Identification and effective regulation of scarb1 gene involved in pigmentation change in autotetraploid Carassius auratus

The autotetraploid Carassius auratus(4nRR,4n=200,RRRR)is derived from whole-genome duplication of Carassius auratus red var.(RCC,2n=100,RR).In the current study,we demonstrated that chromatophores and pigment changes directly caused the coloration and variation of 4nRR skin(red in RCC,brownish-yellow in4nRR).To further explore the molecular mechanisms underlying coloration formation and variation in 4nRR,we performed transcriptome profiling and molecular functional verification in RCC and 4nRR.Results revealed that scarb1,associated with carotenoid metabolism,underwent significant down-regulation in 4nRR.Efficient editing of this candidate pigment gene provided clear evidence of its significant role in RCC coloration.Subsequently,we identified four divergent scarb1 homeologs in 4nRR:two original scarb1 homeologs from RCC and two duplicated ones.Notably,three of these homeologs possessed two highly conserved alleles,exhibiting biased and allelespecific expression in the skin.Remarkably,after precise editing of both the original and duplicated scarb1homeologs and/or alleles,4nRR individuals,whether singly or multiply mutated,displayed a transition from brownishyellow skin to a cyan-gray phenotype.Concurrently,the proportional areas of the cyan-gray regions displayed a gene-dose correlation.These findings illustrate the subfunctionalization of duplicated scarb1,with all scarb1genes synergistically and equally contributing to the pigmentation of 4nRR.This is the first report concerning the functional differentiation of duplicated homeologs in an autopolyploidfish,substantiallyenrichingour understanding of coloration formation and change within this group of organisms.

BACKGROUND Endoscopic ultrasound-guided biliary drainage using electrocautery-enhanced(ECE)delivery of lumen-apposing metal stent(LAMS)is gradually being re-cognized as a viable palliative technique for malignant biliary obstruction after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)failure.However,most of the studies that have assessed its efficacy and safety were small and hetero-geneous.Prior meta-analyses of six or fewer studies that were published 2 years ago were therefore underpowered to yield convincing evidence.AIM To update the efficacy and safety of ECE-LAMS for treatment of biliary ob-struction after ERCP failure.METHODS We searched PubMed,EMBASE,and Scopus databases from the inception of the ECE technique to May 13,2022.Primary outcome measure was pooled technical success rate,and secondary outcomes were pooled rates of clinical success,re-intervention,and adverse events.Meta-analysis was performed using a random-effects model following Freeman-Tukey double-arcsine transformation in R soft-ware(version 4.1.3).RESULTS Fourteen eligible studies involving 620 participants were ultimately included.The pooled rate of technical success was 96.7%,and clinical success was 91.0%.Adverse events were reported in 17.5%of patients.Overall reinter-vention rate was 7.3%.Subgroup analyses showed results were generally consistent.CONCLUSION ECE-LAMS has favorable success with acceptable adverse events in relieving biliary obstruction when ERCP is impossible.The consistency of results across most subgroups suggested that this is a generalizable approach.

Uniqueness on Difference Operators of Meromorphic Functions of Infinite Order

We investigate the uniqueness problems of meromorphic functions and their difference operators by using a new method.It is proved that if a non-constant meromorphic function f shares a non-zero constant and ∞ counting multiplicities with its difference operators Δcf(z) and Δ_(c)^(2)f(z), thenΔcf(z)≡Δ_(c)^(2)f(z).In particular,we give a difference analogue of a result of Jank-Mues-Volkmann.Our method has two distinct features:(ⅰ) It converts the relations between functions into the corresponding vectors.This makes it possible to deal with the uniqueness problem by linear algebra and combinatorics.(ⅱ) It circumvents the obstacle of the difference logarithmic derivative lemma for meromorphic functions of infinite order,since this method does not depend on the growth of the functions.Furthermore,the idea in this paper can also be applied to the case for several variables.

Dual Frequency Transformer for Efficient SDR-to-HDR Translation

The SDR-to-HDR translation technique can convert the abundant standard-dynamic-range (SDR) media resources to high-dynamic-range (HDR) ones, which can represent high-contrast scenes, providing more realistic visual experiences. While recent vision Transformers have achieved promising performance in many low-level vision tasks, there are few works attempting to leverage Transformers for SDR-to-HDR translation. In this paper, we are among the first to investigate the performance of Transformers for SDR-to-HDR translation. We find that directly using the self-attention mechanism may involve artifacts in the results due to the inappropriate way to model long-range dependencies between the low-frequency and high-frequency components. Taking this into account, we advance the self-attention mechanism and present a dual frequency attention (DFA), which leverages the self-attention mechanism to separately encode the low-frequency structural information and high-frequency detail information. Based on the proposed DFA, we further design a multi-scale feature fusion network, named dual frequency Transformer (DFT), for efficient SDR-to-HDR translation. Extensive experiments on the HDRTV1K dataset demonstrate that our DFT can achieve better quantitative and qualitative performance than the recent state-of-the-art methods. Assessment of Wet Season Precipitation in the Central United States by the Regional Climate Simulation of the WRFG Member in NARCCAP and Its Relationship with Large-Scale Circulation Biases

