Lung tumors represent a major health impact globally. Pulmonary cryoablation treatment as a palliative measure for patients with non-operable pulmonary lesions has gained popularity over the last decade. With increasing case load and patients medical status becoming more complex, preparation for pulmonary cryoablation requires the implementation of an enhanced perioperative anesthetic plan. Current literature as well as our institutional experience shows that this patient population presents with multiple comorbidities raising the challenge of providing anesthetic care. These procedures are done under challenging conditions with limited resources and in remote locations in the hospital. A team approach by the anesthesiologist, thoracic surgeon, and interventional radiologist is critical to the success of this treatment. The present review examines our institution’s anesthetic management of percutaneous cryoablation treatment (PCT) in the treatment of non-operable lung cancer and metastases. The objective of this article is to review the current literature guidelines and to discuss our retrospective institutional experience in anesthesia management of PCT procedures.

Agrobacterium tumefaciens is an important tool in plant biotechnology due to its natural ability to transfer DNA into the genomes of host *** manipulations of *** have yielded considerable advances in increasing transformational efficiency in a number of plant species and ***,there is overwhelming evidence that modulating the expression of various mediators of *** virulence can lead to more successful plant transformation;thus,the application of synthetic biology to enable targeted engineering of the bacterium may enable new opportunities for advancing plant *** this review,we highlight engineering targets in both *** and plant hosts that could be exploited more effectively through precision genetic control to generate high-quality transformation events in a wider range of host *** then further discuss the current state of *** and plant engineering with regard to plant transformation and describe how future work may incorporate a rigorous synthetic biology approach to tailor strains of *** used in plant transformation.

The Japanese quail(Coturnix japonica) are popular both as an alternative protein source and as a model of choice for scientific research in several disciplines. There is limited published information on the histological features of the intestinal tract of Japanese quail. The only comprehensive reference is a book published in 1969. This study aims to fill that niche by providing a reference of general histological features of the Japanese quail, covering all the main sections of the intestinal tract. Both light and scanning electron microscope(SEM) images are presented. Results showed that the Japanese quail intestinal tract is very similar to that of the chicken with the exception of the luminal koilin membrane of the gizzard. Scanning electron microscopic photomicrographs show that in the Japanese quail koilin vertical rods are tightly packed together in a uniform manner making a carpet-like appearance. This differs in chicken where the conformations of vertical rods are arranged in clusters.

Airborne particulates play a central role in both the earth’s radiation balance and as a trigger for a wide range of health impacts. Air quality monitors are placed in networks across many cities glob-ally. Typically these provide at best a few recording locations per city. However, large spatial var-iability occurs on the neighborhood scale. This study sets out to comprehensively characterize a full size distribution from 0.25 - 32 μm of airborne particulates on a fine spatial scale (meters). The data are gathered on a near daily basis over the month of May, 2014 in a 100 km2 area encompassing parts of Richardson, and Garland, TX. Wind direction was determined to be the dominant factor in classifying the data. The highest mean PM2.5 concentration was 14.1 ± 5.7 μg·m-3 corresponding to periods when the wind was out of the south. The lowest PM2.5 concentrations were observed after several consecutive days of rainfall. The rainfall was found to not only “cleanse” the air, leaving a mean PM2.5 concentration as low as 3.0 ± 0.5 μg·m-3, but also leave the region with a more uniform PM2.5 concentration. Variograms were used to determine an appropriate spatial scale for future sensor placement to provide measurements on a neighborhood scale and found that the spatial scales varied, depending on the synoptic weather pattern, from 0.8 km to 5.2 km, with a typical length scale of 1.6 km.

Ancient fish weir technology for modern stewardship: lessons from community-based salmon monitoring

High power pulse magnetron Sputtering （HPPMS） is a very important advancement in sputtering technology because it produces a high degree of ionization of the sputtered material by applying a very high power pulse of electrical energy to the sputtering target for a short period of time. A variation of the HPPMS process is modulated pulse power （MPP） sputtering, and it applies a multi-step high power pulse to the sputtering target for times longer than the single step HPPMS process. MPP also produces a high degree of ionization of the sputtered material, but it can do so without a reduction in the sputtering rate that is observed with the conventional HPPMS process. MPP can also lead to deposition rates higher than the DC sputtering rate for an equivalent amount of applied power.

