Visualizing light-induced dynamic structural transformations of Au clusters-based photocatalyst via in situ TEM

Ultrasmall gold(Au)clusters have been regarded as one of the prototypes materials for solar energy conversion due to their unique strong molecular-like light absorption ***,the light-induced aggregation of Au clusters into nanoparticles is one of the most important factors that restricts its application in *** Au clusters aggregation has been widely demonstrated,the underlying mechanism for cluster fusion is still unclear due to the lack of experimental ***,we report the direct observation of Au clusters on TiO_(2) nanosheets aggregating when used as visible light photocatalysts for the reduction of *** in situ high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(TEM),the coexistence of two fusion mechanisms of Au clusters on TiO_(2) under ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)light irradiation in air is identified,i.e.,the migration and coalescence(MC)and Ostwald ripening(OR).Additionally,the correlation between the photostability of Au clusters and reaction atmospheres has been investigated,among which Au clusters have higher stability in an inert N_(2) atmosphere or vacuum than the oxidizing atmospheres(i.e.,air and O_(2)).These results indicate the inherent stability of Au cluster during photocatalysis,and instability comes from the consuming of ligand *** work not only discloses the underlying mechanism of Au cluster sintering but also provides guidelines for enhancing metal clusters-based photocatalysts stability.

Ionizing radiation is one of the most effective tools in cancer therapy. In a previous study, we reported that protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) inhibitors modulate the radiation responses in the human chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cell line K562. The receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, genistein, delayed radiation-induced cell death, while non-recepter tyrosine kinase inhibitor, herbimycin A (HMA) enhances radiation-induced apoptosis. In this study, we focused on the modulation of radiation-induced cell death by genistein and performed PCR-select suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) to understand its molecular mechanism. We identified human thymidine kinase 1 (TK1), which is cell cycle regulatory gene and confirmed expression of TK1 mRNA by Northern blot analysis. Expression of TKl mRNA and TK1 enzymatic activity were parallel in their increase and decrease. TK1 is involved in G1-S phase transition of cell cycle progression. The numerical simulation of the self-propelled motion of a fish with a pair of rigid pectoral fins is presented.A Navier-Stokes equation solver incorporating with the multi-block and overset grid method is developed to deal with the multi-body and moving body *** lift-based swimming mode is selected for the fin *** the lift-based swimming mode,the fin can generate great thrust and at the same time have no generation of lift *** can be found when a pair of rigid pectoral fins generates the hydrodynamic moment,it may also generate a lateral force opposite to the centripetal direction,which has adverse effect on the turn motion of the ***,the periodic vortex structure generation and shedding,and their effects on the generation of hydrodynamic force are also demonstrated in this article.

Grouping response method for equivalent static wind loads based on a modified LRC method

Wind loading is one of the most important loads for controlling the design of large-span roof structures. Equivalent static wind loads, which can generally aim at determining a specific response, are widely used by structural designers. A method for equivalent static wind loads applicable to multi-responses is proposed in this paper. A modified load- response-correlation （LRC） method corresponding to a particular peak response is presented, and the similarity algorithm implemented for the group response is described. The main idea of the algorithm is that two responses can be put into one group if the value of one response is close to that of the other response, when the structure is subjected to equivalent static wind loads aiming at the other response. based on the modified LRC, the grouping response method is put forward to construct equivalent static wind loading. This technique can simultaneously reproduce peak responses for some grouped responses. To verify its computational accuracy, the method is applied to an actual large-span roof structure. Calculation results show that when the similarity of responses in the same group is high, equivalent static wind loads with high accuracy and reasonable magnitude of equivalent static wind distribution can be achieved.

Effect of algal flocculation on dissolved organic matters using cationic starch modified soils

Modified soils（MSs） are being increasingly used as geo-engineering materials for the sedimentation removal of cyanobacterial blooms. Cationic starch（CS） has been tested as an effective soil modifier, but little is known about its potential impacts on the treated *** study investigated dissolved organic matters in the bloom water after algal removal using cationic starch modified soils（CS-MSs）. Results showed that the dissolved organic carbon（DOC） could be decreased by CS-MS flocculation and the use of higher charge density CS yielded a greater DOC reduction. When CS with the charge density of 0.052, 0.102 and0.293 meq/g were used, DOC was decreased from 3.4 to 3.0, 2.3 and 1.7 mg/L, *** excitation–emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy and UV254 analysis indicated that CS-MS exhibits an ability to remove some soluble organics, which contributed to the DOC reduction. However, the use of low charge density CS posed a potential risk of DOC increase due to the high CS loading for effective algal removal. When CS with the charge density of 0.044 meq/g was used, DOC was increased from 3.4 to 3.9 mg/L. This study suggested, when CS-MS is used for cyanobacterial bloom removal, the content of dissolved organic matters in the treated water can be controlled by optimizing the charge density of CS. For the settled organic matters, other measures（e.g., capping treatments using oxygen loaded materials） should be jointly applied after algal flocculation.

