A mild, configurable, flexible Coni-LDH（v）/Zn battery based on H-vacancy-induced reversible Zn2+ intercalation

Flexible Zn-based batteries have attracted increasing research interest as essential components of wearable energy storage ***,the advancement of flexible aqueous Zn-based batteries based on Co-ni layered double hydroxide （Coni-LDH） as the cathode material is hampered by their poor cycling stability and the corrosiveness of alkaline ***,Coni-LDH nanosheets enriched with H vacancies (Coni-LDH（v）) were constructed on a flexible carbon cloth （CC） substrate via electrochemical deposition and *** Zn-based battery comprising Coni-LDH（v）@CC as the cathode exhibited highly reversible conversion reactions and stable operation in 3 M ZnSO4electrolyte （pH=4）.The battery delivered an excellent specific capacity (225 mA h g-1,0.26 mA h cm-2),acceptable cycling stability（53.9%,900 cycles）,and high discharging *** abundant H vacancies served as active sites for the reversible intercalation of Zn2+and the extravasation of NO3-generated channels and space for Zn2+transport and storage,together enabling an excellent Zn2+storage ***,a sandwich-structured solid-state Coni-LDH（v）@CC//Zn@CC battery was fabricated and was found to exhibit a noteworthy electrochemical performance and mechanical *** a proof of concept,the unencapsulated battery powered a digital watch under various deformation conditions and operated stably for 80 ***,the flexible battery displayed outstanding customizability,maintaining an open-circuit voltage of 1.42 V even after being cut *** proposed engineering strategy contributes to the realization of textiles with truly wearable energy-storage devices.

Unlocking the electrocatalytic activity of natural chalcopyrite using mechanochemistry

Manipulating the structure self-reconstruction of transition metal sulfide-based(pre)catalysts during the oxygen evolution reaction(OER) process is of great interest for developing cost-effective OER catalysts,which remains a central challenge. Here we realize a deep structure self-reconstruction of natural chalcopyrite to unlock its OER performance via mechanochemical activation. Compared with the manually milled counterpart(CuFeS_(2)-HM), the mechanically milled catalyst(CuFeS_(2)-BM) with a reduced crystallinity exhibits a 7.11 times higher OER activity at 1.53 V vs. RHE. In addition, the CuFeS_(2)-BM requires a low overpotential of 243 mV for generating 10 mA cm^(-2) and exhibits good stability over 24 h. Further investigations suggest that the excellent OER performance of CuFeS_(2)-BM mainly originates from the decreased crystallinity induced the in situ deep structure self-reconstruction of the originally sulfides into the electroactive and stable metal(oxy)hydroxide phase(e.g., a-Fe OOH) via S etching under OER conditions. This study demonstrates that regulating the crystallinity of catalysts is a promising design strategy for developing highly efficient OER catalysts via managing the structure self-reconstruction process, which can be further extended to the design of efficient catalysts for other advanced energy conversion devices. In addition, this study unveils the great potentials of engineering abundant natural minerals as cost-effective catalysts for diverse applications.

Rare earth element chemistry indicates chemical alteration of zircons during the evolution of weathering profile

Although rare earth elements(REEs)in magmatic zircons have been widely used to identify the type and compositional evolution of host rocks,REE distribution patterns during the chemical alteration of zircons need *** investigated REE characteristics in zircons with different degrees of chemical weathering through systematic observation of a granodiorite-weathering profile in southeast *** the relatively stable provenance of the studied profile(zircon U–Pb ages are95.2±4.8 Ma),the zircon REEs exhibited systematic differences in abundance and fractionation patterns from the bedrock to upper layers,e.g.∑PREE,(LREE/HREE)_(CN),and Ce/Ce*.This evidence suggests chemical alteration of zircons during intensive chemical weathering and an expected influence on REE variability in the weathered products due to the presence of REE-bearing minerals.

