In vitro anthelminthic efficacy of Dichrocephala integrifolia(Asteraceae)extracts on the gastro-intestinal nematode parasite of mice:Heligmosomoides bakeri(Nematoda,Heligmosomatidae)

Objective:To evaluate the ovicidal and larvicidal activities of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of leaves of Dichrocephala integrifolia(***)against the eggs(fresh and embryonnated),the first and second larval stages of Heligmosomoides *** order to verify if this medicinal plant possesses active compounds capable of inhibiting the embryonation and hatching of eggs or to induce the mortality of larvae(L1 and L2).Methods:Dried extracts were diluted in distilled water to obtain five different concentrations:625,1 250,2500,3750 and 5000μg/*** eggs obtained from artificially infected mice feces were exposed to these different concentrations for 48 *** of contact for embryonated eggs was 6 h while L1 and L2 larvae were exposed for 24 *** water(placebo)and 1.5%DMSO were used as negative ***:Distilled water,and1.5%DMSO had no effect on embryonation,hatching and larval *** extracts of *** showed a weak activity against all stages of the parasite at all concentrations *** the contrary,the ethanolic extract of *** inhibited the embryonation of 87.5%of fresh eggs,the hatching of 81.1%of embryonated eggs and induced the mortality of 98.1%and 98%of L1 and L2 larvae respectively at 5000μg/***:The results of the present study indicate that the ethanolic extracts of *** contained compounds with ovicidal and larvicidal *** spite of these results,in vivo tests,studies on toxicity and mechanism of action of active compounds are also needed to validate the utilisation of this medicinal plant by population of Dschang-Cameroon to treat gastro-intestinal parasites.

Objective:To examine the magnitude and some risk factors of porcine eysticercosis in Bafut and Santa,two sub-divisions noted for pig farming in the North West Region of ***: A total of 499 pigs in 300 households were examined by tongue inspection and serologically by *** was sought on the age and sex of the animals,prevailing husbandry systems,types of feed,the state of each pen and the state of ***,a questionnaire was administered to the farmers to determine their awareness on taeniasis/cysticercosis and related ***:The prevalence of the disease was significantly higher in Santa(10.2%) than in Bafut(4.2%),although there was a higher level of awareness in both localities(62.3%).Age of pigs,traditional rearing systems(roaming,tethered,earth floor pen,raised floor pen),faecal disposal in the environmenl and poor sanitation significantly influenced the seroprevalence of porcine cysticercosis in both *** farmers(79.7%) used a combination of concentrate, grass and kitchen waste to feed *** loss from porcine cysticercosis was estimated at 346 900 CFA representing 2%of total ***:Control measures advanced here include sensitization campaigns,periodic examination and treatment of infected pigs by veterinarians,improved husbandry systems,proper use of standard latrines regularly inspected by sanitary officers,and sound hygienic and sanitary practices.

RF MEMS Based Reconfigurable Rectangular Slotted Self Similar Antenna

Wireless communication systems which require flexibility and reconfigurability in antenna systems faces main problems like antenna performance, size, weight and cost. A wide band Frequency Reconfigurable Rectangular Slotted Self Similar Antenna has been proposed in this paper. The rectangular slotted patch is repeated for two iterations at different scales and is separated by means of Radio Frequency Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (RF MEMS) switches in order to provide reconfigurability. The antenna can operate in three frequency bandsi.e. K-band, Ku-band and Ka-band by altering the states of RF MEMS switches. To avoid fringing effects and to improve antenna performance, quarter wavelength (λ/4) spacing is required between the antenna and the ground plane. However, a Reconfigurable Antenna requires different λ/4 spacing which is difficult to achieve using a common ground plane. So the Frequency Reconfigurable antenna is integrated with high impedance surface (HIS) like Electronic Band Gap (EBG) structures to suppress standing waves and surface waves with a unified profile thickness of 1.75 mm. The overall dimension of the proposed antenna along with RF MEMS Switch, feed element and HIS is about 8 mm × 8 mm × 1.75 mm. The simulated results of the proposed antenna reveal enhancement in antennas performance like Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR), Front to Back Ratio (FBR) and bandwidth when it is placed over HIS EBG. Also the radiation patterns of the proposed antenna when placed over EBG shows the suppression of side lobe and backward radiation.

Optimization of Disjoints Using WDM-pon in an Optical Network

An optical network is a type of data communication network built with optical fibre technology. It utilizes optical fibre cables as the primary communication medium for converting data and passing data as light pulses between sender and receiver nodes. The major issue in optical networking is disjoints that occur in the network. A polynomial time algorithm Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Networking (WDM-pon) computes disjoints of an optical network and reduces the count of disjoints that occur in the network by separating Optical Network Units (ONU) into several virtual point-to-point connections. The Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) filter is included in WDM-pon to avoid the traffic in the network thereby increasing the bandwidth capacity. In case of a failure or disjoint Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm is used to find the optimized shortest path for re-routing. For enhanced security, modified Rivert Shamir Adleman (RSA) algorithm encrypts the message during communication between the nodes. The efficiency is found to be improved in terms of delay in packet delivery, longer optical reach, optimized shortest path, packet error rate.

