Digital Extraction of Altitudinal Belt Spectra in the West Kunlun Mountains Using SPOT-VGT NDVI and SRTM DEM

In this paper, a digital identification method for the extraction of altitudinal belt spectra of montane natural belts is presented. Acquiring the sequential spectra of digital altitudinal belts in mountains at an acceptable temporal frequency and over a large area requires extensive time and work if traditional methods of field investigation are to be used. Such being the case, often the altitudinal belts of a whole mountain or the belts at a regional scale are represented by single points. However, single points obviously cannot accurately reflect the spatial variety of altitudinal belts. In this context, a digital method was developed to extract the spectra of altitudinal belts from remote sensing data and SRTM DEM in the *** Kunlun Mountains. By means of the 4km resolution SPOT-4 vegetation 10-day composite NDVI, the horizontal distribution of altitudinal belts were extracted through supervised classification, with a total classification accuracy of 72.23%. Then, a way of twice-scan was used to realize the automatic transition of horizontal maps to vertical belts. The classification results of remote-sensing data could thus be transformed automatically to sequential spectra of digital altitudinal belts. The upper and lower lines of the altitudinal belts were then extracted by vertical scanning of the belts. Relationships between the altitudinal belts based on the montane natural zones concerning vegetation types and the geomorphological altitudinal belts discussed. As a tentative method, were also the digital extraction method presented here is effective at digitally identifying altitudinal belts, and could be helpful in rapid information extraction over large-scale areas.

The fibroblast growth factor receptor(FGFR) family plays important roles in regulating cell growth, proliferation, survival,differentiation and angiogenesis. Deregulation of the FGF/FGFR signaling pathway has been associated with multiple development syndromes and cancers, and thus therapeutic strategies targeting FGFs and FGFR in human cancer are currently being ***, few studies on the FGF/FGFR pathway have been conducted in sarcoma, which has a poor outcome with traditional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Hence, in the present review, we provide an overview of the role of the FGF/FGFR pathway signal in sarcoma and FGFR inhibitors, which might be new targets for the treatment of sarcomas according to recent research.

Proliferation and phenotypic changes of stromal cells in response to varying estrogen/androgen levels in castrated rats

It is known that human benign prostatic hyperplasia might arise from an estrogen/androgen （E/T） imbalance. We studied the response of castrated rat prostate to different ratios of circulating E/T. The castrated male Wistar rats were randomly injected with E/T at different ratios for 4 weeks. The prostates of E/T （1：100） group showed a distinct prostatic hyperplasia response by prostatic index, hematoxylin and eosin staining, and quantitative immunohistochemical analysis of a-smooth muscle actin （SMA）. In this group, cells positive for Vimentin, non-muscle myosin heavy chain （NMMHC） and proliferating cell nuclear antigen （PCNA） increased in the stroma and epithelium. Furthermore, the mRNA levels of smooth muscle myosin heavy chain （SMMHC） and NMMHC increased. So E/T at a ratio of 1：100 can induce a stromal hyperplastic response in the prostate of castrated rats. The main change observed was an increase of smooth muscle cells, whereas some epithelial changes were also seen in the rat prostates.

Antagonism of estrogen-mediated cell proliferation by raloxifene in prevention of ageing-related prostatic hyperplasia

