Objective:The skin manifestations of dermatomyositis(DM)are complex and diverse,with some rashes having diagnostic significance,while others have a certain suggestive effect on the patient’s condition,visceral damage,and prognosis.This case-cohort study was performed to investigate the skin manifestations of 205 adult inpatients with DM.We then analyzed the association between the clinical characteristics and panniculitis in adult patients with DM.Methods:This study was conducted at the First Medical Center of PLA General Hospital,Beijing,China from March 1,2016 to December 30,2020 with follow-up until December 31,2021.This case-cohort study involved 205 eligible participants with DM who met the criteria for idiopathic inflammatory myopathy.Clinical data,cutaneous manifestations,and lesion locations were screened and analyzed.Serum samples were collected,and immunoblotting was used to detect 16 types of myositis-specific antibodies and myositis-associated antibodies.Results:The results showed that 16(7.8%)of the 205 adult patients with DM had panniculitis.The panniculitis was mainly distributed in the subcutaneous fat of the abdomen,buttocks,and thighs.This condition was often accompanied by skin ulcers,atrophic scars,and calcinosis.Moreover,9(72.7%)of the 16 patients with panniculitis were positive for antibodies to nuclear matrix protein 2(anti-NXP2 antibodies).Conclusion:The data showed that panniculitis is an uncommon skin manifestation in adult patients with DM,with a positivity rate of 7.8%.The appearance of panniculitis is likely associated with anti-NXP2 antibodies.

Poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) is gaining significant momentum as a biodegradable polymer using CO_(2) as an abundant, low-cost and renewable feedstock. Yet, PPC suffers from unsatisfactory thermal and mechanical properties, and its blends with other synthetic polymers as the second component typically exhibit poor compatibility. Herein, novel furan-based non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPUs) with high molecular weights and narrow distributions have been synthesized starting from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) via a four-step procedure including reduction, glycidylation, carbonation of CO_(2) and step-growth polymerization with diamines. Owing to the structural similarity and intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions, furan-based NIPUs display good compatibility with PPC. A sea-island morphology can be observed in SEM images of PPC/NIPU blends, where the NIPU phases are randomly dispersed in the PPC matrix. Moreover, the blends exhibit only one Tg (higher than both that of PPC and the corresponding NIPU) on the DSC curves, which first increase and then decrease when increasing the content of NIPUs from 0 wt% to 15 wt%. Notably, the physical crosslinking formed by hydrogen bonding interactions, coupled with the rigidity of furan rings, confer simultaneous improvements of elongation at the break and tensile strength, affording high-performance CO_(2)-based biodegradable polymeric materials with low carbon footprint, good sustainability, and ideal biocompatibility.

To the Editor:Autosomal recessive mental retardation-52(MRT52,OMIM:616887)was first reported in 2016 and is characterized by global developmental delay,[1]severe intellectual disability(ID),speech disorder,and seizures,but no dysmorphic features.[1,2]MRT52 is caused by a homozygous mutation in the vesicular integral membrane protein 36 kDa(VIP36)-like protein,which is also named lectin mannose-binding 2-like(LMAN2L)gene(OMIM:609552).[3]Nufer et al[4]mapped the LMAN2L gene to chromosome 2q11.2.Although the exact LMAN2L function is not clear,evidence suggests that the LMAN2L gene encodes a transmembrane protein(TM)located in the endoplasmic reticulum(ER).

AIM: To evaluate the diagnostic ability of macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer(GCIPL) thickness o b t a i n e d b y s p e c t r a l-d o m a i n o p t i c a l c o h e r e n c e tomography(SD-OCT) in discriminating non-highly myopic eyes with preperimetric glaucoma(PPG) from highly myopic healthy eyes. METHODS: A total of 254 eyes, including 76 normal controls(NC), 116 eyes with high myopia(HM) and 62 non-highly myopic eyes with PPG were enrolled. The diagnostic ability of OCT parameters was accessed by the areas under the receiver operating characteristic(AUROC) curve in two distinguishing groups: PPG eyes with nonglaucomatous eyes including NC and HM(Group 1), and PPG eyes with HM eyes(Group 2). Differences in diagnostic performance between GCIPL and RNFL parameters were evaluated. RESULTS: The minimum(AUROC curve of 0.782), inferotemporal(0.758) and inferior(0.705) GCIPL thickness were the top three GCIPL parameters in discriminating PPG from non-glaucomatous eyes, all of which had statistically significant lower diagnostic ability than average RNFL thickness(0.847). In discriminating PPG from HM, the best GCIPL parameter was minimum(0.689), statistically significant lower in diagnostic ability than average RNFL thickness(0.789) and three other RNFL thickness parameters of temporal and inferotemporal clock-hour sectors. CONCLUSION: The minimum GCIPL thickness is the best GCIPL parameter to detect non-highly myopic PPG from highly myopic eyes, whose diagnostic ability is inferiorto that of average RNFL thickness and RNFL thickness of several temporal and inferotemporal clock-hour sectors. The average RNFL thickness is recommended for discriminating PPG from highly myopic healthy eyes in current clinical practice in a Chinese population.

