Current evidence of concept analyses recommending nanotechnology for biomedical uses abounds in recent research. The area of biotechnology interfaces with nanostructures, reconfigures their composition, and alters their characteristics;which influences the dispersion of the particles, the biotransformation they cause, and their potential toxic effect. It is vital to link the idea of the lifecycle of nanostructures to the biological impacts and use methodologies to identify, estimate, and track the gradual bioprocessing of nanostructures in vivo, from a body-wide level to a nanoscopic size. This is necessary because understanding how nanostructures processing, degradation, persistence, and recycling predict potential exposure risks. The safe implementation of nanotechnology-based products in biomedical applications necessitates an extensive understanding of the recycling and transformations of nanomaterials in a living organism. Long-term fate in the body is crucial, as it governs potential environmental risks to human health. Strategies may be used to manage the long-term outcome of nanostructures in an organism since, in addition to composition, their design also affects how long they last and how easily they degrade. The lifespan of nanoparticles, a flexible and biocompatible category of nanostructures that have made it into clinical trials, is the subject of this article. This review explained the safety of nanoscale materials, biotransformation, and the multifunctional recycling mechanism of nanostructures.

AIM To assess the association of inter-ethnic vs intra-ethnic marriage with severity of coronary artery disease(CAD) in men undergoing *** We conducted a prospective multicenter,multi-ethnic,cross sectional observational study at five hospitals in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates,in which we used logistic regression analysis with and without adjustment for baseline differences. RESULTS Data were collected for 1068 enrolled patients undergoing coronary angiography for clinical indications during the period of April 1^(st),2013 to March 30^(th),2014. Ethnicities of spouses were available only for male patients. Of those enrolled,687 were married men and constituted the cohort for the present analysis. Intra-ethnic marriages were reported in 70% and inter-ethnic marriages in 30%. After adjusting for baseline differences,interethnic marriage was associated with lower odds of having significant CAD [adjusted odds ratio 0.52(95%CI:0.33,0.81)] or multi-vessel disease(MVD) [adjusted odds ratio 0.57(95%CI:0.37,0.86)]. The adjusted association with left main disease showed a similar trend,but was not statistically significant [adjusted odds ratio 0.74(95%CI:0.41,1.32)]. The association between interethnic marriage and the presence of significant CAD and MVD was not modified by number of concurrent wives(P interaction > 0.05 for both).CONCLUSION Among married men undergoing coronary angiography,inter-ethnic,as compared to intra-ethnic,marriage is associated with lower odds of significant CAD and MVD.

Salinity is one of the major abiotic factors that limit the growth and productivity of *** application of plant growth regulators(PGRs)may help plants ameliorate the negative impacts of ***,a field experiment was conducted at the Botanical Garden University of Balochistan,Quetta,to explore the potential role of PGRs,i.e.,moringa leaf extract(MLE;10%),proline(PRO;1μM),salicylic acid(SA;250μM),and thiourea(TU;10 mM)in ameliorating the impacts of salinity(120 mM)on Plantago ovata,an important medicinal *** hampered plant photosynthetic pigments and metabolites but elevated oxidative ***,foliar application of PGRs enhanced photosynthetic pigments,including Chl b(21.11%),carotenoids(57.87%)except Chl a,activated the defense mechanisms by restoring and enhancing the metabolites,i.e.,soluble sugars(49.68%),soluble phenolics(33.34%),and proline(31.47%),significantly under salinity ***,foliar supplementation of PGRs under salt stress led to a decrease of about 43.02%and 43.27%in hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde content,***,PGRs can be recommended for improved photosynthetic efficiency and metabolite content that can help to get better yield under salt stress,with the best and most effective treatments being those of PRO and MLE to predominately ameliorate the harsh impacts of salinity.