Introduction:The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples states that indigenous people have a fundamental right to contribute to the management of the resources that support their *** are vital to the economy and culture of First Nations in coastal British Columbia,*** this region,traditional systems of management including weirs-fences built across rivers to selectively harvest salmon-supported sustainable fisheries for *** the late-19th century traditional fishing practices were banned as colonial goverments consolidated control over ***:In collaboration with the Hei ltsuk First Nation we revived the practice of weir building in the Koeye *** the first four years of the project we tagged 1,226 sockeye,and counted 8,036 fish during fall stream *** used a mark-recapture model which accounted for both pre-spawn mortality due to variation in temperature,and tag loss,to produce the first mark-resight estimates of sockeye abundance in the watershed(4,600-15,000 escapement).Discussion:High river temperatures are associated with increased en route morality in migrating adult *** estimated pre-spawn mortality ranged from 8-72%across the four years of study,highlighting the degree to which climate conditions may dictate future viability in sockeye salmon *** results demonstrate the power of fusing traditional knowledge and management systems with contemporary scientific approaches in developing local monitoring.

Arsenic contamination of global water supplies has come to the forefront in policy decisions in recent decades. However, the effects of arsenic on lower trophic levels of insects inhabiting contaminated ecosystems are not well understood. One approach to document both acute and sublethal effects of toxicants like arsenic is to assay them in combination with microbial pathogens to evaluate shifts in survival curves of the test organisms. Larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus and Culex tarsalis were reared in water containing 0 or 1 000μg/L of arsenate or arsenite. Fourth instars were then exposed to a range of doses of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp, israelensis （Bti） or Lysinibacillus sphaericus （Ls）, with shifts in lethal concentrations determined. Arsenic accumulation in 4th instars was also quantified, and a relative growth index （RGI） calculated for the treatments and compared to controls. Larvae of both species accumulated between 4 447 ± 169 ng As/g and 6 983 4- 367 ng As/g, though RGI values indicated accumulation did not affect growth and development. In all cases, the LC50＇s and LC90＇s of Cx. quinquefasciatus exposed jointly with arsenic and Bti/Ls were higher than Cx. tarsafis. Cx. tarsafis reared in arsenite showed a significant reduction in their Bti LC90 values compared to the control, indicating a sublethal effect of Bti. When exposed jointly with Ls, arsenite was more toxic than arsenate in Cx. tarsalis. Overall, these results indicate tolerance of these Culex species to arsenic exposures, and why this may occur is discussed.

Miniature fluorescence microscopes are a standard tool in systems ***,widefield miniature microscopes capture only 2D information,and modifications that enable 3D capabilities increase the size and weight and have poor resolution outside a narrow depth ***,we achieve the 3D capability by replacing the tube lens of a conventional 2D Miniscope with an optimized multifocal phase mask at the objective’s aperture *** the phase mask at the aperture stop significantly reduces the size of the device,and varying the focal lengths enables a uniform resolution across a wide depth *** phase mask encodes the 3D fluorescence intensity into a single 2D measurement,and the 3D volume is recovered by solving a sparsity-constrained inverse *** provide methods for designing and fabricating the phase mask and an efficient forward model that accounts for the fieldvarying aberrations in miniature *** demonstrate a prototype that is 17mm tall and weighs 2.5 grams,achieving 2.76μm lateral,and 15μm axial resolution across most of the 900×700×390μm^(3) volume at 40 volumes per *** performance is validated experimentally on resolution targets,dynamic biological samples,and mouse brain *** with existing miniature single-shot volume-capture implementations,our system is smaller and lighter and achieves a more than 2×better lateral and axial resolution throughout a 10×larger usable depth *** microscope design provides single-shot 3D imaging for applications where a compact platform matters,such as volumetric neural imaging in freely moving animals and 3D motion studies of dynamic samples in incubators and lab-on-a-chip devices.
