Unconfined compressive strength and failure behaviour of completely weathered granite from a fault zone

Understanding the strength characteristics and deformation behaviour of the tunnel surrounding rock in a fault zone is significant for tunnel stability *** this study,a series of unconfined compression tests were conducted to investigate the mechanical characteristics and failure behaviour of completely weathered granite(CwG)from a fault zone,considering with height-diameter(h/d)ratio,dry densities(ρd)and moisture contents(ω).Based on the experimental results,a regression mathematical model of unconfined compressive strength(UCS)for CwG was developed using the Multiple Nonlinear Regression method(MNLR).the research results indicated that the UCS of the specimen with a h/d ratio of 0.6 decreased with the increase ofω.when the h/d ratio increased to 1.0,the UCS increasedωwith up to 10.5%and then ***ρd is conducive to the improvement of the UCS at anyω.the deformation and rupture process as well as final failure modes of the specimen are controlled by h/d ratio,ρd andω,and the h/d ratio is the dominant factor affecting the final failure mode,followed byωandρ*** specimens with different h/d ratio exhibited completely different fracture mode,i.e.,typical splitting failure(h/d=0.6)and shear failure(h/d=1.0).By comparing the experimental results,this regression model for predicting UCS is accurate and reliable,and the h/d ratio is the dominant factor affecting the UCS of CwG,followed byρd and thenω.these findings provide important references for maintenance of the tunnel crossing other fault fractured zones,especially at low confining pressure or unconfined condition.

Aqueous Zn metal batteries(AZMBs)with intrinsic safety,high energy density and low cost have been regarded as promising electrochemical energy storage ***,the parasitic reaction on metallic Zn anode and the incompatibility between electrode and electrolytes lead to the deterioration of electrochemical performance of AZMBs during the *** critical point to achieve the stable cycling of AZMBs is to properly regulate the zinc ion solvated structure and transfer behavior between metallic Zn anode and *** recent years,numerous achievements have been made to resolve the formation of Zn dendrite and interface incompatible issues faced by AZMBs via optimizing the sheath structure and transport capability of zinc ions at electrode-electrolyte *** this review,the challenges for metallic Zn anode and electrode-electrolyte interface in AZMBs including dendrite formation and interface characteristics are *** the influences of different strategies involving designing advanced electrode structu re,artificial solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)on Zn anode and electrolyte engineering to regulate zinc ion solvated sheath structure and transport behavior are summarized and ***,the perspectives for the future development of design strategies for dendrite-free Zn metal anode and long lifespan AZMBs are also given.

Interdecadal Variations of ENSO Impacts over the Indo-Northwest Pacific Region and the Related Mechanisms

Owing to limited observations,it remains unknown whether the impact of El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)on the Indian Ocean-Northwest Pacific(IO-NwP)climate showed decadal changes in the early 20th *** multi-source reanalysis and hindcast datasets from the ECMwF and NOAA extending back to 1901,this study investigates interdecadal variations of the impact of ENSO on the IO-NwP climate from 1901 to *** is found that the influence of ENSO on the IO-NwP climate shows“strong-weak-strong”interdecadal change during *** is characterized by much weaker Indian Ocean sea surface temperature(SST)warming and a weaker NwP subtropical anticyclone(NwPSA)in the following summer of El Ni?o during 1946-1967,compared with those in the other two periods(1901-1945 and 1968-2009).Analyses of the datasets indicate that the interdecadal variation is mainly associated with the change in ENSO *** contrast to the period of 1946-1967,a greater SST variance occurred in the central-eastern equatorial Pacific during 1901-1945 and 1968-2009.A stronger El Ni?o tends to generate more significant anticyclonic anomalies over the southeast Indian Ocean through *** northwesterly anomalies to the south of the anticyclone weaken the southeast trade winds and warm the south Indian Ocean SST via wind-evaporation-SST feedback,and the positive south Indian Ocean SST anomalies trigger westward-propagating oceanic Rossby waves to induce stronger warming of the southwest Indian Ocean,leading to a significant asymmetric wind pattern across the equator in *** profound northeastward winds on the north side weaken the southwest monsoon,leading to a“second warming”over the north Indian Ocean in summer,which anchors the eastward-propagating warm Kelvin waves and results in a stronger NwPSA by inducing surface divergence and suppressing deep convection.

High efficiency photothermal cyclic self-healing antibacterial coating based on in-situ dual-functional BiOI@Bi_(2)S_(3)

Although extremely challenging,it is highly desirable to develop self-healing materials that exhibit high efficiency under environmental conditions for marine protection *** this work,polyurethane elastomers with hydrogen bond and dimethylglyoxime-urethane(DOU)coordination complex were combined with in-situ dual-functional BiOI@Bi_(2)S_(3) to synthesize high-efficiency photothermal cyclic self-healing antibacterial *** photothermal efficiency of BiOI@Bi_(2)S_(3) is improved by 38% through interfacial ***@Bi_(2)S_(3)/PU rapidly rises by 50.2℃ within 300 s under near-infrared(NIR)light,which can trigger the hydrogen bond of polyurethane coating and recover the barrier properties of the coating through *** functional theory was used to simulate and analyze the generation of multiple electron transfer paths after the vulcanization of BiOI,which improves the interfacial mobility of photogenerated carriers and generates more ***,molecular dynamics verified the self-healing mechanism of hydrogen bond and the photothermal lifting mechanism of the *** 5th scratches and self-healing cycle tests,the coating has a self-healing efficiency of more than 80%,which can ensure the self-healing and anticorrosion protection performance of the coating for multiple *** photocatalytic and photothermal properties of BiOI@Bi_(2)S_(3) enhance the antibacterial rate of the coating up to 99%.this work provides heuristic perspectives for the design of coatings with anti-corrosion,antibacterial and self-healing properties.

