A vehicle-mounted dual-smog chamber:Characterization and its preliminary application to evolutionary simulation of photochemical processes in a quasi-realistic atmosphere

Smog chambers are the effective tools for studying formation mechanisms of air pollution.Simulations by traditional smog chambers differ to a large extent from real atmospheric conditions,including light,temperature and atmospheric composition.However,the existing parameters for mechanism interpretation are derived from the traditional smog chambers.To address the gap between the traditional laboratory simulations and the photochemistry in the real atmosphere,a vehicle-mounted indoor-outdoor dual-smog chamber(JNUVMDSC)was developed,which can be quickly transferred to the desired sites to simulate quasi-realistic atmosphere simultaneously in both chambers using“local air”.Multiple key parameters of the smog chamber were characterized in the study,demonstrating that JNUVMDSC meets the requirements of general atmospheric chemistry simulation studies.Additionally,the preliminary results for the photochemical simulations of quasi-realistic atmospheres in Pearl River Delta region and Nanling Mountains are consistent with literature reports on the photochemistry in this region.JNU-VMDSC provides a convenient and reliable experimental device and means to study the mechanism of atmospheric photochemical reactions to obtain near-real results,and will make a great contribution to the control of composite air pollution.

Catalase promotes whitefly adaptation to high temperature by eliminating reactive oxygen species

Thermal stress usually leads to excessive production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)in all aerobic organisms.Catalases(CAT)are the key antioxidant enzymes,which act as the first line of defense against ROS in the antioxidant pathway.The highly invasive and widely distributed whitefly Bemisia tabaci MED damages plants by feeding as well as by transmitting many plant viruses.Previous studies have shown that strong adaptability to high temperature helps explain the spread of MED around the world.However,the mechanism underlying high temperature adaptation of this pest is not well understood.In this study,6 CAT genes were identified from the MED genome and transcriptome dataset,among which BtCAT1,BtCAT2,and BtCAT3 were found to be highly expressed in adults.The expression of BtCAT1,BtCAT2,or BtCAT3 increased with induction temperature and induction time.The MED was exposed with mean high temperature(30℃ or 35℃)and a short-term extremely high temperature(39℃ or 41℃)after the silencing of BtCAT1,BtCAT2,or BtCAT3 to significantly increased ROS levels by at least 0.5 times and significantly decreased survival rate and fecundity of MED adults.The ROS level in the treated specimens gradually returned to a normal level after 24 h at 25℃,but the survival rate still declined significantly.Taken together,our results demonstrate that CAT could help B.tabaci adapt to long-term mean high temperatures and short-term extremely high temperatures by eliminating excessive ROS.

A novel three-component strategy for the azidotrifluoromethylation of alkenes has been presented here.The reaction proceeded smoothly under gentle temperature and gave the bifunctional olefins in high yields.Furthermore,1,3-dipolar reactions between azide-containing products and phenylacetylene revealed great potential in molecular modification by using this method.

采用溶剂助溶乳化法制备了马来松香甘油酯(MAP-DG)乳液,比较了十二烷基硫酸钠(SDS)、烷基酚聚氧乙烯醚(OP-10)和羧基化纳米纤维素(CNF-C)乳化MAP-DG乳液的粒径分布和稳定性。采用双道涂布的方式,机械浆纳米纤维素(CNF)和沉淀碳酸钙(PCC)作为第一道涂布,MAP-DG乳液作为第二道涂布,构建了超疏水性纸张。MAP-DG的最佳合成工艺条件为:m(马来松香)∶m(甘油)=1∶3,引发剂(偶氮二异丁腈)用量为0.40%(以马来松香质量为基准,下同),催化剂(纳米ZnO)用量为2.0%(以马来松香质量为基准,下同),在250℃下反应4 h。CNF-C作为乳化剂,制备的MAP-DG乳液平均粒径达到527 nm,在室温下静置90 d不破乳和分层。双层涂布制备的PCC/CNF/MAP-DG涂布纸与水的接触角为159.1°,表面吸水量(Cobb值)为2.4 g/m^(2),经过200次对折后仍具有超强的疏水性能,并且耐酸碱水溶液,具有良好的化学稳定性。纸张的超疏水性源于微米-纳米双级结构间滞留的空气对水滴的托举,在纸张纤维表面形成致密的疏水层。

Flexible Load Participation in Peaking Shaving and Valley Filling Based on Dynamic Price Incentives

Considering the widening of the peak-valley difference in the power grid and the difficulty of the existing fixed time-of-use electricity price mechanism in meeting the energy demand of heterogeneous users at various moments or motivating users,the design of a reasonable dynamic pricing mechanism to actively engage users in demand response becomes imperative for power grid companies.For this purpose,a power grid-flexible load bilevel model is constructed based on dynamic pricing,where the leader is the dispatching center and the lower-level flexible load acts as the follower.Initially,an upper-level day-ahead dispatching model for the power grid is established,considering the lowest power grid dispatching cost as the objective function and incorporating the power grid-side constraints.Then,the lower level comprehensively considers the load characteristics of industrial load,energy storage,and data centers,and then establishes a lower-level flexible load operation model with the lowest user power-consuming cost as the objective function.Finally,the proposed method is validated using the IEEE-118 system,and the findings indicate that the dynamic pricing mechanism for peaking shaving and valley filling can effectively guide users to respond actively,thereby reducing the peak-valley difference and decreasing users’purchasing costs.

