AIm: To elucidate the differences in somatic, psycho-logical and biochemical pattern between the subtypes of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). mETHODS: Eighty IBS patients, 30 diarrhoea pre-dominant (D-IBS), 16 constipation predominant (C-IBS) and 34 alternating IBS (A-IBS) underwent physi-otherapeutic examinations for dysfunctions in body movements and awareness and were compared to an apparently healthy control group (AHC). All groups an-swered questionnaires for gastrointestinal and psycho-logical symptoms. Biochemical variables were analysed in blood. RESUlTS: The D-IBS group showed less body aware-ness, less psychological symptoms, a more normal sense of coherence and psychosocial rating as well as higher C-peptide values. C-IBS had a higher degree of body dysfunction and psychological symptoms, as well as the lowest sense of coherence compared to controls and D-IBS. They also demonstrated the most elevated prolactin levels. A-IBS had the lowest degree of body disturbance, deteriorated quality of life and affected bi-ochemical pattern. All subtypes had higher pain scores compared to controls. In addition they all had signifi -cantly increased triglycerides and elevated morning cortisol levels, however, without statistical signifi cance compared with the ***: IBS subtypes showed different pro-files in body awareness, somatic and psychological symptoms and in biochemical variables. D-IBS differed compared to the other groups by lowered body aware-ness, less psychological symptoms and a higher sense of coherence and elevated C-peptide values. C-IBS and A-IBS subtypes suffered more from depression and anxiety, associated with a lower quality of life. These differences may be important and will be taken into account in our treatment of these patients.

limited information is available for soybean root traits and their plasticity under drought stress. To date, no studies have focused on examining diverse soybean germ- plasm for regulation of shoot and root response under water limited conditions across varying soil types. In this study, 17 genetically diverse soybean germplasm lines were selected to study root response to water limited conditions in clay （trial 1） and sandy soil （trial 2） in two target environments. Physiological data on shoot traits was measured at multiple crop stages ranging from early vegetative to pod filling. The phenotypic root traits, and biomass accumulation data are collected at pod filling stage. In trial 1, the number of lateral roots and forks were positively correlated with plot yield under water limitation and in trial 2, lateral root thickness was positively correlated with the hill plot yield. Plant Introduction （PI） 578477A and 088444 were found to have higher later root number and forks in clay soil with higher yield under water limitation, in sandy soil, P1458o2o was found to have a thicker lateral root system and higher yield under water limitation. The genotypes identified in this study could be used to enhance drought tolerance of elite soybean cultivars through improved root traits specific to target environments.

Squeeze casting of aluminum alloy A380: microstructure and tensile behavior

A380 alloy with a relatively thick cross-section of 25 mm was squeeze cast using a hydraulic press with an applied pressure of 90 mPa. microstructure and tensile properties of the squeeze cast A380 were characterized and evaluated in comparison with the die cast counterpart. Results show that the squeeze cast A380 possesses a porosity level much lower than the die cast alloy, which is disclosed by both optical microscopy and the density measurement technique. The results of tensile testing indicate the improved tensile properties, specifically ultimate tensile strength(UTS: 215.9 mPa) and elongation(Ef: 5.4%), for the squeeze cast samples over those of the conventional high-pressure die cast part(UTS: 173.7 mPa, Ef: 1.0%). The analysis of tensile behavior shows that the squeeze cast A380 exhibits a high tensile toughness(8.5 mJ·m-3) and resilience(179.3 k J·m-3) compared with the die cast alloy(toughness: 1.4 mJ·m-3, resilience: 140.6 k J·m-3), despite that, during the onset of plastic deformation, the strain-hardening rate of the die cast specimen is higher than that of the squeeze cast specimens. The microstructure analyzed by the scanning electron microscopy(SEm) shows that both the squeeze and die cast specimens contain the primary α-Al, Al2 Cu, Al5 Fe Si phase and the eutectic Si phase. But, the Al2 Cu phase present in the squeeze cast alloy is relatively large in size and quantity. The SEm fractography evidently reveals the ductile fracture features of the squeeze cast A380 alloy.

The Global Stratotype Section and Point （GSSP） for the base of the Silurian System was defined in 1985. Since that time, a number of researchers have suggested that this section has serious deficiencies for use as a GSSP. As a result, in 2000, the Subcommission on Silurian Stratigraphy （SSS） proposed undertaking a formal restu@ of this GSSP, which was subsequently approved by the International Commission of Stratigraphy （ICS）. The result of this restudy was the formal proposal that the current GSSP, at 1.6 m above the base of the Birkhill Shale, at Dob＇s linn, Scotland, should be maintained as the same locality and stratigraphic level, but the bios- tratigraphical definition of the boundary should be revised. The previously defined, basal Silurian grapto- lite zone, the Parakidograptus acuminatus Zone, should be subdivided into a lower Akidograptus ascensus Zone and a higher E acuminatus Zone. The base of the A. ascensus Zone, marked by the first appearance of A. ascensus, should be regarded as the biostratigraphic mark for the base of the Silurian. This proposal has now been formally approved by the SSS and ICS, and ratified by International Union of Geological Sciences. This is the first GSSP to undergo formal restudy and redefini- tion, and the proposal also included a recommended procedure for restudy of GSSPs.

