Palladium Complexes with N,O-Bidentate Ligands Based on N-Oxide Units from Cyclic Secondary Amines:Synthesis and Catalytic Application in Mizoroki-Heck Reaction

Palladium-catalyzed Mizoroki-Heck reaction is a powerful and efficient method for construction of Csp2–Csp2 bonds.Herein,four palladium complexes(I—IV)with N,O-bidentate ligands(L1—L4)based on N-oxide units from cyclic secondary amines were easily synthesized and successfully applied in Mizoroki-Heck reaction of aryl bromides with electron-deficient olefins.X-ray diffraction analyses indicated the palladium(II)atom of II took the distorted square planar geometry and was four-coordinated by nitrogen and oxygen atoms from two ligands(L2).Two free chloride ions were presented as counter anions in complex II.But the palladium(II)center of IV was coordinated by nitrogen and oxygen atoms from one ligand(L4)as well as two chlorine atoms,which exhibited the nearly square-planar geometry.The study on catalytic properties of palladium complexes revealed that complex II exhibited high activity superior to the other complexes.The coupling reactions of a series of aryl bromides and olefin derivatives proceeded in the presence of 2—5 mol%palladium complex II,giving the desired products in good to excellent yields.The advantages of this method such as good compatibility of functional groups,high yields,and short reaction times made it more attractive for constructing Csp2–Csp2 bonds in the synthesis of functional molecules and materials.

Ultralong cycle life enabled by in situ growth of CoMo_(1-x)P/Mo heterostructure for lithium-sulfur batteries

Lithium-sulfur batteries(Li-S batteries) are considered as promising new-generation electrochemical energy storage devices due to their extremely high theoretical energy density(2600 Wh kg-1) and theoretical specific capacity(1675 m Ah g^(-1)). However, numerous problems such as poor conductivity and the shuttle effect during discharge-charge process limit the practical application of lithium-sulfur batteries. In this work, porous tubular Co Mo_(1-x)P/Mo constructed by in situ growth of metal Mo was designed as the sulfur host for lithium-sulfur batteries. The introduction of Mo modulated the electronic structure of Co Mo P to improve the conductivity of cathode and facilitate the redox kinetics, as well as the Co Mo_(1-x)P/Mo heterostructure was beneficial to inhibit the shuttle effect through the interaction with lithium polysulfides, which improved cycling stability. As a result, Co Mo_(1-x)P/Mo/S cathode had a low-capacity decay rate of only 0.029% per cycle after 2000 cycles at 0.5 C. This work provided a new perspective for the further design of high-performance lithium-sulfur battery cathode materials.

Three imidazole-modified Ag-polyoxovanadates frameworks(APFs)with a controllable molar ratio of Ag+to polyoxovanadates(POVs)[Ag(IM)_(2)]_(2)V_(4)O_(12)·2Ag(IM)_(2)(APF-1),[Ag_(2)(1-eIM)_(4)]_(2)[Ag(1-eIM)_(2)]_(3)·2Ag(1-eIM)_(2)·3(1-HeIM)[V_(10)O_(28)]_(2)(APF-2)and[Ag(1-pIM)_(2)]_(3)[HV_(10)O_(28)]·2Ag(1-pIM)_(2)·2H_(2)O(APF-3)(IM=imida-zole;1-eIM=1-ethylimidazole and 1-pIM=1-propylimidazole)have been successfully achieved by self-assembly of POVs,Ag+cations,and three different imidazole derivatives.Interestingly,the molar ratios of Ag+to POVs vary from 4:1,4.5:1 to 5:1 by changing the vanadium resources and imidazole deriva-tives.Notably,the coordination environment of Ag+cations and the structure of POVs in the APFs are also different.Specifically,for APF-1,the four Ag atoms adopt three-coordinated and four-coordinated geometries,respectively,and Ag-imidazole complexes and[V_(4)O 1_(2)]_(4)−cluster form the one-dimensional polymeric chains.While Ag atoms in APF-2 and APF-3 exhibit two-,four-and five-coordinated geome-tries for APF-2,four-,five-and six-coordinated geometries for APF-3,respectively.These Ag+cations and decavanadate clusters are assembled into the 2D supramolecular structure through the Ag-O bonds and Ag…Ag argentophilic interaction.Remarkably,thus-obtained APF-2 can serve as powerful efficient hetero-geneous catalyst for construction of C–N bond and detoxification of simulant sulfur mustard(yields up to 99%),which enable successful recycling for three cycles with remained catalytic activities and structure stability.