Investigation of hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene propellant breaking characteristics and mechanism impacted by submerged cavitation water jet

A submerged cavitation water jet(SCwJ)is an effective method to recycle solid propellant from obsolete solid engines by the breaking *** propellant's breaking modes and mechanical process under SCwJ impact are *** study aims to understand those impact breaking *** hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene(HTPB)propellant was chosen as the research material,and a self-designed test system was used to conduct impact tests at four different working *** high-speed camera characterized crack propagation,and the DIC method calculated strain change during the impact ***,micro and macro fracture morphologies were characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM)and computed tomography(CT)*** results reveal that the compressive strain concentration region locates right below the nozzle,and the shear strain region distributes symmetrically with the jet axis,which increases to 4% at first 16th ms,the compressive strain rises to 2% and 6% in the axial and transverse direction,*** two tensile cracks formed first at the compression strain concentrate region,and there generate many shear cracks around the tensile cracks,and those shear cracks that develop and aggregate cause the cracks to become wider and cut through the tensile cracks,forming the tensile-shear cracks and the impact parts eventually *** HTPB propellant forms a breaking hole shaped conical after impact 10 *** mass loss increases by 17 times at maximum,with the working pressure increasing by three ***,the damage value of the breaking hole remaining on the surface increases by 7.8 times while 2.9 times in the depth of the breaking *** breaking efficiency is closely affected by working *** failure modes of HTPB impacted by SCwJ are classified as tensile crack-dominated and tensile-shear crack-dominated damage mechanisms.

Due to the depletion of conventional energy reserves,there has been a global shift towards non-conventional energy *** oil and gas have emerged as key *** resources have dense and heterogeneous reservoirs,which require hydraulic fracturing to *** process depends on identifying optimal fracturing layers,also known as‘sweet spots’.However,there is currently no uniform standard for locating these sweet *** paper presents a new model for evaluating fracturability that aims to address the current gap in the *** model utilizes a hierarchical analysis approach and a mutation model,and is distinct in its use of original logging data to generate a fracturability evaluation *** this paper’s shale fracturing sweet spot evaluation method based on a two-step mutation model,four wells in different blocks of Fuling and Nanchuan Districts in China were validated,and the results showed that the proportion of high-yielding wells on the sweet spot line could reach 97.6%,while the proportion of low-producing wells was only 78.67%.Meanwhile,the evaluation results of the model were compared with the microseismic data,and the matching results were consistent.

An 8-channel hybrid-integrated chip for 200 Gb/s(8×25 Gb/s)signal transmission has been *** channels are all within the O-band,and with a spacing of 800 *** core of this chip is a monolithic integrated multi-wavelength laser array of 8 directly-modulated distributed feedback(DFB)*** using the reconstruction equivalent chirp technique,multi-wavelength integration and asymmetric phase shift structures are achieved in the laser *** output laser beams of the array are combined by a planar light-wave circuit,which is hybrid-integrated with the laser array by photonic wire *** results of this transmitter chip show good single-mode working of each unit laser,with a sidemode suppression ratio above 50 dB,and the modulation bandwidth is above 20 *** eye diagrams are obtained in the lasers for 25 Gb/s non-return-to-zero modulation,which implies a total 200 Gb/s transmission rate for the whole chip.

One-step construction of strongly coupled Co_(3)V_(2)O_(8)/Co_(3)O_(4)/MXene heterostructure via in-situ Co-F bonds for high performance all-solid-state asymmetric supercapacitors

Co_(3)V_(2)O_(8)/Co_(3)O_(4)/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) composite was easily synthesized via one-step succinct-operated hydrothermal *** interconnected Co_(3)V_(2)O_(8)/Co_(3)O_(4) nanowires network can in-situ grow and anchor on the surface of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) via the strong Co-F bonds and contribute tremendously to depress Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) *** from the synergistically interplayed effect among the multiple interfaces and high conductivity of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) as well as outstanding stability of the as-designed nanostructure,the optimum Co_(3)V_(2)O_(8)/Co_(3)O_(4)/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)electrode reaches a commendable specific capacitance(up to 3800 mF·cm^(−2)),great rate capability(80%capacitance retention after 20-times current increasing),and preeminent cycling stability(95.4%/85.5%retention at 7000th/20,000th cycle).Moreover,the all-solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor based on Co_(3)V_(2)O_(8)/Co_(3)O_(4)/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) and active carbon can deliver a high energy density of 84.0μwh·cm^(−2) at the power energy of 3.2 mw·cm^(−2),and excellent cycling durability with 87.0%of initial capacitance retention upon 20,000 *** work provides a practicable pathway to tailor MXene-based composites for high-performance supercapacitor.
