Compared to conventional electrocatalytic water splitting,electrocatalytic ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR)along with hydrogen production is considered a more energy-efficient strategy.Herein,we prepared a type of novel quaternary alloy catalyst(PtAuCuNi@NF)that exhibits excellent activity for EOR(0.215 V at 10 mA cm^(-2))and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)(7 mV at 10 mA cm^(-2)).Experimental results demonstrated that both Cu and Ni modulated the electronic environment around Pt and Au.The electron-rich active center facilitates the rapid adsorption and dissociation of reactants and intermediates for both EOR and HER.Impressively,in the ethanol-assisted overall water splitting(E-OWS),a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2)was achieved at 0.28 V.Moreover,an advanced acid-base self-powered system(A-Bsps)that can achieve a self-powered voltage of 0.59 V was assembled.Accordingly,the self-driven hydrogen production with zero external power supply was realized by integrating A-Bsps with the E-OWS equipment.The interesting results can provide a feasible strategy for designing and developing advanced nanoalloy-based materials for clean energy integration and use in various fields.

Background:Clarithromycin exerts an immunomodulatory role in several human diseases.However,whether this effect improves the prognosis in patients with sepsis remains controversial,and higher levels of clinical evidence are urgently needed.To the best of our knowledge,no meta-analysis to date has reported the clinical efficacy and safety of clarithromycin in sepsis.Methods:A comprehensive literature search of PubMed,EMBASE,and the Cochrane Library was conducted up to December 31,2022.Only randomized controlled trials comparing the clinical efficacy and safety of clarithromycin with controls among patients with sepsis or septic shock were included.Data were pooled by applying a fixed-effects model and a relative risk(RR)estimate with 95%confidence intervals(CIs)using Review Manager(version 5.3;Cochrane Collaboration,Copenhagen,Denmark).Results:Three randomized controlled trials involving a total of 910 patients were included.The pooled results confirmed that clarithromycin had no beneficial effect on progression to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome(RR:1.51;95%CI:1.02-2.25;P=0.04;I^(2)=0%),28-day mortality(RR:1.09;95%CI:0.87-1.36;P=0.46;I^(2)=0%),and 90-day mortality(RR:0.86;95%CI:0.71-1.03;P=0.10;I^(2)=81%)in patients with sepsis or septic shock.Moreover,there was no difference in other serious adverse events between patients who received clarithromycin and those in the control group(RR:1.02;95%CI:0.87-1.19;P=0.83;I^(2)=18%).Conclusion:Our meta-analysis did not reveal an improvement to short-term outcomes in patients with sepsis treated with clarithromycin.However,administration of clarithromycin did not increase the risk of adverse events.

Glycine functionalized activated carbon derived from navel orange peel for enhancement recovery of Gd(Ⅲ)

Glycine functionalized activated carbon adsorption material(NOPAC-GLY-X)was successfully prepared by one-step thermal decomposition using agricultural waste navel orange peel as a precursor.Through batch adsorption experiments,it is found that the adsorption performance of Gd(Ⅲ)on activated carbon can be significantly enhanced by glycine modification.The adsorption isotherms of the NOPACs conform to the Langmuir isotherm model,and the maximum adsorption capacity of the activated carbon sample NOPAC-Gly-60 is approximately 48.5 mg/g.The Gd(Ⅲ)adsorption capacity of navel orange peel activated carbon can be doubled after glycine modification,and the adsorption efficiency of gadolinium can reach99%at pH=7.The physicochemical properties of the prepared adsorbents were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),elemental analysis(EA),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The characterization test shows that the specific surface area of the sample increases from 1121 to 1523 m^(2)/g,and the ratio of(N+O)/C increases from 10.8%to 30.0%by the glycine modification.After five cycles of adsorption-desorption,the adsorption capacity can still be maintained at 88%of the initial capacity.NOPAC-GLY-60 has excellent adsorption selectivity for Gd(Ⅲ).With the obvious advantages of simple synthesis steps and low cost,the activated carbon modification method adopted in this study has great application value in the field of rare earth adsorption and recovery.

The chemical recycling of polyolefin presents a considerable challenge,especially as upcycling methods struggle with the reality that plastic wastes typically consist of mixtures of polyethylene(PE),polystyrene(PS),and polypropylene(PP).We report a catalytic aerobic oxidative approach for polyolefins upcycling with the corresponding carboxylic acids as the product.This method encompasses three key innovations.First,it operates under atmospheric pressure and mild conditions,using O_(2) or air as the oxidant.Second,it is compatible with high-density polyethylene,low-density polyethylene,PS,PP,and their blends.Third,it uses an economical and recoverable metal catalyst.It has been demonstrated that this approach can efficiently degrade mixed wastes of plastic bags,bottles,masks,and foam boxes.

To the Editor:Major depressive disorder(MDD)is a mood disorder characterized by complex patterns of emotional,cognitive,and behavioral symptomology and deficits in daily functioning.Genital symptoms,including a reduction in libido and menstrual disturbances,have been considered to be a classic symptom of MDD for many decades.Previous evidence has reached a broad consensus that the incidence of genital symptoms is higher in patients with MDD than in the general population.A systematic review and meta-analysis found a bidirectional association between MDD and genital symptoms,with patients with MDD showing a 50–70%increased risk of developing genital symptoms,while individuals with genital symptoms had a 130–210%increased risk of developing MDD.^([1])As previously reported,50–70%of people with MDD experience sexual dysfunction.^([2])To date,few studies have focused on the comparison of clinical features between patients with MDD with and without genital symptoms,and the longitudinal prognosis.

