Presence and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of RE-cmeABC-Positive Campylobacter Isolated from Food-Producing Animals, 2014–2016

Campylobacter spp. are the leading cause of human gastroenteritis worldwide. RE-CmeABC is a newly identified resistance-enhancing multidrug efflux pump of Campylobacter spp. (C. spp.) that confers high-level resistance to fluoroquinolones, phenicols, macrolides, and tetracyclines (TETs), all of which are critical drugs in both human and veterinary medicine. In this study, we analyzed the presence and antimicrobial susceptibility of RE-cmeABC-positive Campylobacter isolates of food-animal origin from three representative regions (Shandong, Shanghai, and Guangdong) in China over three successive years, from 2014 to 2016. A total of 1088 Campylobacter isolates (931 C. coli and 157 C. jejuni) were recovered from the RE-cmeABC screening. We detected 122 (11.2%) RE-cmeABC-positive isolates of chicken origin, including 111 (70.7%) C. jejuni and 11 (1.2%) C. coli. This multidrug efflux pump is more prevalent among C. jejuni than C. coli. The level of resistance was significantly different in 111 RE-cmeABC-positive C. jejuni versus 46 RE-cmeABC-negative C. jejuni for florfenicol, clindamycin, and erythromycin (P < 0.05), but not for ciprofloxacin (CIP), TET, and gentamicin (GEN). However, the isolates harboring RE-cmeABC could shift the minimum inhibitory concentration distribution to the higher range for CIP and TET. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) analysis suggested that horizontal transmission might be involved in the dissemination of RE-cmeABC in Shanghai and Guangdong, while clonal expansion was predominant in Shandong. Three isolates shared the indiscriminate PFGE types of RE-cmeABC-positive C. jejuni isolates in Shanghai and Guangdong, and four isolates in Shanghai and Shandong. Our study suggests the possibility of a wide dissemination of RE-cmeABC in Campylobacter of food-animal origin, which would pose a significant threat to public health.

Combined with the fact that information asymmetry between two belligerent parties is very common in information-based warfare, the bidirectional influence of asymmetric information on both sides is analyzed. A new damage coefficient is formed based on the analysis, and a generalized Lanchester warfare model characterized by information asymmetry effect is built. According to the staggered transformation of information asymmetric degree resulting from the changing tactic of both sides by turns, a method for approximate solution of the model is presented by translating the information asymmetric degree as a ladder function, and both examples of the solving model and further discussion about the solution are given. The results indicate that the model can serve as a reference to analyze and forecast the course of war quantitatively. ? 2017 Beijing Institute of Aerospace Information.

Covalent organic frameworks(COFs)have emerged as a class of promising supports for electrocatalysis because of their advantages including good crystallinity,highly ordered pores,and structural diversity.However,their poor conductivity represents the main obstruction to their practical application.Here,we reported a novel synthesis strategy for synergistically endowing a triphenylamine-based COFs with improved electrical conductivity and excellent catalytic activity for oxygen reduction,via the in-situ redox deposition and confined growth of palladium nanoparticles inside the porous structure of COFs using reductive triphenylamine frameworks as reducing agent;meanwhile,the triphenylamine unit was oxidized to radical cation structure and affords radical cation COFs with conductivity as high as3.2*10^(-1) S m^(-1).Such a uniform confine palladium nanoparticle on highly conductive COFs makes it an efficient electrocatalyst for four-electron oxygen reduction reaction(4e-ORR),showing excellent activities and fast kinetics with a remarkable half-wave potential(E_(1/2))of 0.865 V and an ultralow Tafel slope of 39.7 mV dec^(-1) in alkaline media even in the absence of extra commercial conductive fillers.The generality of this strategy was proved by preparing the different metal and metal alloy nanoparticles supported on COFs(Au@COF,Pt@COF,AuPd@COF,AgPd@COF,and PtPd@COF)using reductive triphenylamine frameworks as reducing agent.This work not only provides a facile strategy for the fabrication of highly conductive COF supported ORR electrocatalysts,but also sheds new light on the practical application of Zn-air battery.

Treatment of exfoliative cheilitis with Traditional Chinese Medicine：a systematic review

OBJECTIVE:To systematically review treatments of exfoliative cheilitis based on symptom patterns in terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine.METHODS:Pub Med, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Wanfang data were screened for case reports, case series or clinical trials that were published in English or Chinese from January,1973 to September, 2015.The keyword of "exfoliative cheilitis or scaling cheilitis or factitious cheilitis" was used.Effectiveness or ineffectiveness was investigated as outcome for Meta analysis, which is based on effective index in each study.Response to treatment was described for case reports or case series.RESULTS:From 38 screened studies, 17 were randomized controlled trials(RCTs), 5 were single-arm trials, and 16 were case reports or case series.Three RCTs were eligible for Meta analysis and all of them compared managements between Traditional Chinese Medicine and corticosteroids for exfoliative cheilitis, which involved 223 participants.Interestingly, data of Meta analysis showed similar effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine and corticosteroids for patients with exfoliative cheilitis [relative risk ratio:1.10; 95% CI(1.00-1.21), P = 0.06].CONCLUSION:Traditional Chinese Medicine might be a substitute for corticosteroids on exfoliative cheilitis.However, the evidence and recommendation of exfoliative cheilitis managements need to be taken with caution because of the low quality of evidence in the studies obtained.

