Pyridine-regulated Sb@InSbS3 ultrafine nanoplates as high-capacity and long-cycle anodes for sodium-ion batteries

Sb-based materials exhibit considerable potential for sodium-ion storage owing to their high theoretica capacities.However,the bulk properties of Sb-based materials always result in poor cycling and rate performances.To overcome these issues,pyridine-regulated Sb@InSbS3ultrafine nanoplates loaded on reduced graphene oxides （Sb@InSbS3@rGO） were designed and synthesized.During the synthesis process,pyridine was initially adopted to coordinate with In3+,and uniformly dispersed In2S3ultrafine nanoplates on reduced graphene oxide were generated after sulfidation.Next,partial In3+was exchanged with Sb3+,and Sb@InSbS3@rGO was obtained by using the subsequent annealing method.The unique structure of Sb@InSbS3@rGO effectively shortened the transfer path of sodium ions and electrons and provided a high pseudocapacitance.As the anode in sodium-ion batteries,the Sb@InSbS3@rGO electrode demonstrated a significantly higher reversible capacity better stability (445 m Ah·g-1at 0.1 A·g-1after 200 cycles and 212 mAh·g-1at 2 A·g-1after 1200 cycles),and superior rate (210 mAh·g-1at 6.4 A·g-1) than the electrode without pyridine (355 mAh·g-1at 0.1 A·g-1after 55 cycles and 109 mAh·g-1at 2 A·g-1after 770 cycles)Furthermore,full cells were assembled by using the Sb@InSbS3@rGO as anode and Na3V2（PO4）3as cathode which demonstrated good cycling and rate performances and exhibited promising application prospects.These results indicate that adjusting the microstructure of electrode materials through coordination balance is A·good strategy for obtaining high-capacity,high-rate,and longcycle sodium storage performances.

Sexual Dimorphism and Female Reproductive Characteristics in the Hainan Water Skink(Tropidophorus hainanus)from Hainan,South China

We studied sexual dimorphism in body size and shape and female reproductive characteristics in the Hainan Water Skink(Tropidophorus hainanus)from Hainan,South China.In our sample the largest female and male were 61.1 and 55.2 mm snout-vent length(SVL),respectively.The mean SVL was larger in adult females(52.0 mm)than in adult males(48.3 mm).Juveniles were sexually dimorphic in head length but not in other examined morphological variables.Adult males were longer in head length and shorter in abdomen length and fore-limb length than adult females of the same SVL.Ontogenetic shifts in sexual dimorphism in body shape were evident,as revealed by the fact that morphological differences between the sexes were more pronounced in adults than in juveniles.Females produced a single litter of 3–6 offspring per season from early August to early September.Litter size,litter mass and offspring(neonate)mass were positively related to female SVL.Neonate mass was independent of relative fecundity.From the above findings we draw three main conclusions.First,females are the larger sex in T.hainanus,and sexual dimorphism in body shape is more pronounced in adults than in juveniles.Second,larger female T.hainanus produce more and larger offspring and thus heavier litters than smaller ones.Third,the offspring size-number trade-off does is not evident in T.hainanus.

Special electromyographic features in a child with paramyotonia congenita: A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND Paramyotonia congenita(PMC)stands as a rare sodium channelopaty of skeletal muscle,initially identified by Eulenburg.The identification of PMC often relies on electromyography(EMG),a diagnostic technique.The child’s needle EMG unveiled trains of myotonic discharges with notably giant amplitudes,alongside irregular wave trains of myotonic discharges.This distinctive observation had not surfaced in earlier studies.CASE SUMMARY We report the case of a 3-year-old female child with PMC,who exhibited la-ryngeal stridor,muffled speech,myotonia from birth.Cold,exposure to cool water,crying,and physical activity exacerbated the myotonia,which was relieved in warmth,yet never normalized.Percussion myotonia was observable in bilateral biceps.Myotonia symptoms remained unchanged after potassium-rich food consumption like bananas.Hyperkalemic periodic paralysis was excluded.Cranial magnetic resonance imaging yielded normal results.Blood potassium remained within normal range,while creatine kinase showed slight elevation.Exome-wide genetic testing pinpointed a heterozygous mutation on chromosome SCN4A:c.3917G>A(p.G1306E).After a six-month mexiletine regimen,symptoms alleviated.CONCLUSION In this case revealed the two types of myotonic discharges,and had not been documented in other studies.We underscore two distinctive features:Giant-amplitude potentials and irregular waves.

