Results of hip resurfacing for developmental dysplasia of the hip of Crowe type Ⅰ and Ⅱ

Background Recently, the new generation of metal-on-metal total hip resurfacing arthroplasty is well known for preserving the proximal femoral bone stock, minimizing the risk of postoperative dislocation using large femoral heads, and expecting low wear of metal-on-metal articulation for longer prosthesis survival. It also has the advantage in biomechanical loading in the proximal femur. The osteoarthritis secondary to developmental dysplasia of the hip （DDH） has been the most common reason for total hip arthroplasty. Most of the patients are young and active, who require improved range of motion of the hip besides relief of the pain, even expect to resume the ability to run and jump after the joint arthroplasty, thus to be allowed an active lifestyle. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the early outcome of resurfacing arthroplasty for the mild DDH cases （Crowe type Ⅰ and Ⅱ）. Methods Between September 2005 and May 2007, twenty-one consecutive patients （twenty-six hips） with the diagnosis of osteoarthritis secondary to DDH underwent metal-on-metal resurfacing arthroplasty. The average age at the time of surgery was 46.5 years （range, 37-59 years）. Six patients （28.6%） were male and fifteen （71.4%） were female. Clinical and radiographic results were observed. The follow-up was performed at 6 weeks, 3, 6, 9 months and then yearly. Results All patients were followed for a mean of 18 months （9-29 months）. During the follow-up period no complications, such as dislocation of hip joints, infection or femoral neck fracture occurred. The clinical outcomes, as rated with the Harris hip score, improved significantly compared with the preoperative ratings. The mean postoperative Harris hip score was 90.7, compared to 35.5 preoperatively. The radiographic analysis showed that all prostheses were fixed with no radiolucencies. We report the discovery of a peculiar X-ray transient,EP240408a,by Einstein Probe （EP） and follow-up studies made with EP,Swift,NICER,GROND,ATCA and other ground-based multiwavelength *** new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescope （WXT） on board EP on April 8th,2024,manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for *** flare reached a peak flux of 3.9×10-9erg cm-2s-1in 0.5-4 ke V,～300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the *** and more precise follow-up observations by EP/FXT,Swift and NICER confirmed the finding of this new *** X-ray spectrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 ke V,with a power-law photon index varying *** X-ray light curve shows a plateau lasting for ～4 d,followed by a steep decay till becoming undetectable ～10 d after the initial *** on its temporal property and constraints from previous EP observations,an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 d is found for EP240408a,which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term *** counterparts have been found in optical and near-infrared,with the earliest observation at 17 h after the initial X-ray detection,suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these *** demonstrate that the remarkable properties of EP240408a are inconsistent with any of the transient types known so far,by comparison with,in particular,jetted tidal disruption events,gamma-ray bursts,X-ray binaries and fast blue optical *** nature of EP240408a thus remains an *** suggest that EP240408a may represent a new type of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of～10 *** detection and follow-ups of more of such objects are essential for revealing their origin.

Autophagy plays a pivotal role in diverse biological processes,including the maintenance and differentiation of neural stem cells(NSCs).Interestingly,while complete deletion of Fip200 severely impairs NSC maintenance and differentiation,inhibiting canonical autophagy via deletion of core genes,such as Atg5,Atg16l1,and Atg7,or blockade of canonical interactions between FIP200 and ATG13(designated as FIP200-4A mutant or FIP200 KI)does not produce comparable detrimental *** highlights the likely critical involvement of the non-canonical functions of FIP200,the mechanisms of which have remained ***,utilizing genetic mouse models,we demonstrated that FIP200 mediates non-canonical autophagic degradation of p62/sequestome1,primarily via TAX1BP1 in *** deletion of Tax1bp1 in fip200hGFAP conditional knock-in(cKI)mice led to NSC deficiency,resembling the fip200hGFAP conditional knockout(cKO)mouse ***,reintroducing wild-type TAX1BP1 not only restored the maintenance of NSCs derived from tax1bp1-knockout fip200hGFAP cKI mice but also led to a marked reduction in p62 aggregate ***,a TAX1BP1 mutant incapable of binding to FIP200 or NBR1/p62 failed to achieve this ***,conditional deletion of Tax1bp1 in fip200hGFAP cKO mice exacerbated NSC deficiency and p62 aggregate accumulation compared to fip200hGFAP cKO ***,these findings illustrate the essential role of the FIP200-TAX1BP1 axis in mediating the non-canonical autophagic degradation of p62 aggregates towards NSC maintenance and function,presenting novel therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases.

