AIM: To determine outcomes using the Femoro-Patella Vialla(FPV) arthroplasty and if there is an ideal patient for this implant. METHODS: A total of 41 FPV patellofemoral joint replacements were performed in 31 patients(22 females, 9 males, mean age 65 years). Mean followup was 3.2 years(minimum 2 years). Radiographs were reviewed preoperatively and postoperatively. We assessed whether gender, age, previous surgery, patella atla or trochlear dysplasia influenced patient satisfaction or patient functional ***: The median Oxford k.ee Score was 40 and the median Melbourne Patellofemoral Score was 21 postoperatively. Seventy-six percent of patients were satisfied, 10% unsure and 14% dissatisfied postoperatively. There was no radiological progression of tibiofemoral joint arthritis, using the Ahlback.grading,in any patient. One patient, who was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis postoperatively, underwent revision to total k.ee replacement. There were no intraoperative lateral releases and no implant failures. Gender, age, the presence of trochlear dysplasia, patella alta or bilateral surgery did not influence patient outcome. Previous surgery did not correlate with outcome. CONCLUSION: In contrast to the current literature, the FPV shows promising early results. However, we cannot identify a subgroup of patients with superior outcomes.

Spherical Li-rich lithium manganese oxide（LMO） spinel material was synthesized by an ion implanted method assisted by polyalcohol doped with Niobium and Phosphate *** material was characterized by scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction and BET specific surface area *** electrochemical performances were investigated with galvanostatic techniques and cyclic *** synthesis process was investigated with TG/*** results show that the lithium ion can be immersed into the pore of manganese dioxide at a low temperature with the ion implanted *** prepared materials have a higher discharge capacity and better crystallization than those prepared by solid phase *** doped Nb can improve the capacity of the Li-rich LMO spinel and reinforce the crystal growth along（111） and（400） *** crystal grains show circular and smooth morphology,which mak.s the specific surface area greatly ***-doped LMO spinel exhibits good high-rate capacity and structure *** prepared Li（1.09）Mn（1.87）Nb（0.031）O（3.99）（PO4）（0.021）delivers a discharge capacity of 119mAhg^-1 at 0.2C（1C=148mAg^-1） and 112.8 mAhg^-1 at 10 C,the discharge capacity retention reaches 98% at 1 ℃ after 50 cycles at 25 ℃ and 94% at 55 ℃.

The effect of Al and Zn additives on the grain size of Mg-3Ni-2MnO_(2) alloy was *** nanostructured Mg-3Ni-2MnO_(2) and Mg-3Ni-2MnO_(2)-3Al-Zn were made by ball milling process under hydrogen *** XRD results and TEM analysis reveal that Al and Zn additives almost have no effect on the grain size of Mg-3Ni-2MnO_(2) *** present study provides us a feasibility of producing nano-structured magnesium alloys,based on hydrogenation,disproportionation,desorption and recombination(HDDR),by adding beneficial elements to hydrogen storage materials.

Asymmetric hydrogenation reaction is one of the most efficient synthetic methods to form useful chiral compounds for synthetic chemistry,medicinal chemistry and material ***,the enantioselectivity of many hydrogenation reactions is controlled by steric hindrance between the chiral ligand and ***,Zhang group developed a highly asymmetric hydrogenation of 2-aryl and 2-alk.l acrylic acids catalyzed by a Rh(l)catalyst with a chiral Wudaphos *** excellent enantioselectivity of this asymmetric reaction was proposed to be controlled by ion-pair interaction between the substrate and chiral *** this study,a systematic density functional theory study has been carried out to investigate the reaction mechanism and origin of the *** computational results suggest that this reaction follows the classic mechanism involving oxidative addition of H_(2),migratory insertion and reductive *** from the C=C coordination to the metal in the common oxidative addition step,our study found that the chelation of the carboxyl group of the substrate to the cationic Rh(l)metal is more favorable in this oxidative addition *** high enantioselectivity is proposed to be dictated by a better catalyst/substrate geometric complementarity in the major pathway to have less distortion of the catalyst for a strong ion-pair interaction.