PCK1 attenuates tumor stemness via activating the Hippo signaling pathway in hepatocellular carcinoma

Liver cancer stem cells were found to rely on glycolysis as the preferred metabolic program.Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase 1(PCK1),a gluconeogenic metabolic enzyme,is down-regulated in hepatocellular carcinoma and is closely related to poor prognosis.The onco-genesis and progression of tumors are closely related to cancer stem cells.It is not completely clear whether the PCK1 deficiency increases the stemness of hepatoma cells and promotes the oncogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma.Herein,the results showed that PCK1 inhibited the self-renewal property of hepatoma cells,reduced the mRNA level of cancer stem cell markers,and inhibited tumorigenesis.Moreover,PCK1 increased the sensitivity of hepatocellular carci-noma cells to sorafenib.Furthermore,we found that PCK1 activated the Hippo pathway by enhancing the phosphorylation of YAP and inhibiting its nuclear translocation.Verteporfin reduced the stemness of hepatoma cells and promoted the pro-apoptotic effect of sorafenib.Thus,combined treatment with verteporfin and sorafenib may be a potential anti-tumor strat-egy in hepatocellular carcinoma.

A recent study published in Molecular Psychiatry proposes a cellular mechanism that may contribute to decreased insulin production in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).1 Using a combination of cell culture experiments,animal models and studies in T2DM patients,the authors show that an up-regulation of tau inβ-islet cells can inhibit pancreatic insulin secretion through changes in microtubule assembly.

Dear Editor,This letter studies the input-to-state stability(ISS)for a class of impulsive switched systems,where uncertain impulse-switching moments are involved.The robustness of ISS with respect to the perturbations of the occurrence time of impulse-switching moments is revealed by several less conservative dwell-time conditions for the uncertain impulse-switching moments combined with Lyapunov conditions.Moreover,the Lyapunov conditions have multiple coefficients at discrete time so as to handle the hybrid effect of impulse-switching moments,and the case that time derivative of Lyapunov function is indefinite is also taken into account.Finally,a numerical example is proposed to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

A Novel Defender-Attacker-Defender Model for Resilient Distributed Generator Planning with Network Reconfiguration and Demand Response

To improve the resilience of a distribution system against extreme weather,a fuel-based distributed generator(DG)allocation model is proposed in this study.In this model,the DGs are placed at the planning stage.When an extreme event occurs,the controllable generators form temporary microgrids(MGs)to restore the load maximally.Simultaneously,a demand response program(DRP)mitigates the imbalance between the power supply and demand during extreme events.To cope with the fault uncertainty,a robust optimization(RO)method is applied to reduce the long-term investment and short-term operation costs.The optimization is formulated as a tri-level defenderattacker-defender(DAD)framework.At the first level,decision-makers work out the DG allocation scheme;at the second level,the attacker finds the optimal attack strategy with maximum damage;and at the third level,restoration measures,namely distribution network reconfiguration(DNR)and demand response are performed.The problem is solved by the nested column and constraint generation(NC&CG)method and the model is validated using an IEEE 33-node system.Case studies validate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed model according to the enhanced resilience and reduced cost.

Coastal and estuarine protists are frequently exposed to salinity undulation.While the tolerance and stress responses of microalgae to salinity have been extensively studied,there have been scarce studies on the physiological response of heterotrophic protists to salinity stressing.In this study,we investigated the physiological response of the heterotrophic ciliate Gastrostyla setifera to a salinity of 3,via a transcriptomic approach.The first transcriptome of genus Gastrostyla was obtained utilizing a group of manually isolated ciliate individuals(cells)and RNA-seq technique.The completeness of the transcriptome was verified.Differentially expressed gene(DEG)analysis was performed among the transcriptomes of G.setifera acclimated in saline water(salinity 3)and those cultured in fresh water.The results demonstrated a significant alternation in gene transcription,in which the ciliate exhibits a transcripttomic acclimation in responding salinity stressing.The up-regulated DEGs were enriched in the pathways of cytoskeleton proteins,membrane trafficking,protein kinases and protein phosphatases.These may represent enhanced functions of ion transport,stress response and cell protections.Pathways involved in energy metabolism and biosynthesis were markedly down-regulated,reflecting decreased cell activity.Particularly,we detected significantly down-regulated genes involved in several pathways of amino acid catabolism,which may lead to accumulation of amino acids in the ciliate cell.Amino acid could act as compatible solutes in the cytoplasm to maintain the osmotic balance in saline water.Overall,this work is an initial exploration to the molecular basis of the heterotrophic protist responding to salinity stressing.The result sheds light on the mechanisms of enhancement of cell protection,reduction of cell activity,and osmotic pressure regulation in ciliates acclimated to salinity.