One-step assembly of organic-ligand modified Pd-Keggin-POMs has been rarely reported,so as for their applications in catalytic benzothiadiazole generation and derived cell-imaging probing.Herein,three PdKeggin-POMs(compounds 1-3)have been successfully synthesized via a one-step assembly strategy.Thus-obtained Pd-Keggin-POMs with well-defined structures and heterogeneous properties enable highly efficient catalytic benzothiadiazole generation.Specifically,compound 3 showed outstanding catalytic activities in Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions for the generation of benzothiadiazole derivatives(yields,90%-97%)and was represented as one of the best catalysts reported to date.Consequently,the obtained benzothiadiazoles were used as the bio-probe for tracking lipid droplets in living-cells and exhibited large Stokes shifts(130 nm),low cytotoxicity and good targeting,which could be also applied to mark the distribution of LDs in living He La cells.Systematic investigations clearly decipher the functions of PdKeggin-POMs toward finding novel bio-probe materials,highlighting a new insight into the generation of sustainable materials in life-science.

Associations of daily sedentary behavior,physical activity,and sleep with irritable bowel syndrome:A prospective analysis of 362,193 participants

Background:Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)substantially affects quality of life and requires early prevention.This study aimed to elucidate the relationships between IBS and daily behaviors,including sedentary behavior(SB),physical activity(PA),and sleep.In particular,it seeks to identify healthy behaviors to reduce IBS risk,which previous studies have rarely addressed.Methods:Daily behaviors were retrieved from self-reported data of 362,193 eligible UK Biobank participants.Incident cases were determined by self-report or health care data according to RomeⅣcriteria.Results:A total of 345,388 participants were IBS-free at baseline,during a median follow-up of 8.45 years,19,885 incident IBS cases were recorded.When examined individually,SB and shorter(≤7 h/day)or longer(>7 h/day)sleep duration were each positively associated with increased IBS risk,and PA was associated with lower IBS risk.The isotemporal substitution model suggested that replacing SB with other activities could provide further protective effects against IBS risk.Among people sleeping≤7 h/day,replacing 1 h of SB with equivalent light PA,vigorous PA,or sleep was associated with 8.1%(95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.901-0.937),5.8%(95%CI:0.896-0.991),and 9.2%(95%CI:0.885-0.932)reduced IBS risk,respectively.For people sleeping>7 h/day,light and vigorous PA were associated with a 4.8%(95%CI:0.926-0.978)and a 12.0%(95%CI:0.815-0.949)lower IBS risk,respectively.These benefits were mostly independent of genetic risk for IBS.Conclusion:SB and unhealthy sleep duration are risk factors for IBS.A promising way to mitigate IBS risk for individuals sleeping≤7 h/day and for those sleeping>7 h/day appears to be by replacing SB with adequate sleep or vigorous PA,respectively,regardless of the genetic predisposition of IBS.

Fast Blood Oxygenation through Hemocompatible Asymmetric Polymer of Intrinsic Microporosity Membranes

Membrane technology has attracted considerable attention for chemical and medical applications,among others.Artificial organs play important roles in medical science.A membrane oxygenator,also known as artificial lung,can replenish O_(2) and remove CO_(2) of blood to maintain the metabolism of patients with cardiopulmonary failure.However,the membrane,a key component,is subjected to inferior gas transport property,leakage propensity,and insufficient hemocompatibility.In this study,we report efficient blood oxygenation by using an asymmetric nanoporous membrane that is fabricated using the classic nonsolvent-induced phase separation method for polymer of intrinsic microporosity-1.The intrinsic superhydrophobic nanopores and asymmetric configuration endow the membrane with water impermeability and gas ultrapermeability,up to 3,500 and 1,100 gas permeation units for CO_(2) and O_(2),respectively.Moreover,the rational hydrophobic–hydrophilic nature,electronegativity,and smoothness of the surface enable the substantially restricted protein adsorption,platelet adhesion and activation,hemolysis,and thrombosis for the membrane.Importantly,during blood oxygenation,the asymmetric nanoporous membrane shows no thrombus formation and plasma leakage and exhibits fast O_(2) and CO_(2) transport processes with exchange rates of 20 to 60 and 100 to 350 ml m^(−2) min^(−1),respectively,which are 2 to 6 times higher than those of conventional membranes.The concepts reported here offer an alternative route to fabricate high-performance membranes and expand the possibilities of nanoporous materials for membrane-based artificial organs.

