Infectious diseases of poverty,a collective term coined for infections known to be particularly prevalent amongst poor populations,is increasingly used for neglected tropical diseases(NTDs)with special transmission routes,such as depending on vectors and/or intermediate *** journal Infectious Diseases of Poverty(IDP)is launched to explore new avenues in research to better understand the relationship between infectious diseases and poverty,and to contribute to priority settings for plans to control *** the“One health-One world”concept,IDP will publish original and empirical work based on analyses of disease burdens,their distribution and research needs in this *** new journal will not only bring out research articles but also scoping reviews and highlights of trans-disciplinary work undertaken to combat the infectious diseases of poverty,wherever in the world they exist.

In 2017,China achieved the target of zero indigenous malaria case for the first time,and has been certified as malaria free by World Health Organization in *** further summarize the historical achievements and technical experiences of the elimination program,a project on the Roadmap Analysis and Verification for Malaria Elimination in China was carried *** of the project were compiled and published as the Atlas of Malaria Transmission in China(The Atlas).The Atlas using modern digital information technologies,has been supported by various data from 24 malaria endemic provinces of China since 1950,to assess the changes in malaria epidemic patterns from 1950 to 2019 at national and provincial *** Atlas is designed as two volumes,including a total of 1850 thematic maps and more than 130 charts,consisting of introductory maps,thematic maps of malaria epidemic and control at national and provincial *** objectively and directly shows the epidemic history,evolution process,and great achievements of the national malaria control and elimination program in *** Atlas has important reference value for summing up historical experience in the national malaria elimination program of China,and malaria control and elimination in other endemic countries in the world.

January 30,2022 will mark the third World Neglected Tropical Diseases(NTD)*** slogan for this year World NTD Day is“A New Day in the fight against NTDs”(https://***/).While human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS),tuberculosis,and malaria were regarded as the three major infectious diseases and have received greater treatment and research funding,NTDs have almost disappeared in the global health policy agenda to gain recognition in 2015 with the Sustainable Development Goals(SDG target 3.3).

In the Memorandum of Understanding on Health Technology Cooperation issued in Beijing in 1978,the Ministry of Health(MOH)of China and the World Health Organization(WHO)agreed to create a series of WHO Collaborating Centres(WHOCC).The Institute of Parasitic Diseases at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences(the predecessor of the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases[NIPD]at China CDC)was officially designated as a“WHO Collaborating Centre for Malaria,Schistosomiasis,and Filariasis”in 1980 based in Shanghai(1).Since then,the WHOCC for Malaria,Schistosomiasis,and Filariasis has played an important role in promoting the development of medical science in China.

Surveillance and response represent the final crucial steps in achieving effective control and particularly elimination of communicable diseases as recognized in the area of neglected tropical diseases(NTDs),applied in increasing numbers in endemic countries with ongoing control and elimination *** and more national NTD elimination initiatives are scheduled based on the innovative and effective One world-One health perspective to detect pockets of transmission and disease ***-constrained countries,which carry the heaviest NTD burdens,face various challenges how to strengthen the health system as well as developing effective and novel tools for sureillance and response tailored to local ***-response approaches take place in two different stages oralling the basic components of the sureillance response system for NTD *** different research priorities have been identified:(1)dynamic mapping of transmission,(2)near real-time capture of population dynamics,(3)modelling based on a minimum essential database/dataset,(4)implementation of mobile health(m-health)and sensitive diagnostics,(5)design of effective response packages tailored to different transmission settings and levels,and( 6)validation of approaches and responses packages.

American trypanosomiasis,commonly called Chagas disease(CD),was prevalent once in rural areas of Latin America where poverty is widespread and was considered a silent and poorly visible disease(1).It has become a global neglected tropical disease and a significant public health threat worldwide due to globalization over last *** recently,it has attracted much more attention,and“April 14”has been designated as“World Chagas Disease Day”by the World Health Assembly of 2019 to raise awareness of the disease as a neglected tropical disease,to improve the rates of early treatment and recovery,and to achieve the ambitious goal to interrupt its transmission(2).

What is already known about this topic?Visceral leishmaniasis(VL)is an important vectorborne disease in rural areas of western *** spreading of VL made its prevention and control become more *** is added by this report?The number of VL cases decreased from 2015(n=498)to 2019(n=166).However,the mountain-type zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis(MT-ZVL)cases increased from 2015(n=82,16.5%)to 2019(n=122,73.5%).In addition,both number and proportion of imported cases increased from 2015(n=18,3.6%)to 2019(n=41,24.7%).The re-emergence of MT-ZVL was considerable;13 historically-endemic counties reported 48 indigenous *** and young children were the high risk population of VL(848,62.4%)followed by farmers(303,22.3%).What are the implications for public health practice?Both MT-ZVL and imported cases showed an increasing trend in ***,two actions are needed to control VL:1)to prevent re-emergence and spreading of MT-ZVL;and 2)to ensure timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment to avoid fatal VL cases,especially in non-endemic areas.