Real-Time Upstream Services Demonstration in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing- Passive Optical Network System

Abstract： Real-time digital service and mul- timedia service upstream transmission in Dig- ital Signal Processing （DSP）-based Orthogo- nal Frequency Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Network （OFDM-pon） is experimen- tally demonstrated with Centralised Light Sou- rce （CLS） configuration in this paper. After transmitted over 25 km Standard Single Mode Fibre （SSMF） with -16.5 dBm optical power at receiver, the Bit Error Rate （BER） is 9.5 ×10^-11. The implementations of digital domain up-conversion and down-conversion based on Field Programmable Gate Array （FPGA） are int- roduced, which can reduce the cost of In-ph- ase and Quadrature （IQ） radio frequency mix- ers utilised at transmitter and receiver. A car- rier synchronization algorithm is implemented for compensating carrier offset. A channel eq- ualization algorithm is adopted for compen- sating the damage of channel. A new structure of Frequency Synchronization Unit （FSU） des- igned in FPGA is also proposed to cope with the frequency shifting at receiver.

Aim:Because mutations of splicing factor 3B subunit-1(SF3B1)have been identified in 4%of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)patients,we investigated the activity of new potential inhibitors of SF3B1 in combination with gemcitabine,one of the standard drugs,in PDAC cell ***:One imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole derivative(IS1)and three indole derivatives(IS2,IS3 and IS4),selected by virtual screening from an in-house library,were evaluated by the sulforhodamine-B and wound healing assay for their cytotoxic and antimigratory activity in the PDAC cells SUIT-2,Hs766t and Panc05.04,the latter harbouring the SF3B1 *** effects on the splicing pattern of proto-oncogene recepteur d’origine nantais(RON)and the gemcitabine transporter human equilibrative nucleoside transporter-1(hENT1)were assessed by PCR,while the ability to reduce tumour volume was tested in spheroids of primary PDAC ***:The potential SF3B1 modulators inhibited PDAC cell proliferation and prompted induction of cell *** compounds showed an interesting anti-migratory ability,associated with splicing RON/ΔRON shift in SUIT-2 cells after 24 h ***,IS1 and IS4 potentiated the sensitivity to gemcitabine in both conventional 2D monolayer and 3D spheroid cultures,and these results might be explained by the statistically significant increase in hENT1 expression(P<0.05 *** control cells),potentially reversing PDAC ***:These results support further studies on new SF3B1 inhibitors and the role of RON/hENT1 modulation to develop effective drug combinations against PDAC.

Pre-natal and post-natal chemical exposures and co-exposures from a variety of sources including contaminated air,water,soil,and food are common and associated with poorer birth and child health *** diet is a contributing factor in the development of child behavioral *** behavior and learning can be adversely impacted when gene expression is altered by dietary transcription factors such as zinc insufficiency or deficiency or by exposure to toxic substances permitted in our food supply such as mercury,lead,or organophosphate pesticide *** with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders exhibit decreased or impaired pon1 gene activity which is needed by the body to metabolize and excrete neurotoxic organophosphate *** this current review we present an updated macroepigenetic model that explains how dietary inorganic mercury and lead exposures from unhealthy diet may lead to elevated blood mercury and/or lead levels and the development of symptoms associated with the autism and attention deficithyperactivity ***1 gene activity may be suppressed by inadequate dietary calcium,selenium,and fatty acid intake or exposures to lead or *** model may assist clinicians in diagnosing and treating the symptoms associated with these childhood neurodevelopmental *** for future research are provided based on the updated model and review of recently published literature.

BACKGROUND Temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE)is the most common focal epilepsy subtype in adults and is frequently accompanied by depression,anxiety and *** in total paraoxonase 1(pon1)status may occur in TLE and these psychiatric *** To examine pon1 status,namely Q192R pon1 genotypes and pon1 enzymatic activities,in *** We recruited 40 normal controls and 104 TLE patients,27 without comorbidities and 77 with comorbidities including mood disorders(n=25),anxiety disorders(n=27)and psychosis(n=25).RESULTS Four-(chloromethyl)phenyl acetate hydrolysis(CMPAase)and arylesterase activities were significantly lower in TLE and mesial temporal sclerosis(MTS)with and without psychiatric comorbidities than those in normal *** areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of CMPAase were 0.893(0.037)for TLE and 0.895(±0.037)for *** least squares path analysis showed that there were specific indirect effects of pon1 genotype on TLE severity(Ppon1 CMPAase activity was inversely associated with Mini Mental State Examination *** The severity of TLE and comorbidities are to a large extent explained by reduced pon1 enzyme activities and by effects of the Q192R genotype,which are mediated by reduced CMPAase *** pon1 status plays a key role in the pathophysiology of TLE,MTS and psychiatric comorbidities by increasing the risk of oxidative ***1 enzyme activities are new drug targets in TLE to treat seizure frequency and psychiatric comorbidities.