Changes in Maternal Lifestyle during Ramadan altered Placental Development

People born with low birth weight are at a greater risk of developing later life diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and cancer. Recent studies have pinpointed the placenta as a critical factor involved in developmental programming. Changes in maternal lifestyle or dietary habits can alter placental development and increase the risk of developmental programming of adult diseases. Saudi people, including pregnant women, change their lifestyle and eating habits during the holy month of Ramadan. Previous studies found that the exposure to Ramadan lifestyle reduces placental weight;however, effects on other placental aspects remained unknown. We aimed to further examine the effects of exposure to Ramadan lifestyle on full-term placental morphometrics, histology and gene expression of key glucose transporters. To examine this, fresh placentas were collected from 60 healthy Saudi women. Samples were equally classified into two groups;not exposed to Ramadan lifestyle (control) or exposed to Ramadan lifestyle in the first. Placental weight, length and breadth were recorded and placental surface area was calculated. Placental tissue was processed and stained with eosin and hematoxylin for histological examination. Apoptosis was assessed using TUNEL assay. The gene expression of the glucose transporters GLUT1 and GLUT3 was evaluated. The results show that women exposed to Ramadan lifestyle have more elongated placentas with less central cord insertion. Placental weight and surface area were significantly lowered in women exposed to Ramadan lifestyle. Placental length was not affected but the breadth was significantly smaller in than control. Placentas exposed to Ramadan lifestyle had fewer and less-developed syncytial knots and thicker syncytiotrophoblast cells. Apoptosis was detected in placentas exposed to Ramadan lifestyle. Effect of Modified HIF-1<i>α</i>Linked to Carbonic Anhydrase IX Inhibitor and Glycosylated Cisplatin on Solid Tumors: Short Review

Many cancer cells in solid tumors are hypoxic or pseudohypoxic and create acidic environment for malignancy progression. Under low oxygen conditions (hypoxia), hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) play pathological roles in cancer cell survival and spreading. HIF regulates several genes such as genes of glucose transporters that enhance anaerobic glycolysis, angiogenesis, erythropoiesis and carbonic anhydrase IX (CA-IX). CA-IX is a cell-surface glycoprotein that catalyzes the hydration of CO2 to protons and bicarbonate ions (respiratory acidification). This process is involved in adaptation to acidosis and implicated in cancer progression. Therefore, CA-IX inhibitors (such as sulfonamide-based compounds) showed hoping results in reduction malignancy progression. The article aims to reversal the malignant hypoxic environment in solid tumors to create a condition of weakness within the cancer for further focused cisplatin potency. This article suggests the use of modified synthesized HIF as a drug delivery molecule for both carbonic anhydrase IX inhibitor and glycosylated cisplatin that damages the DNA of malignant cell. HIF molecule has high affinity to bind with CA IX-expressing malignant cells, which is followed by cell entrance via endocytosis. Once the HIF-Cisplatin-CA-inhibitor complex enters the cell, the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor will improve the cellular pH that makes the environment unsuitable for HIF 1α function and it may be ubiquitinated. So, the raise in target genes transcription will be arrested. On the other hand, once the synthetized HIF is degraded, the cisplatin molecules will be released inside the malignant cell and start to damage its DNA. This approach may be a good solution for many solid tumors.

Computational biology plays a significant role in the discovery of new biomarkers, the analyses of disease states and the validation of potential biomarkers. Biomarkers are used to measure the progress of disease or the physiological effects of therapeutic intervention in the treatment of disease. They are also used as early warning signs for various diseases such as cancer and inflammatory diseases. In this review, we outline recent progresses of computational biology application in research on biomarkers discovery. A brief discussion of some necessary preliminaries on machine learning techniques (e.g., clustering and support vector machines—SVM) which are commonly used in many applications to biomarkers discovery is given and followed by a description of biological background on biomarkers. We further examine the integration of computational biology approaches and biomarkers. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of key challenges for computational biology to biomarkers discovery.