Long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs)are emerging as powerful regulators of adipocyte differentiation,fat metabolism and gene ***,the functional roles and mechanisms of lncRNAs in these processes remain ***,we identified a novel antisense transcript,named APMAP-AS,transcribed from adipocyte membrane-associated protein(APMAP)in the pig ***-AS and APMAP were highly expressed in retroperitoneal adipose of obese pigs,compared with that in control *** a bone mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)adipogenic differentiation model,we found that APMAP-AS positively regulated adipogenic ***-AS had the potential to form an RNA–RNA duplex with APMAP,and increased the stability of APMAP ***,APMAP-AS promoted lipid metabolism and inhibited the expression of inflammatory *** findings of a natural antisense transcript for a regulatory gene associated with lipid synthesis might further our understanding of lncRNAs in driving adaptive adipose tissue remodeling and preserving metabolic health.

Platelet count combined with right liver volume and spleen volume measured by magnetic resonance imaging for identifying cirrhosis and esophageal varices

AIM: To determine whether the combination of platelet count(PLT) with spleen volume parameters and right liver volume(RV) measured by magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) could predict the Child-Pugh class of liver cirrhosis and esophageal varices(EV).METHODS: Two hundred and five cirrhotic patients with hepatitis B and 40 healthy volunteers underwent abdominal triphasic-enhancement MRI and laboratory examination of PLT in 109/L. Cirrhotic patients underwent endoscopy for detecting EV. Spleen maximal width(W), thickness(T) and length(L) in mm together with spleen volume(SV) and RV in mm3 were measured by MRI, and spleen volume index(SI) in mm3 was obtained by W × T × L. SV/PLT, SI/PLT and RV × PLT/SV(RVPS) were calculated and statistically analyzed to assess cirrhosis and ***: SV/PLT(r = 0.676) and SI/PLT(r = 0.707) increased, and PLT(r =-0.626) and RVPS(r =-0.802) decreased with the progress of Child-Pugh class(P liver cirrhosis and identify the presence of esophageal varices.

Because of its excellent dose distribution,proton therapy is becoming increasingly popular in the medical application of cancer treatment.A synchrotron-based proton therapy facility was designed and constructed in *** synchrotron,beam delivery system,and other technical systems were commissioned and reached their expected *** a clinical trial of 47 patients was finished,the proton therapy facility obtained a registration certificate from the National Medical Products *** characteristics of the accelerator and treatment systems are described in this article.

Objective:To evaluate the effect and safety of foot baths with Tangbi Waixi Decoction(TW)in treating patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN).Methods:It is a multicenter double-blinded randomized controlled *** with DPN were recruited between November 18,2016 and May 30,2018 from 8 hospitals in *** patients received basic treatments for glycemic *** received foot baths with TW herbal granules either 66.9 g(intervention group)or 6.69 g(control group)for 30 min once a day for 2 weeks and followed by a 2-week rest,as a therapeutic *** the Toronto Clinical Scoring System total score(TCSS-TS)6 points,the patients received a total of 3 therapeutic courses(for 12 weeks)and were followed up for 12 *** primary outcome was change in TCSS-TS score at 12 and 24 *** outcomes included changes in bilateral motor nerve conduction velocity(MNCV)and sensory nerve conduction velocity(SNCV)of the median and common peroneal *** was also ***:Totally 632 patients were enrolled,and 317 and 315 were randomized to the intervention and control groups,*** the 12-week intervention,patients in both groups showed significant declines in TCSSTS scores,and significant increases in MNCV and SNCV of the median and common peroneal nerves compared with pre-treatment(P0.05),and no serious adverse event was related with ***:Treatment of TW foot baths was safe and significantly benefitted patients with DPN.A low dose of TW appeared to be more effective than a high dose.(Registry *** CTR-IOR-16009331)
