Capital flows, economic growth and the real effective exchange rate: Evidence from China

This paper examines the Granger causal relationship between capital flows and economic growth in China over the period 1998Q1–2019Q2,allowing for real effective exchange rate(REER)effects.As parameter instability tests indicate structural changes,we use bootstrap rolling window causality tests,which suggest that the causal nexus between capital flows and GDP growth is time-varying.We find that the causal links between foreign direct investments(FDIs)and GDP growth are hardly affected by the REER,whereas the REER plays a more important role in affecting the causal connections between portfolio investments and other investments and GDP growth.Our results suggest that cumulative portfolio inflows and cumulative other investment inflows harm GDP growth,whereas cumulative portfolio outflows and cumula-tive other investment outflows positively affect GDP growth.

Effects of water stress on quality and sugar metabolism in'Gala'apple fruit

Sugar plays an important role in apple fruit development,appearance and quality as well as contributing to a plant’s water stress response.Trehalose and the trehalose biosynthetic metabolic pathways are part of the sugar signaling system in plants,which are important regulator of water stress response in apple.The effect of water stress treatments applied to apple trees and the corresponding effects of ABA on developmental fruit quality were examined for indicators of fruit quality during fruit development.The results indicated that the severe water stress treatment(W2)occurring after the last stage of fruit cell division caused a decrease in the color and size of fruit.The moderate water stress(W1)occurring after the last stage of fruit cell enlargement(S2)caused an increase in the content of fructose and sorbitol while the apple fruit shape was not affected.These changes in sugar are related to the activity of sugar metabolic enzymes.While the enzymatic activity of vacuolar acid invertase(vAINV)was higher,that of sucrose-phosphate synthase(SPS)was lower in water stress treated fruit throughout the developmental period.This indicates that enhanced sucrose degradation and reduced sucrose synthesis leads to an overall reduced sucrose content during times of drought.Thus,water stress reduced sucrose content.Whereas the content of endogenous trehalose and ABA were the highest in water stress treated fruit.A moderate water stress(W1)imposed on apple trees via water restriction(60%–65%of field capacity)after the fruit cell enlargement phase of fruit development yielded sweeter fruit of higher economic value.

价格比较作为一项实用数学技能,能提升孤独症学生的社会适应能力与独立生活能力。研究采用单一被试实验中的跨被试多探测实验设计,选取三名8—10岁的孤独症学生,探索视频提示法对孤独症学生价格比较技能的干预效果。研究结果表明,干预后三名被试价格比较任务的正确率有明显提高,且干预维持效果良好,在社区超市里泛化效果良好。基于以上发现,本研究提出对未来教学实践的建议。

AbstracTthe blood-brain barrier(BBB)impairment plays a crucial role in the pathological processes of aging-accompanied neurological diseases(AAND).Meanwhile,circadian rhythms disruption and gut microbiota dysbiosis are associated with increased morbidity of neurological diseases in the accelerated aging population.Importantly,circadian rhythms disruption and gut microbiota dysbiosis are also known to induce the generation of toxic metabolites and pro-inflammatory cytokines,resulting in disruption of BBB integrity.Collectively,this provides a new perspective for exploring the relationship among circadian rhythms,gut microbes,and the BBB in aging-accompanied neurological diseases.In this review,we focus on recent advances in the interplay between circadian rhythm disturbances and gut microbiota dysbiosis,and their potential roles in the BBB disruption that occurs in AAND.Based on existing literature,we discuss and propose potential mechanisms underlying BBB damage induced by dysregulated circadian rhythms and gut microbiota,which would serve as the basis for developing potential interventions to protect the BBB in the aging population through targeting the BBB by exploiting its links with gut microbiota and circadian rhythms for treating AAND.

Type I Photoreaction and Photoinduced Ferroptosis by a Ru(II)Complex to Overcome Tumor Hypoxia in Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy(PDT)usually shows limited efficacy in solid tumors since traditional PDT is O_(2)^(-)dependent while solid tumors are inherently hypoxic.In addition,hypoxic tumor cells possess antiapoptotic pathways that resist PDT-induced apoptosis.Therefore,developing photosensitizers(PSs)that show low O_(2)^(-)dependency and can induce nonapoptotic cell death pathways is critically needed.Herein,a series of Ru(II)polypyridine complex-based PSs,RuNMe,RuH,and RuCN,were synthesized,and their applications against hypoxic tumor cells through PDT were investigated.All three complexes showthe ability to generate the superoxide anion radical(·O_(2)^(-)),which is the type I photoreaction and less O_(2)^(-)dependent.RuNMe shows the best PDT performance against MCF-7 cells and three-dimensional multicellular spheroids,due to its higher cellular uptake and more reactive oxygen species generation.More importantly,RuNMe-incubated MCF-7 cells show photoinduced ferroptosis as evidenced by glutathione peroxidase 4 downregulation and lipid peroxide accumulation.This work not only develops a novel ferroptosis-inducing Ru(II)complex with the type I PDT process but also offers an effective strategy to solve tumor hypoxia in PDT.

