Direct generation of Zn metal using laser-induced ZnS to eradicate carbon emissions from electrolysis Zn production

In response to the goal of net-zero emissions proposed by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, chinese government has pledged that carbon emissions will peak by 2030, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. However, the high carbon energy structure of traditional industries has aggravated {1. problems, such as greenhouse effect and air pollution. The goal of carbon neutrality will be difficult to achieve without the development of disruptive theories and technologies. The electrolytic zinc industry requires high-temperature roasting at ~1.00 ℃, generating large amounts of greenhouse gases and SO_(2). High concentrations of sulfuric acid (200 g/L) are subsequently used for electrolysis, and each ton of zinc produced generates 50 kg of anode slime with lead content of up to 1.%, as well as 0.35 m3 of wastewater containing zinc and lead. To solve these problems, an optical metallurgy method is proposed in this study. The proposed method uses laser-induced photoreduction to decompose ZnS and reduce metal ions to metal. Results indicate that Zn0 and S8 can be detected on the surface of ZnS at a specific wavelength and laser fluence. The generation mechanism of Zn0 is such that laser induces an electronic transition that breaks ionic bond in ZnS, resulting in its decomposition and photoreduction to Zn0 under an inert argon gas atmosphere. This method does not reduce other metals in the mineral since it does not use high-temperature roasting, providing a new way of producing high-purity metal without greenhouse gas emissions and heavy metal pollution caused by traditional zinc electrolysis.

Relative importance of water, energy, and heterogeneity in determining regional pteridophyte and seed plant richness in china

environmental variables, such as ambient energy, water availability, and environmental heterogeneity have been frequently proposed to account for species diversity gradients. How taxon-specific functional traits define large-scale richness gradients is a fundamental issue in understanding spatial patterns of species diversity, but has not been well documented. Using a large dataset on the regional flora from china, we examine the contrast spatial patterns and environmental determinants between pteridophytes and seed plants which differ in dispersal capacity and environmental requirements. Pteridophyte richness shows more pronounced spatial variation and stronger environmental associations than seed plant richness. Water availability generally accounts for more spatial variance in species richness of pteridophytes and seed plants than energy and heterogeneity do, especially for pteridophytes which have high dependence on moist and shady environments. Thus, pteridophyte richness is disproportionally affected by water-related variables; this in turn results in a higher proportion of pteridophytes in regional vascular plant floras (pteridophyte proportion) in wet regions. Most of the variance in seed plant richness, pteridophyte richness, and pteridophyte proportion explained by energy is included in variation that water and heterogeneity account for, indicating the redundancy of energy in the study extent. However, heterogeneity is more important for determining seed plant distributions. Pteridophyte and seed plant richness is strongly correlated, even after the environmental effects have been removed, implying functional linkages between them. Our study highlights the importance of incorporating biological traits of different taxonomic groups into the studies of macroecology and global change biology.

Intensive management enhances mycorrhizal respiration but decreases free-living microbial respiration by affecting microbial abundance and community structure in Moso bamboo forest soils

Intensive management is known to markedly alter soil carbon(C)storage and turnover in Moso bamboo forests compared with extensive ***,the effects of intensive management on soil respiration(RS)components remain *** study aimed to evaluate the changes in different RScomponents(root,mycorrhizal,and free-living microorganism respiration)in Moso bamboo forests under extensive and intensive management practices.A1.year in-situ microcosm experiment was conducted to quantify the RScomponents in Moso bamboo forests under the two management practices using mesh screens of varying *** results showed that the total RSand its components exhibited similar seasonal variability between the two management *** with extensive management,intensive management significantly increased cumulative respiration from mycorrhizal fungi by 36.73%,while decreased cumulative respiration from free-living soil microorganisms by 8.97%.Moreover,the abundance of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)increased by 43.38%,but bacterial and fungal abundances decreased by 21.65%and 33.30%,respectively,under intensive *** management practices significantly changed the bacterial community composition,which could be mainly explained by soil pH and available *** fungi and intensive management affected the interrelationships between bacterial *** equation modeling indicated that intensive management changed the cumulative RSby elevating AMF abundance and lowering bacterial *** concluded that intensive management reduced the microbial respiration-derived C loss,but increased mycorrhizal respiration-derived C loss.

Electrocatalytic n-valeraldehyde oxidation reaction was an inexpensive and eco-friendly method to control n-valeraldehyde contamination and produce high value-added ***,low-cost and readily available electrocatalysts with high current efficiency were urgently ***,two-dimensional porous carbon derived from pollen with enlarged interlayer distance was built by alkali activation method,applying in electrocatalytic n-valeraldehyde oxidation *** enlarged interlayer distance was verified by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscope(HAADF-STEM).Electrocatalytic experiments consequences showed activated biomass derived carbon possessed a higher electrocatalytic activity and octane selectivity than unactivated *** tests and in situ infrared experiments demonstrated that enlarged interlayer distance was positively correlated with specific surface area of catalysts,large specific surface area provided abundant absorption sites,facilitated the adsorption for n-valeraldehyde,and further promoted the transformation of n-valeraldehyde to *** work also provides a new avenue for creating high-performance electrocatalysts in terms of lattice engineering.

