Recanalization of anastomotic occlusion following rectal cancer surgery using a rendezvous endoscopic technique with transillumination:A case report

BACKGROUND Colorectal anastomotic occlusion is a serious complication of colorectal cancer *** several treatment strategies have been proposed,the mana-gement of anastomotic occlusion remains *** this report,we present a case of anastomotic occlusion recanalization performed using a novel technique involving two endoscopes,one for radial incision and the other serving as a guide *** novel technique offers significant advantages in terms of operational feasibility,reduced invasiveness,rapid recovery,and shortened hospital *** SUMMARY A 37-year-old man underwent low anterior resection and prophylactic double-lumen ileostomy for rectal cancer in june,*** months later,complete anastomotic occlusion was observed on ***,we developed a novel atresia recanalization *** endoscopes were placed,one through the colonic anastomosis and the other through the anus.A radial incision was successfully made from the colonic side,guided by the light of the endoscope from the anal *** recanal-ization was performed within 20 *** weeks after recanalization,colonoscopy revealed that the diameter of the colorectal anastomosis was approximately 16 mm and the patient therefore underwent stoma reversal in *** the follow-up period of approximately one year,the patient remained well and no stenosis or obstruction symptoms were *** Endoscopic atresia recanalization of colorectal anastomotic occlusion assisted by an opposing light source is safe and effective.

Two-dimensional semiconducting materials with moderate band gap and high carrier mobil- ity have a wide range of applications for electronics and optoelectronics in nanoscale. On the basis of first-principles calculations, we perform a comprehensive study on the electronics and optical properties of graphene-like boron phosphide (BP) sheets. The global structure search and first-principles based molecular dynamic simulation indicate that two-dimensional BP sheet has a graphene-like global minimum structure with high stability. BP monolayer is semiconductor with a direct band gap of 1.37 eV, which reduces with the number of lay- ers. Moreover, the band gaps of BP sheets are insensitive to the applied uniaxial strain. The calculated mobility of electrons in BP monolayer is as high as 106cm2/(V·s). Lastly, the MoS2/BP van der Waals heterobilayers are investigated for photovoltaic applications, and their power conversion efficiencies are estimated to be in the range of 17.7%?19.7%. This study implies the potential applications of graphene-like BP sheets for electronic and optoelectronic devices in nanoscale.

In pattern recognition,the task of image set classification has often been performed by representing data using symmetric positive definite(SPD)matrices,in conjunction with the metric of the resulting Riemannian *** this paper,we propose a new data representation framework for image sets which we call component symmetric positive definite representation(CSPD).Firstly,we obtain sub-image sets by dividing the images in the set into square blocks of the same size,and use a traditional SPD model to describe ***,we use the Riemannian kernel to determine similarities of corresponding subimage ***,the CSPD matrix appears in the form of the kernel matrix for all the sub-image sets;its i,j-th entry measures the similarity between the i-th and j-th sub-image *** Riemannian kernel is shown to satisfy Mercer’s theorem,so the CSPD matrix is symmetric and positive definite,and also lies on a Riemannian *** on three benchmark datasets shows that CSPD is both lower-dimensional and more discriminative data descriptor than standard SPD for the task of image set classification.

STRNet:Triple-stream Spatiotemporal Relation Network for Action Recognition

Learning comprehensive spatiotemporal features is crucial for human action recognition. Existing methods tend to model the spatiotemporal feature blocks in an integrate-separate-integrate form, such as appearance-and-relation network(ARTNet) and spatiotemporal and motion network(STM). However, with blocks stacking up, the rear part of the network has poor interpretability. To avoid this problem, we propose a novel architecture called spatial temporal relation network(STRNet), which can learn explicit information of appearance, motion and especially the temporal relation information. Specifically, our STRNet is constructed by three branches,which separates the features into 1) appearance pathway, to obtain spatial semantics, 2) motion pathway, to reinforce the spatiotemporal feature representation, and 3) relation pathway, to focus on capturing temporal relation details of successive frames and to explore long-term representation dependency. In addition, our STRNet does not just simply merge the multi-branch information, but we apply a flexible and effective strategy to fuse the complementary information from multiple pathways. We evaluate our network on four major action recognition benchmarks: Kinetics-400, UCF-101, HMDB-51, and Something-Something v1, demonstrating that the performance of our STRNet achieves the state-of-the-art result on the UCF-101 and HMDB-51 datasets, as well as a comparable accuracy with the state-of-the-art method on Something-Something v1 and Kinetics-400.

Wrinkle analysis of a space planar film reflect-array

The presence of wrinkles in a membrane is the main factor that induces surface errors on space planar film reflect-arrays. Based on the commercial finite element (FE) package ABAQUS, a numerical procedure for membrane wrinkle analysis was set up, and used to analyze a square planar film reflect-array under pure shear force to evaluate its induced wrinkle characteristics. First, the effect of shear force on the wrinkle pattern of the array was studied and validated by experiment. Second, the effect of prestress was studied. When the prestress increases, the quantity of the wrinkles increases, and the amplitude of the wrinkles decreases. Third, the influence of the boundary conditions was investigated. A frame side edge structure has a relatively smooth surface, but also relatively high stress. Finally, the behavior of a joint seam was analyzed. The results indicate that a joint band has a significant influence on the wrinkle pattern of the membrane.

