Objective:To evaluate the effect of hydroxysafflor yellow A(hSYA)on thioacetamide-induced liver ***:Thioacetamide was administered to rats intraperitoneally in doses of 200 mg/kg twice a week for 12 ***-intoxicated rats were given silymarin(50 mg/kg)or hSYA(5 mg/kg)orally every day for 8 *** enzymes,fibrosis markers,histological changes as well as immunohistochemistry of TNF-α,IL-6,p21,α-SMA,and caspase-3 were *** effect of hSYA on hSC-T6 activation/proliferation and apoptosis was also determined in ***:hSYA decreased liver enzymes,TNF-α,IL-6,and p21 expressions,hepatic PDGF-B,TIMP-1,TGF-β1,and hydroxyproline levels,as well as fibrosis score(S2 vs.S4)compared to the thioacetamide *** also downregulatedα-SMA while increasing caspase-3 ***,at 500μg/mL,hSYA had only a slightly suppressive effect on hSC proliferation,with a 9.5%***,it significantly reduced TGF-β1,inhibitedα-SMA expression,induced caspase-3 expression,and promoted cell ***:hSYA may be a potential therapeutic agent for delaying and reversing the progression of liver *** research on hSYA at higher doses and for a longer period is warranted.

Objective:To investigate the antifibrotic role of rosmarinic acid(RA),a natural polyphenolic compound,on hSCs activation/proliferation and apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. Methods:The impact of RA on stellate cell line(hSC-T6) proliferation,activation and apoptosis was assessed along with its safety on primary hepatocytes. In vivo,rats were divided into:(i) normal;(ii) thioacetamide(TAA)-intoxicated rats for 12 weeks;(iii) TAA+silymarin or(iv) TAA+RA. At the end of experiment,liver functions,oxidative stress,inflammatory and profibrogenic markers,tissue inhibitor metalloproteinases type-1(TIMP-1) and hydroxyproline(hP) levels were evaluated. Additionally,liver histopathology and immunohistochemical examinations of alpha-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA),caspase-3 and proliferation cellular nuclear antigen(PCNA) were determined. Results:RA exhibited anti-proliferative effects on cultured hSCs in a time and concentration dependent manner showing an IC50 of 276 μg/mL and 171 μg/mL for 24 h and 48 h,respectively,with morphological reversion of activated stellate cell morphology to quiescent form. It significantly improved ALT,AST,oxidative stress markers and reduced TIMP-1,hP levels,inflammatory markers and fibrosis score(S1 vs S4). Furthermore,reduction in α-SMA plus elevation in caspase-3 expressions of hSCs in vitro and in vivo associated with an inhibition in proliferation of damaged hepatocytes were recorded. Conclusions:RA impeded the progression of liver fibrosis through inhibition of hSCs activation/proliferation and induction of apoptosis with preservation of hepatic architecture.

Metabolic syndrome(MS)is a cluster of metabolic *** and MS are always accompanied by elevated oxidative stress which might affect cellular biomolecules such as *** aim of the present study is to investigate DNA damage profile in obese premenopausal women and its relation to the risk of MS,polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)and history of recurrent *** study included 90 obese women included cases with MS(nZ30),PCOS(n Z30)and previous history of recurrent preeclampsia(nZ30)and,age-matched healthy non-obese control women(n Z 50).The assessment of leukocyte DNA damage was done by comet assay for all cases and *** and biochemical parameters have been *** showed that mean percent of DNA damage was significantly higher in MS,PCOS as well as in women with the recurrent preeclampsia as compared to healthy *** high level of mean DNA damage frequency in obese women was significantly associated with the increased number of metabolic syndrome *** with 2,3 and 3e5 components showed significantly higher levels of DNA damage than ***,cases with 3e5 MS components showed significant higher DNA compared to those with the two *** PCOS,significant positive association between the mean frequency of DNA damage and waist circumference was *** study suggests that metabolic abnormalities,PCOS and recurrent pre-eclampsia might be contributed in development of DNA damage in obese *** damage can serve as an early marker for obesity complications in premenopausal women.

Resource management in Underground Wireless Sensor Networks(UWSNs)is one of the pillars to extend the network *** intriguing design goal for such networks is to achieve balanced energy and spectral resource *** paper focuses on optimizing the resource efficiency in UWSNs where underground relay nodes amplify and forward sensed data,received from the buried source nodes through a lossy soil medium,to the aboveground base station.A new algorithm called the hybrid Chaotic Salp Swarm and Crossover(hCSSC)algorithm is proposed to obtain the optimal source and relay transmission powers to maximize the network resource *** proposed algorithm improves the standard Salp Swarm Algorithm(SSA)by considering a chaotic map to initialize the population along with performing the crossover technique in the position updates of *** experimental results,the hCSSC algorithm proves its outstanding superiority to the standard SSA for resource efficiency ***,the network’s lifetime is ***,the proposed algorithm achieves an improvement performance of 23.6%and 20.4%for the resource efficiency and average remaining relay battery per transmission,***,simulation results demonstrate that the hCSSC algorithm proves its efficacy in the case of both equal and different node battery capacities.

Effect of water extract of dates palm (Phoenix dactylifera) on semen characteristics and oxidative status in serum of male New Zealand rabbits under heat stress

Objective: To estimate the effects of the water extract of dates palm (Phoenix dactylifera) (DWE) on sperm quality parameters, testosterone level and serum antioxidants activities of New Zealand rabbits under heat stress. Methods: A total of 30 bucks of New Zealand White rabbits were randomly divided into three equal groups as follows: Group 1 was treated as control group and fed on balanced commercial ration. Groups 2 and 3 were treated with 10 and 20 mL of dates extract substituting water in the early morning before watering and fed on balanced commercial ration. This schedule was performed daily for 5 days/week, for an experimental period of 5 weeks. Fertility parameters such as reaction time, potential of hydrogen ion (ph), mass motility, individual progressive motility %, percentage of live sperm and abnormal sperm (%) were measured. Blood serum testosterone level, serum glutathione reduced, nitric oxide, ascorbic acid and malondialdehyde were also determined. Results: The daily oral administration of 10 mL DWE significantly increased the ph, the mass motility and individual progressive motility % compared to the control group. Although, the consumption of 20 mL DWE significantly (Phe live sperm% and decreased the abnormal sperm % compared to the other two treatments. The administration of date extracts (10 and 20 mL) had significantly (Phione reduced levels compared to the control. On the other hand, it increased significantly the lipid peroxidation, ascorbic acid and testosterone level compared to the control. Conclusions:The aqueous extract of date palm (10-20 mL) could enhance the rabbit bucks fertility and its health performance.