Estrogen has important roles in the initiation and development of benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH）. Regulators of the estrogen receptor （ER） are tissue- and cell-specific. We evaluated the effect of estrogen antagonist, raloxifene （Ral）, on the prevention and treatment of BPH by investigating its effect on the proliferation of two different prostate cell lines： a stromal cell line, WPMY-1, and a benign prostatic hyperplasia epithelial cell line, BPH-1. We additionally evaluated its effect on prostatic hyperplasia induced by estrogen and androgen in a rat model. The effect of Ral on the prevention of prostatic hyperplasia was analyzed by haematoxylin and eosin staining and quantitative immunohistochemistry （IHC） for proliferating cell nuclear antigen and α-smooth muscle actin. In vitro and in vivo, tamoxifen （Tam）, another anti-estrogen drug, and finasteride （Fin）, a drug for the clinical treatment of BPH, served as efficacy controls. The in vitro data showed that neither Ral nor Tam alone affected the proliferation of WPMY-1 and BPH-1, but both antagonized the effect of oestradiol in promoting the proliferation of the two cells. Results from the IHC staining of the rat prostates indicated that, similar to Tam and Fin, Ral inhibited the proliferation of stromal cells in vivo. Interestingly, in contrast to Tam, both Ral and Fin inhibited the proliferation of epithelial cells. Furthemore, Ral treatment much strongly decreased the number of prostatic acini and the surrounding layers of smooth muscle cells than Fin （P 〈 0.05）. Our data showed for the first time that Ral may have a role in the response of the rat prostate to selective ER modulators.

Micro defects formation and dynamic response analysis of steel plate of quasi-cracking area subjected to explosive load

As the protective component,steel plate had attracted extensive attention because of frequently threats of explosive *** this paper,the evolution of microstructure and the mechanism of damage in the quasi-cracking area of steel plate subjected to explosive load were discussed and the relationships between micro defects and dynamic mechanical response were *** the explosion experiment,five observation points were selected equidistant from the quasi-cracking area of the section of the steel plate along the thickness direction,and the characteristics of micro defects at the observation points were analyzed by optical microscope(OM),scanning electron microscope(SEM) and electron backscattered diffraction(EBSD).The observation result shows that many slip bands(SBs) appeared,and the grain orientation changed obviously in the steel plate,the two were the main damage types of micro *** addition,cracks,peeling pits,grooves and other lager micro defects were appeared in the lower area of the *** stress parameters of the observation points were obtained through an effective numerical *** mechanism of damage generation and crack propagation in the quasicracking area were clarified by comparing the specific impulse of each observation point with the corresponding micro *** result shows that the generation and expansion of micro defects are related to the stress area(*** upper compression area,the neutral plane area,and the lower tension area).The micro defects gather and expand at the grain boundary,and will become macroscopic damage under the continuous action of tensile ***,the micro defects at the midpoint of the section of the steel plate in the direction away from the explosion center(*** horizontal direction) were also *** was found that the specific impulse at these positions were much smaller than that in the thickness direction,the micro defects were only SBs and a few micro cracks,and the those decrea

Numerical study on the effective thermal conductivity and thermal tortuosity of porous media with different morphologies

Effective thermal conductivity and thermal tortuosity are crucial parameters for evaluating the effectiveness of heat conduction within porous *** direct pore-scale numerical simulation method is applied to investigate the heat conduction processes inside porous structures with different *** thermal conduction performances of idealized porous structures are directly compared with real foams across a wide range of *** foam structures are reconstructed using X-ray computed tomography and image processing techniques,while Kelvin and Weaire-Phelan structures are generated through periodic unit cell *** detailed temperature fields inside the porous structures are determined by solving the heat conduction equation at the pore *** results present that the equivalent thermal conductivity of Kelvin and Weaire-Phelan structures is similar to and greater than that of the real foam structure with the same strut *** thermal tortuosity of real foam structure is relatively larger and the heat conduction path becomes straighter by adopting the anisotropic *** thermal tortuosity of the fluid channels for Kelvin,Weaire-Phelan,and real foam structures is close to *** thermal conductivity of porous structures with heat transfer fluid increases as the thermal conductivity ratio of fluid to solid becomes larger.A small porosity of porous media leads to a larger equivalent thermal conductivity due to the dominant contribution of porous skeleton in the heat conduction *** derived from parallel and series models,as well as the Maxwell-Eucken models,provide decent predictions of effective thermal conductivity,with an average error of less than 8%in the entire range of thermal conductivity ratio.
