CFD simulation of pumping ventilation in a three-story isolated building with internal partitioning:Effects of partition widths,heights and locations

Pumping ventilation(PV),a special single-sided ventilation(SSV),has been certified as an effective strategy to improve the air exchange rate of ***,most studies targeted on the single space,and few studies have been focused on the effect of internal partitioning on *** paper aims to evaluate the ventilation performance of PV influenced by different configurations of internal *** fluid dynamics(CFD)simulation was used to predict the flow fields and ventilation *** width(w/H),height(h/H)and location(d/H)are the three main internal partition parameters considered in this *** simulation results showed that the total,mean and fluctuating ventilation rates all decrease with wider internal *** normalized total ventilation rate decreases by 7.6%when w/H is increased from 50%to 75%.However,the reduction rate is only 0.23%between w/H=0 and 25%,and only 0.61%between w/H=25%and 50%.The ventilation rate is hardly reduced by increasing the partition width when w/H50%.Increasing the partition height will reduce the mean ventilation rate but promote the fluctuating and total ventilation rate in some *** increase of total ventilation rate by 1.4%is observed from h/H=50%to 75%.The ventilation rate is larger when the internal partition is attached to the leeward or windward *** total,mean and fluctuating ventilation rates for d/H=50%are relatively higher than d/H=0 by 1.5%,3.1%and 0.8%,*** the internal partition should be mounted attached to the windward wall so as to obtain the greatest pumping ventilation *** periodicity of pumping flow oscillation and pumping frequency are independent of the partition *** peak power of pumping flow is the lowest for the widest internal partition and is negatively affected by the partition height,but it generally has a positive correlation with the distance between the partition and leeward wa

Microsatellites reveal strong genetic structure in the common cutworm, Spodoptera litura

The common cutworm, Spodoptera litura(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is a voracious agricultural pest. To increase understanding of the migration patterns and genetic diversity of different geographic populations of this species, we analyzed genetic variation in nine microsatellite loci among 576 individuals collected from 17 locations in China and one in Myanmar during 2011–2012. We successfully identified 162 alleles, with an average of 18 alleles per locus and a range of 5 to 34. The mean observed heterozygosity of the 18 populations ranged from 0.18 to 0.98, and the expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.19 to 0.89. For the nine microsatellite markers studied, polymorphism information content ranged from 0.18 to 0.88(mean=0.64). We found low genetic differentiation among the 18 populations(mean F-statistics(F_(ST))=0.05) and high genetic diversity among individuals. Principle coordinates analysis indicated no significant correlation between geographic and genetic distance(r=0.04). The value of N_m(N_m>4) estimated using coalescent-based methods suggests strong gene flow with migration. The nine microsatellite markers identified in this study will be beneficial for further investigation of migration patterns and genetic diversity in S. litura.

Emergence,Mating and Oviposition Behavior of the Chinese Population in Pink Bollworm,Pectinophora gossypiella (Lepidoptera:Gelechiidae)

The pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella （Lepidoptera： Gelechiidae） is one of the most serious lepidopteran pests of cotton in the world. This pest invaded China at the onset of the 20th century, possibly through repeated introductions from several different locations worldwide. In this paper, we describe different behavioral parameters of this Hubei P. gossypiella strain under laboratory and field conditions. Using an infra-red video recorder, we observed （nocturnal） emergence, flight and mating activities, and oviposition patterns. Moth emergence started from 13：00 and continued up till 23：00. Under laboratory and field conditions, 2-7-d-old moths initiated flight around sunset, peaked 50 rain later and gradually declined until 04：00. Although mating started immediately after darkness （i.e., 20：00）, mating behavior was most intense from 23：00 to 03：40. Oviposition also showed distinct time-related patterns, with approx. 70% eggs laid between 20：00 and 22：00. In the studies of the relationship between flight and oviposition, the duration of flight had an effect on oviposition. The 1-d-old moths flown for 6 and 12 h began oviposition earlier than the unflown ones, and the 6-h flight had no effect on the egg production. However, the longevity of the flown moths was shortened after flight. In addition, the peaks of oviposition for the flown moths were advanced 2-3 d. The age when the moths flied affected the oviposition of adult moths. The earlier the moths started to fly after emergence, the greater the fecundity they had. The average egg production of moths flown for 24 h was less than that of non-flown moths which were of the same age. Both flight and delay in mating could advance the oviposition peak. Our study provides detailed insights in nocturnal activities and the reproductive biology of local P. gossypiella populations, which could be employed to fine-tune current pest management programs in China.