Monitoring of brown stink bug (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) population dynamics in corn to predict its abundanee using weather data

The brown stink bug (BSB), Euschistus servus (Say)(Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is a serious economic pest of corn production in the southeastern United States. The BSB population dynamics was mon itored for 17 weeks from tasseling to preharvest of corn plants (i.e., late May to mid-September) using pheromone traps in three corn fields from 2005 to 2009. The trap data showed two peaks in early June and mid-August, respectively. The relationship between trap catch and pregrowing season weather data was examined using correlation and stepwise multiple factor regression analyses. Weather indices used for the analyses were accumulated growing degree day (AgDD), number of days with minimum temperature below 0℃(Subz), accumulated daily maximum (AMaxT) and minimum temperatures (AMinT) and rainfall (ARain). The weather indices were calculated with lower (10℃) and upper (35℃) as biological thresholds. The parameters used in regression analysis were seasonal abundance (or overall mean of BSB adult catch)(BSBm), number of BSB adults caught at a peak (PeakBSB), and peak week (Peakwk). The BSBm was negatively related to high temperature (AmaxT or AgDD) consistently, whereas IstPeakBSB was positively correlated to both ARain and Subz, irrespective of weather data durations (the first 4, 4.5, and 5 months). In contrast, the 7-month weather data (AgDD7) were negatively correlated to the BSBm only, but not correlated to the second PeakBSB. The 5-year monitoring study demonstrated that weather data can be used to predict the BSB abundance at its first peak in tasseling corn fields in the southeastern U.S. states.

Combined Cloud： A Mixture of Voluntary Cloud and Reserved Instance Marketplace

Voluntary cloud is a new paradigm of cloud computing. It provides an alternative selection along with some well-provisioned clouds. However, for the uncertain time span that participants share their computing resources in voluntary cloud, there are some challenging issues, i.e., fluctuation, under-capacity and low-benefit. In this paper, an architecture is first proposed based on Bittorrent protocol. In this architecture, resources could be reserved or requested from Reserved Instance Marketplace and could be accessed with a lower price in a short circle. Actually, these resources could replenish the inadequate resource pool and relieve the fluctuation and under-capacity issue in voluntary cloud. Then, the fault rate of each node is used to evaluate the uncertainty of its sharing time. By leveraging a linear prediction model, it is enabled by a distribution function which is used for evaluating the computing capacity of the system. Moreover, the cost optimization problem is investigated and a computational method is presented to solve the low-benefit issue in voluntary cloud. At last, the system performance is validated by two sets of simulations. And the experimental results show the effectiveness of our computational method for resource reservation optimization.

Evaluation of channel-like porous-structured titanium in mechanical properties and osseointegration

The porous titanium with a channel-like pore structure fabricated by infiltration casting followed by selectively dissolving the precursor woven three dimensional(3D)structure technique was comprehensively investigated by means of mechanical tests,in vitro and in vivo *** porous structure exhibited superiority in compressive,tensile strength and *** 40%porosity,the average compressive and tensile strength reached about 145MPa and 85 MPa,which was superior to that of other porous titanium,e.g.,Selective Laser Melting or powder sintered ones,and was comparable to that of the human cortical *** any bioactive surface treatment,this porous titanium exhibited good cell adhesion,rapid cell proliferation and excellent *** on the study,the 0.4mm pore size resulted in the most rapid cell proliferation and the maximal BV/TV ratio and trabecular bone number of the new bone that ingrew into the porous *** balance the excellent osseointegration and adequate mechanical properties,the optimal structural parameters were 0.4mmpore size with 40%*** porous titanium is very promising for orthopedic applications where compressive and tensile load-bearing is extremely important.

Ceramic-based meta-material absorber with high-temperature stability

With the continuous exploration of uncharted and extreme environments,enhanced temperature robustness of passive devices has become particularly *** this study,a ceramic-based meta-material absorber with exceptional temperature stability is developed using a fusion design approach that combines rare metal-based tungsten bronze structural ceramics and ***,the absorbance of the meta-material array based on Mie resonance exceeds 49.0%in both waveguides and free space,approaching the theoretical *** to impedance analysis,the absorption performance can be distinctly correlated with the dielectric loss(Q_(f)).Notably,the high-temperature robustness is verified to still be effective at 400℃.These advancements in our design allow for the use of monolithic materials in fabricating temperature-stable perfect absorbers,providing greater freedom in the dielectric performance and expanding their potential applications,including in space exploration and 5g millimeter-wave scenarios.