Gut microbial interactions based on network construction and bacterial pairwise cultivation

Spatiotemporal variations in glacier area and surface velocity of the northern Antarctic Peninsula during 201.-2022

Ice sheet serves as a crucial indicator for assessing climate *** loss in recent remote sensing-based studies indicated that the Antarctic Peninsula has rapid rates of glacier retreat and speed up of surface ***,observations of seasonal variability of ice speed are limited,and glacier-area changes require multi-temporal *** study investigated the changes in area and surface velocities of∼375 glaciers on the northern Antarctic Peninsula(NAP)utilizing satellite images acquired by the Sentinel 1.2 satellites during *** results indicate that the glacier area reduced by approximately 1.6.1.44.2 km^(2)(-0.2%±0.1.per year)during the study period,with an acceleration after 2020(-0.4%±0.3%per year),and the most dramatic reduction happened on the eastern *** maximum annual ice speeds on the NAP generally exceeded 3500 m per year,while the ice speeds in 2021.were the highest(exceeded 421. m per year).The ice speed variability in austral autumn was higher than in other seasons,meanwhile the summer ice speeds showed an increasing *** glacier G01.1.8E4701.N,McNeile Glacier,glacier G299637E64094S and Drygalski Glacier showed the most remarkable ice speed variations represented by high daily velocities and strong fluctuations on their *** results demonstrated that the variations in glacier area and seasonal ice speed on the NAP were responsive to the ice-ocean-atmosphere ***,seasonal velocity and area variations should be considered when conducting accurate mass balance calculations,model validations and change mechanism analyses under climate warming scenarios.

Synergistic promotion of particulate matter reduction and production performance via adjusting electrochemical reactions in the zinc electrolysis industry

Heavy particulate matter (PM) pollution and high energy consumption are the bottlenecks of hydrometallurgy, especially in the electrolysis process. Therefore, an urgent need is to explore PM reduction methods with production performance co-benefits. This study presents three PM reduction methods based on controlling operating parameters, i.e., lowering electrolyte temperature, H2SO4 concentration, and current density of the cathode. The optimized conditions were also investigated using the response surface methodology to balance the PM reduction effect and Zn production. The results showed that lowering electrolyte temperature is the most efficient, with an 89.0% reduction in the PM generation flux (GFPM). Reducing H2SO4 concentration led to the minimum side effects on the current efficiency of Zn deposition (CEZn) or power consumption (PC). With the premise of non-deteriorating CEZn and PC, GFPM can be reduced by 86.3% at the optimal condition (electrolyte temperature = 295 K, H2SO4 = 1.0 g/L, current density = 373 A/m^(2)). In addition, the reduction mechanism was elucidated by comprehensively analyzing bubble characteristics, electrochemical reactions, and surface tension. Results showed that lower electrolyte temperature inhibited the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and compressed gas volume. Lower H2SO4 concentration inhibited the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and reduced electrolyte surface tension. Lower current density inhibited both OER and HER by decreasing the reaction current. The inhibited gas evolutions reduced the microbubbles’ number and size, thereby reducing GFPM. These results may provide energy-efficient PM reduction methods and theoretical hints of exploring cleaner PM reduction approaches for industrial electrolysis.

Glycnsisitin A:A promising bicyclic peptide against heart failure that facilitates TFRCmediated uptake of iron in cardiomyocytes

Silicon （Si） has mild discharge potential and high theoretical capacity,making it a highly desirable material for lithium-ion batteries （LIBs）.Nevertheless,the excessive volume expansion,poor ion/electron conductiv ity and unstable solid electrolyte interface （SEI） hinde practical application to ***,the metallic antimony（Sb） stabilized porous Si （SiDSb） composite was prepared by magnesiothermic reduction of Sb2O3and Mg2Si and chemical etching to remove the by-product of *** highly conductive Sb nanodots embedded in the Si liga ments promote not only the formation of conductive and stable LiF-rich SEI,but also the electron/ion transpor ability of *** to the outstanding bulk/interface stability,excellent conductivity,as well as ideal porous structure,the SiDSb electrode demonstrates a capacity of820 mAh·g-1.fter undergoing 320 turns at 1.00 mA·***,it exhibits a stable capacity of 675 m Ah·g-1.hen tested at a higher current density of 5000 m A·*** results reveal a viable solution to solve three problems at the same time,namely the poor conductivity,inferior SEI and excessive volume expansion of Si,boding well for the design of Si-based materials for high-energy LIBs.
