The large number of oily wastewater discharges and oil spills are bringing about severe threats to environment and human *** to this challenge,a functional PAA-ZnO-HDTMS flax fiber with UV-induced switchable wettability was developed for efficient oil-water separation in this *** developed flax fiber was obtained through PAA grafted polymerization and then ZnO-HDTMS nanocomposite *** as-prepared PAA-ZnO-HDTMS flax fiber was hydrophobic initially and could be switched to hydrophilic through UV *** hydrophobicity could be easily recovered through being stored in dark environment for several *** optimize the performance of the PAA-ZnO-HDTMS flax fiber,the effects of ZnO and HDTMS concentrations on its switchable wettability were *** optimized PAA-ZnO-HDTMS flax fiber had a large water contact angle(∼130°)in air and an extremely small oil contact angle(∼0°)underwater *** UV treatment,the water contact angle was decreased to 30°,while the underwater oil contact angle was increased to more than 150°.Based on this UV-induced switchable wettability,the developed PAA-ZnO-HDTMS flax fiber was applied to remove oil from immiscible oil-water mixtures and oil-in-water emulsion with great reusability for multiple ***,the developed flax fiber could be further fabricated into oil barrier or oil sorbent for oil-water separation,which could be an environmentally-friendly alternative in oil spill response and oily wastewater treatment.

Sensory innervation around immediately vs. delayed loaded implants: a pilot study

Although neurophysiological and psychophysical proof of osseoperception is accumulating, histomorphometric evidence for the neural mechanisms of functional compensation following immediate and delayed implant loading is still lacking. For this randomized split-mouth study, six mongrel dogs randomly received one of four treatment protocols at 36 implant-recipient sites over 16 weeks （third maxillary incisor, third and fourth mandibular premolar）： immediate implant placement and immediate loading （liP＋ IL）; delayed implant placement and delayed loading （DIP＋DL）; delayed implant placement and immediate loading （DIP＋IL）; and natural extraction socket healing （control）. Histomorphometry was performed in the peri-implant bone and soft tissues within 300 pm around the implants. Immunocytochemistry and transmission electron microscopy were used to confirm the presence of neural structures and to reveal their ultrastructural characteristics, respectively. Myelinated nerve fibres densely populated the peri-implant crestal gingival and apical regions, although they were also identified in the woven bone and in the osteons near the implant threads. Compared with the control group in the mandible, the group that received IIP＋IL showed a higher innervation （in ***^-2, 5.94±1.12 vs. 3.15±0.63, P〈0.001） and smaller fibre diameter （in pm, 1.37±0.05 vs. 1.64±0.13, P=0.016）, smaller axon diameter （in pm, 0.89±0.05 vs. 1.24±0,10, P=0.009） and g-ratio （0.64±0.04 vs. 0.76±0.05, P〈0.001） in the middle region around the implants. Compared with DIP＋IL in the mandible, IIP＋IL had a higher nerve density （in ***^-2, 13.23±2.54 vs. 9.64±1.86, P=0.027）, greater fibre diameter （in pm, 1.32±0.02 vs. 1.20±0.04, P=0.021）, greater axon diameter （in μm, 0.92±0.01 vs. 0.89±0.03, P=-0.035） and lower g-ratio （0.69±0.01 vs. 0.74±0.01, P=-0.033） in the apical region around the implants. BACKGROUND Survival in patients with autoimmune liver disease overlap syndromes(AILDOS)compared to those with single autoimmune liver disease is *** To investigate the survival of patients with AILDOS and assess the accuracy of non-invasive serum models for predicting liver-related *** Patients with AILDOS were defined as either autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cholangitis overlap(AIH-PBC)or autoimmune hepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis overlap(AIH-PSC)and were identified from three tertiary centres for this cohort ***-related death or transplantation(liver-related mortality)was determined using a population-based data linkage *** scores for liver-related death were compared for accuracy[including liver outcome score(LOS),Hepascore,Mayo Score,model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)score and MELD incorporated with serum sodium(MELD-Na)score].RESULTS Twenty-two AILDOS patients were followed for a median of 3.1 years(range,0.35-7.7).Fourteen were female,the median age was 46.7 years(range,17.8 to 82.1)and median Hepascore was 1(range,0.07-1).At five years post enrolment,57%of patients remained free from liver-related mortality(74%AIH-PBC,27%AIH-PSC).There was no significant difference in survival between AIH-PBC and *** was a significant predictor of liver-related mortality(P<0.05)in patients with AIH-PBC(n=14)but not AIH-PSC(n=8).A LOS cut-point of 6 discriminated liver-related mortality in AIH-PBC patients(P=0.012,log-rank test,100%sensitivity,77.8%specificity)(Harrell's C-statistic 0.867).The MELD score,MELD-Na score and Mayo Score were not predictive of liver-related mortality in any *** Survival in the rare,AILDOS is *** current study supports the LOS as a predictor of liver-related mortality in AIH-PBC *** trials investigating predictors of survival in AILDOS are required.