Simulation of roof snow loads based on a multi-layer snowmelt model:Impact of building heat transfer

To investigate the impact of building heat transfer on roof snow loads,roof snow loads and snow load thermal coefficients from 61 Chinese sites over a period of 50 years are simulated based on basic meteorological data such as temperature,humidity,wind speed,and precipitation,and a multi-layer snowmelt model considering the building heat ***,the accuracy of the multi-layer snowmelt model is validated using the data of observed ground snow load and roof snow melting *** relationship between meteorological conditions,snow cover characteristics,and thermal coefficients of snow loads in three representative sites is then ***,the characteristics of thermal coefficients in each zone are analyzed by combining them with the statistical results of meteorological data from 1960 to 2010,and the equations of thermal coefficients in different zones on indoor temperatures and roof heat transfer coefficients are fitted ***,the equations in this paper are compared with the thermal coefficients in the main snow load *** results indicate that the snowmelt model using basic meteorological data can effectively provide samples of roof snow *** the cold zone where the snow cover lasts for a long time and does not melt easily,the thermal coefficients of the snow loads on the heating buildings are lower than those in the warm zone due to the long-term influence of the heat from inside the *** coefficients are negatively correlated with indoor temperatures and roof heat transfer *** the indoor temperature is too low or the roof insulation is good,the roof snow load may exceed the ground snow *** thermal coefficients for heated buildings in the main snow load codes are more conservative than those calculated in this paper,and the thermal coefficients for buildings with lower indoor temperatures tend to be smaller.

Conductive fibers(CFs)with features of high conductivity,stretchability,self-healability,and electromechanical stability are key components of the increasingly popular wearable ***,since the lack of structural design of conductive network and interfacial interaction between soft polymer and conductive additives,it is still hard to enable CFs to meet above ***,we describe a facial drawing method from a hydrogel reservoir which is remolded into ultrathin and stretchable CFs with excellent multi-responsive *** hydrogel reservoir was fabricated in synergy of an ice-templating method and in situ polymerization using the assembled framework as a *** on the effective fabrication mechanism,the diameter of CFs could be well-tuned from 90 to 400μm by adjusting the dipping depth of the glass rod,accompanied with conductivity increased from 0.75 to 2.5 S/*** the hierarchical network structure was well maintained in the CFs,professional performances have been proved on the stretchability and electromechanical *** presence of massive hydrogen bonding and Ag–S bond enabled the CFs with excellent self-healability under the conditions of contact,electric field,and near infrared light,***,the CFs with high sensing property could be integrated into an advanced textile sensor through an effective healing-induced integration strategy,demonstrating its great potentials as superior two-dimensional(2D)electronic skins.

Metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1(MALAT1)is a well-established oncogenic long non-coding RNA,the higher expression of which is strongly correlated with cancer events such as tumorigenesis,progression,metastasis,drug resistance,and treatment outcome in solid ***,a series of studies has highlighted its potential role in hematological malignancies in terms of these *** to solid cancers,MALAT1 can regulate various target genes via sponging and epigenetic mechanisms,but the miRNAs sponged by MALAT1 differ from those identified in solid *** this review,we systematically describe the role and underlying mechanisms of MALAT1 in multiple types of hematological malignancies,including regulation of cell proliferation,metastasis,stress response,and ***,MALAT1 expression is related to poor treatment outcome and drug resistance,therefore exhibiting potential prognostic value in multiple myeloma,lymphoma,and ***,we discuss the evaluation of MALAT1 as a novel therapeutic target against cancer in preclinical studies.