Probiotics intervention in colorectal cancer:From traditional approaches to novel strategies

The intestine harbors a large population of microorganisms that interact with epithelial cells to maintain host healthy physiological status.These intestinal microbiota engage in the fermentation of non-digestible nutrients and produce beneficial metabolites to regulate host homeostasis,metabolism,and immune response.The disruption of microbiota,known as dysbiosis,has been implicated in many intestinal diseases,including colorectal cancer(CRC).As the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide,CRC poses a significant health burden.There is an urgent need for novel interventions to reduce CRC incidence and improve clinical outcomes.Modulating the intestinal microbiota has emerged as a promising approach for CRC prevention and treatment.Current research efforts in CRC probiotics primarily focus on reducing the incidence of CRC,alleviating treatment-related side effects,and potentiating the efficacy of anticancer therapy,which is the key to successful translation to clinical practice.This paper aims to review the traditional probiotics and new interventions,such as next-generation probiotics and postbiotics,in the context of CRC.The underlying mechanisms of probiotic anti-cancer effects are also discussed,including the restoration of microbial composition,reinforcement of gut barrier integrity,induction of cancer cell apoptosis,inactivation of carcinogens,and modulation of host immune response.This paper further evaluates the novel strategy of probiotics as an adjuvant therapy in boosting the efficacy of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.Despite all the promising findings presented in studies,the evaluation of potential risks,optimization of delivery methods,and consideration of intra-patient variability of gut microbial baseline must be thoroughly interpreted before bench-to-bedside translation.

Neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects of eicosane on glutamate and NMDA-induced retinal ganglion cell injury

AIM:To investigate the protective effects,antioxidant potential,and anti-inflammatory mechanisms of eicosane on glutamate-induced cell damage and on N-methyl-Daspartate(NMDA)-induced retinal ganglion cell(RGC)injury in a mouse model of glaucoma.METHODS:The protective effects of eicosane on the rat R28 retinal precursor cell line were assessed using cell counting kit-8 assays and Hoechst-propidium iodide staining.Intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)production was measured using the fluorescent probe 2'-7'-dichlorofluorescin diacetate and flow cytometry.The protective role of eicosane on NMDA-induced RGC injury in a mouse glaucoma model was determined by immunostaining of frozen sections of retina.The effects of eicosane on the metabolome of the retina in mice with NMDA-induced RGC damage were evaluated by liquid chromatographymass spectroscopy(LC-MS)and untargeted metabolomics analyses.RESULTS:Eicosane treatment significantly attenuated glutamate-induced damage to R28 cells in vitro.Eicosane also protected RGCs against NMDA-induced injury in a mouse glaucoma model.Untargeted metabolomics analyses showed that eicosane increased multiple metabolites,including L-arginine and L-carnitine,in the retina.CONCLUSION:Eicosane has protective effects,antioxidant potential,and anti-inflammatory properties in an in vitro model of glutamate-induced cell damage and in an in vivo model of NMDA-induced RGC injury in mouse glaucoma through modulation of L-arginine and/or L-carnitine metabolism.

A novel algorithm for evaluating cement azimuthal density based on perturbation theory in horizontal well

Cement density monitoring plays a vital role in evaluating the quality of cementing projects,which is of great significance to the development of oil and gas.However,the presence of inhomogeneous cement distribution and casing eccentricity in horizontal wells often complicates the accurate evaluation of cement azimuthal density.In this regard,this paper proposes an algorithm to calculate the cement azimuthal density in horizontal wells using a multi-detector gamma-ray detection system.The spatial dynamic response functions are simulated to obtain the influence of cement density on gamma-ray counts by the perturbation theory,and the contribution of cement density in six sectors to the gamma-ray recorded by different detectors is obtained by integrating the spatial dynamic response functions.Combined with the relationship between gamma-ray counts and cement density,a multi-parameter calculation equation system is established,and the regularized Newton iteration method is employed to invert casing eccentricity and cement azimuthal density.This approach ensures the stability of the inversion process while simultaneously achieving an accuracy of 0.05 g/cm^(3) for the cement azimuthal density.This accuracy level is ten times higher compared to density accuracy calculated using calibration equations.Overall,this algorithm enhances the accuracy of cement azimuthal density evaluation,provides valuable technical support for the monitoring of cement azimuthal density in the oil and gas industry.

