Adaptation of the CUGH global health competency framework in the Chinese context:a mixed-methods study

Background In 2014,the Consortium of Universities for Global Health(CUGH)developed a global health competency framework and called for its *** China’s increasing engagement in global health over the past decade,there is a need for a tailored competency framework to enhance the capacity of its *** study aimed to localize the CUGH global health framework within the Chinese context,offering guidance to public health professionals in China to bolster their capabilities for international *** Employing a modified Delphi consultation approach,this study adapted the CUGH global health competency framework through three consultation rounds and a panel discussion.A questionnaire employing a five-point Likert scale was developed to gather opinions from 37 experts on the significance and feasibility of each competency within the Chinese *** information,judgment criteria,and familiarity with each competency were collected to assess experts’authority ***,a priority survey was administered to 51 experts to identify key competencies and provide recommendations for bolstering the capabilities of China’s public health *** analysis was performed using Microsoft *** The adapted framework comprises 10 domains and 37 competencies including:*** Burden of Disease;***-economic,Environmental and Behavioral Determinants of Health;*** Impact of Globalization on Population Health,Health Systems,and Healthcare;*** Global health initiatives and efforts;***,Health Equity and Social Justice;***,Political Awareness and Policy Promotion;*** Competencies and Professional Practice;*** strengthening;***,Partnering and Communication;*** *** priority survey underscored Domain 9,10,and 4 as the foremost concern for Chinese public health professionals,urging active learning,critical thinking,open communication,experiential learning,and cas

Elimination of Schistosomiasis Japonica in China:From the One Health Perspective

Schistosomiasis japonica is caused by infection of Schistosoma japonicum(***),which infected 12 million residents in the 1950s in China and was a heavy burden to public health and socioeconomic development(1).After more than seven decades of effort to control schistosomiasis,the prevalence of schistosomiasis has been reduced dramatically in *** the 450 endemic counties(including city and district-level jurisdictions),74.89%(337/450),21.87%(98/450),and 3.33%(15/450)have achieved the criteria of elimination,transmission interruption,and transmission control of schistosomiasis,*** the overall endemic status of schistosomiasis remains at a low level,the strategies shifted from snail control to morbidity control and then to an integrated strategy that emphasized infection source ***,being a vector-borne and zoonotic disease,schistosomiasis japonica is intricately linked to multiple factors including biological,natural,and socioeconomic risk *** order to eliminate schistosomiasis earlier and more thoroughly,the One Health approach should be adopted,which focuses on solving complex health problems from a macro-level perspective of interactions among human,animal,and environment,emphasizing multi-institution,interdisciplinary,and cross-regional collaboration and communication.

Marking the end of the five-year programme initiated by the Chinese Government to lift more than 70 million people out of poverty,the year 2020 is a *** alleviation has moved strongly forward in China and the major health indicators are now better than the average of all middle-and high-income ***,the dual burden of infectious and chronic diseases remains a challenge with respect to achieving the health target in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for sustainable development goals(SDGs).In 2015,about 44%of the poor population in China were impoverished by illness but already in 2018,multi-sectoral actions delivered by the Health-related Poverty Alleviation programme had reduced the number almost by *** the past three years 15 million poor people(98%of the poor population)with infectious and chronic diseases had been treated and taken care of thanks to financial support through multiple health insurance schemes and other governmental *** article discusses the lessons learnt with regard to health-related poverty alleviation in China with special reference to those still remaining impoverished by *** of the achievements reached and provision of basic needs to those still disadvantaged and in poor health will require a major improvement of accessibility to,and affordability of,health *** next step towards enhanced productivity and better living conditions will involve upgrading of the capacity of health professionals in the poor regions,promotion of coherent efforts in health-related poverty alleviation and rural revitalization *** an additional measure,data monitoring and research on health poverty alleviation should be strengthened as they are essential to generate the evidence and knowledge needed to support the move in the direction envisioned by the SDGs,and the new Healthy China 2030 programme.

The epidemic of the Ebola virus infection in West Africa in 2014 has become a worldwide *** to the nature of the disease,which has an extremely high mortality potential,this outbreak has received much attention from researchers and public health *** article entitled“Need of surveillance response systems to combat Ebola outbreaks and other emerging infectious diseases in African countries,”published in the journal Infectious Diseases of Poverty in August 2014,concluded that a good surveillance system to monitor disease transmission dynamics is essential and needs to be implemented to combat the *** regarding the limitation of the passive surveillance system have been raised by Professor Viroj Wiwanitkit,who emphasizes the need for an active disease detection system such as mass screening in this letter to *** different function between passive and active surveillance system in combating the disease outbreak has been agreed upon by Ernest Tambo et *** have also been discussions between Wiwanitkit and Tambo et *** the following issues:(i)the extreme resource limitations in outbreak areas,(ii)new technology to improve the available *** recommendations echoed in this letter to editor by Wiwanitkit,who outlined the research priorities on the development of appropriate combined disease monitoring systems and good policy to allocate available tools and technology in resource-limited settings for epidemic *** journal’s editor,Professor xiao-nong zhou,has therefore collated all parts of these discussions between authors in this letter to editor paper,in order to further promote research on a combined active and passive system to combat the present extending Ebola outbreak.