Single-structure 3-axis Lorentz force magnetometer based on an AlN-on-Si MEMS resonator

This work presents a single-structure 3-axis Lorentz force magnetometer(LFM)based on an AlN-on-Si MEMS *** operation of the proposed LFM relies on the flexible manipulation of applied excitation currents in different directions and frequencies,enabling the effective actuation of two mechanical vibration modes in a single device for magnetic field measurements in three ***,the excited out-of-plane drum-like mode at 277 kHz is used for measuring the x-and y-axis magnetic fields,while the in-plane square-extensional mode at 5.4 MHz is used for measuring the z-axis magnetic *** different configurations of applied excitation currents ensure good crossinterference immunity among the three *** to conventional capacitive LFMs,the proposed piezoelectric LFM utilizes strong electromechanical coupling from the AlN layer,which allows it to operate at ambient pressure with a high *** understand and analyze the measured results,a novel equivalent circuit model for the proposed LFM is also reported in this work,which serves to separate the effect of Lorentz force from the unwanted capacitive *** demonstrated 3-axis LFM exhibits measured magnetic responsivities of 1.74 ppm/mT,1.83 ppm/mT and 6.75 ppm/mT in the x-,y-and z-axes,respectively,which are comparable to their capacitive counterparts.

Polypores play a cru cial role in energy recycling and forest regeneration in forest *** majority of them are wood degraders;some are forest pathogens and others are ectomycorrhizal *** basidiocarps provide food and shelter for many organisms,mostly invertebrates,but also some vertebrates,as well as food and medicine for *** extensive research on the species diversity and phylogenetic relationships of polypores in recent years,there remains a lack of comprehensive understanding of their distribution patterns and species composition at the large *** of polypores from the tropical zone,including tropical Africa,tropical America,and tropical Asia,were analyzed for species diversity,distribution patterns,major taxa,and nutritional modes.A total of 1,902 polypore species was found in the three regions,representing 8 orders,46families,and 250 genera of *** orders Polyporales(especially the family Polyporaceae)and Hymenochaetales(especially the family Hymenochaetaceae)had the most prolific taxa,with their species accounting for 93.4%of the total polypores *** of 1,565(or 82.3%)of the total 1,902 species were found in only one of the three regions studied,and we treat them temporarily as"regional endemic species".Only 141species were shared among all three regions,accounting for a mere 7.4%.Tropical Africa and tropical America had the greatest number of shared species and the highest S?rensen similarity index(SC)*** forests had a higher species richness compared with temperate to boreal forests of the Northern Hemisphere,and in addition,also a higher proportion of white rot polypores compared to brown rot and ectomycorrhizal *** study outlines the distribution patterns and species diversity of polypores in the world,shedding light on their ecological significance in diverse ecosystems.

Productivity in the Southern Ocean Antarctic Zone during the Northern Hemisphere Glaciation(NHG)and its link to atmospheric pCO_(2)

A decrease in atmospheric CO_(2)partial pressure(pCO_(2))is considered an important prerequisite for the onset and intensification of Northern Hemisphere Glaciation(NHG).However,how the ocean sequestered missing CO_(2)during the NHG is still *** in surface productivity and deep ventilation in the Southern Ocean(SO)have been proposed to explain the variations in atmospheric pCO_(2)over the last eight glacial cycles,but it is unclear whether these mechanisms contributed to the decrease in atmospheric pCO_(2)during the *** titanium-normalized contents and mass accumulation rates of biogenic opal and total organic carbon from the International Ocean Discovery Program(IODP)Expedition 374 Site U1524A,we reconstruct the productivity in the Ross Sea,Antarctica,from 3.3 Ma to 2.4 *** productivity records exhibit a long-term decreasing trend and several distinct phased evolutionary ***,the local productivity fluctuated dramatically during 3.3-3.0 Ma,decreased gradually during 3.0-2.6 Ma,and remained relatively constant during 2.6-2.4 *** comparing productivity with its potential influences,we infer that the phased and long-term evolutions of productivity were mainly controlled by changes in deep ocean *** ice expansion might have decreased productivity during 3.3-3.0 Ma by light *** in eolian dust input have little effect on *** analysis revealed no coupling linkage between productivity and atmospheric pCO_(2),indicating that the productivity in the SO Antarctic Zone(AZ)was not the main factor controlling the atmospheric CO_(2)decrease during the *** improve our understanding of the role of SO processes in the NHG,further studies should focus on the potential influences of deep ocean ventilation on atmospheric pCO_(2)in the AZ,and similar studies should also be extended to the sea area in the Subantarctic Zone.