The 1979 differential radius observations of the Sun have been reexamined for additional evidence of gravity modes (g-modes) beyond that reported by Hill and to classify the modes for which evidence has been obtained. The basic criteria employed in the mode detection and classification procedure are extensions of the criteria introduced by Hill. The properties of the 31 multiplets classified by Hill are used as the starting point in the work reported here. Statistically significant evidence of additional g-modes has been found and the number of classified multiplets is extended from 31 to 53. The degrees and radial orders of the 53 multiplets are respectively l=1, n=47,…, 7; l=2, n=6,…, 13, 15 and 16; l=3, n=7,…, 20; l=4, n=7,…, 20; and l=5, n=16,…, 26. The m=0 eigenfrequencies are measured with an accuracy of ≈0.02 μHz and the multiplet structure linear in angular order m is measured with an accuracy of ≈0.01 μHz.

Sustainable agricultural practices have been steadily increasing in the last couple of decades. These management practices frequently involve cover crops, less or no-tillage, and organic fertilization. In this study, we evaluated the effects of cropping systems,tillage and no-tillage, and the application of poultry litter(Pl) on selected soil physicochemical properties and soil test nutrients. Soil samples were collected from the topmost surface(0–5 cm) and subsurface(5–10 cm) layers. The general effect trend was Pl application > no-tillage > cover crop > cropping type. There were more statistically significant(P ≤ 0.05) correlations between the 18 soil attributes at the topmost surface than at the subsurface. This could be due to the accumulation of external C inputs and nutrients by crop residues and Pl application as well as the retaining effects of no-tillage on less mobile nutrient components. Because of their high mobility and volatile nature, total nitrogen(N), ammonia-N(NH_4^+-N), and nitrate-N(NO_3^--N) levels varied greatly(high standard deviations), showing no consistent patterns among the treatments. Compared to the soybean cropping system, corn, especially with the wheat cover crop, contributed more to the total carbon(C) and sulfur(S) in the topmost surface soils(0–5 cm). Poultry litter application greatly increased pH, cation exchange capacity(CEC), base saturation, magnesium(mg), phosphorus(P), calcium(Ca),sodium(Na), potassium(K), manganese(mn), copper(Cu), and zinc(Zn) in both soil layers. Contrast comparisons revealed that Pl application had more of an effect on these soil chemical properties than no-tillage and cropping systems. These results will shed light on developing better nutrient management practices while reducing their runoff potentials.

目的探讨不同甲状旁腺素（PTH）给药情况下及撤药后，骨及间充质干细胞的不同分化作用机制。方法6周龄雄性C57/Bl6J小鼠，基因型为SOX9－creERT/Td－Tomato/Osteocalcin－GFP，分为间断PTH刺激及撤药组（PTH 500 μg·kg^－1·d^－1，皮下注射）、持续PTH刺激及撤药组（PTH泵，80 μg·kg^－1·d^－1，速度0.25 μl/h，皮下埋入）、空白对照组及撤药对照组，共6组，每组8只。分别于给药2周及撤药2周时观察小鼠血清中钙离子浓度及骨密度，并取小鼠胫骨骨骼分别进行病理及免疫荧光染色。结果间断PTH刺激组血清钙离子浓度一过性升高，达（1.36±0.03）mmol/l。持续PTH泵刺激组血清中钙离子浓度逐渐升高，48 h达高峰[（2.33±0.03）mmol/l]，2周后恢复正常（1.12～1.27 mmol/l）。PTH刺激2周后，间断组[（0.047±0.002）g/cm2]和持续组[（0.046±0.001）g/cm2]骨密度均高于对照组[（0.044±0.001）g/cm2]，但间断组和持续组差异无统计学意义。停药2周后，三组间BmD差异无统计学意义。股骨病理可见间断组骨皮质不明显，大量的骨小梁增生，伴少量纤维组织增生；持续PTH刺激大片纤维组织增生，尤以骨皮质内侧显著，撤药后纤维化消失。间断PTH刺激后骨细胞和成骨细胞明显升高，撤药后明显下降；衬里细胞数量骤减，撤药后有所增加；破骨细胞给药及撤药后差异均无统计学意义。持续PTH刺激破骨细胞增多，衬里细胞骤减，撤药后破骨细胞和衬里细胞增加，成骨细胞减少。腓骨干骺端免疫荧光显示，间断PTH刺激组大量未分化的Td－tomato间充质干细胞，撤药后较前明显减少。持续PTH组少量未分化的Td－tomato间充质干细胞增生，撤药后较前减少。结论间断PTH刺激可通过增加未分化的间充质干细胞和成骨细胞数量，将衬里细胞转换为骨细胞和成骨细胞，进而促进骨生成；持续PTH刺激可使少量未分化的间充质干细胞、成骨细胞和骨细胞增生，伴大量纤维化增生和破骨细胞数量骤增，最终可能导致代谢性骨病，撤药后衬里细胞明显增加，或有利于代谢性骨病的缓解。