BACKGROUND Once daily tacrolimus regimen was found to exhibits similar bioavailability,safety and efficacy properties compared to twice-daily tacrolimus in kidney transplantation *** To compare the efficacy and safety of once-daily prolonged release tacrolimus compared to twice-daily tacrolimus in liver transplantation *** MEDLINE,EMBASE,CENTRal databases were searched for clinical trials until December *** outcome measured as the rate of treatment failure indicated by biopsy-proven acute rejection,Serum creatinine,graft loss,or *** reviewers independently selected studies,collected data and assessed risk of *** results are reported as risk ratio with 95%confidence interval(CI)for dichotomous *** Seven studies included with 965 *** the included studies were of moderate quality according to the risk of bias assessment using Cochrane Risk of Bias ***-proven acute rejection was reported in four studies,and pooled analysis of those studies indicated similar rejections in both twice daily and once daily tacrolimus groups(risk ratio:1.06,95%CI:0.84-1.34,n=758,I2=0%)and also we found no significant difference between both groups for renal outcome(serum creatinine;mean difference,0.001 mg/dL,95%CI:-0.042 to 0.043,n=846,I2=18.6%).Similarly,there was similar number of adverse events such as hypertension,headache,back pain,blood related disorders,infections and nausea observed in both *** The analysis findings confirm that both once daily and twice daily tacrolimus formulations are comparable in terms of efficacy and safety outcomes.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways characterized by recurring episodes of reversible airway obstruction, hyper-responsiveness, wheezing, breathlessness and coughing. Clinical diagnosis of asthma is based on the pattern of clinical symptoms and pulmonary fuction tests. Asthma affectes 5% - 10% of the population and the number of worldwide cases is approximately 300 milliones. The incidence of this disease is increasing particulry in western countries [1]. It is the cause of a huge economic burden to national healthcare services. In a minority of cases, asthma is potentially fatal. After a period when fatalities appeared to be increasing [2], in recent years asthma-related mortality has progressively declined due to the develop- ment of specific asthma disease management programs, as well as the extensive use of in- haled corticosteroids [3]. Inflammation of the airways is a central component in asthma. In- flammation is associated with infliltration of the airway wall with eosinophiles and or neutron- philes mast cell degranulation and T cell active- tion. Other pathological features include, sub- basement membrane thickening, loss of epithet- lial cell integrity, goblet cells hyperplasia In- crease in airway smooth muscle mass. Eosino- phils are thought to be vital in the development of airway hyperreactivity, with the eosinophil cationic protein playing a crucial role [4]. The fact that treatment of asthma with corticos-teroids reduces eosinophils numbers and decreases airway reactivity further supports this hypothesis.

研究背景结直肠息肉(CRP)是一类起源于结肠或者直肠内壁的病变。随着人们生活水平的提高,CRP发病率呈逐年上升趋势,尤其多见于城镇地区。大多数结直肠息肉生长缓慢,临床症状不明显,而往往只有大息肉会引起消化道症状。炎症性息肉和增生性息肉被认为无恶变的可能,但腺瘤性息肉的恶变度更高。既往研究表明,炎症因子和血脂水平异常与结直肠息肉的发病率密切相关。而目前没有研究表明血尿酸(UA)与血清甘油三酯(TG)、总胆固醇(TC)、高密度脂蛋白(HDL)、低密度脂蛋白(LDL)、空腹血糖(FBS)和癌胚抗原(CEA)之间相关性。因此,本研究目的是评估结直肠息肉患者的尿酸水平与TG、TC、HDL、LDL、FBS、CEA之间的关系。研究目的本研究课题目的是研究TG、TC、LDL、HDL、FBS、UA、CEA与结直肠息肉的发生的相关性,并分析其与患者的年龄、性别、息肉大小、息肉位置、息肉数量、息肉组织学特征之间的相关关系。对象与方法本研究纳入了279例结直肠患者作为实验组、194名健康人作为正常对照。分别测定实验组及对照组的空腹血糖、血脂及癌胚抗原。结直肠息肉的大小和数目在结肠镜下进行评估。所有的数据使用SPSS 19.0进行统计分析(P<0.05)结果研究结果表明,结直肠息肉患者UA、TG、TC、LDL、FBS水平显著高于正常对照组(P<0.05)。相比之下,与健康对照组相比,结直肠息肉患者血清高密度脂蛋白水平低于对照组(P<0.05)。结直肠息肉患者CEA与对照组无显著性差异。研究结果显示患者UA升高比例12.19%(34/279例),且与TG、TC、HDL、LDL异常相关,UA水平与TG、TC、LDL均呈显著正相关(r=0.31,0.18,0.2),而UA水平与HDL均呈显著负相关(r=-0.21),UA与CEA、FBS之间无显著相关性。结论血清TG、TC、LDL、FBS、UA水平增加与结直肠息肉的发生相关。血清UA与饮食、生活方式和遗传代谢相关,与TG、TC、HDL、LDL之间的相互作用增加结直肠息肉的发病风险的可能。这可能解释近年来结直肠肠息肉发生率增加与血清尿酸水平相关。因此,以上的生物指标在评估结直肠息肉的发生与进展有重要的意义。
