A Finite-Time Recurrent Neural Network for Computing Quadratic Minimization with Time-Varying Coefficients

This paper proposes a Finite-time Zhang neural network(FTZNN) to solve time-varying quadratic minimization problems. Different from the original Zhang neural network(ZNN) that is specially designed to solve time-varying problems and possesses an exponential convergence property, the proposed neural network exploits a sign-bi-power activation function so that it can achieve the finite-time convergence. In addition, the upper bound of the finite convergence time for the FTZNN model is analytically estimated in theory. For comparative purposes, the original ZNN model is also presented to solve time-varying quadratic minimization problems. Numerical experiments are performed to evaluate and compare the performance of the original ZNN model and the FTZNN model. The results demonstrate that the FTZNN model is a more effective solution model for solving time-varying quadratic minimization problems.

The tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced,killing more than 8 million people a year,mainly through noncommunicable diseases(NCDs)(1).World Health Organization(WHO)set nine voluntary global targets for NCDs to be attained by 2025,including a 30%relative reduction in prevalence of current tobacco use by 2025(2),which requires a strong commitment by governments to strengthen the national health system responses and to take action against the leading risk factors for NCDs including tobacco use,the single most preventable cause of death.Commitment to strengthening full implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control(WHO FCTC)is a crucial component of action by governments.

The failure rate of dental implantation in patients with well-controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is higher than that in nondiabetic patients.This due,in part,to the impaired function of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)from the jawbone marrow of T2DM patients(DM-BMSCs),limiting implant osseointegration.RNA N6-methyladenine(m6A)is important for BMSC function and diabetes regulation.However,it remains unclear how to best regulate m6A modifications in DM-BMSCs to enhance function.Based on the“m6A site methylation stoichiometry”of m6A single nucleotide arrays,we identified 834 differential m6Amethylated genes in DM-BMSCs compared with normal-BMSCs(N-BMSCs),including 43 and 790 m6A hypermethylated and hypomethylated genes,respectively,and 1 gene containing hyper-and hypomethylated m6A sites.Differential m6A hypermethylated sites were primarily distributed in the coding sequence,while hypomethylated sites were mainly in the 3’-untranslated region.The largest and smallest proportions of m6A-methylated genes were on chromosome 1 and 21,respectively.Maz F-PCR and real-time RTPCR results for the validation of erythrocyte membrane protein band 4.1 like 3,activity-dependent neuroprotector homeobox(ADNP),growth differentiation factor 11(GDF11),and regulator of G protein signalling 2 agree with m6A single nucleotide array results;ADNP and GDF11 m RNA expression decreased in DM-BMSCs.Furthermore,gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses suggested that most of these genes were enriched in metabolic processes.This study reveals the differential m6A sites of DM-BMSCs compared with N-BMSCs and identifies candidate target genes to enhance BMSC function and improve implantation success in T2DM patients.

The damage models based on the eight-chain model and the affine full-chain network model are not adequate to describe the damage behaviors in double-network(DN)hydrogels.To overcome this limitation,we propose a combined chain stretch model with new damage flow rules.It is demonstrated that the new proposed micro-chain stretch is a reduced form of the complete representation for the transversely isotropic tensor function.As a result,the damage models based on the eight-chain model and the affine model are incorporated as special cases.The effects of chain affineness and network entangling are simultaneously involved in the new model,while only one of these two effects can be characterized in either the eight-chain model or the affine model.It is further shown that the new model can effectively capture the Mullins features of the DN hydrogels and achieve better agreement with the experimental data than the affine model and the eight-chain model.

BACKGROUND Hepatitis B rarely leads to demyelinating neuropathy,despite peripheral neuropathy being the first symptom of hepatitis B infection.CASE SUMMARY A 64-year-old man presented with sensorimotor symptoms in multiple peripheral nerves.Serological testing showed that these symptoms were due to hepatitis B.After undergoing treatment involving intravenous immunoglobulin and an antiviral agent,there was a notable improvement in his symptoms.CONCLUSION Although hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection is known to affect hepatocytes,it is crucial to recognize the range of additional manifestations linked to this infection.The connection between long-term HBV infection and demyelinating neuropathy has seldom been documented;hence,prompt diagnostic and treatment are essential.The patient's positive reaction to immunoglobulin seems to be associated with production of the antigen-antibody immune complex.

Neuronomodulation refers to the modulation of neural conduction and synaptic transmission(i.e.,the conduction process involved in synaptic transmission)of excitable neurons via changes in the membrane potential in response to chemical substances,from spillover neuro-transmitters to paracrine or endocrine hormones circulating in the blood.Neuronomodulation can be direct or indirect,depending on the transduction pathways from the ligand binding site to the ion pore,either on the same molecule,i.***.the ion channel,or through an intermediate step on different molecules.The major players in direct neurono-modulation are ligand-gated or voltage-gated ion channels.The key process of direct neuronomodulation is the binding and chemoactivation of ligand-gated or voltage-gated ion channels,either orthosterically or allosterically,by various ligands.Indirect neuronomodulation involves metabotropic receptor-mediated slow potentials,where steroid hormones,cytokines,and chemokines can implement these actions.Elucidating neuronomodulation is of great significance for understanding the physiological mechanisms of brain function,and the occurrence and treatment of diseases.

The bacterial trialkyl-substituted aromatic polyketides are structurally featured with the unusual aromatic core in the middle of polyketide chain such as TM-123(1),veramycin A(2),NFAT-133(3)and benwamycin I(4),which were discovered from Streptomyces species and demonstrated with antidiabetic and immunosuppressant activities.Though the biosynthetic pathway of 1-3 was reported as a type I polyketide synthase(PKS),the PKS assembly line was interpreted inconsistently,and it remains a mystery how the compound 3 was generated.Herein,the PKS assembly logic of 1-4 was revised by site-mutagenetic analysis of the PKS dehydratase domains.Based on gene deletion and complementation,the putative P450 monooxygenase nftE1 and metallo-beta-lactamase(MBL)fold hydrolase nftF1 were verified as essential genes for the biosynthesis of 1-4.The absence of nftE1 led to abolishment of 1-4 and accumulation of new products(5-8).Structural elucidation reveals 5-8 as the non-aromatic analogs of 1,suggesting the NftE1-catalyzed aromatic core formation.Deletion of nftF1 resulted in disappearance of 3 and 4 with the compounds 1 and 2 unaffected.As a rare MBL-fold hydrolase from type I PKSs,NftF1 potentially generates the compound 3 through two strategies:catalyze premature chain-offloading as a trans-acting thioesterase or hydrolyze the lactone-bond of compound 1 as an esterase.

A Fully Complex-Valued Gradient Neural Network for Rapidly Computing Complex-Valued linear Matrix Equations

This paper concerns online solution of complex-valued linear matrix equations in the complex domain. Differing from the real-valued neural network,which is only designed for solving real-valued linear matrix equations in the real domain, a fully complex-valued Gradient neural network(GNN) is developed for computing complex-valued linear matrix equations. The fully complex-valued GNN model has the merit of reducing the unnecessary complexities in theoretical analysis and realtime computation, as compared to the real-valued neural network. Besides, the convergence analysis of the proposed complex-valued GNN model is presented, and simulation experiments are performed to substantiate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed complex-valued GNN model for online computing the complex-valued linear matrix equations in the complex domain.
