An asymmetric catalytic strategy in photocatalysis utilizing a chirality-induced approach through an organocatalytic/photoredox relay catalysis strategy is successfully achieved for the rapid construction of polycyclic compounds containing vicinal amino alcohols in a one-pot protocol. This methodology facilitates the efficient synthesis of diverse substituted polycyclic tetrahydroquinoline and benzofuran-derived vicinal amino alcohols, each containing five consecutive chiral centers, with high yields,excellent diastereoselectivities and enantioselectivities(up to 95% yield, >20:1 dr and 98% ee), under mild reaction conditions driven by sequential bifunctional squaramide organocatalyst-catalyzed [4+2] annulation and photocatalyst-catalyzed ketyl radical addition cyclization reaction process. Furthermore, investigations into the stereoselectivity mechanism and high-resolution mass spectrometry(HRMS) experiments on free radical trapping have provided evidence for elucidating the detailed mechanism of chirality-induced processes and chiral intermediate conversions in this procedure.

Male infertility is a significant cause of psychosocial and marital distress in approximately 50% of couples who are unable to conceive,with male factors being the underlying cause.Guijiajiao(Colla Carapacis et Plastri,CCP)is a Traditional Chinese Medicine commonly used to treat male infertility.The present study aimed to investigate the potential mechanisms underlying the preventive effects of CCP on male infertility.An infertile male rat model was established using cyclophosphamide(CTX),and CCP was administered for both treatment and prevention.Fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)was also performed to explore the role of gut microbiota in the CCP-mediated prevention of male infertility in rats.Sperm motility and concentration were determined using a semiautomatic sperm classification analyzer.Subsequently,histopathological analysis using he staining was performed to examine the changes in the small intestine and testis.Moreover,the serum levels of lipopolysaccharide(LPS)and testosterone were measured by ELISA.In addition,immunohistochemistry was conducted to detect CD3 expression in the small intestine,while RT-qPCR was employed to assess the expressions of interleukin-1 beta(IL-1β),cluster of differentiation 3(CD3),Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1),and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10(CXCL-10)in the small intestine and epididymis.Finally,gut microbiota was analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing.CCP improved sperm motility,number,and concentration in CTX-induced infertile male rats.CCP increased the serum testosterone level,inhibited the immune cell infiltration of the intestinal lamina propria,and promoted the aggregation of CD3+T cells in CTX-induced male infertility rats.CCP also inhibited the expressions of MCP-1,CXCL-10,and IL-1βin the epididymis of male infertility rats.At the genus level,CTX led to a reduction in the abundance of Lactobacillus,Clostridia_UCG.014,and Romboutsia in the intestinal tract of rats.In contrast,CCP decreased the abundance of Ruminococcus and increased the abundance of Romboutsi

In the spread of SARS-C oV-2,there have been multiple waves of replacement between strains,each of which having a distinct set of mutations.The first wave is a group of four mutations(C241 T,C3037 T,C14408 T and A23403 G [this being the amino acid change D614 G];all designated 0 to 1 below).This DG(D614 G) group,fixed at the start of the pandemic,is the foundation of all subsequent waves of strains.Curiously,the DG group is absent in early Asian samples but present(and likely common) in Europe from the beginning.European data show that the high fitness of DG1111 requires the synergistic effect of all four mutations.However,the European strains would have had no time to evolve the four DG mutations(0 to1),had they come directly from the early Asian DG0000 strain.Very likely,the European DG1111 strain had acquired the highly adaptive DG mutations in pre-pandemic Europe and had been spreading in parallel with the Asian strains.Two recent reports further support this twin-beginning interpretation.There was a period of two-way spread between Asia and Europe but,by May 2020,the European strains had supplanted the Asian strains globally.This large-scale replacement of one set of mutations for another has since been replayed many times as COVID-19 progresses.

Following the current rapid development of the Internet of Things(IoT)and wireless condition monitoring systems,energy harvesters which use ambient energy have become a key part of achieving an energy-autonomous system.Miniature wind energy harvesters have attracted widespread attention because of their great potential of power density as well as the rich availability of wind energy in many possible areas of application.This article provides readers with a glimpse into the state-of-the-art of miniature wind energy harvesters.The crucial factors for them to achieve high working efficiency under lower operational wind speed excitation are analyzed.Various potential energy coupling mechanisms are discussed in detail.Design approaches for broadening operational wind-speed-range given a variety of energy coupling mechanisms are also presented,as observed in the literature.Performance enhancement mechanisms including hydrodynamic configuration optimization,and non-linear vibration pick-up structure are reviewed.Conclusions are drawn and the outlook for each coupling mechanisms is presented.