Involvement of TRPC1 and Cyclin D1 in Human Pulmonary Artery Smooth Muscle Cells Proliferation Induced by Cigarette Smoke Extract

Cigarette smoking contributes to the development of pulmonary artery hypertension(PAH).As the basic pathological change of PAH,pulmonary vascular remodeling is considered to be related to the abnormal proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells(PASMCs).However,the molecular mechanism underlying this process remains not exactly *** aim of this research was to study the molecular mechanism of PASMCs proliferation induced by *** PASMCs(HPASMCs)were divided into 6 groups:0%(control group),cigarette smoking extract(CSE)-treated groups at concentrations of 0.5%,1%,2%,5%,10%CSE *** proliferation was observed after 24 *** were divided into two groups:0(control group),0.5%CSE *** mRNA and protein expression levels of transient receptor potential channel 1(TRPC1)and cyclin D1 in HPASMCs after CSE treatment were respectively detected by RT-PCR and Western *** intracellular calcium ion concentration was measured by the calcium probe in each *** the negative control group and TRPC1-siRNA transfection group,the proliferation of HPASMCs and the expression of cyclin D1 mRNA and protein were *** were compared with one-way ANOVA(for multiple-group comparison)and independent t-test(for two-group comparison)followed by the least significant difference(LSD)test with the computer software SPSS *** was found that 0.5%and 1%CSE could promote the proliferation of HPASMCs(P<0.05),and the former was more effective than the latter(P<0.05),while 3%and above CSE had inhibitory effect on HPASMCs(P<0.05).The mRNA and protein expression levels of TRPC1 and cyclin D1 in 0.5%and 1%CSE groups were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05),while those in 3%CSE group were significantly decreased(P<0.05).Moreover,the proliferation of HPASMCs and the expression of cyclin D1 mRNA and protein in TRPC1-siRNA transfection group were significantly reduced as compared with those in the negative control group(P<

Experimental study of the damage characteristics of rocks containing non-penetrating cracks under cyclic loading

The damage evolution process of non-penetrating cracks often causes some unexpected engineering *** specimens containing non-penetrating crack(s)are used to study the damage evolution and characteristics under cyclic *** results show that under cyclic loading,the relationship between the number of non-penetrating crack(s)and the characteristic parameters(cyclic number,peak stress,peak strain,failure stress,and failure strain)of the pre-cracked specimens can be represented by a decreasing linear *** damage evolution equation is fitted by calibrating the accumulative plastic strain for each cycle,and the damage constitutive equation is proposed by the concept of effective ***,non-penetrating cracks are more likely to cause uneven stress distribution,damage accumulation,and local failure of *** local failure can change the stress distribution and relieve the inhibition of non-penetrating crack extension and eventually cause a dramatic destruction of the ***,the evolution process caused by non-penetrating cracks can be regarded as one of the important reasons for inducing *** results are expected to improve the understanding of the process of spalling formation and rockburst and can be used to analyze the stability of rocks or rock structures.

Berberine Attenuates Cigarette Smoke Extract-induced Airway Inflammation in Mice:Involvement of TGF-β1/Smads Signaling Pathway

Although several studies confirmed that berberine may attenuate airway inflammation in mice with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),its underlying mechanisms were not clear until *** aimed to establish an experiment mouse model for COPD and to investigate the effects of berberine on airway inflammation and its possible mechanism in COPD model mice induced by cigarette smoke extract(CSE).Twenty SPF C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into PBS control group,COPD model group,low-dose berberine group and high-dose berberine group,5 mice in each *** neutrophils and macrophages were examined by Wright's *** levels of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)were detennined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** expression levels of TGF-β1,Smad2 and Smad3 mRNA and proteins in lung tissues were respectively detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western *** was found that CSE increased the number of inflammation cells in BALF,elevated lung inflammation scores,and enhanced the TGF-β1/Smads signaling activity in ***-dose berberine restrained the alterations in the COPD mice induced by *** was concluded that high-dose berberine ameliorated CSE-induced airway inflammation in COPD ***-β1/Smads signaling pathway might be involved in the *** findings suggested a therapeutic potential of high-dose berberine on the CSE-induced airway inflammation.

Enhanced Catalytic Hydrogen Evolution Reaction in Phosphorene Nanosheet via Cobalt Intercalation

Searching alternatives to Pt-based catalyst for producing hydrogen via water splitting has gathered enormous attention to develop renewable energy. Phosphorene has been investigated widely for its large surface area, low cost, and high carrier mobility, however, the poor activity in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and low conductivity limit its practical application. Herein, on the basis of first-principles calculations, we demonstrate that the catalytic HER in phosphorene can be enhanced significantly with cobalt intercalations. The Co-intercalated phosphorene is metallic with charge transfer from Co atoms to phosphorene, which could enhance the catalytic activity of phosphorene. In addition, the calculated Gibbs free energy of hydrogen adsorption on Co-intercalated phosphorene bilayer is comparable to that on Pt(111) surface, independent of the degree of hydrogen coverage. Our study implies that the Co intercalation provides an effective approach to enhance the catalytic HER in phosphorene.
