Background: Avian brood parasitism is a breeding strategy in which brood parasites lay their eggs in the nest of other *** behavior is closely related to aspects of the biological evolution of the parasitic species such as reduced female body size and plumage color ***,not much is known whether it is associated with the evolution of ***: We collected samples of the typical male calls of 67 species belonging to the sub?family *** the calls,we measured five acoustic parameters for each samples to test the differences in vocal structures between parasitic and nonparasitic *** control for potential phylogenetic effects,we also performed phylogenetic independent contrast ***: We found that vocal structures were relatively similar among the parasitic species with a tendency to simple and low?frequency *** addition,harmonic structures were observed more frequently in the nonparasitic ***: Overall,these results support the idea that brood parasitic behavior with associated ecological condi?tions may play a role in vocal evolution,a better understanding of which may greatly improve our knowledge of vocal diversification in non?oscine birds.

The demand for multifunctional neural interfaces has grown due to the need to provide a better understanding of biological mechanisms related to neurological diseases and neural *** intracerebral drug injection using microfluidic neural interfaces is an effective way to deliver drugs to the brain,and it expands the utility of drugs by bypassing the blood-brain barrier(BBB).In addition,uses of implantable neural interfacing devices have been challenging due to inevitable acute and chronic tissue responses around the electrodes,pointing to a critical issue still to be *** neural interfaces comprised of a collection of microneedles in an array have been used for various applications,it has been challenging to integrate microfluidic channels with them due to their characteristic three-dimensional structures,which differ from two-dimensionally fabricated shank-type neural *** we present a method to provide such three-dimensional needle-type arrays with chemical delivery *** fabricated a microfluidic interconnection cable(pFIC)and integrated it with a flexible penetrating microelectrode array(FPMA)that has a 3-dimensional structure comprised of silicon microneedle electrodes supported by a flexible array *** successfully demonstrated chemical delivery through the developed device by recording neural signals acutely from in vivo brains before and after KCl *** suggests the potential of the developed microfluidic neural interface to contribute to neuroscience research by providing simultaneous signal recording and chemical delivery capabilities.

Free fatty acids(FFAs), which are elevated with metabolic syndrome, are considered the principal offender exerting lipotoxicity. Few previous studies have reported a causal relationship between FFAs and osteoarthritis pathogenesis. However, the molecular mechanism by which FFAs exert lipotoxicity and induce osteoarthritis remains largely unknown. We here observed that oleate at the usual clinical range does not exert lipotoxicity while oleate at high pathological ranges exerted lipotoxicity through apoptosis in articular chondrocytes. By investigating the differential effect of oleate at toxic and nontoxic concentrations, we revealed that lipid droplet(LD) accumulation confers articular chondrocytes, the resistance to lipotoxicity. Using high fat diet-induced osteoarthritis models and articular chondrocytes treated with oleate alone or oleate plus palmitate, we demonstrated that articular chondrocytes gain resistance to lipotoxicity through protein kinase casein kinase 2(PKCK2)—six-transmembrane protein of prostate 2(sTAMP2)—and fat-specific protein 27(FsP27)-mediated LD accumulation. We further observed that the exertion of FFAs-induced lipotoxicity was correlated with the increased concentration of cellular FFAs freed from LDs, whether FFAs are saturated or not. In conclusion, PKCK2/sTAMP2/FsP27-mediated sequestration of FFAs in LD rescues osteoarthritic chondrocytes. PKCK2/sTAMP2/FsP27 should be considered for interventions against metabolic OA.

In this paper, we propose a multi-source multi-path video streaming system for supporting high quality concurrent video-on-demand (VoD) services over wireless mesh networks (WMNs), and leverage forward error correction to enhance the error resilience of the system. By taking wireless interference into consideration, we present a more realistic networking model to capture the characteristics of WMNs and then design a route selection scheme using a joint rate/interference-distortion optimiza- tion framework to help the system optimally select concurrent streaming paths. We mathematically formulate such a route selec- tion problem, and solve it heuristically using genetic algorithm. simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.

Recently, there has been an increased recognition of neoplasms of the pancreas other than ductal adenocarcinorna. Although not as well studied or characterized as pancreatic adenocarcinorna there are many distinct lesions which exhibit diverse biological behaviors and varying degrees of malignancy. These lesions include： endocrine neoplasms, cystic tumors, solid pseudopapillary tumors, acinar cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, primary lymphoma of the pancreas, and metastatic lesions to the pancreas. These less common neoplasms are being diagnosed more frequently as the number and sensitivity of diagnostic imaging studies increase. This review article discusses the clinical course, diagnosis, and treatment of these less common, but quite relevant, neoplasms of the pancreas.

Machining characteristics of complex prism pattern on electroplated roll by copper

The BLU (back light unit) is the core component of the LCD for notebook, mobile-phone, navigation, as well as large sized TV, PID (public information display), etc. In order to enhance optical efficiency of LCD, optical films with the uniform prism patterns have been used for BLU by stacking two films up orthogonally. In this case, light interference-phenomenon occurred such as Morie, wet-out, u-turning, etc. It caused several problems such as low brightness, spots and stripes in LCD. Recently, the high-luminance micro complex prism patterns are actively studied to avoid the light interference-phenomenon and enhance the optical efficiency. In this study, the roll master to manufacture complex micro prism pattern film was machined by using the high precision lathe. The machined patterns on the roll master were 50, 45, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10 and 5 μm in the pitch with 25.0, 22.5, 20.0, 17.5, 15.0, 12.5, 10.0, 7.5, 5.0 and 2.5 μm in the peak height, respectively. The roll was 2 000 mm in length and 320 mm in diameter. The electroplated roll by copper and the natural single crystal diamond tool was used for machining the patterns. The cutting force was measured and analyzed for each cutting condition by using the dynamometer. The chips and the surfaces after being machined were analyzed by sEM and microscope.