In vivo imaging of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury remains an important challenge.We injected porous Ag/Au@SiO_(2) bimetallic hollow nanoshells carrying anti-tropomyosin 4 as a molecular probe into mice with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury and observed microvascular changes in the brain using photoacoustic imaging with ultrasonography.At each measured time point,the total photoacoustic signal was significantly higher on the affected side than on the healthy side.Twelve hours after reperfusion,cerebral perfusion on the affected side increased,cerebrovascular injury worsened,and anti-tropomyosin 4 expression increased.Twenty-four hours after reperfusion and later,perfusion on the affected side declined slowly and stabilized after 1 week;brain injury was also alleviated.Histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations confirmed the brain injury tissue changes.The nanoshell molecular probe carrying anti-tropomyosin 4 has potential for use in early diagnosis of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury and evaluating its progression.

Revelation of bimolecular tautomerization induced by the concerted and radical interactions in lignin pyrolysis

Bimolecular interactions play crucial roles in lignin pyrolysis.The tautomerization of key intermediates has a significant impact on the formation of stable products,whereas bimolecular tautomerization has been rarely clarified.In the present work,the bimolecular tautomerization mechanism induced by both concerted and radical interactions was proposed and carefully confirmed.A characteristicβ-O-4 lignin dimer,2-phenoxy-1-phenylethanol(α-OH-PPE),was used as the model compound to reveal two representative keto-phenol and enol-keto tautomerism mechanisms,based on theoretical calculations combined with pyrolysis experiments.The results indicate that the unimolecular tautomerism as the rate-determining step limits product generation,due to fairly high energy barriers.While the free hydroxy compounds and radicals derived from initial pyrolysis can further initiate bimolecular tautomerism reactions through the one-step concerted hydroxyl-assisted hydrogen transfer(hydroxylAHT)and two-step radical hydrogen abstraction interactions,respectively.By alleviating and even avoiding the large ring tension of tautomerism,the unstable tautomers(2,4-cyclohexadienone and1-hydroxy styrene)can be rapidly tautomerized into stable phenol and acetophenone with the help of intermolecular interaction.Benefitting from the significant advantage of retro-ene fragmentation in breaking theβ-O-4 bond to form tautomers,a large amount of stable phenolic and ketone products can be generated following bimolecular tautomerization in the pyrolysis ofβ-O-4 linked lignin.

A three-stage theoretical model is presented herein to predict the perforation of a thick metallic plate struck normally by a long rod at high velocities. The model is suggested on the basis of the assumption that the perforation of a thick metallic plate by a long rod can be divided into three stages:(1) initial penetration;(2) plug formation and (3) plug slipping and separation. Various analytical equations are derived which can be employed to predict the ballistic limit, residual velocity and residual length of the long rod. It is demonstrated that the present model predictions are in good agreement with available experimental results for the perforation of finite steel targets struck normally by steel as well as tungsten alloy long rods at high velocities. It is also demonstrated that the dynamic maximum shear stress of a plate material has strong effect on plug formation and plug thickness which, in turn, exerts considerable influence on the residual velocities and lengths of a long rod at impact velocities just above the ballistic limit.

Effect of volume fraction of metal matrix composites framework on compressive mechanical properties of 3D interpenetrating ZTAp/40Cr architectured composites

The effect of the volume fraction of 3D-metal matrix composites(MMC)framework on the compressive properties of 3D interpenetrating hierarchical ZrO_(2)-toughened Al_(2)O_(3)particle(ZTAp)/40Cr steel composites was investigated.The results showed that the compressive properties of the material tended to decrease as the volume fraction of 3D-MMC framework increased.The composite with 35 vol.%3D-MMC had a yield strength of 1455.2 MPa and compressive strength of 1612.8 MPa,which occurred at a strain value of 5.6%.Compared to the homogeneously dispersed composite material,the composite with 35 vol.%3D-MMC had a 144.7%higher yield strength,which occurred at a 20%higher strain.An analysis of the cracks inside the material revealed that the crack was hindered and deflected by the matrix during propagation,which lengthened the crack propagation path and consumed more energy,thus leading to toughening.The results indicated that 3D interpenetrating hierarchical structure had a strengthening and toughening effect on ZTAp/40Cr composites.