Analog spatiotemporal feature extraction for cognitive radio-frequency sensing with integrated photonics

Analog feature extraction(AFE)is an appealing strategy for low-latency and efficient cognitive sensing systems since key features are much sparser than the Nyquist-sampled data.However,applying AFE to broadband radio-frequency(RF)scenarios is challenging due to the bandwidth and programmability bottlenecks of analog electronic circuitry.Here,we introduce a photonics-based scheme that extracts spatiotemporal features from broadband RF signals in the analog domain.The feature extractor structure inspired by convolutional neural networks is implemented on integrated photonic circuits to process RF signals from multiple antennas,extracting valid features from both temporal and spatial dimensions.Because of the tunability of the photonic devices,the photonic spatiotemporal feature extractor is trainable,which enhances the validity of the extracted features.Moreover,a digital-analog-hybrid transfer learning method is proposed for the effective and low-cost training of the photonic feature extractor.To validate our scheme,we demonstrate a radar target recognition task with a 4-GHz instantaneous bandwidth.Experimental results indicate that the photonic analog feature extractor tackles broadband RF signals and reduces the sampling rate of analog-to-digital converters to 1/4 of the Nyquist sampling while maintaining a high target recognition accuracy of 97.5%.Our scheme offers a promising path for exploiting the AFE strategy in the realm of cognitive RF sensing,with the potential to contribute to the efficient signal processing involved in applications such as autonomous driving,robotics,and smart factories.

As a conserved transcription factor,FoxO plays a crucial role in multiple physiological processes in vivo,including stress resistance,longevity,growth and reproduction.Previous studies on FoxO have focused on human,mouse,Drosophila melanogaster and Caenorhabditis elegans,while there are few reports on agricultural pests and little is known about how FoxO modulates insect fecundity.In Asia,the brown planthopper(BPH)Nilaparvata lugens(St?l)is one of the most serious pests in rice production and high fecundity is the basis of the outbreak of BPH.Here,using the genome-wide ChIP-seq of NlFoxO in BPH,we found that NlFoxO binds to the promoters of ribosomal protein S6 kinase(NlS6K)and serine/threonine-protein kinase mTOR(NlTOR)and increases their expression levels.We also found that NlFoxO directly binds to the exon of vitellogenin(NlVg)and has a specific inhibitory effect on its expression.In addition,the number of eggs laid and their hatching rate decreased significantly after injection of NlFoxO double-stranded RNA into BPH adults.Our findings provide direct evidence that FoxO modulates insect fecundity through binding to the promoters of NlS6K,NlTOR and the exon of NlVg and affecting their gene expression in the Vg network.

OBJECTIVE:To treat patients with psoriasis vulgaris using Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),one must stratify patients into subtypes(known as TCM syndromes or Zheng)and apply appropriate TCM treatments to different subtypes.However,no unified symptom-based classification scheme of subtypes(Zheng)exists for psoriasis vulgaris.The present paper aims to classify patients with psoriasis vulgaris into different subtypes via the analysis of clinical TCM symptom and sign data.METHODS:A cross-sectional survey was carried out in Beijing from 2005-2008,collecting clinical TCM symptom and sign data from 2764 patients with psoriasis vulgaris.Roughly 108 symptoms and signs were initially analyzed using latent tree analysis,with a selection of the resulting latent variables then used as features to cluster patients into subtypes.RESULTS:The initial latent tree analysis yielded a model with 43 latent variables.The second phase of the analysis divided patients into three subtype groups with clear TCM Zheng connotations:'blood deficiency and wind dryness';'blood heat';and'blood stasis'.CONCLUSIONS:Via two-phase analysis of clinic symptom and sign data,three different Zheng subtypes were identified for psoriasis vulgaris.Statistical characteristics of the three subtypes are presented.This constitutes an evidence-based solution to the syndromedifferentiation problem that exists with psoriasis vulgaris.

甘肃甘南藏族自治州和天祝县属于“三区三州”范围,2020年底全面脱贫后,该区域仍是巩固拓展脱贫攻坚成果和推进乡村振兴的重点监测区域。以案例区域3471个成年农牧民样本为例,对劳动力素质基本状况进行调研统计,认为过去因劳动力素质较低而形成的“低收入—劳动力素质低—低收入”的循环,在今后一段时期内仍会存在,并影响巩固拓展脱贫成果。故得出:必须将劳动力素质提升作为关键措施,在改善该区域劳动力素质方面作长期规划,绵绵用力、久久为功,持久性培育、开发及改善这些区域的劳动力素质;必须因地施策,开展以提升农牧民劳动力素质为主的政策支持,重点支持发展教育事业和提升医疗服务水平;必须进一步激发“三区三州”等地的内生发展动力,从“输血式”扶持逐步转变为“造血式”发展,以期逐渐形成新的“劳动力素质提升—收入持续增长—巩固拓展脱贫成果和乡村振兴”的良性循环。

河西走廊关键生态问题及治理研究

河西走廊是我国西部重要生态安全屏障,在国家西部生态安全视域下,生态极端重要而又脆弱敏感。学术界对河西走廊生态及治理问题主要分水、沙、山等生态要素进行专题研究,因而一定程度上弱化了各类生态问题的并存性和相联性,也较少提出系统性应对之策。综合看,河西走廊目前所面临的生态问题中最为关键的问题同时涉及“水、沙、山、工业”4个方面,即水资源匮乏、沙漠侵蚀前移、祁连山林草退化及重点工业领域生态环境压力大。针对关键生态问题及其内在联系和循环规律,在治理路径上须抓住重点,主要从系统治水、治沙锁边、护山植绿和减污降碳4方面入手,为保障治理效果还须健全极限节水机制、重大生态风险预防机制等6种机制。基于生态全局理清重点问题,有助于对不同生态要素及问题相互并存和影响而形成的河西走廊关键生态问题的全貌进行总体把握及系统性分析和治理,以进一步供学术界和有关部门参考。
