Heterosis effect for larval performance of fall armyworm interstrain hybrids

Spodoptera frugiperda,also known as fall armyworm(FAW),is an invasive crop pest that can feed on a variety of host plants,posing a serious threat to food *** are two sympatric strains of FAW that are morphologically identical but described with different food preferences:the“rice strain”(SfR)and the“corn strain”(SfC).A few genetic loci exist to identify these two *** and Z-chromosome-linked haplotypes are the most used,but the biggest part of the genome displays little polymorphism between strains that could explain their adaptation to different *** have previously observed consistent transcription differences between the strains in both laboratory and natural ***,we wonder if there are effects from host-strain-associated loci,maternally or paternally inherited,on FAW performance that could explain the divergence between the two FAW *** test this hypothesis,we first produced two F1 hybrid generations(SfR♀×SfC♂,SfC♀×SfR♂).These reciprocal hybrids should be heterozygous for all chromosomes except for the maternally inherited mitochondrial and sexual W *** evaluate whether plant preference is determined by these genetic loci,we cultivated the two hybrids and the two parental strains in triplicate on an artificial diet and recorded several phenotypic traits such as weight over time,survival rate,emerging rate,developmental time,and sex ***,the same performance experiment was carried out on corn ***,on the artificial diet,the two hybrid genotypes were both more performant than the two parental strains in terms of survival rate,pupal emerging rate,and developmental time,whereas they were intermediate to the inbred parental strains in pupal *** the corn plant diet,both hybrid genotypes outperformed the two parental strains in larval *** these asymmetrical results revealed that mitochondrial or sex-linked haplotypes alone cannot explain the performance differences

Machine learning(ML)provides a new surrogate method for investigating groundwater flow dynamics in unsaturated *** pure data-driven methods(*** neural network,dNN)can provide rapid predictions,but they do require sufficient on-site data for accurate training,and lack interpretability to the physical processes within the *** this paper,we provide a physics and equalityconstrained artificial neural network(PECANN),to derive unsaturated infiltration solutions with a small amount of initial and boundary *** takes the physics-informed neural network(PINN)as a foundation,encodes the unsaturated infiltration physical laws(*** equation,RE)into the loss function,and uses the augmented Lagrangian method to constrain the learning process of the solutions of RE by adding stronger penalty for the initial and boundary *** unsaturated infiltration cases are designed to test the training performance of PECANN,***-dimensional(1d)steady-state unsaturated infiltration,1d transient-state infiltration,two-dimensional(2d)transient-state infiltration,and 1d coupled unsaturated infiltration and *** predicted results of PECANN are compared with the finite difference solutions or analytical *** results indicate that PECANN can accurately capture the variations of pressure head during the unsaturated infiltration,and present higher precision and robustness than dNN and *** is also revealed that PECANN can achieve the same accuracy as the finite difference method with fewer initial and boundary training ***,we investigate the effect of the hyperparameters of PECANN on solving RE *** provides an effective tool for simulating unsaturated infiltration.

The presence of excessive reactive oxygen species(Ros)at a skin wound site is an important factor affecting wound *** scavenging,which regulates the ROS microenvironment,is essential for wound *** this study,we used novel electrospun PCL/gelatin/arbutin(PCL/G/A)nanofibrous membranes as wound dressings,with PCL/gelatin(PCL/G)as the backbone,and plantderived arbutin(hydroquinone-β-d-glucopyranoside,ARb)as an effective antioxidant that scavenges ROos and inhibits bacterial infection in *** loading of ARb increased the mechanical strength of the nanofibres,with a water vapour transmission rate of more than 2500g/(m^(2)×24h),and the water contact angle decreased,indicating that hydrophilicity and air permeability were significantly *** release and degradation experiments showed that the nanofibre membrane controlled the drug release and exhibited favourable *** experiments showed that the PCL/G/A nanofibre membranes were biocompatible,and dPPH and AbTS+radical scavenging experiments indicated that PCL/G/A could effectively scavenge ROS to reflect the antioxidant *** addition,haemostasis experiments showed that PCL/G/A had good haemostatic effects in vitro and in *** vivo animal wound closure and histological staining experiments demonstrated that PCL/G/A increased collagen deposition and remodelled epithelial tissue regeneration while showing good in vivo biocompatibility and *** conclusion,we successfully prepared a multifunctional wound dressing,PCL/G/A,for skin wound healing and investigated its potential role in wound healing,which is beneficial for the clinical translational application of phytomedicines.

Climate change alters snowpack evolution,which in turn influences the likelihood of snow avalanches and flood *** lack of systemic observational data on key snow characteristics in high mountains remains a scientific challenge in terms of systematically elucidating the dynamic chain of variations in climate-snowpack-snow *** restricts our understanding and poses challenges in the prediction of snow-related disaster *** such,this study analysed the variations of temperature and snowfall and the physical characteristics of snowpacks based on ground-based observations from the Kunse River Valley situated in the Tianshan Mountains from 1967 to *** results reveal that the temperature increased significantly by 0.32°C per decade(pduring the snow season,along with more extreme snowfall *** snow-cover duration was observed to have been shortened by 4.77 d per decade(pwhich is characterised by later snow-cover onset and earlier ***,average and maximum snow depths increased along with an increase in peak snow water equivalent,thus indicating a higher frequency of extremely scarce or abundant snow *** low snowpack temperature gradient and earlier snowmelt dates in spring lead to earlier occurrences of snowmelt floods and wet *** the risks of these events increase,they pose greater threats to farmlands,road transportation,water-electricity infrastructure and several other human ***,these insights are critical for providing vital information that can deepen our understanding of the impact of climate change on snowpack characteristics and improve management strategies for snow-related disaster prevention and mitigation.

Learning archives management in traditional systems faces challenges such as inadequate security,weak tamper resistance,and limited sharing *** address these issues,this paper proposes LRChain,a method based on consortium blockchain,for lifelong learning archives data protection and *** employs a combination of on-chain and off-chain cooperative storage using a consortium chain and inter planetary file system(IPFS)to enhance data security and *** also enables fine-grained verification of learning archives through selective disclosure principles,ensuring privacy protection of sensitive ***,an attributebased encryption(AbE)algorithm is utilized to establish authorized access control for learning archives,facilitating safe and trusted *** evaluations and security analyses demonstrate that this method exhibits decentralization,strong security,tamper resistance,and performs well,effectively meeting the requirements for secure sharing of learning archive data.