Assessment of past-climate simulations of regional climate models(RCMs)is important for understanding the reliability of RCMs when used to project future regional climate.Here,we assess the performance and discuss possible causes of biases in a WRF-based RCM with a grid spacing of 50 km,named WRFG,from the North American Regional Climate Change Assessment Program(NARCCAP)in simulating wet season precipitation over the Central United States for a period when observational data are available.The RCM reproduces key features of the precipitation distribution characteristics during late spring to early summer,although it tends to underestimate the magnitude of precipitation.This dry bias is partially due to the model’s lack of skill in simulating nocturnal precipitation related to the lack of eastward propagating convective systems in the simulation.Inaccuracy in reproducing large-scale circulation and environmental conditions is another contributing factor.The too weak simulated pressure gradient between the Rocky Mountains and the Gulf of Mexico results in weaker southerly winds in between,leading to a reduction of warm moist air transport from the Gulf to the Central Great Plains.The simulated low-level horizontal convergence fields are less favorable for upward motion than in the NARR and hence,for the development of moist convection as well.Therefore,a careful examination of an RCM’s deficiencies and the identification of the source of errors are important when using the RCM to project precipitation changes in future climate scenarios.

Experimental distillation of tripartite quantum steering with an optimal local filtering operation

Multipartite Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen(EPR)steering admits multipartite entanglement in the presence of uncharacterized verifiers,enabling practical applications in semi-device-independent protocols.Such applications generally require stronger steerability,while the unavoidable noise weakens steerability and consequently degrades the performance of quantum information processing.Here,we propose the local filtering operation that can maximally distill genuine tripartite EPR steering from N copies of three-qubit generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states,in the context of two semi-device-independent scenarios.The optimal filtering operation is determined by the maximization of assemblage fidelity.Analytical and numerical results indicate the advantage of the proposed filtering operation when N is finite and the steerability of initial assemblages is weak.Experimentally,a proof-of-principle demonstration of two-copy distillation is realized with the optical system.The advantage of the optimal local filtering operation is confirmed by the distilled assemblage in terms of higher assemblage fidelity with perfectly genuine tripartite steerable assemblages,as well as the greater violation of the inequality to witness genuine tripartite steerable assemblages.Our results benefit the distillation of multipartite EPR steering in practice,where the number of copies of initial assemblages is generally finite.

Urban spatial cluster structure in metro travel networks:An explorative study of Wuhan using big and open data

Rail transit plays a crucial role in improving urban sustainability and livability.In many Chinese cities,the planning of rail transit routes and stations is focused on facilitating new developments rather than revitalizing existing built-up areas.This approach reflects the local governments’expectations of substantial growth to reshape the urban structure.However,existing research on transit-oriented development(TOD)rarely explores the spatial interactions between individual transit stations and investigates how they can be integrated to achieve synergistic effects and balanced development.This study proposes that rail transit systems impact urban structure through two“forces”:the provision of additional and reliable carrying capacity and the reduction of travel time between locations.Metro passenger flow is used as a proxy for these forces,and community detection techniques are employed to identify the actual and optimal spatial clusters in Wuhan,China.The results reveal that the planned sub-centers align reasonably well with the optimal spatial clusters in terms of spatial configuration.However,the actual spatial clusters tend to have longer internal travel times compared to the optimal clusters.Further exploration suggests the need for equalizing land use density within planned spatial clusters served by the metro system.Additionally,promoting concentrated,differentiated,and mixed functional arrangements in metro station areas with low passenger flows within the planned clusters could be beneficial.This paper presents a new framework for investigating urban spatial clusters influenced by a metro system.

Effect of drying-wetting cycles on pore characteristics and mechanical properties of enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation-reinforced sea sand

Enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation(EICP)is an emanating,eco-friendly and potentially sound technique that has presented promise in various geotechnical applications.However,the durability and microscopic characteristics of EICP-treated specimens against the impact of drying-wetting(D-W)cycles is under-explored yet.This study investigates the evolution of mechanical behavior and pore charac-teristics of EICP-treated sea sand subjected to D-W cycles.The uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)tests,synchrotron radiation micro-computed tomography(micro-CT),and three-dimensional(3D)recon-struction of CT images were performed to study the multiscale evolution characteristics of EICP-reinforced sea sand under the effect of D-W cycles.The potential correlations between microstructure characteristics and macro-mechanical property deterioration were investigated using gray relational analysis(GRA).Results showed that the UCS of EICP-treated specimens decreases by 63.7% after 15 D-W cycles.The proportion of mesopores gradually decreases whereas the proportion of macropores in-creases due to the exfoliated calcium carbonate with increasing number of D-W cycles.The micro-structure in EICP-reinforced sea sand was gradually disintegrated,resulting in increasing pore size and development of pore shape from ellipsoidal to columnar and branched.The gray relational degree suggested that the weight loss rate and UCS deterioration were attributed to the development of branched pores with a size of 100-1000 m m under the action of D-W cycles.Overall,the results in this study provide a useful guidancee for the long-term stability and evolution characteristics of EICP-reinforced sea sand under D-W weathering conditions.

We establish tighter uncertainty relations for arbitrary finite observables via(α,β,γ)weighted Wigner–Yanase–Dyson((α,β,γ)WWYD)skew information.The results are also applicable to the(α,γ)weighted Wigner–Yanase–Dyson((α,γ)WWYD)skew information and the weighted Wigner–Yanase–Dyson(WWYD)skew information.We also present tighter lower bounds for quantum channels and unitary channels via(α,β,γ)modified weighted Wigner–Yanase–Dyson((α,β,γ)MWWYD)skew information.Detailed examples are provided to illustrate the tightness of our uncertainty relations.
