Regeneration of rat corpora cavernosa tissue by transplantation of CD133＋ cells derived from human bone marrow and placement of biodegradable gel sponge sheet

The objective is to develop an easier technique for regenerating corpora cavernosa tissue through transplantation of human bone marrow-derived CD133＋ cells into a rat corpora cavernosa defect model. We excised 2 mm× 2 mm squares of the right corpora cavernosa of twenty-three 8-week-old male nude rats. AIginate gel sponge sheets supplemented with 1 × 10^4 CD133＋ cells were then placed over the excised area of nine rats. Functional and histological evaluations were carried out 8 weeks later. The mean intracavernous pressure/mean arterial pressure ratio for the nine rats （0.34258 ± 0.0831） was significantly higher than that for eight rats with only the excision （0.0580±0.0831, P = 0.0238） and similar to that for five rats for which the penis was exposed, and there was no excision （0.37228±0.1051, P = 0.8266）. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the nine fully treated rats had venous sinus-like structures and quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis of extracts from their alginate gel sponge sheets revealed that the amounts of mRNA encoding the nerve growth factor （NGF）, and vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） were significantly higher than those for rats treated with alginate gel sheets without cell supplementation （NGF： P= 0.0309; VEGF： P〈 0.0001）. These findings show that transplantation of CD133＋ cells accelerates functional and histological recovery in the corpora cavernosa defect model.

AIM To clarify the effectiveness of scaffold-based therapy for osteochondral lesions of the talus(OLT). METHODS A systematic search of MEDLINE and EMBASE databases was performed during August 2016 and updated in January 2017. Included studies were evaluated with regard to the level of evidence(LOE) and quality of evidence(QOE) using the Modified Coleman Methodology Score. Variable reporting outcome data, clinical outcomes, and the percentage of patients who returned to sport at previous level were also evaluated. RESULTS Twenty-eight studies for a total of 897 ankles were included; 96% were either LOE Ⅲ or Ⅳ. Studies were designated as either of poor or fair quality. There were 30 treatment groups reporting six different scaffold repair techniques: 13 matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte transplantation(MACT), nine bone marrow derived cell transplantation(BMDCT), four autologous matrixinduced chondrogeneis(AMIC), and four studies of other techniques. The categories of general demographics(93%) and patient-reported outcome data(85%) were well reported. Study design(73%), imaging data(73%), clinical variables(49%), and patient history(30%) were also included. The weighted mean American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS) score at final follow-up was: 86.7 in MACT, 88.2 in BMDCT, and 82.3 in AMIC. Eight studies reported that a weighted mean of 68.3% ofpatients returned to a previous level of sport activity. CONCLUSION Scaffold-based therapy for OLT may produce favorable clinical outcomes, but low LOE, poor QOE, and variability of the data have confounded the effectiveness of this treatment.

A method for using video presentation to increase the vividness and activity of cortical regions during motor imagery tasks

In recent years,mental practice(MP)using laterally inverted video of a subject’s non-paralyzed upper limb to improve the vividness of presented motor imagery(MI)has been shown to be effective for improving the function of a paralyzed upper ***,no studies have yet assessed the activity of cortical regions engaged during MI task performance using inverse video presentations and neurophysiological *** study sought to investigate changes in MI vividness and hemodynamic changes in the cerebral cortex during MI performance under the following three conditions in near-infrared spectroscopy:MI-only without inverse video presentation(MI-only),MI with action observation(AO)of an inverse video presentation of another person’s hand(AO+MI(other hand)),and MI with AO of an inverse video presentation of a participant’s own hand(AO+MI(own hand)).Participants included 66 healthy right-handed adults(41 men and 25 women;mean age:26.3±4.3 years).There were 23 patients in the MI-only group(mean age:26.4±4.1 years),20 in the AO+MI(other hand)group(mean age:25.9±5.0 years),and 23 in the AO+MI(own hand)group(mean age:26.9±4.1 years).The MI task involved transferring 1 cm×1 cm blocks from one plate to another,once per second,using chopsticks held in the non-dominant *** on a visual analog scale(VAS),MI vividness was significantly higher in the AO+MI(own hand)group than in the MI-only group and the AO+MI(other hand)group.A main effect of condition was revealed in terms of MI vividness,as well as regions of interest(ROIs)in certain brain areas associated with motor *** data suggest that inverse video presentation of a person’s own hand enhances the MI vividness and increases the activity of motor-related cortical areas during *** study was approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee of Nagasaki University Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences(approval No.18121303)on January 18,2019.