Hepatitis E virus(HEV)infection can cause severe complications and high mortality,particularly in pregnant women,organ transplant recipients,individuals with pre-existing liver disease and immunosuppressed patients.However,there are still unmet needs for treating chronic HEV infections.Herein,we screened a best-in-class drug repurposing library consisting of 262 drugs/compounds.Upon screening,we identified vidofludimus calcium and pyrazofurin as novel anti-HEV entities.Vidofludimus calcium is the next-generation dihydroorotate dehydrogenase(DHODH)inhibitor in the phase 3 pipeline to treat autoimmune diseases or SARS-CoV-2 infection.Pyrazofurin selectively targets uridine monophosphate synthetase(UMPS).Their anti-HEV effects were further investigated in a range of cell culture models and human liver organoids models with wild type HEV strains and ribavirin treatment failure-associated HEV strains.Encouragingly,both drugs exhibited a sizeable therapeutic window against HEV.For instance,the IC50 value of vidofludimus calcium is 4.6–7.6-fold lower than the current therapeutic doses in patients.Mechanistically,their anti-HEV mode of action depends on the blockage of pyrimidine synthesis.Notably,two drugs robustly inhibited ribavirin treatment failure-associated HEV mutants(Y1320H,G1634R).Their combination with IFN-αresulted in synergistic antiviral activity.In conclusion,we identified vidofludimus calcium and pyrazofurin as potent candidates for the treatment of HEV infections.Based on their antiviral potency,and also the favorable safety profile identified in clinical studies,our study supports the initiation of clinical studies to repurpose these drugs for treating chronic hepatitis E.

The plant signaling pathway that regulates pathogen-associated molecular pattern(PAMP)-triggered immunity(PTI)involves mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)cascades that comprise sequential activation of several protein kinases and the ensuing phosphorylation of MAPKs,which activate transcription factors(TFs)to promote downstream defense responses.To identify plant TFs that regulate MAPKs,we investigated TF-defective mutants of Arabidopsis thaliana and identified MYB44 as an essential constituent of the PTI pathway.MYB44 confers resistance against the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas syringae by cooperating with MPK3 and MPK6.Under PAMP treatment,MYB44 binds to the promoters of MPK3 and MPK6 to activate their expression,leading to phosphorylation of MPK3 and MPK6 proteins.In turn,phosphorylated MPK3 and MPK6 phosphorylate MYB44 in a functionally redundant manner,thus enabling MYB44 to activate MPK3 and MPK6 expression and further activate downstream defense responses.Activation of defense responses has also been attributed to activation of EIN2 transcription by MYB44,which has previously been shown to affect PAMP recognition and PTI development.AtMYB44 thus functions as an integral component of the PTI pathway by connecting transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation of the MPK3/6 cascade.

本文将人工智能变量以生产任务方式引入Balassa-Samuelson模型(巴萨模型),理论分析人工智能发展对实际汇率的影响。研究发现:可贸易品部门智能化程度提高将导致实际汇率升值,不可贸易品部门智能化程度提高将导致实际汇率贬值。本文以工业机器人安装存量表示智能化程度,利用国际机器人联盟、Peen World Table 10.0和世界发展指标等数据库构建1993—2019年72个国家和地区的平衡面板数据,实证检验发现:可贸易品部门智能化程度提高导致实际汇率升值,且结论在稳健性检验和内生性处理后依然成立;不可贸易品部门智能化程度提高导致实际汇率贬值的结论在统计上不稳健。拓展分析发现:第一,人工智能发展对实际汇率的影响存在滞后效应;第二,分行业而言,制造业智能化程度提高导致实际汇率升值,建筑业智能化程度提高导致实际汇率贬值;第三,OECD成员国可贸易品部门智能化程度提高导致实际汇率升值,不可贸易品部门智能化程度提高导致实际汇率贬值;而非OECD成员国智能化程度改变对实际汇率影响不显著。

Eukaryotic aquaporins share the characteristic of functional multiplicity in transporting distinct substrates and regulating various processes,but the underlying molecular basis for this is largely unknown.Here,we report that the wheat(Triticum aestivum)aquaporin TaPIP2;10 undergoes phosphorylation to promote photosynthesis and productivity and to confer innate immunity against pathogens and a generalist aphid pest.In response to elevated atmospheric CO_(2)concentrations,TaPIP2;10 is phosphorylated at the serine residue S280 and thereafter transports CO_(2)into wheat cells,resulting in enhanced photosynthesis and increased grain yield.In response to apoplastic H_(2)O_(2) induced by pathogen or insect attacks,TaPIP2;10 is phosphorylated at S121 and this phosphorylated form transports H_(2)O_(2) into the cytoplasm,where H_(2)O_(2)intensifies host defenses,restricting further attacks.Wheat resistance and grain yield could be simultaneously increased by TaPIP2;10 overexpression or by expressing a TaPIP2;10 phosphomimic with aspartic acid substitutions at S121 and S280,thereby improving both crop productivity and immunity.