S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts have been the“stars”in the field of photocatalysis.Herein,a novel S-scheme heterojunction of Ta_(3)N_(5)/BiOCl with oxygen vacancies(OVs)was fabricated via a facile method.The charge separation and transport mechanism of this Ta_(3)N_(5)/BiOCl S-scheme heterojunction was verified by the analyses of band energy structures,active species,photoelectric behaviors and DFT theoretical calculation.Compared with Ta_(3)N_(5)and BiOCl,the Ta_(3)N_(5)/BiOCl unveils substantially upgraded photocatalytic property under visible light,and the photocatalytic efficiency for removal of tetracycline(TC)and hexavalent chromium(Cr(VI))reaches 89.6%and 91.6%,respectively.The substantial enhancement of the photocatalytic activity is attributed to the synergistic effect of the S-scheme hetero-structure and oxygen vacancies,which improves the visible-light absorption,while promoting the spatial separation of charge carriers with the optimum redox capacity,thereby boosting the production of active species for catalytic reactions.The TC degradation pathway is deduced and the toxicity evolution of TC is appraised using the QSAR method.In a nutshell,this work gives a deep understanding of the photocatalytic mechanism based on Ta_(3)N_(5)/BiOCl as well as presents a newfangled thought for developing highly efficient S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts for water decontamination.

E3GCAPS: Efficient EEG-Based Multi-Capsule Framework with Dynamic Attention for Cross-Subject Cognitive State Detection

Cognitive state detection using electroencephalogram(EEG)signals for various tasks has attracted significant research attention.However,it is difficult to further improve the performance of crosssubject cognitive state detection.Further,most of the existing deep learning models will degrade significantly when limited training samples are given,and the feature hierarchical relationships are ignored.To address the above challenges,we propose an efficient interpretation model based on multiple capsule networks for cross-subject EEG cognitive state detection,termed as Efficient EEG-based Multi-Capsule Framework(E3GCAPS).Specifically,we use a selfexpression module to capture the potential connections between samples,which is beneficial to alleviate the sensitivity of outliers that are caused by the individual differences of cross-subject EEG.In addition,considering the strong correlation between cognitive states and brain function connection mode,the dynamic subcapsule-based spatial attention mechanism is introduced to explore the spatial relationship of multi-channel 1D EEG data,in which multichannel 1D data greatly improving the training efficiency while preserving the model performance.The effectiveness of the E3GCAPS is validated on the Fatigue-Awake EEG Dataset(FAAD)and the SJTU Emotion EEG Dataset(SEED).Experimental results show E3GCAPS can achieve remarkable results on the EEG-based cross-subject cognitive state detection under different tasks.

Early-Holocene Paleo-Tropical Cyclone Activity Inferred from a Sedimentary Sequence in South Yellow Sea,East Asia

Although tropical cyclones play a critical role in global climate changes,their long-term variations in the past are not well documented.In this article,a sediment core from the South Yellow Sea was studied in order to reveal the influence of tropical cyclones on depositional processes.Integrating the results of radiocarbon dating and sediment grain-size analysis,we show that the studied sequence was deposited during the Holocene and the sedimentary dynamics were stable and at a relatively low level,with a median grain-size range of 5.3-8.7μm.It is found that coarse particles were likely transported by highly dynamic depositional events.Based on the findings,a record of paleo-tropical cyclones was derived for the Early Holocene,and several intervals with a reduced influence of tropical cyclones were identified.In addition,it reveals a good agreement between the grain-size results and the changes in solar activity,monsoonal intensity,and the El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation.Overall,it can be concluded that the influence of tropical cyclones on the sedimentary evolution of the muddy zone of the South Yellow Sea was substantial during the Early Holocene on centennial timescales,and that solar maxima may control the intensity of tropical cyclones via strengthening the walker circulation over the tropical Pacific.

By employing the asymmetric end-group engineering,an asymmetric nonfused-ring electron acceptor(NFREA)was designed and synthesized.Compared with the symmetric analogs(NoCA-17 and NoCA-18),NoCA-19 possesses broader light absorption range,more coplanarπ-conjugated backbone,and appropriate crystallinity according to the experimental and theoretical results.The organic solar cells based on J52:NoCA-19 exhibited a power conversion efficiency as high as 12.26%,which is much higher than those of J52:NoCA-17(9.50%)and J52:NoCA-18(11.77%),mainly due to more efficient exciton dissociation,better and balanced charge mobility,suppressed recombination loss,shorter charge extraction time,longer charge carrier lifetimes,and more favorable blend film morphology.These findings demonstrate the great potential of asymmetric end-group engineering in exploring low-cost and high-performance NFREAs.