Paleoenvironmental reconstruction and organic matter accumulation of the paleogene shahejie oil shale in the Zhanhua Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, Eastern China

The controlling factors of organic-rich shale accumulation is essential for the exploration and development of shale oil and gas resources. The sedimentary environment plays a vital role in the formation of organic-rich sediments in lacustrine facies. This article unravels the mineralogy, geochemistry, and paleoenvironmental evolution during the deposition of the Paleogene Shahejie Formation(Es3L). It discusses the effects of paleoclimate, paleosalinity, paleoredox conditions, paleowater depth, and paleoproductivity on organic matter(OM) enrichment. Finally, the OM enrichment model was established. The results show that the mineralogical compositions are mainly composed of calcite(avg. 40.13%), quartz(avg. 21.64%) and clay minerals(avg. 24.07%), accompanied by dolomite(avg. 7.07%), feldspar(avg. 6.36%)and pyrite(avg. 2.95%). The Es3Lshale has a high abundance of OM, with total organic carbon(TOC)ranging from 1.07% to 5.12%. The organic matter type is mainly composed of type I-II1kerogen, which is generally considered a good-quality source rock. The source of OM is a mixture of lower bacteria, algae,and plants. During the early sedimentary period, the paleoclimate was dry and cold, with high salinity,intense reducibility, and relatively low productivity. During the late sedimentary period, the climate became warmer and more humid. As a result, the salinity decreased to a level that was suitable for biological reproduction, and productivity increased gradually due to the input of terrigenous plants.Paleosalinity and paleoclimate determined the environment of the sedimentary period, in addition,paleoproductivity and paleoredox condition indicated the formation and preservation conditions of OM.The warm and humid climate, brackish water, suitable reduction conditions and high productivity are the favorable conditions for the generation and preservation of organic matter. An integrative mathematical model of microwave ion thruster for mHz-frequency thrust noise analysis

Many high-precision space missions need thrusters to produce thrust with low noise to compensate for disturbances and ensure satellite platform stability. Microwave ion thruster is characterized with a wide thrust range and potential for these missions. A cost-effective and accurate mathematical model is crucial for mHz-frequency thrust noise analysis and feedback controller design. The Particle-In-Cell(PIC) and global models are two common simulation tools. The PIC model is characterized with high accuracy but huge computation cost, which is difficult to analyze long-time performance characteristics. Now, the global model is only used for the discharge chamber with low accuracy and cannot reflect ion extraction properties. In this paper, an integrative mathematical model is built for a 1-cm microwave ion thruster and can reflect ion beamlet divergence and impingement on the Accelerator Grid(AG). Simulation results show good agreement with experiments at 0.06 sccm. However, the model demonstrates worse consistency with experiments when the flux increases to 0.1 sccm, which may be because the influence of neutral gas on the Electron Cyclotron Resonance(ECR) is not considered in the model. A long-time(1000 s) simulation is conducted with this model under 35 μN. It takes 3 hrs, and the thrust noise reaches 1 μN/Hz^(0.5) at 1 mHz.

Fabricating low-strain and fast-charging silicon-carbon composite anodes is highly desired but remains a huge challenge for lithium-ion batteries.Herein,we report a unique silicon-carbon composite fabricated by uniformly dis-persing amorphous Si nanodots(SiNDs)in carbon nanospheres(SiNDs/C)that are welded on the wall of the macroporous carbon framework(MPCF)by vertical graphene(VG),labeled as MPCF@VG@SiNDs/C.The high dispersity and amor-phous features of ultrasmall SiNDs(~0.7 nm),the flexible and directed electron/Li+transport channels of VG,and the MPCF impart the MPCF@VG@SiNDs/C more lithium storage sites,rapid Li+transport path,and unique low-strain property during Li+storage.Consequently,the MPCF@VG@SiNDs/C exhibits high cycle stability(1301.4 mAh g^(-1) at 1 A g^(-1) after 1000 cycles without apparent decay)and high rate capacity(910.3 mAh g^(-1),20 A g^(-1))in half cells based on industrial electrode standards.The assembled pouch full cell delivers a high energy density(1694.0 Wh L^(-1);602.8 Wh kg^(-1))and an excellent fast-charging capability(498.5 Wh kg^(-1),charging for 16.8 min at 3 C).This study opens new possibilities for preparing advanced silicon-carbon com-posite anodes for practical applications.