Ibuprofen(IbU)is widely used in the world as anti-inflammatory drug,which posed health risk to the environment.A bacterium capable of degrading IbU was isolated from activated sludge in a sewage treatment *** to its morphological,physiologic,and biochemical characteristics,as well as 16S rRNA sequence analysis,the strain was identified as Serratia marcescens bL1(bL1).Degradation of IbU required the presence of primary *** a five-day cultivation with yeast powder at 30℃ and pH 7,the highest degradation(93.47%2.37%)was *** process of bL1 degrading IbU followed first-order reaction *** bL1 strain was applied to a small biological aerated filter(bAF)device to form a biofilm with activated *** removal by the bAF was consistent with the results of static *** removal of IbU was 32.01% to 44.04% higher than for a bAF without *** indigenous bacterial community was able to effectively remove CODMn(permanganate index)and ammonia nitrogen in the presence of bL1.

LATITUDINAL VARIATION OF DEEP SCATTERING LAYER IN THE WESTERN PACIFIC

The acoustic Echo Intensity (EI) was recorded with 38k shipborne AcousticDoppler Current Profiler (AD-CP) in the Western Pacific in four cruises between Sept. 2001 and Oct.2002. The main Deep Scattering Layer (DSL) was observed at 400m-600 m depth in the four cruises. Thelatitudinal variation of the main DSL, which has high level of back-scatter strength (bS) at highlatitude, is prominent during both nighttime and daytime. The influences of environmental conditionson the DSL are discussed. Since high-oxygen water in the north is a friendly environment of marineanimals which form the main DSL, more animals are expected to aggregate in the 400dbars-600dbarslayer in the north. Dissolved Oxygen (DO) is the principal factor that causes the main DSL to varywith latitude, and its spatial distributions result from formation and transport of North PacificIntermediate Water (NPIW).

Selected-Mapping Peak-to-Average Power Reduction Method with Orthogonal Pilot Sequences in Underwater Acoustic OFDM System Without Side Information

A novel Selected-mapping(SLM) Peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) reduction scheme requires no Side information(SI) in Underwater acoustic(UWA)OFDM system is proposed. In the proposed scheme,every distinct phase sequence is represented by a unique Orthogonal comb pilot sequence(OPS), and the orthogonal properties of the OPSs are used to distinguish the index of phase sequences at the receiver. Therefore, the proposed scheme does not need to reserve bits for transmitting SI,so that the data rate can be raised. Simulation results show that the PAPR reduction performance has almost 0.5 d b gains comparing to the Conventional SLM(C-SLM)scheme and the bit error ratio(bER) performance is approximately the same as the SLM scheme with perfect SI. Field experimental results also demonstrate that the proposed scheme can differentiate phase sequences,therefore significantly enhance the quality of the UWA OFDM communication system.

Theoretical Studies on the Isomerization of Peroxynitrite to Nitrate Mediated by Peroxynitrous Acid

The conversion of peroxynitrite （ONOO-） to nitrate （NO3-） mediated by peroxynitrous acid （ONOOH） has been investigated at the CCSD/6-311G（d）//b3LYP/6-31 1＋G（d,p） level. Two kinds of pathways for the title reaction were found. The results show that the energy barrier of isomerization through pathway 1 is around 25 kcal/mol in the gas phase. This value is significantly lower than that of isomerization without any catalysts. Thus, it indicates that ONOOH definitely makes the conversion from ONOO- to NO3- feasible. Although pathway 2 does not decrease the energy barrier of this isomerization, peroxynitric acid （O2NOOH） was obtained; moreover, this is a new pathway for this formation. In view of the results that peroxynitrate anion can decompose into nitrite and dioxygen, we conclude that our results are consistent with the experimental observation that nitrate, nitrite, and dioxygen are the main final products of the decay of peroxynitrite around pH 7.