Inulin-type fructooligosaccharides（FOS） purified from Morinda officinalis,with degrees of polymerization（DP） from 3 to 9, has been approved as the prescribed oral drug by CFDA in 2012 with the indications for mild and moderate depressive episode, while the bioprocess of this FOS mixtures are largely unknown. This work aimed to illustrate this bioprocess related to gut microbiota and intestine construction. The depression-like rat model was built by chronic unpredictable mild stress（CUMS） procedure for seven weeks, then verified by open field test（OFT） and sucrose preference test（SPT）. Under the three weeks’ treatment period, the fecal sample were collected at day 0, 15 and 22, and further analyzed the microbiota DNA composition using ERIC-PCR method. Hematoxylin and eosin（H＆E） staining was applied to investigate the gut epithelial morphology. Results showed that, rats with depression-like behaviors presented low SPT value（＜50%, p＜0.01） and low total travel distance in OFT test（p＜0.01）. Conversely, SPT value was increased（＞65%, p＜0.05） after treatments with FOS, indicating recovering the pleasant sensation. Meanwhile, in partial least square data analysis（PLS-DA） plot, differential modulations of normal and depressive rat model were observed at 0-day microbiota composition. Furthermore, while compared the 22-day plot, there were greatly changed the microbiota composition after treatments（fluoxetine, FOS-DP5 and FOS mixture）. In other side, the colon mucosa, intestinal villus（height and integrity） were severe damaged in intestine of depressive rat model. It was the intestinal inflammatory and severe damage happened in depression-like rats. However, intestinal micro-architecture abnormalities were restored and reversed by FOS treatment. Inferior to FOS, fluoxetine aroused intestinal irritation（cell necrosis, exfoliation and deep staining） on parts of treated rats. A new electroplated Ir/Ir(OH)_x pH electrode and its application in the coastal areas of Newport Harbor, California

Resulting from the rising levels of atmospheric carbon, ocean acidification has become a global problem. It has significant impacts on the development, survival, growth and physiology of marine organisms. Therefore, a high- precision sensor is urgently needed to measure the pH of sea-water. Iridium wire with a diameter of 0.25 mm is used as the substrate, and an Ir/Ir（OH）x pH electrode is prepared by a one-step electrochemical method in a LiOH solution at the room temperature. A scanning electron microscope （SEM） observation reveals that it is coated with nanoscale particles. In laboratory tests, the electrode exhibits a very promising pH response, with an ideal Nernst slope （56.14-59.52）, fast response, good stability and long fife-span in tested pH buffer solutions. For a sea trial, four pH electrodes and one Ag/AgC1 reference electrode are integrated with a self-made chemical sensor, and a profile detection of nearly 70 m is implemented near Newport Harbor, California on August 3, 2015. The results reflect that the pH value measured by the sensor is very close to the data given by Sea-Bird 911 plus CTD, with a difference value ranging from 0.000 075 to 0.064 719. And the sensor shows a better data matching degree in 0-40 m water depth. In addition, the high precision and accuracy of the sensor make it possible to use in the ocean observation field.