Distribution of oxide inclusions in H13 castings under super-gravity field with multi-stage rotation speeds

The 42 kg industrial H13 castings were prepared by different super-gravity fields with multi-rotation speeds,and the distribution of oxide inclusions in the castings was studied.In addition,the inward movement Reynolds number and inward movement time of oxide inclusions as well as the solidification time of molten steel at different positions in the castings were calculated to clarify the removal mechanism of oxide inclusions in super-gravity field.The results show that the large size(i.e.,greater than 10μm)oxide inclusions are mainly concentrated in the inner and outer parts of the super-gravity castings with constant rotation speed(500 r min^(-1))and five-stage rotation speeds(500,600,750,850,and 950 r min^(-1)),respectively,while there are no large oxide inclusions in the super-gravity castings with three-stage rotation speeds(500,600,and 750 r min^(-1)).Although an increase in the particle size of inclusion and the rotation speed in super-gravity field is conducive to the increase in the inward movement Reynolds number of oxide inclusions and reduction in the inward movement time of oxide inclusions,it will reduce the local solidification time of molten steel.In the range of the rotation speed studied,the super-gravity field with three-stage rotation speeds has the best effect on the removal of inclusions in H13 molten steel.

The practical application of Li-S batteries is severely restricted by limited cycle life and low sulfur loading.Here,a common industrial paint,methylated amino resin(MAR),was employed as a novel multifunctional binder to address these issues.The S cathodes by using MAR binder(S@MAR) demonstrate an excellent reversible capacity of 480.9 mA·h·g^(-1) after 400 cycles at a rate of 0.5 C,and the sulfur loading in the electrode could achieve as high as 3.0 mg·cm^(-2).These achievements are ascribed to the superior mechanical property for volume expansion,better adsorption ability toward poly sulfides,and more favorable Li+transportation of MAR,compared to the conventional binders of polyvinylidene difluoride and carboxymethylcellulose.This study paves a new way for obtaining high-energy-density Li-S batteries by the simple application of multifunctional binder that are inherently cost-effective.

This paper investigates the interface mechanical behavior of flexible piles with L_p/D>10 under lateral load and an overturning moment in monotonic loading conditions.To modify the beam-on-Winkler-foundation model of piles in offshore wind farms,the energy-based variational method is used.The soil is treated as a multi-layered elastic continuum with the assumption of three-dimensional displacements,the pile modeled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam.A series of cases using MATLAB programming was conducted to investigate the simplified equations of initial stiffness.The results indicated that the interaction between soil layers and the applied force position should be taken into account in calculating the horizontal soil resistance.Additionally,the distributed moment had a limiting effect on the lateral capacity of a flexible pile.Moreover,to account for the more realistic conditions of OWT systems,field data from the Donghai Bridge offshore wind farm were used.

Astragaloside Ⅳ for Heart Failure: Preclinical Evidence and Possible Mechanisms, A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Objective:To explore the cardioprotective effects of astragaloside Ⅳ(AS-Ⅳ) in heart failure(HF).Methods:PubMed,Excerpta Medica Database(EMBASE),Cochrane Library,Web of Science,Wanfang Database,Chinese Bio-medical Literature and Retrieval System(SinoMed),China Science and Technology Journal Database(VIP),and China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) were searched from inception to November 1,2021for animal experiments to explore AS-Ⅳ in treating HF in rats or mice. The left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),left ventricular fractional shortening(LVFS),left ventricular end-diastolic dimension(LVEDD),left ventricular endsystolic dimension(LVESD),left ventricular weight-to-body weight(LVW/BW) and B-type brain natriuretic peptide(BNP) were recorded.The qualities of included studies were assessed by the risk of bias according to the Cochrane handbook.Meta-analysis was performed using Stata 13.0.Results:Twenty-one articles involving 558 animals were considered.Compared with the control group,AS-Ⅳ improved cardiac function,specifically by increasing LVEF(mean difference(MD)=6.97,95% confidence interval(CI)=5.92 to 8.03,P<0.05;fixed effects model) and LVFS(MD=7.01,95% CI=5.84 to 8.81,P<0.05;fixed effects model),and decreasing LVEDD(MD=-4.24,95% CI=-4.74to-3.76,P<0.05;random effects model) and LVESD(MD-4.18,95% CI=-5.26 to-3.10,P<0.05;fixed effects model).In addition,the BNP and LVW/BW levels were decreased in the AS-Ⅳ treatment group(MD=-9.18,95%CI=-14.13 to-4.22,P<0.05;random effects model;MD=-1.91,95% CI=-2.42 to-1.39,P<0.05;random effects model).Conclusions:AS-Ⅳ is a promising therapeutic agent for HF.However,this conclusion needs to be clinically validated in the future.

Identification of 8 Rare Deleterious Variants in ADAMTS13 by Next-generation Sequencing in a Chinese Population with Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Objective Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura(TTP)is a rare and fatal disease caused by a severe deficiency in the metalloprotease ADAMTS13 and is characterized by thrombotic microangiopathy.The present study aimed to investigate the genes and variants associated with TTP in a Chinese population.Methods Target sequencing was performed on 220 genes related to complements,coagulation factors,platelets,fibrinolytic,endothelial,inflammatory,and anticoagulation systems in 207 TTP patients and 574 controls.Subsequently,logistic regression analysis was carried out to identify the TTP-associated genes based on the counts of rare deleterious variants in the region of a certain gene.Moreover,the associations between common variants and TTP were also investigated.Results ADAMTS13 was the only TTP-associated gene(OR=3.77;95%CI:1.82–7.81;P=3.6×10^(-4))containing rare deleterious variants in TTP patients.Among these 8 variants,5 novel rare variants that might contribute to TTP were identified,including rs200594025,rs782492477,c.T1928G(p.I643S),c.3336_3361del(p.Q1114Afs*20),and c.3469_3470del(p.A1158Sfs*17).No common variants associated with TTP were identified under the stringent criteria of correction for multiple testing.Conclusion ADAMTS13 is the primary gene related to TTP.The genetic variants associated with the occurrence of TTP were slightly different between the Chinese and European populations.