A thermodynamic perspective on electrode poisoning in solid oxide fuel cells

A critical challenge to the commercialization of clean and high-efficiency solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC)technology is the insuf-ficient stack lifespan caused by a variety of degradation mechanisms,which are associated with cell components and chemical feedstocks.Cell components related degradation refers to thermal/chemical/electrochemical deterioration of cell materials under operating conditions,whereas the latter regards impurities in feedstocks of oxidant(air)and reductant(fuel).This article provides a thermodynamic perspective on the understanding of the impurities-induced degradation mechanisms in SOFCs.The discussion focuses on using thermodynamic ana-lysis to elucidate poisoning mechanisms in cathodes by impurity species such as Cr,CO_(2),H_(2)O,and SO_(2) and in the anode by species such as S(or H_(2)S),SiO_(2),and P_(2)(or PH_(3)).The author hopes the presented fundamental insights can provide a theoretical foundation for search-ing for better technical solutions to address the critical degradation challenges.

In situ direct reprogramming of astrocytes to neurons via polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 1 knockdown in a mouse model of ischemic stroke

In situ direct reprogramming technology can directly convert endogenous glial cells into functional neurons in vivo for central nervous system repair. Polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 1(PTB) knockdown has been shown to reprogram astrocytes to functional neurons in situ. In this study, we used AAV-PHP.e B-GFAP-sh PTB to knockdown PTB in a mouse model of ischemic stroke induced by endothelin-1, and investigated the effects of GFAP-sh PTB-mediated direct reprogramming to neurons. Our results showed that in the mouse model of ischemic stroke, PTB knockdown effectively reprogrammed GFAP-positive cells to neurons in ischemic foci, restored neural tissue structure, reduced inflammatory response, and improved behavioral function. These findings validate the effectiveness of in situ transdifferentiation of astrocytes, and suggest that the approach may be a promising strategy for stroke treatment.

Malignant hyperthermia(MH)is a genetic disorder of skeletal muscle cells that affects muscle cytoplasmic calcium homeostasis,with high mortality and low morbidity.Generally,it presents with non-specific signs of a hypermetabolic response,including high fever,tachycardia,and elevated end-tidal carbon dioxide(ETCO_(2)).The successful treatment lies in the timely recognition and early use of dantrolene.[1]As an inhibitor of Ca2+release through ryanodine receptor(RYR)channels,the skeletal muscle relaxant dantrolene has proven to be both a valuable experimental probe of intracellular Ca2+signaling and a lifesaving treatment for MH.[2]Dominant mutations in the skeletal muscle RYR1 gene are well-recognized causes of both malignant hyperthermia susceptibility(MHS)and central core disease(CCD).

Aberrant protamination in sperm correlates to anomalous nuclear and cytoplasmic architectures in infertile males with sperm dysmorphology

Aberrant sperm protamination is linked to sperm dysmorphology and nuclear chromatin condensation.Yet,its effects on sperm cytoplasmic maturation remain largely unexplored.The relationships of protamines,sperm morphology,DNA damage,and cytoplasmic remodeling were illustrated in this study to provide fresh perspectives on the mechanisms of male infertility.A total of 205 infertile males were allocated into 5 groups according to the percentage of spermatozoa exhibiting abnormal morphology within their samples.Sperm concentration,motility,abnormal sperm morphology,cytoplasmic droplets(CDs),and excess residual cytoplasm(ERC)were analyzed according to the World Health Organization manual(2010).Sperm nuclear vacuoles(NVs)were determined by propidium iodide(PI)staining.Sperm protamine expressions(P1 and P2)were detected by western blot.DNA damage was measured by acridine orange test(AOT)to calculate the proportion of sperm with single-strand DNA breaks(SSBs).Our data showed that sperm concentration and motility in infertile males significantly decreased with the severity of abnormal sperm morphology(both P<0.01).P1 level,P1/P2 ratio,and SSB rate increased with the severity of sperm dysmorphology,whilst the P2 level decreased(all P
