frequency Support Ancillary Services

Base station(BS)backup batteries(BSBBs),with their dispatchable capacity,are potential demand-side resources for future power systems.To enhance the power supply reliability and post-contingency frequency security of power systems,we propose a two-stage stochastic unit commitment(UC)model incorporating operational reserve and post-contingency frequency support provisions from massive BSBBs in cellular networks,in which the minimum backup energy demand is considered to ensure BS power supply reliability.The energy,operational reserve,and frequency support ancillary services are co-optimized to handle the power balance and post-contingency frequency security in both forecasted and stochastic variable renewable energy(VRE)scenarios.Furthermore,we propose a dedicated and scalable distributed optimization framework to enable autonomous optimizations for both dispatching center(DC)and BSBBs.The BS model parameters are stored and processed locally,while only the values of BS decision variables are required to upload to DC under the proposed distributed optimization framework,which safeguards BS privacy effectively.Case studies on a modified IEEE 14-bus system demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in promoting VRE accommodation,ensuring post-contingency frequency security,enhancing operational economics,and fully utilizing BSBBs'energy and power capacity.Besides,the proposed distributed optimization framework has been validated to converge to a feasible solution with near-optimal performance within limited iterations.Additionally,numerical results on the Guangdong 500 kV provincial power system in China verify the scalability and practicality of the proposed distributed optimization framework.

Optimal scheduling of a township integrated-energy system using the adjustable heat-electricity ratio model

With the expansion and implementation of rural revitalization strategies,there is a constant need for new energy sources for the construction of new townships.Consequently,integrated energy systems with the interconnection and interaction of multiple energy sources are developing rapidly.Biomass energy,a renewable green energy source with low pollution and wide distribution,has significant application potential in integrated energy systems.Considering the application of biomass energy in townships,this study established an integrated biomass energy system and proposed a model to optimize its operation.Lowest economic cost and highest clean energy utilization rate were considered as the objective functions.In addition,a plan was suggested to adjust the heat-electricity ratio based on the characteristics of the combined heat and power of the biomass.Finally,a simulation analysis conducted for a town in China was discussed,demonstrating that the construction of a township integrated-energy system and the use of biomass can significantly reduce operating costs and improve the energy utilization rate.Moreover,by adjusting the heat-electricity ratio,the economic cost was further reduced by 6.70%,whereas the clean energy utilization rate was increased by 5.14%.

The biosecurity hazards caused by pathogenic fungus have been widely concerned.Given the long-term coexistence of eukaryotic pathogens and quorum sensing bacteria in different habitats in environments,we hypothesized that they have social interactions via signal molecules.In this work,we firstly discovered the well-known bacterial signal molecules play an adverse role in the cell morphology and metabolism in a model pathogen Trichosporon asahii.N-Tetradecanoyl-L-homoserine lactone(C14-HSL)was discovered to increase pathogen hazards of T.asahii,which limited mycelium by 52%,but enhanced cell aggregation by 93%.Higher fluorescence intensity of tryptophan(59%)and aromatic protein(2-fold)contents after the treatment of C14-HSL,indicating that aromatic proteins helped aggregate Trichosporon and showed hydrophobicity.Transcriptome analysis revealed that C14-HSL upregulated the shikimate pathway(above1-fold)located in downstream of tricarboxylic acid cycle,which contributed to the synthesis of more aromatic proteins and the formation of larger flocs.The limited mycelial growth of T.asahii attributed to the up-regulated expressions of cell cycle process.The fungal transboundary response to bacterial C14-HSL was controlled by signal transduction pathways.This study provides new insights into the co-evolution of bacterial and pathogenic fungi in microecosystems.

The relationship mechanism between the material pore structures and cathodic iodine chemistry plays a vital role in efficient Zn-I_(2) batteries,but is unclear,retarding further advances.This work innovatively indicates a great contribution of∼2.5nm pore structure of nanocarbons to efficient iodine adsorption,rapid I^(−)↔I_(2) conversion,and polyiodide inhibition,via scrupulously designing catalysts with controllable pore sizes systematically.The I_(2)-loading within the designed nitrogen-doped nanocarbons can reach up to as high as 60.8 wt%.The batteries based on the cathode deliver impressive performances with a large capacity of 178.8 mAh/g and long-term cycling stability more than 4000 h at 5.0 C.Notably,these is no polyiodide such as I_(3)−and I_(5)−detected during the charge-discharge processes from comprehensive electrochemical cyclic voltammetry,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and Raman technique.This work provides a novel knowledge-guided concept for rational pore design,promising better Zn-I_(2) batteries,which is also hoped to benefit other advanced energy technologies,such as Li-S,Li-ion,and Al-I_(2) batteries.

To investigate the effects of drinking the soaking of Malus domeri(Bois)Chev.leaves on gut microbiota and metabolites of long-living elderly individuals in Hezhou city,Guangxi,China.It has been reported that longevity is closely related to metabolism and the gut microbiota.The 16S rRNA sequencing and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS)were used to analysis fecal samples and explore the factors affecting longevity in the region.Interestingly,we discovered,that elderly individuals who had been drinking the soaking of M.domeri(Bois)Chev.leaves for a long time exhibited higher diversity of the gut microbiota than without drinking the soaking,notably.The proportions of Ruminococcaceae and Prevotella were decreased in those who did not drink this soaking.In addition,a total of 106 metabolites were characterized,and the people of long-lived people(>90 years old)and elderly people(<90 years old)who drinking soaking of M.domeri(Bois)Chev.leaves significantly altered the gut microbiota and upregulated levels of haplopine,farnesol,genipic acid,momordicinin,2-hydroxyestrone,hydroxyphenyllactic acid,caffeic acid,sophoraflavanone B,and soyasaponin I.We preliminarily determined that M.domeri(Bois)Chev.leaves consumption may be an important factor affecting longevity in this area.