Neurological heterotopic ossification(NHO)is a debilitating condition where bone forms in soft tissue,such as muscle surrounding the hip and k.ee,following an injury to the brain or spinal *** abnormal formation of bone can result in nerve impingement,pain,contractures and impaired *** are often diagnosed with NHO after the bone tissue has completely mineralised,leaving invasive surgical resection the only remaining treatment *** resection of NHO creates potential for added complications,particularly in patients with concomitant injury to the central nervous system(CNS).Although recent work.has begun to shed light on the physiological mechanisms involved in NHO,there remains a significant k.owledge gap related to the prognostic biomarkers and prophylactic treatments which are necessary to prevent NHO and optimise patient *** article reviews the current understanding pertaining to NHO epidemiology,pathobiology,biomarkers and treatment *** particular,we focus on how concomitant CNS injury may drive ectopic bone formation and discuss considerations for treating polytrauma patients with *** conclude that understanding of the pathogenesis of NHO is rapidly advancing,and as such,there is the strong potential for future research to unearth methods capable of identifying patients lik.ly to develop NHO,and targeted treatments to prevent its manifestation.

A novel magnetic field sensor was proposed based on the grapefruit optical fiber with the magnetic fluid injected into the six air *** sensor utilizes the Mach-Zehnder interference(MZI).The light is transmitted through the single-mode fiber to the fusion splice point and is divided into two *** the light passes through the cladding air hole with magnetic fluid,it interferes with the core light,and the change of the interference light is related with the change of the magnetic *** sensor cavity length is 6 *** can be obtained from the experimental results that the magnetic field sensitivity reaches up to 2.243 nm/Oe with the range from 0 to 2.28 *** sensor has the advantages of easy fabrication,easy installation and low *** findings provide new ideas for the study of ocean wind electromagnetic fields.

A novel crystal characterization instrument has been built up in which a combination of X-ray multiple diffraction and X-ray topography is applied to enabling the cross-correlation between micro-crystallographic symmetry and its spatial dependence in relation to lattice defects. This facility is used to examine, in a self-consistent manner, growth sector-dependant changes to both the crystallographic structure and the lattice defects associated with the action of habit-modifying additives in a number of representative crystal growth systems. In addition, the new instrument can be used to probe micro-crystallographic aspects(such as distortion to crystal symmetry) and relate these in a spatially resolved manner to the crystal defect structure in crystals doped with k.own habit modifiers.

We evaluated the attraction ofMonochamus alternatus Hope （Coleoptera： Cerambycidae）, Dryocoetes luteus Blandford and Orthotomicus erosus Wollaston （Coleoptera： Curculionidae： Scolytinae） to multiple-funnel traps baited with the pine volatiles, ethanol and （＋）-α-pinene and the bark.beetle pheromones, ipsenol and ipsdienol. M. alternatus were attracted to traps baited with ethanol and （＋）-α-pinene but not those baited with ipsdienol and ipsenol. Ipsdienol and ipsenol decreased catches ofM. alternatus in traps baited with ethanol and （＋）-α-pinene. Traps baited with either binary combinations of ethanol and （＋）-α-pinene or ipsdienol and ipsenol were attractive to D. luteus and O. erosus. The addition of ipsenol and ipsdienol to traps baited with ethanol and （＋）-α-pinene synergized attraction of O. erosus but not D. luteus .

We reported displacement of a ureteral double J stent into the vena cava and laparoscopic management in a 69-year-old patient with a history of ureteral stent placement. Preoperative computed tomography and plain X-rays showed malpositioning of the double J stent and displacement into the inferior vena cava. The characteristics of stent misplacement precluded endovascular procedures and explorative laparoscopic surgery was performed. The intra-and postoperative periods were uneventful. Postoperative imaging demonstrated that the new double J stent was in the right position. The patient was discharged 7 d after the operation and was symptom free at the 4-mo followup.