The chemical preparation, crystal structure and infrared spectroscopic characterization of the triaqua（4-amino-6-methoxypyrimidine） cuprate（II） sulfate, [Cu（C5H7N3）（H2O）3]SO4, is reported. The compound crystallizes in the noncentrosymmetric orthorhombic space group P212121 with lattice parameters a = 7.9025（3）, b = 11.1189（4）, c = 12.9720（4） , V = 1139.81（7） ~3 and Z = 4. The Cu（II） cation is fivecoordinated, in an early half-way between square pyramidal and trigonal bipyramidal fashion, by two nitrogen atoms of the 4-amino-6-methoxypyrimidine ligand and three water oxygen atoms. In the atomic arrangement, the organic ligands and the 5-connected Cu centers are linked with each other to give a 1-D corrugated hybrid chain running along the b-axis direction. The chains are interconnected by the SO4^（2-） anions via O–H...O, O–H...S, C–H...O and N–H...O hydrogen bonds to form layers spreading parallel to the（011） plane. The vibrational absorption bands were identified by infrared spectroscopy. Quantitative measurements of the second harmonic generation（SHG） of a powdered sample at 1064 nm were performed and a relative efficiency of 5.2 times the KDP standard was observed. Magnetic properties were also defined to characterize the complex. Magnetic measurements revealed that this material had a onedimensional antiferromagnetic character. The magnetic parameters were g = 2.11 and 2J/k B = -36 K.

Extremely low lattice thermal conductivity is always the pursuit of thermoelectric materials *** this work,we reported an exceptional effect of Ag2S addition in MnTe,an emerging promising midtemperature thermoelectric material,to enable the realization of minimum lattice thermal conductivity,namely-0.4 Wm^(-1) K^(-1).Such a low lattice thermal conductivity is guaranteed by the incorporation of in-situ formed Ag rich phase(Ag2Te)with ultralow lattice thermal conductivity and further scattering of phonons from the partial doping effects induced point defects and boundaries between various *** from the dramatically decreased lattice thermal conductivity,the partial doping of Ag and S simultaneously enhance the electrical conductivity,further contributing to enhanced thermoelectric ***,an inverse sign of Seebeck and Hall coefficient was observed and rationalized by the influence of highly electron-conductive Ag_(2)Te *** to the synergetic modulation of electrical and thermal transport properties by in-situ formed composite,a high ZT value of 1.1 was achieved in MnTe based thermoelectric materials,which also demonstrates the importance of compositing approaches to design state-of-the-art thermoelectric materials.

Three benefits of microcatheters for retrograde transvenous obliteration of gastric varices

AIM： To evaluate the usefulness of the microcatheter techniques in balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration （BRTO） of gastric varices.METHODS： Fifty-six patients with gastric varices underwent BRTOs using microcatheters. A balloon catheter was inserted into gastrorenal or gastrocaval shunts. A microcatheter was navigated close to the varices, and sclerosant was injected into the varices through the microcatheter during balloon occlusion. The next morning, thrombosis of the varices was evaluated by contrast enhanced computed tomography （CE-CT）. In patients with incomplete thrombosis of the varices, a second BRTO was performed the following day. Patients were followed up with CE-CT and endoscopy.RESULTS： In all 56 patients, sclerosant was selectively injected through the microcatheter close to the varices. In 9 patients, microcoil embolization of collateral veinswas performed using a microcatheter. In 12 patients with incomplete thrombosis of the varices, additional injection of sclerosant was performed through the microcatheter that remained inserted overnight. Complete thrombosis of the varices was achieved in 51 of 56 patients, and the remaining 5 patients showed incomplete thrombosis of the varices. No recurrence of the varices was found in the successful 51 patients after a median follow up time of 10.5 too. We experienced one case of liver necrosis, and the other complications were transient.CONCLUSION： The microcatheter techniques are very effective methods for achieving a higher success rate of BRTO procedures,
